H. fulva 'Kwanso Variegata'

Daylily is the general nonscientific name of a species, hybrid or cultivar of the genus Hemerocallis. Daylily cultivar flowers are highly diverse in colour and form, as a result of hybridization efforts of gardening enthusiasts and professional horticulturalists. Thousands of registered cultivars are appreciated and studied by local and international Hemerocallis societies. Hemerocallis is now placed in family Xanthorrhoeaceae, subfamily Hemerocallidoideae, and formerly was part of Liliaceae (which includes Lilium, True Lilies).

Daylilies are perennial plants. The name Hemerocallis comes from the Greek words ????? (hemera) "day" and ????? (kalos) "beautiful". This name alludes to the attractive flowers of this genus which typically last no more than 24 hours. The flowers of most species open at sunrise and wither at sunset, possibly replaced by another one on the same scape (flower stalk) the next day. Some species are night-blooming. Daylilies are not commonly used as cut flowers for formal flower arranging, yet they make good cut flowers otherwise as new flowers continue to open on cut stems over several days.

Hemerocallis is native to Eurasia, including China, Korea, and Japan, and this genus is popular worldwide because of the showy flowers and hardiness of many kinds. There are over 60,000 registered cultivars. Hundreds of cultivars have fragrant flowers, and more scented cultivars are appearing more frequently in northern hybridization programs. Some cultivars rebloom later in the season, particularly if their capsules, in which seeds are developing, are removed.

Most kinds of Daylilies occur as clumps, each of which has leaves, a crown, flowers, and roots. The long, linear lanceolate leaves are grouped into opposite fans with arching leaves. The crown is the small white portion between the leaves and the roots. Along the scape of some kinds of daylilies, small leafy "proliferations" form at nodes or in bracts. A proliferation forms roots when planted and is often an exact clone of its parent plant. Many kinds of daylilies have thickened roots in which they store food and water.

A normal, single daylily flower has three petals and three sepals, collectively called tepals, each with a midrib in the same or in a contrasting color. The centermost part of the flower, called the throat, usually has a different color than more distal areas of its tepals. Each flower usually has six stamens, each with a two-lobed anther. After successful pollination, a flower forms a capsule (often erroneously called a pod).

The Fulvous Daylily, although a beautiful plant, is an unwanted alien, invasive weed in some parts of the United States, such as in Wisconsin (Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources). People sometimes plant the Fulvous Daylily and other rhizomatous daylilies, which have underground runners. These kinds can overrun one's garden, and can take an appreciable amount of time and effort to confine or remove.

Depending on the species and cultivar, daylilies grow in USDA plant hardiness zones 1 through 11, making daylilies some of the more adaptable landscape plants. Hybridizers have developed the vast majority of cultivars within the last 100 years. The large-flowered, bright yellow Hemerocallis 'Hyperion', introduced in the 1920s, heralded a return to gardens of the once-dismissed daylily, and is still widely available in the nursery trade. Daylily breeding has been a specialty in the United States, where daylily heat- and drought-resistance made them garden standbys since the 1950s. New cultivars have sold for thousands of dollars, but sturdy and prolific introductions sell at reasonable prices of $20 or less.

The Tawny Daylily (Hemerocallis fulva), and the sweet-scented Lemon-lily (H. lilioasphodelus; H. flava, old name)were early imports from England to 17th-century American gardens and soon escaped from gardens. The introduced Tawny Daylily is now common in many natural areas, and some people think that it is a native wildflower. Its nonscientific names include Railroad Daylily and Roadside Daylily and Outhouse Lily, Tiger Lily, and Wash-house Lily (although it is not a true lily). Some people have planted this species near outhouses and wash houses, hence two of its nonscientific names.

Hemerocallis is one of the very highly hybridized plant genera. Hybridizers register hundreds of new cultivars yearly. Hybridizers have extended the genus' color range from the yellow, orange, and pale pink of the species, to vibrant reds, purples, lavenders, greenish tones, near-black, near-white, and more. However, hybridizers have not yet been able to produce a daylily with primarily blue flowers in forms of blue such as azure blue, cobalt blue, and sky blue. Flowers of some cultivars have small areas of cobalt blue.

I made a set of 3 wall hangings using some beautiful floral fabric from an old valance I was getting rid of, matting, and black picture frames. I embroidered onto the fabric, and took the glass out of the frames--they serve as very interesting wall hangings in my kitchen. NIŃOS EN CEUTA DE AGUA (Venezuela)

This vintage pink satin quilted bunting bag with hood for baby or large doll was made and hand embroidered in Quebec by Lacasse Fiset. I would say this bag dates from the 1960s or earlier.
The bunting bag is made from soft pink satin with a metal zipper 2/3 of the way down the front. It is entirely lined with soft pink cotton flannel. There is a roomy insert at the bottom and an attached hood with cord drawstring around the face opening. The opening is finished with plain satin binding that also continues down the front of the bag on either side of the zipper and ties at the neck with a big bow.
The right front side is appliqued with a white plush stork and hand embroidered with the letters “BeBe” hanging by strings from the beak. The Bs are in blue and the es in pink. of course BeBe is baby in French!
The stork stands on bits of green embroidery with a few French knots in pink and yellow to represent flowers.
The bunting bag measures 25” long from the neck down by 17” wide, the hood adds another 9 inches.
The bunting bag is in excellent condition the satin is shiny and soft, the exterior is free of any damage, and is clean except for two short pale yellow lines.
On the inside I saw a faint yellow line on the hood and some pale yellow on the lining of the body more a result of age than use.
This is a wonderful vintage garment for the new baby for use in a pram or cot. It would also look lovely displayed with a vintage wicker pram, or large doll bed.
It will take you back to the time when babies were dressed like babies not miniature adults.

Please welcome Sabre & Bella ?

Sabre is the ginger one who you can see, Bella is a tabby who is next to him. They are two young semi feral cats who first came to NANNA when they were feral kittens, they socialised them and they became so used to people, then they rehomed them, unfortunatly to the wrong type of person. The person returned them feral again, and NANNA don't know what happened to them, most likely just left them outside to fend for themselves, never having human contact.

NANNA has a site at a field where most of the animals are, but some are up at the house until they have room to bring them down. Once I was working at the house, and saw these cats, they looked very scared, but I thought they were just uncomfortable in their surroundings. Then, my mum came up to collect me from the house one day, she saw the two and asked about their story - it turns out that they would have to stay with NANNA for the rest of their lives (in a pen) because they couldn't rehome them, and they didn't have time to help them.

I needed to help them, it's not fair and they deserve a life with a family who can look after them properly and love them. I'm going to use Bach Flower Remedies and T touch to try and reach them, and I won't give up.

We are just seeing how they're settling in for now, but they are already more relaxed then I've seen them, so I think it's safe to say that we've adopted them :) So yes, please welcome Sabre and Bella.

Also, about Simba, we still haven't found him. But we've searched the roads and checked any farm traps, we've handed out flyers through doors so people could check sheds/lofts etc., we've put him on a missing pets listing, he's microchipped. He also went missing in the night and doesn't go near anyone (he also looks like a moggie) so I don't think anyone's taken him.

It's also been continuously nice weather, always warm, and when it rains he probably doesn't feel it because of his weather proof fur. There's a farm with tons of feilds and rabbits everywhere, so I'm just hoping that he's up there somewhere on a kitty holiday or something, because our old cat Scampy did this a couple years ago - disappeared for 5-6 weeks, then we found her on a wet and cold day in the farm, and she was fine.

I won't give up on him, either.

I took this shot In Giverny, during a visit in the wonderful garden of Claude Monet. Water Lilies (or Nympheas) is a series of approximately 250 oil paintings by French Impressionist Claude Monet (1840-1926). The paintings depict his flower garden at Giverny and were the main focus of Monet's artistic production during the last thirty years of his life. Many of the works were painted as Monet suffered from cataracts.

During the 1920s, the state of France built a pair of oval rooms at the Musee de l'Orangerie (I visited them, too) as a permanent home for eight water lily murals by Monet. The exhibit opened to the public on May 16, 1927, a few months after Monet's death.

This painting belongs to a series of fourteen blossoming orchards that Van Gogh painted in spring 1888, shortly after his arrival in Arles, the Provencal town in the south of France where he worked from February 1888 until May 1889. The present example, which includes a scythe and rake, is one of only two orchards that allude to human presence or labor. The motif and Van Gogh's stylized treatment are related to Japanese prints.

Mt. Adams visible at the end of the orchard row. You can't see much (if anything) of Mt. Adams from Portland, and I forgot how visible it is from Hood River. And then Mt. Hood is clearly visible in the other direction. Beautiful views in this valley!

If you have more than one child, you love all of them. You don't love them equally, meaning the exact same way, but love them you do. Why, then, cannot you love more than one person romantically as well, each having their own unique thread of love?

And that is what this book is about - an attempt to frame a forbidden romance in a way that the average person can identify with, and imagine him or herself within. Come and experience what it could be like if we were allowed to love to our full potential. Yes, it is fiction. Yes it is a fantasy. But I bet you the price of the book that you'll think of at least two people you wish you could be in love with, in the way described in the story.

Bob MacAllister, trying to escape a failed romance, takes off into the unknown, where fate leads him to the Simmons Apple Orchard, where he is taken in by Lynne, the single mom of 13-year-old Jill. Over the next five years the three of them become a family, and then more, somehow, as both Bob and Lynne heal from the slings and arrows of damaged love, and Jill begins to explore the big, wide world of her own feelings. Nothing seems to go as expected, though. Jill has a boyfriend, but they don't act like a couple. Bob lives in the house with the women, but is really just an employee. Coincidence, like waves in the ocean, toss the three this way and that, until suddenly a most unlikely destination is arrived at - a destination that none of them would have dreamed could exist, where two women can love one man, and he can give them both what they need emotionally and physically.
