Beaded Medicine Wheel

beaded medicine wheel

    medicine wheel
  • A stone circle built by North American Indians, believed to have religious, astronomical, territorial, or calendrical significance

  • Medicine wheels, or sacred hoops, were constructed by laying stones in a particular pattern on the ground. Most medicine wheels follow the basic pattern of having a center of stone(s), and surrounding that is an outer ring of stones with "spokes", or lines of rocks radiating from the center.

  • A large circular pattern made on the ground through the placement of stones. The patterns could include other rings, spokes and cairns. The Blackfoot indians used these kinds of structures as part of a death lodge to inter famous and powerful warriors.

  • Since 50 states werenit enough, yuppie New Agers stole this ritual so they could use it to fix flat tires on their mountain bikes and Jeeps.

Gerald Jacobs medicine wheel basket

Gerald Neptune Jacobs, Passamaquoddy, creates fine fancy baskets that incorporate various elements of the natural world, such as starfish and sea urchins. This basket is embellished with an antler handle, glass beads and porcupine quills. The colors in the basket represent the medicine wheel, which according to Jacobs "is a physical manifestation of spiritual energy." This basket was purchased for the Abbe Museum collections at the 2011 Native American Festival and Basketmakers Market made possible by additions to the Diane Kopec Fund from the family of the late Anne Molloy Howells.

Huguenot Monument, Franschhoek

Huguenot Monument, Franschhoek

The Huguenot Monument in Franschhoek, South Africa, is dedicated to the cultural influences that Huguenots have brought to the Cape Colony (and ultimately the whole of South Africa) after their immigration during the 17th and 18th centuries.

The monument was designed by J.C. Jongens, completed in 1945 and inaugurated by Dr. A.J van der Merwe on April 17th 1948.

The three high arches symbolizes the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. On top of the arches is the sun of righteousness and above that, the cross of their Christian faith.

The central female figure, created by Coert Steynberg, personifies religious freedom with a bible in her one hand and broken chain in the other. She is casting off her cloak of oppression and her position on top of the globe shows her spiritual freedom. The fleur-de-lis on her robe represents a noble spirit and character.

The southern tip of the globe shows the symbols of their religion (the Bible), art and culture (the harp), the agriculture and viticulture (the sheaf of corn and grape vine) and industry (spinning wheel).

The water pond, reflecting the colonnade behind it, expresses the undisturbed tranquility of mind and spiritual peace the Huguenots experienced after much conflict and strife.

The Memorial Museum neighbouring the monument elaborates on the history of the French Huguenots who settled in the Cape, and especially in the Franschhoek valley. On exhibition are the various tools they used to make wine, clothes they wore and the culture and desire for a better life that they brought with them.

Also on the site are wine cellars joined by a colonnade, which bears the words Post Tenebras Lux (lit. "after darkness [comes] light"). It was the motto of the Protestants during the Reformation, and is also inscribed on the Reformation Wall in Geneva, Switzerland.

1982 Renault 5 Turbo

1982 Renault 5 Turbo

The Renault 5 Turbo or R5 Turbo is a high-performance hatchback automobile that was produced by the French manufacturer Renault in the early 1980s. The car was designed for rallying, but was also sold in road-going guise.
[edit] Design

Although the standard Renault 5 has a front-mounted engine, the 5 Turbo featured a mid-mounted 1397 cc Cleon turbocharged engine placed behind the driver in mid-body in a modified Renault 5 chassis.[citation needed] In standard form, the engine developed 160 PS (118 kW; 158 hp). Though it used a modified body from a standard Renault 5, and was badged a Renault 5, the mechanicals were radically different.

The first 400 production 5 Turbos were made to comply with Group 4 homologation. A second version, named Turbo 2, was introduced using stock Renault 5 parts replacing many of light alloy components in the original 5 Turbo version. The original 5 Turbo was in retrospect called "Turbo 1". The Turbo 2 was less expensive, but had nearly the same levels of performance.
[edit] Racing

All the racing derivatives were based on the Turbo 1. The factory pushed the engine output up to 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp) for the Criterium des Cevennes, 210 PS (154 kW; 207 hp) for the Tour de Corse, and possibly as much as 350 PS (257 kW; 345 hp) in the Maxi 5 Turbo[citation needed]. These kits featured stronger engine internals and more efficient intercoolers.

Driven by Jean Ragnotti the R5 Turbo won the Monte Carlo Rally on its first outing in the World Rally Championship. The 2WD R5 turbo soon faced the competition of new Group B four-wheel drive cars that proved faster on dirt. However, it remained among the fastest of its era on tarmac where it was highly successful[citation needed].

In 2004, Sports Car International named the R5 Turbo number nine on the list of Top Sports Cars of the 1980s.

An Angels and Demons story.
Layla Roads' life is a laundry list of irony. Trailer trash. High school dropout. Beautiful liar. Highly skilled computer hacker. And one additional, extraordinary gift: the ability to see the demons and angels engaged in a ferocious battle on the urban streets at night.
When kidnappers hold her brother, Layla finds herself up to her neck in a plot to bring down a powerful blood demon. A crude, sexual, violent demon who kills without flinching, pushes her buttons, and looks at her with too-knowing eyes. What's worse is she feels an answering tug of desire.
It doesn't take Gethin long to figure out he has a pretty traitor on his hands--and that she's being blackmailed. As a lone human female her quest to save her brother is hopeless--just like the attraction between them. For even if Gethin helps her save all she holds dear, she can never be his...

Wilson Phillips
Hold On

I know this pain
Why do lock yourself up in these chains?
No one can change your life except for you
Dont ever let anyone step all over you
Just open your heart and your mind
Is it really fair to feel this way inside?

Chorus:
Some day somebodys gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Dont you know?
Dont you know things can change
Thingsll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day
Thingsll go your way
Hold on for one more day

You could sustain
Or are you comfortable with the pain?
Youve got no one to blame for your unhappiness
You got yourself into your own mess
Lettin your worries pass you by
Dont you think its worth your time
To change your mind?

(chorus)

I know that there is pain
But you hold on for one more day and
Break free the chains
Yeah I know that there is pain
But you hold on for one more day and you
Break free, break from the chains

Some day somebodys gonna make you want to
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then baby are you going to let them
Hold you down and make you cry
Dont you know?
Dont you know things can change
Thingsll go your way
If you hold on for one more day yeah
If you hold on

Dont you know things can change
Thingsll go your way
If you hold on for one more day,
If you hold on
Can you hold on
Hold on baby
Wont you tell me now
Hold on for one more day cause
Its gonna go your way

Dont you know things can change
Thingsll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Cant you change it this time

Make up your mind
Hold on
Hold on
Baby hold on

Broken Wings

Broken Wings

On broken wings I'm falling
And it won't be long
The skin on me is burning
By the fires of the sun
On skinned knees
I'm bleeding
And it won't be long
I've got to find that meaning
I'll search for so long

Cry ourselves to sleep
We will sleep alone forever
Will you lay me down
In the same place with all I love

Mend the broken homes
Care for them they are our brothers
Save the fading light in our souls

In my opinion seeing is to know
What you give
Will always carry you
And who's to say
We won't survive it too.....

First, Break All the Rules: What the World's Greatest Managers Do Differently

The greatest managers in the world seem to have little in common. They differ in sex, age, and race. They employ vastly different styles and focus on different goals. Yet despite their differences, great managers share one common trait: They do not hesitate to break virtually every rule held sacred by conventional wisdom. They do not believe that, with enough training, a person can achieve anything he sets his mind to. They do not try to help people overcome their weaknesses. They consistently disregard the golden rule. And, yes, they even play favorites. This amazing book explains why.
Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman of the Gallup Organization present the remarkable findings of their massive in-depth study of great managers across a wide variety of situations. Some were in leadership positions. Others were front-line supervisors. Some were in Fortune 500 companies; others were key players in small, entrepreneurial companies. Whatever their situations, the managers who ultimately became the focus of Gallup's research were invariably those who excelled at turning each employee's talent into performance.
In today's tight labor markets, companies compete to find and keep the best employees, using pay, benefits, promotions, and training. But these well-intentioned efforts often miss the mark. The front-line manager is the key to attracting and retaining talented employees. No matter how generous its pay or how renowned its training, the company that lacks great front-line managers will suffer.

Buckingham and Coffman explain how the best managers select an employee for talent rather than for skills or experience; how they set expectations for him or her -- they define the right outcomes rather than the right steps; how they motivate people -- they build on each person's unique strengths rather than trying to fix his weaknesses; and, finally, how great managers develop people -- they find the right fit for each person, not the next rung on the ladder. And perhaps most important, this research -- which initially generated thousands of different survey questions on the subject of employee opinion -- finally produced the twelve simple questions that work to distinguish the strongest departments of a company from all the rest. This book is the first to present this essential measuring stick and to prove the link between employee opinions and productivity, profit, customer satisfaction, and the rate of turnover.
There are vital performance and career lessons here for managers at every level, and, best of all, the book shows you how to apply them to your own situation.

Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman expose the fallacies of standard management thinking in First, Break All the Rules: What the World's Greatest Managers Do Differently. In seven chapters, the two consultants for the Gallup Organization debunk some dearly held notions about management, such as "treat people as you like to be treated"; "people are capable of almost anything"; and "a manager's role is diminishing in today's economy." "Great managers are revolutionaries," the authors write. "This book will take you inside the minds of these managers to explain why they have toppled conventional wisdom and reveal the new truths they have forged in its place."
The authors have culled their observations from more than 80,000 interviews conducted by Gallup during the past 25 years. Quoting leaders such as basketball coach Phil Jackson, Buckingham and Coffman outline "four keys" to becoming an excellent manager: Finding the right fit for employees, focusing on strengths of employees, defining the right results, and selecting staff for talent--not just knowledge and skills. First, Break All the Rules offers specific techniques for helping people perform better on the job. For instance, the authors show ways to structure a trial period for a new worker and how to create a pay plan that rewards people for their expertise instead of how fast they climb the company ladder. "The point is to focus people toward performance," they write. "The manager is, and should be, totally responsible for this." Written in plain English and well organized, this book tells you exactly how to improve as a supervisor. --Dan Ring

0 PHOTOGRAPH PARTICULARS 0

These photographs are from the Square Tower section of Hovenweep National Monument. An outlier of Chaco Canyon, it is a good place to get a feel for the architecture and “place” where the Anasazi briefly prospered, then moved and dispersed (becoming the Hopi, Zuni, and other modern Pueblo people of today).

We took the rim trail loop which gives you a good look at the highly variable masonry buildings the Anasazi built. Buy and read the book: People of Chaco by Frederick Frazier before you visit Hovenweep or Chaco Canyon for a good understanding of the fantastic history of the people, who built these structures and lived out their lives here.

If you read this book, you will also see why I had such an interest in traveling the Turquoise Trail and visiting Cerrillos, New Mexico. This is where the turquoise came from that was found in such abundance at Chaco Canyon….a stone very important to the ancient ones and modern day Pueblo people.

At Hovenweep there are holes in the outside walls of many of the buildings designed to direct a shaft of light to a particular niche or place on a plaster wall in the interior to mark important celestial events (summer and winter solstices).

These people grew corn, beans, squash and amaranth (grain). They may have grown cotton as well. Like the Chaco people, they had access to far off trade goods from the Pacific and Mexico. Turquoise, sea shells, macaw feathers, and copper bells have been discovered at many of the sites. Turquoise and fine pottery may have been their primary trade exchange items.

Most of the buildings you see when you take the loop hike were constructed in the 1200’s. Amazing to gaze through the same windows they did and try to imagine the lives that they led.

0 ACTIVITIES DAY FOUR OF TWELVE 0

Day Four was pretty much a “travel” day on this road trip. We left Moab Thursday morning and headed for Farmington, New Mexico. We took a short trip west into the start of the Needles district of Canyonlands NP to see Newspaper Rock. Years ago, my wife and I had traveled into the Needles district with our four wheel drive Isuzu Trooper, driven the sand wash down Salt Creek and Horse Canyon to hike to Fortress and Castle Arch.

Ed and I decided at Newspaper Rock to back track a short ways and try a paved “loop” route into Monticello. We climbed high and steadily on FR 174. The views were outstanding. At a “T” we turned right to a small frozen lake set in an aspen grove (Shay Road to Aspen Flat). Returning to Forest Road 174 we almost made it to the summit, when we ran into snow on the road too deep to tackle. A newer car had been left in the middle of the road, where they had become stuck.

We retraced our route down the side of the Abajo Mountains (Abajo translates to “under” in Spanish), then on to Blanding, Utah. Here we had one of the best meals on the trip (Homestead Steakhouse).

We visited the modern “Edge of the Cedars” Native American museum at Blanding then drove to Hovenweep National Monument. I kept shaking my head at all the changes that had taken place over the years since my wife and I made trips to the area. In the 70s the Edge of the Cedars was just a dirt trail to an overlook and pour over by some cliff dwellings.

Back then, we had driven miles of dirt road to Hovenweep, to an unmanned small ranger’s station and parked right next to Castle ruin. We hiked down into the canyon to square tower ruin. On the last trip I filmed my wife and our kids hiking the area with a VHS movie camera.

But now, Ed and I drove his comfortable Jeep on paved roads all the way to a large modern well staffed visitors’ center at Hovenweep, where the trail out to Castle ruin is paved. No longer are you allowed to hike down into the canyon floor beside Square Tower ruin. That said, the loop hike along the rim that has been developed, the excellent visitors’ center, and the helpful rangers - - make a visit and hike worthwhile. It also provides more protection to the ruins that unfortunately, occasionally are vandalized.

From Hovenweep we headed for Farmington via back roads, with me constantly having heated arguments with the GPS navigator I choose to call “The NUVI lady”. She is usually right but when she errs it is a big one. We didn’t travel the route we intended to Farmington, but we got there. Shiprock was a footnote stop on the way to Farmington. With rain in the area we didn’t want to take any of the dirt roads leading close to it, so satisfied ourselves with “roadside” snapshots of the brooding volcanic neck that was such a classic landmark to early travelers (Shiprock).

0 3,875 MILE/12 DAY ~ 4 CORNERS ROAD TRIP OVERVIEW 0

At the start of year 2011, I made tentative plans to take a two week solo “road trip” through the Four Corners area (The Colorado Plateau), during the last half of March. Then, if my wife could get the time needed off from her part time job, I also planned a “road trip” vacation to the Southwest, in April with he

Amazing stone work

Amazing stone work

0 PHOTOGRAPH PARTICULARS 0

The smooth radius wall and the work required to maintain a horizontal level is well demonstated here. This was built in the 1200s.

Asterix en Corse (French edition of Asterix in Corsica)

Asterix en Corse (French edition of Asterix in Corsica)

The Adventures of Asterix (French: Asterix or Asterix le Gaulois) is a series of French comic books written by Rene Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo (Uderzo also took over the job of writing the series after the death of Goscinny in 1977). The series first appeared in French in the magazine Pilote on 29 October 1959. As of 2008, 33 comic books in the series have been released.

The series follows the exploits of a village of ancient Gauls as they resist Roman occupation. They do so by means of a magic potion, brewed by their druid, which gives the recipient superhuman strength. The protagonist, the titular character, Asterix, along with his friend Obelix have various adventures. In many cases, this leads them to travel to various countries around the world, though other books are set in and around their village. For much of the history of the series (Volumes 4 through 29), settings in Gaul and abroad alternated, with even-numbered volumes set abroad and odd-numbered volumes set in Gaul, mostly in the village.

The Asterix series is one of the most popular Franco-Belgian comics in the world, with the series being translated into over 100 languages, and it is popular in most European countries.

The success of the series has led to the adaptation of several books into 11 films; eight animated, and three with live actors. There have also been a number of games based on the characters, and a theme park near Paris, Parc Asterix, is themed around the series. To date, 325 million copies of 33 Asterix books have been sold around the world making co-creators Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo France's bestselling authors abroad.

POPS' Atlantean at 50

POPS' Atlantean at 50

Anyone who saw the Potteries Omnibus Preservation Society's PMT Atlantean last year, is likely to have seen it carrying a bit of bunting. The purpose was to draw attention to the bus' 50th anniversary. New to PMT in 1959, this Atlantean remained in service until 1980. Altogether PMT took 105 low-bridge Atlanteans, but 766 (766EVT) is the only known survivor.
The decorations have now been removed and 766 has recently passed MoT ready for the 51st year.
This photograph was taken from the upper deck of 622 on our way to the "PMT Red Lion Reunion" at Crich on 16 August 2009. The location is Uttoxeter Bus Station, with POPS' "Living Legend" at the wheel.

The last survivor (though rumour has it there may be one other) of 11 Lynxes delivered new in 1990, 860 became First 60094. Its last years with First PMT were as a driver trainer, in which livery it is seen, posed by the giant bottle ovens at Gladstone Pottery Museum. Some evidence of recent repair work can be seen over the rear wheel arch. 860 is now preserved by the organiser of this event.

After playing Killzone on the PS2 for a few hours, I came up with this. It's sort-of a small LAV, except it doesn't carry troops it just blows them apart. I know the Lancer tanks in Killzone are modeled after the AMX RC-10, so that's where some inspiration came from.

I actually quite like it and (get this) I am considering buying it from LDD. If I were to buy it, I'd get rid of the entire axle assembly and just get the tires, and then give it suspension and steering.

Tyring A Wheel

Tyring A Wheel

I took this and the companion photo at Acton Scott Historic Working Farm in Shropshire (as featured on the recent Victorian Farm programme).

Amongst other things, the chap in the hat regularly uses the permanent forge facilities on site to 'tyre' wagon wheels. This involves heating a metal wheel-tyre in an open fire (visible in the background in the other shot) till it is red-hot, then dropping it over the wooden wheel rim and rapidly cooling it with buckets of water - hence the clouds of steam. As the metal tyre is made slightly smaller than the circumference of the wheel, it contracts onto the rim and tightens the whole wheel up.

The wheel is mounted on a spindle over a circular metal base let into the ground. Once the rim has tightened, the nut is removed from the spindle and the wheel checked for circularity by rotating it in the circle opening at the centre of the ring.

In this case the guy on the right had made four wheels for a small wagon to be used in a theatrical production, and was using the specialist skills and equipment still available at the farm to tyre them authentically. However, the facility is still regularly used to tyre full sized wheels, which can then last for 50 years or more.

Bathing machine in Eastbourne - side view

Bathing machine in Eastbourne - side view

A bathing machine restored to its former glory.

Normally in Edwardian photographs you see them in sepia looking quite small in the distance, but when you get close up to one it looks a very large, sturdily-built piece of equipment. On reflection it would have to be, otherwise it would be moved by the incoming waves.

Note the decorative ventilation holes that can be opened or closed with small sliding shutters mounted on the inside.

You can see an early photograph of bathing machines in use at Bognor Regis if you do a tags search on 33BM72, and you can see them on the beach in Sheringham with 31STP76.

Volkswagen T3: Transporter, Caravelle, Camper and Vanagon 1979-1992

Volkswagen T3: Transporter, Caravelle, Camper and Vanagon 1979-1992

It has taken some time for Volkswagen's third-generation Transporter to gain the iconic status freely awarded to the first-generation 'Splittie' and its successor, the 'Bay'. Now, however, the T3, also variously called the T25, 'Wedge' or [less flatteringly] the 'Brick', is well and truly established as part of the classic VW scene. In part, this has been down to the soaring prices and limited availability of the earlier models, but perhaps too the T3 has finally been recognized as a worthy successor to those venerable classics, and maybe even cherished as the last of the air-cooled Volkswagens. Topics covered: Background story, 1949-1979.Design concept to production, 1973-1979.Full analysis of the T3's specifications. Air-cooled, diesel and water-cooled engines. Four-wheel-drive and luxury passenger-carrying models. Camping conversions.

Smiths Alloy Wheels

smiths alloy wheels

    alloy wheels
  • A term used to describe any non-steel road wheel. The most common alloy wheels are cast aluminum. Technically, an alloy is a mixture of two or more metals. These wheels are known for their light weight and strength.

  • Alloy wheels (incorrectly known as rims) are automobile (car, motorcycle and truck) wheels which are made from an alloy of aluminium or magnesium (or sometimes a mixture of both). They are typically lighter for the same strength and provide better heat conduction and improved cosmetic appearance.

  • (Alloy Wheel) Car wheels made of aluminium, rather than steel. Main advantages include lighter weight and attractive styling. Mostly chosen for style reasons.

The Sound of the Smiths: The Very Best of the Smiths

Deluxe 2 CD version, with disc 2 containing choice B sides, live cuts, and rarities. The Smiths formed in Manchester in 1982 and quickly rose to become the quintessential British indie rock band of their day. Powered by the collaboration between lead singer and lyricist Morrissey and lead guitarist and co-songwriter Johnny Marr, their sound had a literary and musical depth that was complex, emotional and often controversial-at the same time, it rang with The Smiths' unique twist on timeless melodic pop sensibilities. On Rhino's new compilation, the group's biggest hits and most important tracks are represented.

Lancaster Bomber

Lancaster Bomber

England. C.1943-11. The scoreboard on "G for George", the famous AVRO Lancaster B1 Bomber Aircraft (W4783) of No. 460 Squadron, RAAF, after it had completed 67 operations. The "Saint" Figures next to the bombs indicate missions flown by Flight Sergeant J.A. Saint Smith; The Medal Ribbons appearing after each 30th bomb is an `Award' given to the aircraft by the squadron; The "V for Victory" signs on some of the bombs indicate missions flown by Flying Officer J. Henderson; The pair of cherries indicate missions flown by Pilot Officer "Cherry" Carter. Note: The "Saint figures" next to the second and third bombs were later removed, because these missions were flown by Flight Sergeant T A. McKinnon. (Donor J. Richmond)

The Lancaster is a four engine heavy bomber. Serial number W4783 was ordered in 1940 as part of a batch of 400 Lancaster aircraft constructed by Metropolitan Vickers Ltd in the UK. The aircraft was delivered to 460 Squadron RAAF in October 1942. It is powered by four Rolls-Royce Merlin XX 12 cylinder liquid-cooled engines, with a single stage centrifugal supercharger. Note W4783 was fitted with Merlin 22 engines while in Australia. The airframe is constructed primarily of aluminium alloy. The aircraft breaks down into a number of major sub-assemblies for ease of construction and transport. Steel tube and forgings are used for the installation of the engines undercarriage and some smaller fittings. It is fitted with a tail wheel undercarriage. The aircraft normally carries a crew of seven: Pilot, Navigator, Wireless Operator, Bomb Aimer, Flight Engineer, Mid-Upper Gunner and Rear Gunner. When first constructed W4783 was fitted with a mid-under defensive gun position, which would have required an eighth crewman. There is no evidence that this position was retained when the aircraft entered operational service. A timber blanking panel was fitted in the mounting equipped with a flare shoot. This aircraft was never fitted with H2S radar. The bomb load varied depending on the type and duration of the operation but a common load was 14000 pounds (6350kgs of bombs or incendiaries). Defensive armament consists of eight guns installed in three turrets; two in the forward turret, two in the mid-upper turret and four in the rear turret. The cruising speed is 200mph (322km/h) and maximum speed is 287mph (467km/h).

This aircraft was ordered in 1940 in a batch of 400 Lancaster B Mk I and Mk III aircraft. It was delivered to 460 Squadron RAAF on 27 October 1942 and assigned the call sign 'G' for George. While in service with the squadron, it flew some 90 operations with 27 crews. The main crews were captained by Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) J A Saint-Smith (13 operations), Flt Sgt J Murray (13 operations), Flying Officer Henderson (10 operations), and Pilot Officer H Carter (21 operations). The aircraft's longest operation lasted 10:09 flying hours, to La Spezia, Italy on 13 April 1943. Its last operation was a raid on Cologne, Germany on 20 April 1944. When G for George retired from service after this raid it had completed more operations than almost any other aircraft in RAF Bomber Command. In June 1944 the Department of Air made it available for war museum purposes and after an extensive overhaul it left for Australia on 11 October 1944, flown by an all-Australian crew captained by Flight Lieutenant E A Hudson, DFC and Bar. It arrived in Brisbane, Queensland on 8 November 1944 and the following day was received by 3 Aircraft Depot, Amberley where it was given RAAF registration number A66-2. In 1945 the aircraft toured the eastern states of Australia in connection with the Third Victory Loan until finally declared surplus and transferred to the Australian War Memorial.

Lotus Esprit 30th July HDR

S2

1980 S2
A series of improvements made to the Esprit during its initial run culminated in the S2 (or Series 2) Esprit. The most obvious of these changes are intake and cooling duct "ears" located behind the rear quarter window, tail lights from the Rover SD1, and an integrated front spoiler. S2 Esprits also used 14-inch (360 mm) Speedline alloy wheels designed specifically for Lotus. Other changes included relocating the battery from above the right side fuel tank (under the rear quarter window) to the rear of the car, adding an access door to the engine cover, as well as replacing the instrument cluster made by Veglia with individual gauges made by Smiths and using different style of switches on the dashboard.
During this era, special edition cars were made to commemorate Lotus's racing victories. Sharing the black and gold colour scheme of Lotus' then F1 sponsor, John Player & Sons, these cars are commonly known as the John Player Special (JPS) Esprits. Lotus' records of production figures are notoriously vague, however best estimates suggest that 149 JPS Esprits were produced.[

Meat Is Murder

Vinyl LP pressing. Newly re-mastered audio by Frank Arkwright (overseen by Johnny Marr, no less) and packaged in the original sleeves with original labels and original inner bags, pressed on high-quality 180 gram vinyl! This absolutely classic album from the Manchester quartet was originally released in 1985. Though the band only lasted four years as a recording unit, their influence can still be seen, heard and felt more than two decades after they officially split up. Rhino.

Singer Morrissey's brittle wit and guitarist Johnny Marr's incisive guitar helped make the Smiths create both an entranced cult following and pop music of the highest order. The U.S. edition of the band's second album includes the bonus single "How Soon Is Now?" and while it's a welcome addition, the rest of the tracks stand ably on their own. The militant vegetarianism is heavy-handed, but the sly humor of "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" and "I Want the One I Can't Have" present proof of the band's scope, as do the anthemic "The Headmaster Ritual" and "Rusholme Ruffians." --Rob O'Connor

Phil and I finally got out and got to take some pictures of these fine machines. his 954rr and my 929rr, commonly refereed to as "Fireblades". We rode up the street trying to keep this shoot on a time budget as I had a show that night, but were able to find a decent location in the shade where I could pull out some light.

Expect many more bike shoots this summer as the weather has finally decided to start cooperating.

about the bike: I searched high and low for an exhaust that made power all the way throughout the powerband and once that didn't need to be removed to change the oil filter. The micron exhaust was definitely the way to go. I had the can (among other parts on the bike) powdercoated black wrinkle to go along w/ the b&w theme, and the header/exhaust wrapped in black exhaust wrap. Black stainless steel brake lines were installed, the wheels were powdercoated white, and the powercommander was tuned for the full exhaust. I would love to powdercoat the brake caliper as well as the rear sprocket but I am just enjoying riding it at the moment!

I found this old white coloured wheel somewhere outdoor on a acclivity. Quite hidden and hard to see from the street far away. The wheel was almost taken back by nature.

This was shot with an Nikon D700 with AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 which makes a delicious bokeh.
