Homemade Trommel
A friend of mine (Jason) approached me with plans to build a prospecting trommel; he intended to use the machine for gold prospecting. I did the welding for him and the machine came together rather quickly. Later we added a small water pump to spray a continuous shower of water into the barrel and two motorcycle batteries to power the both the pump and drive motor then we added a solar panel to provide a constant trickle charge to the batteries. Jason tells me that he has used the machine and it worked even better than he expected.

Inside the yurt. The yurts had propane stoves and tankless water heaters, compost toilets, and a small bank of batteries that could power a water pump for showering...other than that there was no electricity...nothing connecting them to the mainland...fresh water, propane tanks, and a small generator to recharge the batteries had to be brought by boat every so often.

Een voormalige Onderzeebootloods in de haven van Rotterdam is omgetoverd tot de grootste expositieruimte van Nederland. Op deze locatie trapt Atelier Van Lieshout af met de spectaculaire tentoonstelling Infernopolis. In de loods van bijna 5000m2 groot heeft Atelier Van Lieshout een huiveringwekkende setting gecreeerd, waarin medische instrumenten, vacuumpompen, silo's, schedels, skeletten, reusachtige spermacellen en organen de hoofdrol spelen. Twee enorme installaties, The Technocrat en Cradle to Cradle, staan opgesteld naast een woud van nieuwe en bestaande sculpturen.
Atelier Van Lieshout is inaugurating this space with the spectacular exhibition Infernopolis. In the 5000m2 space Atelier Van Lieshout has created a terrifying setting in which medical instruments, vacuum pumps, silos, skulls, skeletons, and giant sperm cells and bodily organs are the main protagonists. Two enormous installations, ‘The Technocrat’ and ‘Cradle to Cradle’, are installed amid a forest of existing and new sculptures. A unique partnership between the Port of Rotterdam and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.

This was an interesting operation. My first time cementing new runs of PVC. Dave helped me out a lot. We had a great time. You can see the index marks we made with a sharpie on the joints.
We "met in the middle", i.e. fashioned the 1-1/4" ---> 1-1/2" expansion, then the horizontal and elbow. Then dry fit the wye and check valves, did a measurement for the vertical pipes, got everything dry fit and the pumps arranged, then made the index marks, pulled everything out and cemented it all together. Whee!
Note that when Dave tightened the hose clamps on the check valves, he aligned them for easy removal from the front. Also, I wanted to install the check valves at the exact same height. Dave suggested staggering them so that one would be easy to remove without interference from the other.

I have been working on this puppy from mid December, until February 11th (Egypt's liberation), for 55 days exactly. I tried to step up my techniques game by adding airbrush (thanx to Luc Bouchard for lending me his pump) and oil paints (thanx to Kevin Ledo for the refresher sessions).
The piece is about a normal ...urban human as the middle of it's reality, at a crucial time where all parallel realities are open. As opposed to past mega paintings that focus more on worldwide and ancient cultures, I wanted to give more props to our own contemporary North American cultures. The man has a city landscape skate jam session going on to his right/east and a rocky mountain rain-forest surf session to his left/west. I also included graffiti and tattoos as art cultures I appreciate in our areas. The man is holing a power ball of light that has a crystal scull inside, the ancient technology we need to balance out the vibration and create the rainbow bridge to a better reality. To the left he has a futuristic ET , equipped with a Nintendo Power Glove, Zapper and Flux Capacitor (props to video game and psi-fi cultures) and to the right he has a multicultural Goddess Priestess with a mega crystal. Both shoot rays to activate his heart, so the evolution is complete.
Above we have a more higher aspect of the God face, complete with flower/plant soul, freedom bird consciousness, 3d flower of life and a votex into infinity! We also see the Sun and Moon on each side of the male/female duality of this canvas, as well as a dieing planet with blood earth and black oil sea (top left), and a pure healed earth (top right) that is upside down cause it is after the axis flip.

At the moment, it sits in front of my house.
This has had a variety of engines, a turbo, a V6 a NA 2.0 - all of which were taken out.
The fuel pump jammed up, the coil has gone, and the half tank of fuel has gone yellow. The interior was full of mouse poo, it stank, and glass was everywhere.
Windscreen and dents courtesy of vandals/thieves that broke in. I will sort it all out in summer 2011. I intend to spend a few weeks giving it a complete overhaul, a full respray with new interior and a new rebuilt engine.

These are pictures of a replica Colt (as in the firearm company) steam engine. Like the Colt revolver, the cylinders revolve around a central axle. Compression is achieved when the piston hits the angled swash plate. My dad's been a live-steamer for decades and picked this up somewhere. There is no info on the net about it as far as I can find.
