FLOWER POT PEN FAVORS - FLOWER POT

Dasshera /Vijay Dashami Dasara, also called "Navaratri",[citation needed] is among the most important festivals celebrated in India. Unlike Dussera, this is celebrated for 10 days in Southern parts. The Festival of Dasara is celebrated on the occasion of Navaratri. Celebrations are unique ranging from worshipping goddess Chamundeshwari (Durga) to exhibiting colorful toys on the day of 'bombe habba' in Kannada. See also: Navratri Ayudha puja This day is to worship weapons. People in the modern days worship automobiles, their machines on this day. 'Weapons' have been replaced with 'tools of the trade'. So people worship carpentry tools, computers, vehicles, cooking utensils etc etc. [edit] Vijaya Dashami The last day of all the celebrations is Vijaya Dashami. In Mysore, the tradition of holding a grand procession through the streets of this historic city, with the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari riding in a golden Ambaari (Elephant-seat) heaved on Elephant-back has been in effect since time immemorial. Indeed, for many centuries, presiding over the 10-day festivities was the hallmark of sovereignty over the Kingdom of Mysore. The Wodeyar Maharajas of Mysore celebrated the annual event on a grand scale; "Mysore Dasara" has attained renown across the country and abroad. People from all over the world go to Mysore to witness this cultural event. Many cultural events are held at the main Palace in Mysore. Post Independence, the Government of Karnataka has taken over the tradition and is continuing the celebration every year in the same tradition as the Old Mysore Kingdom. The whole palace is illuminated with lights. The entire city has a festive look. [edit] How to celebrate dasara In Karnataka, Ayudh Puja, the ninth day of Dasara, is celebrated with the worship of implements used in daily life such as computers, books, vehicles, kitchen tools etc. It is an effort to see the divine in the tools and objects one uses in daily life. Basically it includes all tools that help one earn one's livelihood. So knowledge workers go for books, pen or computers, plough and other agricultural tools by the farmer, machinery by industrialists and cars/buses/trucks by transporters are decorated with flowers and worshiped on this day invoking God's blessing for success in coming years. It is believed that any new venture such as starting of business or purchasing of new household items on this day is bound to succeed. [edit] A festive meals for puja time It is day when the best meals is cooked for a festival. •Luchi •Aloor Dum •Cholar Dal •Begun Bhaja •Payesh [edit] History This day marks the triumph of Lord Rama over Demon king Ravana. On this day, Rama killed Ravana. Rama was asked to go on exile because his stepmother, Queen Kaikeyee was tricked into asking King Dasaratha to exile him for 14 years. Rama's wife Sita, and his brother Lakshmana went with him willingly. News of Rama staying at an ashram while on exile spread rapidly. A demon, Shoorpanakha found her way there and demanded that Rama or Lakshmana marry her. When both brothers rejected her, she threatened to kill Sita, so that Rama would then be single again. Lakshmana then cut off her ears and nose. Shoorpanakha's brother was the demon King Ravana. Ravana was incensed to hear what happened to his sister, and kidnapped Sita to avenge the insult. The Ramayana chronicles Rama's travels and deeds as he searched for his wife, and defeated evil. [edit] Celebrations On this day, people spend the day decorating the entrances of houses & shops with flower studded strings called 'Torans' (Floral Gateways). At night, effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghanad are stuffed with firecrackers and set alight. Children especially enjoy seeing this because of the beautiful fireworks on the ground. The festival, which is thought of as the "Victory of Good over Evil" and "Return of Rama from Exile" is celebrated in grand style. Because the day is auspicious, people inaugurate new vehicles, machines, books, weapons and tools by ceremonially asking god to bless the new items. [edit] Variations across South Asia Dussehra is celebrated in various ways in different parts of South Asia. In Bengal, the festival is celebrated as Kali Puja or Durga Puja, while in Tamil Nadu, the festival incorporates worship of the goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Shakti. Some people feel that Dussehra and Dasara are not simply different transliterations of the same word, but two different festivals. Dasara is the festival marking end of Navratri and the immersion of Durga idols which are worshipped for nine days prior to Dussehra. Dussehra is also the day when many families start formal education of their kids. The practise has been so old, that in some parts of Kerala, even after conversions to Christianity, some members of the community continued this tradition. In 2004, many churches in Kerala formally adopted the same tradition of introducing young children to education on Dussehra Balliolman Flower Pot X Nikon Coolpix 5600 handheld cha-cha. FLOWERS IN WATER CENTERPIECES : WATER CENTERPIECES
Flowers In Water Centerpieces
Bristol Zoo Gardens centrepiece The zoo's official name is Bristol Zoological Gardens. This is not to boast of the wonderful flower displays in its gardens but in recognition of the first use of that title at the London, Regent's Park Zoological Gardens. Opened in 1836 by the Bristol, Clifton and West of England Zoological Society, Bristol Zoo is fifth oldest zoo in the world but is not a large zoo. It is a Victorian walled zoo located between Clifton Down and Clifton College, near Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge; it covers a small area by modern standards, but houses a considerable number of species. Bristol Zoo supports wildlife conservation, education and breeding programmes worldwide. For example, Bristol works with other zoos around the world to breed lemurs in captivity. Native to Madagascar, the lemurs are critically endangered because their forest habitat is being destroyed. Closer to home, the zoo has helped to reintroduce the water vole to parts of Southern England. A number of mammals are kept on a site to the north of Bristol. There are plans to relocate many more species to the Hollywood Tower estate as part of a second zoo. The new site at Cribbs Causeway, Bristol, will be called the National Wildlife Conservation Park and will include larger animals than in the existing Bristol Zoo. The zoo will be split into biomes, representing species found only in specific habitats. Some of the biomes to be included are Congo Basin Tropical Forest, Central American Swamp, African Savannah, Sumatra Tropical Forest, Nepal Riverine Forest, Coral Reef, British Ancient Woodland and British Wetlands. The species list for each ecosystem has not yet been finalised, but is likely to include Manatees, Crocodiles, Bonobos, Okapi, Bongo, Sumatran tiger, Orang-utan, Giraffe, Zebra, Warthog, Kudu, African hunting dog, Rhinoceros, Brown bear and Wolf. pca155 - See the Light Assignment: The goal of this assignment is to take a photo, of anything, where the subject is lit by artificial lighting. This could be a flash (on or off camera), a lamp, flashlight, headlight, etc. As long as it's not natural lighting it counts. The changing lights of the dance flower provided need reflections in the glass. 1. Raw conversion 2. Flipped the picture so the back candle was on the rightside 3. Pick Up Flower Girl Dress
flower girl dress With some $2 clearance fabric I picked up, I sewed this dress from Heather Ross's Weekend Sewing yesterday. I added buttons to the back to make it easier to take on and off (I think maybe I will add buttons to the front too for decoration). I also added a tuck in the front to keep the straps from sliding down her shoulders. I made the bodice a bit bigger than the pattern and it fits her almost 3 year old body just right! Easy and fun to make, not so easy to photograph on a wiggly toddler on a sunny afternoon. Flower Girl We were in the tulip field and my model was looking down and was about to pick up a flower, instead she looks up at me and the wind began to pick up. St. Luke's Episcopal Church Hamilton Heights, West Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States In addition to its fine residential architecture, the District has three handsome churches which delineate its boundaries. The earliest, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, was built in 1852-95 and was originally meant to replace St. Luke's in Greenwich Village. This magnificent structure, massive in scale and volume, was designed by Robert Robertson, one of Manhattan's leading church architects. He was an associate of the distinguished architect William Appleton Potter, and he also designed St. Martin's Church in the Mount Morris Park Historic District. St. Luke's, entered near the corner of 141st Street and Convent Avenue, is one of the most impressive Romanesque Revival churches in the City. Over the past four centuries, Hamilton Heights has had a succession of names, all referring to its elevated geographic position. Under Dutch rule the area was known as Jochem Pietersen's Hills, and later, under the British, Harlem Heights. During the siege of Manhattan in 1776, General George Washington retreated to Harlem Heights for several weeks, establishing his headquarters at the present location of West 161st Street and Edgecombe Avenue. Following several skirmishes with British troops, some of which occurred within the boundaries of the Historic District, the Continental Army evacuated to White Plains. Alexander Hamilton, who served under General Washington during the battles of Harlem Heights and White Plains, acquired a 32-acre tract in Harlem Heights in August 1800. At the center of his property, near the present intersection of West 144th Street and Convent Avenue, he commissioned a 12-room Federal-style mansion (a designated New York City Landmark) as well as various out-buildings from the prominent New York architect John McComb, Jr. Although Hamilton occupied the house for fewer than four years, the building (moved two blocks south in 1889) and neighborhood that surrounds it, remains closely associated with this American patriot. Hamilton Heights retained its rural character until the mid-1880s when a cable car railway began operating on Tenth (now Amsterdam) Avenue between West 125th and 155th Streets. During this period, William H. De Forest, a silk merchant and real estate speculator, acquired much of the former Hamilton property. In 1886 he created a restrictive covenant limiting future construction to "brick or stone dwelling houses at least two stories in height." One exception was made, along 10th Avenue, where both apartment buildings and commercial storefronts were permitted beside the railway. To spur development in accordance with his plan, De Forest's son, William De Forest, Jr., commissioned the architect Harvey L. Page to design an apartment building and four adjoining townhouses in the Queen Anne style at the southwest corner of Tenth (now Amsterdam) Avenue and West 144th Street. This pattern was maintained throughout the district, with mostly three-story residences along the numbered streets, Convent Avenue, and Hamilton Terrace; and a continuous row of mainly six-story apartments on the east side of Amsterdam Avenue, extending from West 140th Street to 145th Street. In several instances, a unified urban ensemble was created in which the corner apartments and the adjacent townhouses were designed by the same architects, including designs by such residential specialists as Clarence True and Neville & Bagge. Throughout the first decade of the twentieth century, Hamilton Heights retained its character as small-scale residential district. In 1906 the neighborhood's last group of single-family homes was built on the north side of West 141st Street, between Convent and Amsterdam Avenue. During the decade that followed, DeForest's restrictions expired and a group of apartment buildings, some as tall as ten stories, were erected along Convent Avenue and Hamilton Terrace, increasing the neighborhood's scale and density. This second wave of urbanization is also recognized in the Hamilton Heights Historic District Extension, including such neo-Renaissance style apartment houses as Nos. 61 and 75 Hamilton Terrace, the Sadivian Arms, and No. 270 Convent Avenue. Architects active in the design of these and other later buildings in the extension include: Neville & Bagge, Frank L. Norton, and Schwartz & Gross. With unbroken rows of handsome townhouses, contemporaneous apartment buildings and religious structures, Hamilton Heights is one of the city's most architecturally distinctive enclaves. The early history of the area' Throughout the first half of the seventeenth century the West India Company encouraged the development of New Netherland2 through generous land grants to settlers. While many preferred the security and convenience of Manhattan's fortified southern tip, called New Amsterdam, a small number chose to establish farms in the island's wooded north. Among these early pioneers was forty-two year old Captain Jochem Pietersen Kuyter, who in 1639 received a four hundred acre land grant in recognition of past military service in the East Indies for King Christian IV.3 Kuyter's property stretched across the island from what is now 122nd Street on the East River to 145th Street on the Hudson River. While he developed the rich flat parcels to the southeast as a plantation, the elevated grounds on the west, later known as "Jochem Pietersen's Hills," remained uninhabited. Life in Manhattan's rural north proved difficult for Kuyter and his wife Leentie Martensie.
