iPod touch features the same revolutionary interface as iPhone.
Glide, Flick, Pinch
Built to take full advantage of the large 3.5-inch display, the Multi-Touch touchscreen interface lets you control everything using only your fingers. So you can glide through albums with Cover Flow, flick through photos and enlarge them with a pinch, zoom in and out on a section of a web page, and control game elements precisely.
How it Works
The Multi-Touch display layers a protective shield over a capacitive panel that senses your touch using electrical fields. It then transmits that information to the LCD screen below it. iPod touch software enables the flick, tap, and pinch.
Type with the Touchscreen Keyboard
iPod touch features an intelligent touchscreen keyboard perfect for browsing the web in Safari, getting directions on a map, searching for videos on YouTube, finding music on the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, or adding new contacts. It analyzes keystrokes to sest words as you type and correct spelling errors automatically. And because it's software based, it changes its keys to support typing in multiple languages.
iPod touch locates nearby wireless hotspots, including protected networks.

iPod touch responds to motion using a built-in accelerometer.
Responds to Movement
iPod touch detects when you rotate it from portrait to landscape, then automatically changes the contents of the display. So you immediately see the entire width of a web page, view a photo in its proper aspect ratio, or control a game using only your movements.
How it Works
The accelerometer inside iPod touch uses three elements: a silicon mass, a set of silicon springs, and an electrical current. The silicon springs measure the position of the silicon mass using the electrical current. Rotating iPod touch causes a fluctuation in the electrical current passing through the silicon springs. The accelerometer registers these fluctuations and tells iPod touch to adjust the display accordingly.
Perfect for Gaming
Accelerometer technology really shines when you play games because it immerses you in the action. It's perfect for racing games--where your entire iPod touch acts as a steering wheel--and for tap-and-tilt games like Super Monkey Ball, in which your character responds to your every movement.

Connect iPod touch to the Internet anywhere there's a wireless network.
Connect Automatically
iPod touch locates nearby wireless hotspots, including protected networks. If you've never used a particular network, it asks you to enter a password the first time, and it remembers the password from then on. So the next time you're within range, it connects automatically.
Surf's Up
Now you can send email from a coffee shop. Surf the web at the airport. Shop for games from your couch. Browse, buy, and download music from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store at select Starbucks locations or other wireless hotspots in your area.

Placards for Protest

Placards for Protest

Placards in Tamil .

A protest was organised by Free Media Movement (FMM), Sri Lanka Tamil Media Alliance (SLTMA), Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum (SLMMF), Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association (SLWJA), Federation of Media Employees Trade Union (SLMETU),Media Movement for Democracy (MMD) and South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA).Nearly 47 journalists from Colombo traveled to Jaffna by A9 highway to show solidarity. They condemned the brutal assault by protesting in front of the Sri Lanka Transport Board bus stand in Jaffna on 16th of August 2011. It was a rare protest for the Peninsula people to witness. “?????? ????????????” ~ “Is there any problem?”, “???? ??????????” ~ “What is the problem?”, “????? ???? ?????????” ~ “What is happening here?” a few onlookers, passers ~ by and shop keepers asked me while the protest was getting underway on a balmy day in Jaffna. “????? ??????? ???? ????????? ~ “What is actually happening here” asked the owner of a newly built restaurant, while I was running to the restaurant roof top to capture the moments on my camera.

There was chaos as the protesters arrived in Jaffna town with placards in Tamil. Police in the vicinity came closer and asked them not to block the traffic. Verbal argument took place between the Police and the protesters. But the protesters kept chanting and walking. The traffic came to a standstill for a couple of moments, as the protesters took the space on the mot busiest road in Jaffna, the Hospital road while carrying the placards in Tamil ~ “????????? ?????????????????? ???? ???????????” ~ “Who is responsible for the lives of the journalists in Jaffna?”, “??? ?????????? ????????????? ????????” ~ “Media freedom needs to be protected”, “????? ???????? ??????????????? ??????????????” ~ “When will the suppression come to an end in Jaffna?”, “??? ?????????????? ????????? ????????????” ~ Let’s unite to protect media freedom”, “???????????? ??????? ??? ????????? ??????? ??????”~ Assault on Kuganathan is an assault on the Truth, “????????????? ?????? ???????????? ?????????” ~ Eradicate Suppression Against the Media” “????????? ????? ????????? ???? ????????” ~ “Stop Attacking the Media Immediately”, “???????????? ????? ?????????” ~ “Don’t Suppress the voice of Democracy”, “????????? ??????????? ????????? ?????????????” ~ “Did they split the head those who lost the elections?”
The protesters chanted “Let Us Write”,“Continue; Continue; Continue to Write”,“Do Not Kill; Do Not Kill; Do Not Kill Us; Do Not Kill the Journalists, Do Not Kill the Democracy”,“Uthyan was attacked, but nobody was arrested”, “Bring the culprit to the courts”“Do Not Attack; Do Not Attack; Do Not Attack the Media”, “Take Your Hands Off Media”“Stop; Stop; Stop the Suppression” “Kuganathan; Kuganthan who wrote the plight of the people”, “Kuganathan was attacked with Iron rods”,“Kuganathan; Kuganathan; Keep Writing, “Lift the Emergency Immediately” in Tamil and Sinhala. There were nearly 350 journalists, activists and politicians participated in the protest according to the organisers.

The crying elephant

The crying elephant

When I first saw this elephant I thought it was a statue! He was standing head high and with one leg bent looking too much like the epiphany of an alpha male elephant. Although he did stay still most of the time it most certainly wasn’t a statue but indeed a living breathing elephant. The tusks curving in towards each other at the end makes him look almost like a Mammoth from the Ice age, and the beautiful ears and coloring, what an incredible example of nature’s strength. But there was something about him that didn’t quite seem right and after we spoke to the boy who cared for him we found out that he’d almost been killed when poachers tried to take his tusks. I didn’t understand if they shot out his eyes or picked them out with knives but somehow they managed to make him blind on both eyes. There were also bullets that you could still feel with your hands as they had been trapped under his thick hide.

Since whatever they did to his eyes was non reversible there is now some sort of body fluid running out of them and it looks as if though he’s crying…

Pinnewela elephant orphanage is a government run orphanage for elephants just east of Kandy on Sri Lanka. This is an incredible place to go for viewing elephants and it’s heartwarming to see how they take care of them all. Some come there because they’ve lost their parents, others because they lost a limb by stepping on a land mine, and some like the biggest male of them all was made blind by poachers and shot while they were trying to take his tusks. All in all there are around 70 elephants at the orphanage right now.

There are basically three spots to see the elephants, two costs and one is free. If you want the freebee just stand outside of the orphanage and wait when they come back from the bathing at the river and you’ll see them walk by. If you do buy a ticket you can go inside the park and get some one on one time with them, although the keepers expect a tip for close encounters. Included in the ticket is also entrance to the river where the elephants go and bathe two twice per day. This is by far the best place to see them and the scenery is absolutely stunning! The elephants are led by a man with a megaphone making a trumpet sound and then they all rush down into the water, they seem to love getting wet and splashing themselves with their trunks : ) don’t be afraid to walk up to them and touch to experience how huge these beautiful creatures really are!

If you go to the restaurant which is on the left path down to the river you’ll have a wonderful buffet at a reasonable price with a view that will take your breath away! One of the most beautiful sceneries for a restaurant I’ve ever seen. There’s also a bunch of souvenir shops along the road but we found the prices to be high compared to the rest of the country.
