Canon AE-1

Canon AE-1

The Canon AE-1 was the world's first CPU-controlled SLR camera, having shutter-priority autoexposure or fully manual control. It was produced from 1976 to 1984 and sold over 5 million units. It uses an electromagnetically-released cloth shutter with speeds from 1/1000s to 2s plus bulb. Pictured here is probably the most common lens it was equipped with, the 50mm f/1.8 (there were a few flavours), as well as a Tokina 70-210mm f/4-5.6 (which was originally purchased on Jan. 16, 1986 at the Northtown London Drugs in Edmonton, AB)

My father-in-law gave me this camera because he thought I'd be able to get some use out of it.

Since becoming a photographer, people in my family have considered me the person to know everything about a camera (any kind, including camera phones), fix any camera, and shoot any camera... doesn't matter what type of camera it is, since I'm a photog, I should know what to do with it.

And no... I'm not a converter... hehehe! Nikon still rocks!
