051101 024 - Studying in the Corner

If studying law has taught me anything, it is that the whole discipline is very misunderstood.

Take the World Trade Organization, for example. It has at its very core the aim of promoting the accrual of wealth in developing nations. Yet for some reason, every time leaders of WTO members get together they are met with throngs of protestors claiming that "globalization" is a huge and elaborate trick to keep the developing nations down.

In fact, decreasing trade barriers between countries is one of, if not the key factor in the recent prosperity seen by China and India. And India is one of the world's poorest countries per capita.

The only people that globalization is bad for are overpaid workers in countries ruled by protectionist governments. Those are countries like the USA and Canada, and much of Europe.
