Boxwood Roping & Dried Floral Wreath
Christmas 1987, Ohio
Entrance Door from Breezeway to side hall between kitchen and garage, decorated with live boxwood roping, trimmed with small artificial lacquered fruits including apples, small red, silver, and gold glass balls. The wreath I bought in 1980-1982, not sure, but during those days it was very easy to find dried floral material. I haven't seen as much of this sort of thing in a long time.

Sunday, May 8, 2011 - Happy Mother's Day.
Today I worked, like every Sunday, which is where I got these cookies. A family member brought a cookie bouquet for one of the nursing stations and I took two.
That is one of the few GOOD things about where i work, there is always food. I also got some See's Candies from another station, but the calories don't count because they're not in the picture.

Ingredient: green tea 78%, Globe amaranth flower 22%
This finely picked blooming tea ball has been masterfully tied together by hand and lightly dried shortly after cultivation. Once the blooming flower tea ball is steeped in near-boiling water it blooms like a real flower. It unfolds into a high-rising of globe amaranth sitting on a tray of green tea leaves. The combination of the flowers' captivating scent and the fresh tea leaves produces a wonderful and balanced aroma. Green tea is an excellent anti oxidant and the globe amaranth is a perfect liver cleanser, great for skin conditions, is said to improve vision and is great fighting headaches !
Preparation Methods:1. Put one blooming flower tea balls into a glass.
2. Pour into glass 150ml 85°C water.
3. Brew for 3-5 minutes until the blooming flower tea ball sink down and fully unfold. The blooming flower tea do not get bitter as fast as regular tea, so it is safe to add time to the steeping.
4. Amaranth blooming flower tea stands up to three to four brewing.
Flavour : Mellow, floral.
Blooming tea
This represents both of our first experiences with blooming tea. Do you know what it is? It's tea leaves and a flower that are rolled up by hand and made into a tiny, tight ball. You put it in a pot, pour some boiling water over it, and it begins to immediately unfurl. Within a minute or two, you have this large sort of plant in your teapot. It's really awesome. And then you drink it!

'And We Learn As We Age' These are my tattoos together! :D I love them they are lovely and crisp and so clean. The compass represents my mummy and the time is the time my little brother was born. And the cherry blossom also represents both of them because Cherry is my mums name and my brothers birthday is when it all blossoms, the flowers themselves represent people in my family, petals being the people who have passed away. So very meaningful tattoos! :D

The Private Public Protest, (politicising the neighbourhood), Bensham, Gateshead
Here's a fantastic example of micro politics in action. This resident of Bensham lives in a listed heritage area and broke planning regulations by adding to his property without prior planning consent. Passerbys informed me that the home owner politicised his house nine months ago and that the contestation between the home owner and Gateshead Council rages on. According to the passerbys the planning department felt the banners broke regulations and made the home owner take a poster above the doorway down. The rest remain...the home owner obvioulsy favours his war political voice above natural daylight!
This case study could be used to discuss many geographical issues such as agency, resistence, local politics, democracy, territorialism, ownership, forms of private public protest, and the public/private domain.
Other statements on the property include the message:
'SURPRISE SURPRISE THIS LOT WANT OUR VOTES THIS HOUSE IS DETREMENTAL TO THE AREA' and 'THANK YOU NOT SURPRIZING TO HAVE MORE LOCAL SUPPORT THAN ELECTED COUNCILLORS, THE 3 BUFFOONS can't see, won't see, don't speak YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL'.
This photo shows how flowers have been used to gain extra visual impact, and a touch of the paranioa / eccentricity creeps in with the 'close circuit television' window sticker.
Flower Power
I notice that quite a few flickr members have been visiting the town of Glastonbury recently, such as Spencer_D & StarPixie (yesterday) and Dichohecho (earlier this month), so I thought that it's about time I gave it a quick visit as I have not been here for some time, apart from passing through via the bypass.
Glastonbury is famous for its hippy flower power culture and has a large number of very eccentric residents which makes this a very good place to photograph interesting looking people. As I tend to shoot things rather than people I tried to find something that epitomised the character of Glastonbury and parked up just behind the Rainbows End Cafe was this classic icon of 60's flower power.
As well as the colourful flowers, it was plastered with window stickers - Save the Whale, CND, Greenpeace, Friends of The Earth....you name it they had it!
This shot was taken near the end of my visit, as the sky had got very black and it was threatening to rain at any minute, and I was down to f/4 at this stage in order to get enough light into the camera. A few minutes later it had started pouring with rain.

They fascinated me because I have never see dried flowers like that on the bush. It reminded me of pompeii and how from that day images were in some way preserved as a visual reminder of what happend.,

My great grandmother pressed these mountain flowers when she was young. They are amazingly soft and beautiful but I have no idea how to preserve what is left of them. Any ideas?
They are on the same black velvety board they came on (afraid to take them off) and I keep them out of the light. I know they can't last forever...

The flower girl dress from Weekend Sewing is 95% finished except for the bottom hem and buttonholes on the straps. The dress was SO easy to make. The instructions were very clear. I adjusted the bodice width for a better fit and the buttons will go on the front straps. The book is beautiful and I hope to make many more of the projects.

Happy 2nd Birthday my little Emily!
My little darling girl Emily is TWO years old! Can't believe how time flies. Here is a magical flower fairies picnic cupcake tower for my baby.
The little fairy in hot pink is my baby! She has a hot pink party dress and always wears a blue hat, so the little fairy definitely needs to be in hot pink petals and wears a blue flower hat. I also have a photo of my little girl in hot pink sweater and blue hat sitting on a tree stump and thought that it is sooo cute, so I have placed the fairy sitting on a twig stump hehe (in fairy size).
The picnic has been inspired by Bella Cupcakes's teddy bear picnic cake. Thank you Vanessa. The cherry pie was loads of fun to make.
My little girl also has a toy pink polka dots tea set, so I have made it to look like her tea set except for the teapot's cover which I thought it would be fun to have a flower as the cover.
She absolutely loves her cupcake tower and she knows that she is the one in hot pink in the middle...she kept saying 'Emily fairy' pointing at it and says that daddy is the bee... hehe so cute.

Spring Flower – Peridot & Prehnite Sterling Silver Double Petal Wire Flower Necklace (KS45)
The centrepiece of this beautiful spring themed necklace is a double petal flower pendant made from bright silver wire which I have shaped, hammered, sanded and polished to a brilliant shine (adapted from my WIRE FLOWERS tutorial). The flower has an apple green peridot micro-faceted rondelle bead secured in the centre with delicate green prehnite micro-faceted rondelles wrapped and coiled around the central bead.
The necklace is formed from links either side of the flower made from further beads of peridot and prehnite attached to links of sterling silver anchor chain. At the back of the necklace, I have added an extension chain finished off with a prehnite bead dangle.

Dahlias
This inviting bouquet of dahlias was at the entrance of the dahlia show and competition at the yearly San Francisco Dahlia Show. To me they were all winners, such a beautiful display of flowers I had never seen before. There were 150 competitors and as I watched the judging, it was serious business. I don’t think there is another group of flowers that has such variety of colors, shapes plus sizes as the dahlia; they were from the size of a nickel to a dinner plate. Photographing was not as easy as it is in their natural habitat, as white table cloths are not my preferred background. Since I never replace any of my backgrounds with a second hand substitute, in other words, what I see in my view finder is what I show. So I was more or less forced to do close ups without a background, still got a lot of nice images. BTW. Dahlia is the official flower of San Francisco, has been since 1924.
Bouquet - Red-Purple
This is the first bouquet I've been able to build around Dahlia 'Mystery Day' that seems to work. Also in this bouquet: Dahlia 'Sean C' (pink with white ruffles), Dahlia 'Joycie,' and larkspur. The background foliage is Heuchera 'Plum Pudding' and Teucrium scorodonia 'Crispum.'
