i get together with friends to watch football on sunday...I was born and raised in south-western PA and will always be a hard-core Steeler's fan. I live in Indianapolis and most of my friends are Colt's fans. There is some playful banter at this point in the season and we are all big enough football fans to appreciate eachother's teams at this point...this is me and my friend misty playing around last Sunday. The bottom picture makes me laugh so hard we could barely keep a straight face...these were supposed to be our serious fight faces. This is how we'll look in November when the Colts travel to Pittsburgh to get their asses kicked...that's right I said it :P

NYC - Cartier 2008 Holiday Bow

Cartier wraps itself in a spectacular lighting scheme for the holiday season. Two pieces of red ribbon wrapping the entire building meet at a 14 foot wide LED bow, while two giant LED tiaras, each measuring 5-feet by 16-feet, sit above the two public entrances on 5th Avenue and 52nd Street. Designed by the London-based Metropolis Group of Companies, the display uses over 17,000 LEDs, including 2,340 red Luxeon LEDs from Lumileds in the ribbon, and 1000 white Luxeons in each tiara, with the remainder being a mixture of red and white 5mm LEDs from Plus Opto. The tiaras, each featuring 19 large "diamonds" fabricated from multi-faceted acrylic layers, are modeled on the famous authentic Cartier tiaras.

The Cartier Building, at 651 Fifth Avenue, stands in one of the last remaining mansion in midtown and the only of a complex of six residences. The former Morton F. Plant townhouse and the adjacent Edward and Frances Holbrook House, erected in 1905 by architects Robert W. Gibson and C.P.H. Plant grew to disdain the rapid commercial redevelopment of the neighbrohood, and when he chose to move uptown arranged an agreement between and Cartier's, which reportedly exchanged a valuable pearl necklace for the property.

The six-story, marble and granite, neo-Italian Renaissance-style palazzo underwent relatively few modifications for commercial use--adding an entrance and a sculpted clock on Fifth Avenue, as well as storefront windows designed to fit in with the original facing. At the Christmas holiday season, Cartier wraps the building in a large, red bow-tied ribbon.

Cartier, a reknown jeweler and watchmaker, was founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier and is currently a subsidiary of Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA. His son Pierre Cartier established the New York branch in 1909. In 1904, they crafted the first practical wristwatch, the Santos, and were celebrated for the infamous ""Bestiary," best illustrated by the famous Panthere brooch of the 1940s created for Wallis Simpson. Other Cartier innovations include the legendary mystery clock and exotic orientalist Art Deco designs, including the daringly colourful "Tutti Frutti" jewels.

01 Cracker Trail Cattle Drive, WHOLE

* Cracker Trail drives traveled just north of Lake Placid on what is now Route 98
* Cattle were lean and would lose 200 to 300 pounds on a drive
* Registered brands you see on the cattle all belong to Highlands County cattlemen

Listen to the yips, moos and thunder as the Cowmen drive a herd of cattle through the Lake Placid area on their way to market. It was a two to three week trip and full of danger. Only the strongest would survive. Storms took their toll on cowmen as well as the cattle. They feared these storms because, not only could it stampede a herd, but also the lightening could kill. Often these cattle were driven to a deep-water port, and shipped to Cuba where cattlemen received gold. The cattle were lean, as it was not uncommon for them to lose 200 to 300 pounds during the drive. At that time there were no roads across the state and it was just a trail. The life of the Florida cowmen was not easy as they battled the heat, insects and storms.

The name "cracker" comes from the cracking of the whips the cowmen carried to keep the herd together. The registered brands you see all belong to Highlands County cattlemen. Highlands County ranks high in the production of beef cattle in the eastern United States.

Our New New Year's Tradition

Here is the view from our campsite on the living room floor. We are watching a My Little Pony DVD though it has mysteriously disappeared from the screen. P is using her brand new sleeping bag (a Christmas gift from us), G is on the couch and I'm on the gym mat with my pillow and the dune. Dune is Norwegian for down comforter. Like bussimon for snot and poompie for butt it is one of our Norwegian family words. Please excuse my spelling on them because I have no idea!

G found molten chocolate cakes at the supermarket for us, P had fruit snacks and had to brush her teeth twice but I think everyone enjoyed themselves. We didn't make it to the ball drop. I have a cold and had to take Nyquil. We'll just have to put off drinking that bottle of champagne (Veuve Cliquot!) again.

Real vs. Copy

The Invicta 2248 on the right was my first automatic watch. It was cool because it looked like a Omega Seamaster -- it was a weird mash-up of an Omega Seamaster (blue color, scalloped bezel, background) with a Rolex Submariner (hands, markers, bracelet, size, magnification lens). Now, it just looks cheesy next to the real deal.

Some of my recent film purchases...most of this was from a job lot from ebay, all the kodak rolls are expired.

The 35mm is for keeps - not shot any Kodak Ektachrome before (there's some E100VS, E100GX, E100S and E100G in there - looking forward to seeing how differently they xpro). Worked out at around ?1.50 a roll, should get that down if I manage to sell some of the other rolls....

...like the Polaroid films - they are no use to me so so they are going back onto ebay tonight.

The 120 film is more than I'll ever shoot with my Holga, especially as my home scanner will only do 35mm negs. So far I've only shot 2 rolls of 120, so suddenly having 60+ rolls is a bit overkill. So I might sell some, or trade it for 35mm, or investigate a cheap medium format camera and scanner combo. Any suggestions / offers?

Passing Through Time Together Vintage Style Watch Pendant

Isn't this watch beautiful? It takes you back through time with it's filigree casing and bold and beautiful watch face. I added a wonderful cornflower blue polymer clay rose, mounted on antiqued bronze filigree and wire wrapped a gorgeous opalescent faceted teardrop and hung both these charms from antiqued bronze chains. The piece is tied together with 29 inches of antique bronze chain with an antiqued bronze lobster claw closure.

Putting this piece together made me think about the rare and wonderful people in my life that from the moment you meet them, it's like you have known them forever...like you have been Passing Through Time Together!

Ooh ooh ooh Ronaldinio

Another photo (this one of kid and dad) reminded me of another wee story in
Munich as we sat in the Lowenbrau brewery watching all the days games on the
big screen. On our table, we happened to be sitting beside an italian man
and his wee son who couldn?t be more than 11 or 12. They both could speak
very little english but still got into the world cup spirit (football is the
international language etc etc cliche cliche) and entered into the banter.

The boy had an exercise book in which he was drawing the flags of each
country involved then he was asking fans from each country to sign his book
besides their flag. Very sweet he was and both myself and king tut duly
signed beside his very artistic St Georges Cross.

Anyroads, his dad went off to get some food and left the boy with us. Every
few minutes he would utter a few words to me in English. ?Michael Owen. Very
good? ... ?Totti. Champion? . He was trying to get involved and fair play to
him. Then during the game Ronaldinio made a move and the commentator made a
comment on the play. The boy tapped me and said ?Ronaldinio ... Monkey?.
Myself and Tut just sat there shocked. Then he got into that zone that kids
do sometimes (especially only kids) when they start talking to themselves
muttering under their breath. He muttered in italian but every 10th word or
so was in english Ronaldinhio ...Monkey .... Ths went on for like 3 or 4
minutes ....

Myself and tut just sat there not quite knowing what to do. His dad came
back with plates full of tucker for him and his wee saintly boy and we were
wondering whether or not to say anything to him ... But decided against it
for some reason. I think the language barrier would have proven to be a wee
too much in the 90 degree heat and after 5 huge glasses (litres) of
kronenborg.

But thoughts .... We both accept the kid had no malace and wasn?t a neo nazi
parading as michael j fox ... But think about it, no wonder there are
problems in Italian and Spanish football if normal, well bought up middle
class kids like this grow up thinking that calling a black player a monkey
is normal sport for a Saturday afternoon ....

Day 150/365 - Who Watches the Watchmen?... Me, that's Who

Today I went to a matinee showing of the new movie 'Watchmen' with my friend Chris. We decided to see it at the Uptown where they have a really big screen and we opted to try our luck with the 12:15 showing, figuring it would be less crowded. We were right on that score. The theater was only about two-thirds full and we were able to snag prime seats in the balcony. As we left we noticed that there were already people in line for the next showing, even though it was still more than an hour away.

'Watchmen' has gotten some bad reviews, but Chris and I both liked it. I read the graphic novel back when I was in high school and I had forgotten most of it. Basically all I could remember was who the bad guy actually was, and that Dr. Manhattan was kind of an ass. I think they did a good job of adapting it for the big screen. They devoted a fair amount of time to developing the story and the characters and it wasn't just stunts and fights, although it was a fairly brutal movie in parts.

Visually speaking it was very well done and it avoided looking fakey. The performances were mixed. The actor portraying Nite Owl did the best job with his role, and he's really the only completely likeable character. The other characters you can like, but with some reservations. The rest of the cast was so-so. The actor playing Rohrschach was quite good, but his character is pretty one-dimensional. Homicidal sociopaths tend to be like that.

All things considered it was a pretty good movie. It does a good job of taking a look at the dark side of being a superhero and the costs that lifestyle carries with it. The movie is rather hard on women, though. There are only two female characters and they flip between being vixens or victims, plus there is a vicious attempted rape scene that was tough to watch. Also, I could do quite nicely with a little less screen time for Dr. Manhattan's swinging and swaying blue male member. Would it have killed him to wear pants a bit more often?

If you’re tired of the same overpaid Botox victims trotting out all-too-familiar plot Lines, then prolific ‘machinimatographer’ Chantal Harvey may be your cinematic salvation.

The Dutch director’s third Ma Machinima International Film Festival promises 60 original, fun, touching, sometimes plain weird and, occasionally, mindblowing short films that defy the usual rules of storytelling.
Machinima, you see, is the art of making movies using 3D online virtual worlds and video games (such as Second Life, World of Warcraft or even Google Earth) where, unhampered by such pesky factors as reality, the laws of physics or an actor’s range, filmmakers can unleash their creativity with no bounds other than their own imaginations.

Harvey (after whose nickname in the community, ‘mama-chinima’, the festival is named) claims she refuses to limit herself to one genre of machinima ‘because the medium offers so much freedom to filmmakers’.

Clearly, most of them got the memo – including Lainy Voom, whose bird-headed characters drink coffee with a spoonfull of eyeballs, and Tom Jantol, whose rendering of Pinocchio as a disolated doll with lipstick and nipples curiously takes nothing away from the film’s grace and sensitivity.
Because it’s inherently inexpensive to produce but rich in possibilities, machinimatography appeals to experimental and emerging filmmakers in particular.

That said, some open-minded old-timers have also jumped on the machinima bandwagon, such as Peter Greenaway (‘The Pillow Book’) who is presenting his ‘Big Bang’at the Festival. A poetic ode to all existence, parts of his film eschews human beings in favor of computer-generated avatars, some of whom boast such realistic facial expressions that Pixar’s best illustrators might want to watch their backs.

The event, which will happen in ‘real life’ at Club Karlsson, a private club and self-avowed ‘counter cultural’ space in the Western Canal Belt, will also be streamed live online and in Second Life, where hundreds more visitors and their avatars are expected at the lavish virtual theater ‘built’ especially for the occasion. Club Karlsson guests are welcome to bring their laptops to follow the online part of the event – WI FI and the requisite cables will be provided.

Both real life and virtual virtual parties reflect the important social aspect of Machinima: ‘The festival is not a competition; there are no awards, no contests; it’s just about sharing’, says Harvey.

In this spirit, newbies can try their hands at the ‘Machinima for Dummies’ workshop at Club Carlsson on June 17, creating a short film that will be screened at the opening of the festival.

With twice as many filmmakers and twice as many real life guests as last year, the trend is clearly growing. ‘We ‘ll have drinks, food, a lot of socialising and maybe even sex,’ says producer Ze Moo. No wonder machinima is gaining speed.

Houdini the Goat & Royal the Arabian Horse Fight Over Blue Bucket of Oats

I saw some objects which turned out later to be feet and shoes on grass, on the "Snap Game" (pool) and had no idea if they were rocks and pebbles, or cell phones or what, but thumbnail sketch made me think of this picture. So I posted it really quickly. If someone gets in between you and the entry you are trying to transition with, it can look pretty silly hanging out there by itself. You know how when you park your vehicle crookedly so you will be parallel to everyone else who parked crookedly? All is well until you go to leave and discover everyone else went home from the party, and just YOUR car is sitting out in the parking lot looking ridiculous. In the Snap Game, you don't necessarily have to know what something is to match it up by similarity, color or shape. It is a photographic version of the children's game. It is a lot of fun.

Anyway, this picture makes a good transition, and I think it has a tiny story to it.

It addresses "My Life As" a woman who once had a small farm, with lots of pets. This was the main pasture. We had about 7 pastures, and a name for most of them. One was the Chevy Barn Pasture, one was the Baseball Field Pasture, due to the diamond sort of shape and size, the Holly Pasture, due to about 30 gorgeous holly trees, and so on.

When I first got the horse here in the picture, I had been previously hurt quite badly being bucked off of another horse 3 times. I was a little gun shy. So I made kind of a big oval and confined my activity to just riding him around the oval and maybe in and out of a few Blue Spruce and Douglas Fir on the edge of the oval. I did this until my confidence came back and he and I had worn a path. That pasture was called the Racetrack Pasture. By naming the pastures, it was easier to communicate to my then husband (now ex) or children, just where I was talking about.

Royal is an Arabian Chestnut Gelding. He has 2 white socks and a white blaze. It may be called a snip instead of a blaze; I'm not sure. It is definitely long and there, but not super wide.

Houdini was a pretty big 55 or 65 pound goat, and he could get in or out of almost anything, including rope, chain, bicycle cables, padlocks, ties, clips, hence his name.

I think Royal was being pretty nice to let Houdini hog the whole bucket. Royal was a gentleman most of the time.

Some of the animals, but not these two, came with the house and acreage when we bought it. I'm sure there is at least one more little story there that I will be putting with other pictures as we go along. ~Delina

Soooo. MY BESTIE IS STAYING WITH ME FOR A WEEK! I'm super excited she will probs go to the game with me on friday and stay with me for a week after that. Her mom is going out of town late friday night. SO YAY!

Today in school I had to watch an autopsy as part of my forensics class. I really like forensics but seeing someone's body destroyed that way was truly haunting. I hope that when I die an autopsy won't be necessary. It makes me want to discontinue being an organ donor. Not only was it the most disgusting thing ive ever witnessed but it seemed demeaning. < dont know how to spell that and too tired to look it up.
It wasn't all that gross, but they cut open your torso and examine all of your organs and cut into any tumors or systs you might have and some are filled with puss. They look at colors and shapes and bruises on your body and insides. Then lastly, and most disturbingly (its a word i swear! haha) they scalp you and break open your skull, and basically split it in half, the sound effects are the worst part of this. They take out your brain and examine that too.
Its all very nasty, everytime I eat or drink I think about it. Well, this is the best diet ever hahaha.

Teachers on strike, a boy in black diamond drowned :( they haven't released his name but I have this awful feeling that I know him, they have game of the week nominees, I remember when we were on that segment last year, we aren't nominated for this week, Obama doesn't have the majority of poll votes anymore he's behind by about 4 percent, a man stole and crashed the only ambulance in Bucoda hahaha.
I don't know I'm just into the news today haha.
