Versailles - Château de Versailles - Salle de 1830

The Arrival of the Duke d'Orleans at the place de l'Hotel de Ville, 31 July 1830 by Charles-Philippe Lariviere.

Salle de 1830 (The 1830 Room) is devoted to the national reconciliation and the events which brought king Louis-Philippe to the throne in July 1830. The French Revolution of 1830, also known as the July Revolution, or Three Glorious Days, saw the overthrow of King Charles X, the French Bourbon monarch, and the ascension of his cousin Louis-Philippe, the Duc d'Orleans. It marked the shift from one constitutional monarchy, the Bourbon Restoration, to another, the July Monarchy, and the transition of power from the House of Bourbon to its cadet branch, the House of Orleans, and the substitution of the principle of popular sovereignty for hereditary right. Supporters of the Bourbon would be called Legitimists, and supporters of Louis-Philippe Orleanists.

Hotel du Cheval Rouge

Hotel du Cheval Rouge

Looking back at the small hotel we stayed in - the Hotel Du Cheval Rouge (The Red Horse Hotel) has quite a history - in that it used to be the stables for the King of France's horses - thankfully the hay has been replaced by a comfy matress these days - basic accomodation - but spotlessly clean and fantastic central location
