Devra Lee Davis, Ph.D. (left) and David Steinman (right), author of "Safe Trip to Eden" Steinman (right) said parents should be outraged that companies are willing to spend a significant amount of money on entertainment licensing agreements that entice children but won’t spend pennies to remove contaminants such as 1,4-Dioxane. “Consumers who have young children, as I do, have the right to expect the highest purity in children’s products,” Steinman said in a press release. “I call on American consumers to say no to dangerous petrochemicals in their children’s cosmetic and personal care products.” Devra Lee Davis (left), professor of epidemiology and director of the Center for Environmental Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, said that the usual regulatory approach of assessing risk one chemical at a time does not account for the combined effects of very low levels of hidden contaminants in personal care products and from other sources. “We must lower exposures to controllable agents that we know or suspect cause cancer." Red Rose Girl Hello and welcome So I had this idea about a photo I saw in 2006 and made a design using PS and still have it, and about two weeks ago I looked at it and said to myself why not do the same photo! So I brought my favorite model Anwar and bought a red rose for this photo! Set up the light in a way to bring out the mood so the viewer can feel it from her expression and the beautiful red rose. Make up: My Sister (thank you very much!) Model: Anwar Everything else: me =] Regards to you all () Geisha Today, with my faithful best friend, I took this serie of photo. The idea born by my lovely Greta, she's surname is GIANNONE and in Italy Japan is GIAPPONE. We've played on the similar sound of those two words. We spent, as ever, a very special day. I hope that you like OUR work!! The hair style, the make-up and the photo are made by me. I know, it isn't the 5D's quality, but my dear is on repair, to cleaning the sensor. ...And Very Best Wishes to Japan. Iraq's Christians About the Model This is my 23 years old relative Athraa. The name ‘Athraa’ in Arabic means ‘Virgin’. It’s a loved name in Iraq because purity is considered a virtue and not something to be ashamed of—I agree with this not only because I am from the Middle East but also because I am Christian. It is a common name among Iraq’s Christians because the term ‘Al-Athraa’ (The Virgin) is used as a quick referral to the Virgin Mary. Even though it looks like we played together when we were children, I had absolutely no idea her family even existed! It wasn’t until two years ago when Athraa and her family immigrated to Michigan, USA, that I heard about them. She is related to me from my mom’s family and my mom and hers were close friends as teenagers. I’ve talked to Athraa a couple of times on the phone so when my family and hers decided to go to Niagara Falls last weekend I decided to take her photo...and I had something in mind! So I started looking for a green scarf and thank God, my sister had one. She laughed at the idea of the green scarf saying, “I’ve never worn a scarf in my life and now when I come to North America you want me to wear one!” Then I asked Athraa to put Arabic eye make-up on when she came to the trip. She was looking forward to the photo shoot, which is always encouraging to the photographer. The first thing you notice about Athraa is the way she talks. She speaks with such passion that all of her face’s features try to convey the message she wants to get across, and she starts signing with her hands, and her heads moves depending on the intensity of the topic! It is so cute, and everyone who meets her tells her that they love the way she speaks—she is very lovable. She also has a very beautiful voice when she sings. She sang a traditional Iraqi song and I was very surprised by how beautiful her voice was, even though my aunt had told me that Athraa has a beautiful voice. About Iraq’s Christians I would like to talk about this because there are so many misconceptions about who are Iraq’s Christians. People usually think that there are no Christians in Iraq. For example, in high school I had an English teacher who asked me year after year if I was fasting in Ramadan (the fasting month in Islam) and I would tell him that I was a Christian. But he kept asking me that question the next year! People simply forget that Christianity originated in the Middle East, and that the total area of Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq is smaller than Ontario (so it wasn’t that difficult, geographically, to spread Christianity)! About a decade ago Christians used to make 2-3% of Iraq’s population, now I am guessing there are even less especially after the 2003 war. Iraq’s Christians are from four major ethnical groups: Chaldeans, Assyrians, Syriac people, and Armenians. Armenians fled to Iraq in WWI when Turkey was killing Armenia’s Christians under the Ottoman Empire; even Christians, especially Assyrians, in north Iraq were victims of the genocide. Nowadays many of Iraq’s Christians have permanently settled in other countries like Canada (especially Windsor, Ontario), USA (especially in Detroit, Michigan), Germany, England, Sweden, Spain, New Zealand, and Australia. Here I am just going to talk about Chaldeans because my family, and so is Athraa’s, are Chaldeans. Chaldeans are the native dwellers of what was known as Chaldea, and what is known today as Iraq. I don’t know if they came from somewhere else and settled in Iraq or they have always been there! The Bible says in Genesis 11:28, “While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth”, and it says in Nehemiah 9:7, "You are the LORD God, who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham." (Ur is a historic city in Iraq.) When asked I just say I am from the Middle East, because it is so much easier than saying I am a Chaldean and then I get a blank stare back! And if someone assumes I am an Arab I don't correct them, unless they ask; to me it doesn't matter what my ethnicity is because the only thing that really matters is who I am through Christ. As you have guessed by now being a Chaldean is not a religion or a faith but it is an ethnicity. However, traditionally (and by birth) Chaldeans are Christian; just like saying an Israelite is Jewish by birth, or a Russian is Orthodox Christian by birth. Most Chaldeans in Iraq are Roman Catholics. However, a lot of Iraq’s Christians, like me, have abandoned the Roman Catholic church and embraced other denominations that are non-traditional and teach salvation is through God’s grace only. I personally don’t belong to any denomination, but if I had to choose one then I would probably choose Baptists. The mother language of Chaldeans is Aramaic; however, present day Chaldeans speak a modern version of the old Aramaic language. Aramaic was the business language of the Middle East in Bibli 128/365: i try I wanted to put something shiny and happy today for my flickr friends as I'm mostly complaining in the last days. So I put on some make-up and stuff, but i couldn't manage a smile... sorry I feel better today, as I woke up with the sound of rain tapping on my window. I just love rain as I mentioned like 100 times before. I had coffee which was delicious and I told about how I felt to a certain someone yesterday and got some good feedback and positive energy. It's not a big deal, but sometimes I get sick and tired of being strong. I am a rational person and I expect the same thing from the others and everyone is not me. Maybe, it's time I accept the fact that everything can't be in its right place at all times. Random Fact: thanks for your concern about my depressed state, but I won't use prozac or similar stuff even the world collapses on me. That's not my way of handling things. Random Fact II: I designed and made those earrings :) See also: the best natural makeup borghese cosmetics benefits cosmetic french make up companies lady gaga makeup tutorial makeup perfecting lipstick id bare minerals makeup iman make up products mark makeup lr cosmetics |

Four - Giraffe This week's been pretty good I guess. My Body photographs were appreciated by my project leader and my classmates, so I was happy that my first University project went well. So I was over the moon! At the weekend I went to York with my friends and that's where I bought this ridiculously lovely hat :) I really wanted a Penguin one, but I had to go with my second favourite animal because there was no more Penguin. This trip to York awoke my childness-ness! I was just able to be silly again with people I felt really comfortable with. I guess that's what I wanted this image to represent. Immaturity. There is a bit of wildness in all of us, hence the reason I decided not to wear a top, the sight of skin to me represents naturalness. Plus is makes the image look more neutral and takes away any extraneous distractions. I've always been really interested in the idea of Evolution and how we all still have natural instincts which drive our actions - no matter how much everyone believes in free-will. To me, there is always a rational/scientific explanation of why we do what we do. Fact #4 - My favourite animal is a Penguin. Taken on 7th Nov 2010 [075-365] Au naturel? If men only knew how much make up goes into the natural look.... I got these brushes in the mail today...they are part of an antibacterial brush set from sephora :) i'm excited to start using them...they feel so soft! Proof! I combed my hair (even used a blow dryer) and did my own makeup.I go for the minimum. A little blush to add color and powder to minimize shininess. Even in the summer I'm too pale. Eyes: just a little eyeshadow and of course mascara. I don't know how to apply eyeliner. Too advanced for me. My sister would have been proud. Well, she was. I told her all about my adventures the next day over menudo (sans tripe), we both hate the chewy meat and only eat the corn. Look 3 - Urban Decay Naked This is the 3rd look that i've tried from the UD Naked Palette. I applied... 'Virgin' as highlight on brow bone, 'Sidecar' all over lids + under bottom lashline, 'Smog' in outer corners. I finished it with Beaming Bronze liquid eyeliner from AVON, and the Falsies mascara from Maybelline. Just another swatch that proves how easy it is to take 3 shades from the Naked palette to make a complete eye look, and the palette really has endless possibilities. Interview with a Ghost ((In which Amrys keeps her cool, is confused, and proves that she has bad vision)) ---------------------------- Amrys is walking from grave to grave, trying to figure out what happened to cause them to open... Kat's daughter looked Amrys over before stepping out from behind the center structure of the graveyard. A faint line almost seeming to surround her and on closer inspection, her shoes would've been going slightly the ground's grass. "Hey there. Whatcha doing here? Returning to the scene of the crime?" She wrinkled her nose at her. Amrys looks up to see a kitten standing there. She frowns, flicks her tail. "What do you mean?" Kat's daughter rolled her eyes like it was the most obvious thing in the world and let out an exasperated sigh. "Well the culprits always return to the place that they did something bad at. At least, that what's stories always say, right?" Amrys shrugs. She squints. Really need to talk to Nio about that vision test. "I don't know. I'm trying to figure out what happened here." Kat's daughter stuck her tongue out at that and plopped down on the grass, folding her skirt up. "Well isn't it obvious? Somebody blew the graves up." Amrys nods. "But who? And why?" Kat's daughter pursed her lips together in thought although it wasn't the same line of thought that Amrys was on. "Is your skin blue? I could see not shaving if that was the case, but blue fur all over just seems weird." Amrys blinks at the random question. "Yep, I'm blue all over." Kat's daughter winced a bit at that and bent down to tighten up her shoe laces. "Well that's gotta suck. Don't think makeup producers really cater to the unnatural colored skin market." Amrys tilts her head, and walks over to sit by the kitten. "Makeup?" She blinks rapidly a few tiems, and looks at the kitten. "Ugh, maybe I do need glasses." Kat's daughter giggled more than a little at, shifting around to face her. "No no. Don't take that the wrong way. I just wonder aloud. Never got the opportunity to learn how to not ask questions." She tilted her head, studing Amrys again. "You're old. When do people stop asking questions?" Amrys raises an eyebrow. "I'm only 22... well, almost 23." She looks up. "Far as I can tell, nobody stops asking questions until they're dead." Kat's daughter was quick to shake her head. "Nuh uh. At a certain point, it seems people only think the questions, but never actually ask them or search for answers. Why is that?" Amrys laughs. "I think that's called 'tact', kitten. It means you know when it's not going to get you in trouble to ask." Kat's daughter blew her hair up so she could actually see a little. "Well that's completely silly. Some questions should get you in trouble and you should ask them all the same in spite of that." Amrys shakes her head. "Sometmes you can find out other ways." Kat's daughter blinked a few times at that. "Subterfuge is not a good thing. Should be open about stuff." Amrys shakes her head. "Not necessarily. Sometimes you can ask someone else, who won't be annoyed by the question." Kat's daughter rolled her eyes at that, obviously not happy with that sort of answer. "Yeah yeah. So what's your name, oh blue one?" "Amrys." Kat's daughter practiced saying that a few times and finally ended up tilting her head to the side. "You had cruel parents. How do you spell that?" Amrys tilts her head. "Ah, em, er, ui, es, mnyakiy znak." She recites the Russian letters. She smiles. "This pda has not the letters, so I spell it A, M, R, Y, S instead." she adds Kat's daughter just about fell over from her seat, but straightened herself back out. "Hmm. Well at least you were named something. My mom didn't go and name me. Know how annoying it is to be damned and cursed and all that but still not know who you are?" Amrys raises an eyebrow. "Dunno about damned..." She trails off, confused. Kat's daughter rolled her eyes and leaned back so far that she actually disappeared into the wall of the masoleum. She reappeared with a sad knowing smile or her face. "Well you may not at least..." Amrys turns to face the kitten fully. "What..." She blinks. "I don't think bad eyes can explain that." Kat's daughter went crosseyed, making a bit of a funny face at her. "Well I suppose they could if the bad eyes somehow killed you, but that happens." Amrys shakes her head, stammering, "But you just... through..." Kat's daughter shook her head in disappointment. "Yes, I just went through it. I'm not a zombie silly. Otherwise, I would be having an extreme case of brain munchies." Amrys stares openly ((as opposed to closedly?)). "Oh.& who woulda guessed? hot pink eye shadow is pretty kick ass. this is kate getting her makeup done at sephora. she had the makeup lady go all out w/ the fun and it looked great. glittery eyeliner to boot. kate and i both tend to go pretty basic or "nothing" as far as makeup goes, so these makeovers were a fun change for us. i wish i was more patient and dedicated to wearing makeup. i honestly think it's pretty cool most of the time, but i rarely take the time to put it on. i just can't figure out how "grown up" women can do it EVERY day. seriously. and then it looks so weird when you finally see them w/o makeup, right? hopefully i'll start to take a little more time making myself look presentable...and that might help w/ shortening the single life. eh. maybe not. who knows..... Discover the Truth Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Let's take this one step at a time for these are hard sayings which are so easy to pass over but so desperately need to be taken to heart if we are to be serious in our pursuit of righteousness. First of all lets break it down a little to what this little two verse section is asking of us. ? Present your bodies as living sacrifices ? Do not be conformed to this world ? Be transformed by the renewal of your mind ? Discern what is the will of God Well that looks easy doesn't it, only four things, yet look at them, present your body as a sacrifice? What! Don't be conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind? What; that all about? Discern what is the will of God, that sounds like a tough thing to do. Before we get all dejected and move on to more comfortable terrain lets just read through it slow and steady and see what we can dig up. Present you bodies as a living sacrifice. Ouch, a sacrifice was no easy or comfortable thing to be, rather it was something destroyed for the sake of saving something else. Yet we are not called to destroy our bodies but rather to present them as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. So, regardless of exactly what that is, the end goal is spiritual worship. So we must learn how to sacrifice our bodies yet not cause them to stop living, and do that in a holy and acceptable way. Wait though, perhaps we do not fully understand the meaning of sacrifice. Think about it, if I put my best sheep on an alter of stone and cut it up, burn it up, and praise the Lord what have I done? I most certainly have sacrificed my best sheep but why? Because that sheep was not as important to me as my relationship with the Lord. I killed my best sheep to show the Lord that a right standing before Him was more important to me then keeping my best sheep. It never meant merely just burning up my sheep on stones for the sake of keeping a law or doing it because it was the "thing" to do but because I love God so much. Take that to this verse and see how it applies. Present your bodies in such a way to God as to say "I don't love myself as much as I love You Lord. My comfort, my ease, my bank account, my satisfaction, my joy, indeed all of me Lord is on a lower standing then You and my relationship with You. You mean more to me then all of these and gladly would I give each and every one up before I gave You up. 1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. That's an easy thing to say but so hard to live out. How does your life say to God that He's the most important thing to you? Take a look at the world and the things they are sacrificing themselves for. Take a look at the broken families with full bank accounts, take a look at the prisons and the thriving drug rings. Then take a look back at home, how does your life show your commitment to Christ as Supreme Lord of your life? Are you spending extra time at work or at home? Where is your free time going? Your free money? Don't assume anything, we need to begin thinking through what we're doing and why. If we're going to march under the banners of Christ and wait anxiously for our rapture into Heaven we're going to need to take a closer look at what the followers of Christ do. Many are marching to heaven, but all to many are marching in the wrong direction. This leads very nicely right into points 2 and 3 of this section. "Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind." The first thing I see by reading through this is that by default we are conformed to this world, we are worldly. That's a tough mold to break out of, yet by God's grace once we are saved, we are out and have begun a transformation. It's interesting to me that the mind is what is transformed. Its not the heart, its not the soul, its not your actions, its your mind. Why? Because that's where the mold of the world is. Its in the world, its the world that says you want to get rich and retire early, its the world that says if your not happy with the way things are, change them, change your job, change your house, your car, your wife. Life is about the here and now, enjoy it, live in it, and don't worry. This is the thinking which we need to be transformed from, the mindset that life is all about me, about my happiness, my satisfaction in the here and now. We were made with an eternal soul, a Cat nap Getting a quick nap in while her hair gets done. Nearly all the pics I took of Janelle her eyes are open, but I wanted a pic to show off her cool eye shadow. And her hair was seriously amazing, it was honestly beautifully done. You should check out some of David's pics for a better look!! Best seen in size "Large." On the top left corner of this picture, click the magnifying glass "all size" for best quality. I'm really impressed with the ISO setting, but I think once I get back to the reception pictures I'm going to be disappointed. But at least now I know with moderate lighting ISO 800 works, but in settings where people are moving around I need to figure that out. Bratz P4F Top Modelz™ (International Version)!- Semifinal 2/3- Brand Imagez This is probably the MOST COMMON challenge ever, but I've given my own touch to it. It's truly important for a model to know how to pose without hiding or changing any part of her outfit or make up, especially if she's working for a designer on a catalogue. So, this is what you have to do on this second part of the semifinal. Your model has been hired by a fashion designer and by a cosmetic brand to pose for them (together). These are the respective designers and brands assigned to each one: (if you don't know any of this brands or designers, google them please.) Revlon / Dior LostfromReality Lancome / Armani ?LydiaTheDollyNerd? Estee Lauder / Chanel Carol Parvati L’Oreal / Louis Vuitton GoneCookie M•A•C Cosmetics / Versace LIBS World Requirements 1. Editing IS necessary. 2. Her make up must be different, exotic, depending on the cosmetic brand you were assigned. The make up color must match with the product color, of course :P 3. At least one garment of her outfit must be sewn/made by you. 4. The outfit must have the same style as other outfits from the designer. 5. The picture must include the cosmetic product. 6. The picture must include the designer's name or the fashion house's name. 7. Extra dolls can be included. 8. Deadline: Sunday 1st- August. DON'T COPY MY CHALLENGE IDEAS PLEASE. Ugh, I hate when people do it... It actually shows they aren't original AT ALL. Good luck, guys :))) Samples - March 6 (65/365) I have 2 little rants today. 1. The prices of cosmetics in Australia are insane. I've been looking at Estee Lauder tinted moisturiser and it's $80 for a little 50ml tube here. It's $43 in the US. My new fave Revlon Just Bitten lipstain is $27 here...$8.99US. And my Bare Minerals are $79 here...$25US. Our dollars are pretty much par so how is this happening? Grrrr. (No wonder I buy everything on eBay.) 2. In order to get me to spend $80 or even $43 on anything, I have to try it. Not on the back of my hand in the shop. I need a real sample I can take with me and try in the morning as the product is meant to be used. So I now take my little Sephora sample pots with me when I'm going to the cosmetic counter and fill 'em up. No one really notices or has ever said anything. Why don't any shops other than Sephora offer this? I have to BYO my little pots everywhere. Grrr. TGIF my good friends. :D You are the roots that sleep beneath my feet & hold the earth in place Myself | July 2009 | Kansas City, MO _______________________ You are the roots that sleep beneath my feet, and hold the earth in place. Each time a faucet opens, words are spoken, the water runs away, and I hear your name. No, nothing has changed. There was this book I read and loved, the story of a ship. who sailed around the world and found, that nothing else exists; beyond his own two sails, and wooden shell, and what is held within. All else is sure to pass, we clutch and grasp, and debate what's truly permanent. But when the wind starts to shift, there's no argument. I sing and dream and sleep on floors, and try hard not to be annoyed, by all these people worrying about me. So when I'm suffering through some awful drive, you occasionally cross my mind. NOUBA MAKE UP : NOUBA MAKE
NOUBA MAKE UP : MAKE UP TIPS FOR OVER 50 : LIL KIM WITH NO MAKE UP. Nouba Make Up
A Delicate Task My morning life is by now a well rehearsed routine. First, my alarm goes off and is repeatedly snoozed for at least a half hour until my wife threatens to murder me if I don't either get up or turn it off. Second, I make a pot of overly strong coffee (Illy...mmmm)and wait until my eyes defog and feeling returns to my extremities. Then, of course, it's a little blur of photoblog posting, a little web surfing, possibly a round of gaming, then a quick shower and off to work. It's a pretty normal routine I suppose, which brings me to today's post. It's hard for me to imagine every day involving over an hour of hair, makeup, and costume assembly. The Cirque du Soleil outfits are beautifully elaborate and the makeup is no exception. I would sometime love to get backstage and see the entire cast during pre-show prep, as I imagine it's quite a sight. This particular shot was taken inside a very expensive and expansive RV we rented for the shoot and I managed to slip inside between chaotic moments and get a few shots of the prep. la nouba ..going over some stuff, saw this one that looked like a crab’s face so here it is.. La Nouba is a Cirque du Soleil show, which, like most Cirque du Soleil shows, is a circus-like performance featuring acrobats, gymnasts, and other skilled performers. Its title derives from the French phrase faire la nouba, meaning “to party” or “to live it up”. La Nouba is in permanent residence in a custom-built, freestanding theater at Downtown Disney’s West Side at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. One critic wrote, “La Nouba has many pivotal points that make the show what it is… You are guaranteed to find details of the show you will both dislike and adore.” See also: organic cosmetics cargo makeup line barefaced mineral cosmetics natural lipstick makeup for fair skin and blue eyes all natural cosmetic make up for asian hair and makeup hot makeup trends |

what in my bag after I LOVE NEW YORK!!!!!!!! we landed at 6am this morning, without getting any sleep last night and i'm desperately trying to focus on the screen now as my eyes just aren't working. I also have to go out and teach a FLASH lighting course tonight....... You are bound to see lots of photos from the new york trip on my stream over the next year or so, but for now here is a 'whats in my bag' picture for after the trip. We didn't buy that much as the pound has really weakened against the dollar and things were pretty much as they are back here. anyway keep checking the stream, as i got though 12 rolls of film and one 4 gig memory card for the compact. miss y'all What's In My Bag NOW I guess all the cool kids are posting the contents of their bags...some are very interesting. Since I've procrastinated on buying a new bag as well as cleaning out my old one and needed a kick in the pants, last night I thought I'd snap a "before" photo and this is what I found in my bag. I guess I will try again later with a real camera. Maybe by then the kitten will have found someplace else to light.
