AQUA VU SCOUT UNDERWATER CAMERA

Paddling and camping with Caney, Aim, Dad, and my brother and sister during June/July 2009 at Round Lake and Lake Lila for a week.

This was one of the rainiest and buggiest weeks I have ever camped. In fact it was so wet, my camera equipment largely stayed tucked away inside the tent in it's waterproof casing.

It wasn't constant rain, but it was 2 days of mixed sun and rain with short severe storms, followed by 3 days of rain and clouds, and then a day of little rain and little sun but temps in the upper 50s. The last day it absolutely poured on us most of the day, giving us just enough chance to pack up and dry out.

We camped at two different sites, on two different lakes. Both the sites were a few miles in, far from road noise, cell phone distractions, and the commotion of drive in campgrounds. However, the flip side is you have to move hundreds of pounds of gear and food to feed 5 people and a dog for a week without the ability to go to the grocery store. Nevertheless, getting away from the car for a week, and away from all the other cacophony of life is definitely worth a little more effort "just" to camp.

Well at least the paddle out was dry in comparison to the paddle in. We were treated to rain, hail, lightening, rainbows, wind gust, and boats that were filling with water faster than we could bail them. We had to sit out a lightening filled down pour on an island while being pelted by hail. Although the incredible rainbows the storm produced were almost impressive enough to make it worthwhile.

Finally, on the way out there was a torrential storm as we portaged out stuff up the .3 mile trail doing triple carries.

Just after loading the car, and cleaning up, having hiked up and down a swampy trail with a few hundred pounds of boats and camping supplies, the sun came out brilliantly. The drive home was naturally under sunny and then starry skies.

When Om and Isha got back from swimming in the lake, they found a surprise in the tent before we packed it up.

Several butterflies had flown into the tent as we were breaking it down, apparently attracted to the white shell.

Well the kids got inside and spent about 10 minutes playing with the buttflies.
