365/209 The Princess Of Quite Alot of Toile
I love this print. It is my favorite. As you can see my makeup cases are toile, pj pants (multiple pairs), my bag, and notebooks. There is more but this is just what is at the house and not in storage!
So much toile. I want the luggage, I am just too cheap to buy it, it is not neccesary even for the girl that travels all the time. I might ask for it for christmas.
Alot is going on right now. My world is crashing and there are some major choices that I have to make. I know I am smiling in this picture but it is fake, I am dealing. I will still try and take my 365's but this might be the hardest time I have ever experienced in my life.
In life we have choices that shape our future. I have decisions to make and they are not easy. So give me a few weeks and I will be back in full force atleast I hope!

How to make a cheap and simple studio flower shot:
• have nice person send flowers; let flowers mature,
• place flowers in best available light (in this case the kitchen sink),
• use plastic that flowers came wrapped in as background & light diffuser (saved especially for this purpose),
• use black-jacketed book by Bill Bryson to provide dark backgound (dark background images rejected, but not on account of book content)
• dig out headlamp from makeup bag and contort body into awkward position to provide self-held backlighting,
• use faucet for camera support and upturned bowl on drying rack for elbow support,
• hold shutter down for a while until phone realises that you're not sending an sms but taking a photo

In Loving Memory...
Josh Mason, July 13 1979 - July 28 2008
I just found out that an old friend of mine, Josh Mason, passed away. His memorial is on Sunday. He was just 29 years old.
This was taken at the Anything Goes cast party our senior year of high school in Josh's kitchen. I had the lead, I was Reno Sweeny, and Josh was my love interest, Sir Evelyn. We used to go into the school auditorium during our study hall and rehearse together; the two of us singing Let's Misbehave was really just too much!
Our senior year kicked ass...we had the best study hall group, ever; me, Josh, Liz Rice, Nat Cusson, and Brianna Burke. We would run into town to grab snacks, or a quick bite at the "Crash Landing" (the Mast Landing was its real name), and our conversations...they were memorable. Including one day when Josh declared he would from that day forward call his penis "Brutus".
Josh had a fading black eye in this photo...received from a nasty sucker punch in the high school parking lot. He thought the fight was over, they were cool, they were going to walk away, and the other guy (was it Ryan Flynn?) said, "Josh," and he turned around, and Ryan sucker punched him. The punch didn't leave the black eye, the mirror on the car door that Josh hit face first on his way down is what got him. He was suspended for fighting on school property and it was a HUGE struggle for the drama club advisors to get permission for him to perform in the show.
When we did Josh's make up I had to feed fishing line through the hole in his lip before we could apply his base, as he couldn't wear his piercing on stage but it was too recent to really remove, either. I remember singing on stage with him and smirking, seeing that hole in his lip with fishing line through it, and thinking how silly it looked.
God, it's funny how it all comes back to me suddenly, more than 11 years later.
Josh is the first person from my graduating high school class to pass away. We lost someone a year ahead of me, but I wasn't friends with him. I have lost plenty of friends, but Josh is the first one from high school whose funeral I will attend.
I was just talking on the phone to a mutual friend of ours, James. James found me not on myspace or facebook, but here on flickr this last year and we reconnected. We were laughing that morbid though it sounds we might finally have a high school reunion because of this. And I noted that ironically, the last time I saw Josh in person was at James's father's funeral in January of 1998. It has been a long ten years to say the least.
When James found me on flickr he gave me Josh's phone number. It's still in my cell phone...only I never called.
Now I will never have the chance.
I don't know why I didn't call, it's not that I wasn't curious how he was, or didn't want to say hi, maybe I was waiting for some epiphany to hit.
The sad truth is that I have no good reason.
And neither do any of you: never, never put off calling a friend or loved one. Or that contact in your phone? You won't ever have that chance.
I think I lost that scarf there that night, I've never seen it again. And that was the BEST SWEATER. Ever. Jantzen from the '60s. My husband shrunk it to doll size. I never forgave him and only just recently finally gave it to Goodwill where perhaps some midget will fall in love with it.
Josh handwrote on the back of this photo in bright blue ink, "why the fuck does everyone congregate in the kitchen?" which is another random memory to come to me since hearing about his death.
Day 63/365- Open Your Eyes To The Love Around You. (Dove Chocolate Promises 1/8)

This is a part of my mini series, Dove Chocolate Promises. I collect these foil wrappers and plan on covering my whole wall with them by the end of the year. I decided to start my first one today with Brett, since he came over. After a billion tries and weird positions, we finally got a good picture. I bet you can't even tell it's photoshopped. :)
Today was blahhhhh. The school part at least. My Algebra class learned that on Monday we were doing everything wrong. It was sort of a difficult concept to grasp, but I think I get it. I just don't understand the point of it all. In P.E., we talked about religion, and that was nice. In English, our teacher gave us a list of 11 statements and she wanted us to write whether we agreed or disagreed with each one and why, Our discussion got pretty heated because some ignorant guy in our class was being...ignorant and stupid. I went running after school today and good golly my thighs hurt really bad. :( I want to start running on a regular basis though because I need to stay healthy. Brett got here around 4:20, right after I found out that Hobby Lobby DOES NOT WANT ME. I'm so sad. :( My parents don't want me working in food, and Brett says not to work at Kroger. NOR DO I WANT TO. I'll try JC Penney or Palais Royal or something. I'm not giving up. I'm going to apply at so many places until I find a freakin JOB. I need to start saving up for my car, my lens, my acoustic guitar, and not to mention i want to put money aside if I ever REALLY need something. But anyways, Brett and I lounged around for a bit and then headed to church around 6:50. I wish more people wanted to go to our church camp, Big Stuf, because it's such a cool church. I wish it was still how it was in the summer before...8th or 9th grade when EVERYONE went. :/ But yeah after church Adam, Cece Chris, Caleb, Brett, and I went to Chick Fil A to eat because the pizza place our church was at is NASTAY. We talked about Sponge Bob, just like we did last time we were at Chick Fil A. Bahahaha and there were these two girls in the play place directly to my right and I made a creepy ass stalker face at them and then they started cracking up! They would hide and then come out only to see me making the face again hahaha. I love children sometimes. Everyone left around 8:40 so Brett and I came back to my house. I uploaded my picture for the day, and he left around 9:15. And I am not even sad! That's a real record for me. I've been unusually happy and outgoing lately. It's weird, but I wish I was like this all the time.

A Summer Close-Up
Time for some Summer pictures! c:
During this photoshoot, I could've had a freakin' heart-attack. Di-Chan fell! I was posing her by the railing on my front steps when I turned my head for a split second to grab her brush because there was a breeze that was making her hair a bit out of place. When I turned my head, she was falling backwards off the side of the steps until I grabbed her. Then, when I grabbed her, I heard a CRACK! I panicked. I quickly checked everything, like her neck joint and eye functions. Everything seems to be fine, but it sure as Hell scared me.
Anywho, turns out I do not need the operation! :] I do still need my feet operated on because of all the pain I have with them, but that doesn't scare me nearly as much. I am happy though, because I finally got a new Psychiatrist that hopefully, will actually listen to what I have to say and not just sit there and laugh at it (yes, seriously), unlike my last one. I also got a therapist, finally!

This one took a little while to do because I had to "paint" the pole and lines but it is really cool looking, don't ya think?

Pte Ryan Scott is about to start up a fire on top of snow.
Canadian Ranger Oswald (Ozzie) Dyson, Patrol Commander for Churchill Falls Canadian Ranger Patrol, shows Private Ryan Scott, a member of 1st Battalion, Royal New Brunswick Regiment, Fredericton, the proper technique in starting a fire on top of snow. The Canadian Ranger from Churchill Falls assisted on Ex Stalwart Goose in teaching the soldiers survival skills for the far north.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, Royal New Brunswick Regiment, Edmonston, Fredericton, Grand Falls and St. John New Brunswick, conduct a sovereignty exercise during EXERCISE STALWART GOOSE in Churchill Falls Labrador along with the guidance and assistance of members from the Canadian Rangers (CR) from 5 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group (CRPG), Churchill Falls Patrol.
The Eastern Arctic region of Canada continues to be the focus of strategic importance to the Government of Canada and the Canadian Forces (CF) as we fine-tune our capabilities in conducting Sovereignty Exercises (SOVEXs) and Sovereignty Operations (SOVOPs). From this analysis, Churchill Falls, Labrador was chosen for EX SG 10 as it offers the remoteness and limited infrastructure making the conduct of any CF northern operation extremely challenging.
1 Royal New Brunswick Regiment (1RNBR) as the Land force Atlantic Area (LFAA) Arctic Response Company Group (ARCG) toke advantage of this remoteness and incorporate the achievements and lessons learned from EX STALWART GOOSE 09 in conducting this exercise. It is expected that this unit will accomplish the requirements to further develop and refine our arctic war fighting skills whilst fulfilling the task of conducting a SOVEX.

La region de l’Arctique de l’Est du Canada revet toujours une importance strategique pour le gouvernement du Canada et les Forces canadiennes (FC), en rapport avec la mise au point de nos capacites de realisation d’exercices de souverainete (SOVEX) et d’operations d’affirmation de la souverainete (SOVOP). Suite a cette analyse, on a choisi la region de Churchill Falls, au Labrador, pour l’Ex SG 10 car elle est eloignee et elle offre une infrastructure restreinte, ce qui rend tres difficile la realisation d’une operation nordique par les FC.
Le 1er Bataillon du Royal New Brunswick Regiment (1 RNBR), en qualite de groupe-compagnie d’intervention dans l’Arctique du Secteur de l’Atlantique de la Force terrestre (SAFT), a tire parti de l’eloignement et a integre les realisations et les lecons retenues de l’Ex Stalwart Goose 09 a l’execution de cet exercice. On prevoit que cette unite permettra de respecter les exigences liees a l’amelioration et au peaufinage de nos capacites de combat dans l’Arctique tout en menant a bien un SOVEX.

Nieuwenhuys, Jan (1922-1986) - 1975 Come Rain or Shine (Private Collection)
Jan Nieuwenhuys was a Dutch painter and one of the early active founders of the Dutch Experimentalists group that later became CoBrA. At age of 14, Nieuwenhuys and his brother, Constant, decided to become painters. From 1938 to 1941 he attended the Rijksnormaalschool in Amsterdam. Later he also took lessons at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. At the Rijksacademie he met Karel Appel and Corneille. During World War II Nieuwenhuys painted almost only clowns, nudes and couples making love.
In 1948 Appel, Corneille, Constant and Jan Nieuwenhuys and others founded the Experimentele Groep Holland that a few months later became the European group CoBrA. During this period Jan's paintings were influenced by dreams, children's drawings, the artistic expressions of mentally handicapped people and primitive art. Animals such as birds and cats play a leading role in most of his works, along with fantastic creatures and beings that are made up of a combination of human, animal and mechanical elements.
His paintings became more and more liberated and he experimented with different materials like fluorescent paint and everything he could get his hands on. Everything could become a painting. In an interview from 1964 he said: "I start with my material and my color. With that I express myself. From the material I come to my subject and that is maybe contrary to what painters did in earlier days. I paint the way I write, the way I laugh. That is why I paint differently all the time, because my moods change. That’s the way I feel."

Coach purse cake
Vanilla cake w/ strawberry filling & cream cheese frosting. Sugar pearls were the only thing I didn't make on this cake. Everything else was handmade. I used a 1 cup measuring cup to cut out the "C" and used the icing tip to cut out the inside of the "C" a little offset. The makeup was just hand sculpted and the logo hand panted with white food coloring.

unfortunately the internet wasn't working at the school today...(as often..) We had a great class though...
we talked about ...what if you would like to start your own website...where would you start??
1. start with a blog. Go to blogger.com or wordpress.com and make your own blog
2. start your blog, but on your own domain. gives you more options (you have to register your domain and pay for hosting costs)...but this gives you more freedom in design and more storage space for example.
3. create from scratch. Registering your own domain, arrange a host and build a website from scratch. (use for example flash/html/php...)
The sad thing is: those COSAT students have IT as a subject. They learn programming!! (php) ...but they've got no clue what they can do with it. A world opened up for them when I told them they might be able to build their own website....
aaaai...we need a IT teacher who takes the PHP to another dimension...take it from theory and pure facts and language to possibilities!!!! HELP!

Spent the day attending online class with Jasmine Star which was AMAZING to say the very least. I have been attending the other classes leading up to this for most of the week, today however was the actual wedding and much more in depth and long (about 9 hours to be exact).
It was both incredible and exhausing to go through shooting a wedding from start to finish with her and having her advice the whole way through.
She even answered a few of my questions which was really awesome.I am going to have to develop some serious J* type stamina to make it in this business that is for darn sure!
Well, both my head and my notebook are full so unfortunately this is the photo you're stuck with today. I feel it is quite reflective of my day, so I actually quite like it.

Day 80- Naptime has arrived
Hello guys. This photo is not from Mac Photobooth today. It's from home.
I didn't sleep well last night and was feeling pretty crappy this morning. I actually got up, got dressed, went to my orthodontic appointment and tried to go to work. My boss kindly said it was fine to go on home. Now I'm home in my jammies and no makeup and boy can you tell in this photo. I am a lady that needs a little help in the morning!
Saturday I worked at the UT game all day. That night the hubby and I went to eat dinner at La Feria with some friends. I even had a Patron shot! WOWZERS. It was a fun night and we were in bed before midnight.
Yesterday I had brunch at Kerbey Lane Cafe with Mom and Grandmother. These crazy ladies ate so thriftily that the tab came to a whopping $26. I paid and you would think I had offered to buy them a new car or something. You get to a certain age and you should take your parents out to eat now and then, don't ya think?
Afterwards I made the questionable decision to go to Costco (on a SUNDAY) and do some stocking up. I hadn't been in a couple of months and boy was I missing that hummus they sell. Then I went over to WalMart and got a few more things. Then home, laundry, cleaning/organizing the pantry and cleaning kitty litter. Last night we watched the season premiere of The Amazing Race. I LOVE that show.
I never did get a nap, but that is the plan for today. I've got some laundry going and I'm about to go get into bed for a nice long nap. Later on I'm going to try to get out and swing by the post office to send off a package. If I'm feeling up to it after Amos gets off work we will go to the gym today too.
How was your weekend? Do you take your parents out to eat now and then? Do they let you (Amos's parents never allow us to pay for a meal. NEVER)? Do naps work into your life?

Starting at the Beginning
I just sold my Nikon D40 on Ebay, so we are having some sentimental time together before I have to send her out via UPS.
Throughout the 18 or so months that I have had her, I have learned a lot, and yet still understood very little. There were moments when I got the settings so screwed up the photos were merely snapshots of black.
Since Day One, I have pushed myself to learn more- to take more challenging shots. And while I consider myself far from a photographer, I know that one day my vision of the world might be captured so I can preserve my life the way I have always seen it.
It is one PM and I am still in pajamas, face moisturized but not yet wearing the daily mask of pigments and powders. Mondays are for work days spent at home--long hours spent in quiet familiar spaces. Mondays are for days I say goodbye to an old friend and welcome a new one.
My Nikon D5000 will be here Wednesday. New adventures are bound to ensue.
