Last year, God sent a reward for the slogging I had done, as a fully-paid trip, which was part of my photo-assignment I got to do for a tour operator in Egypt.

It just so happened that one day, a friend came to visit us who had just finished her software assignment in Egypt. On hearing her exciting narration about her holiday like work in Egypt, my wife expressed her desire to visit Egypt saying that it is her childhood dream to visit Egypt oneday. Which I never knew, but I also had fascination about the great cultural heritage of Egypt and the Nile. On this, I said that if a person keeps its dream alive and works on it a bit, of course without losing sleep over it, then sooner or later `dream comes true' for sure. But there is only one condition - whatever work you do, put in hundred percent with your heart and soul into it. I started my still photography only in November 2005 at the famous Pushkar Cattle Fair. Eversince, I have worked day and night passionately. The result has been that two rewards fell into my lap - photographer a reputed a coffee table book of the Indian Army, which got completed in less than one year and the two weeks of fully paid holiday in Egypt. No words can express our joy, which we had on this holiday. We had fallen in love with the Nile, which we saw very closely from the window of our cabin of cruise ship for more than a week. The blue water of the Nile and the stories of the Pharos are all mesmerising. We had about ten days of the Nile cruise. Its a great place for travellers and photographers.

I have about 250 reasonable shot from Egypt trip.

Here on this wall I have also done a mock up of different color. I personally like A the best. It warms up the space and I think will go beautifully with the burgundy if you decide to keep it in your kitchen and put it on the one dining room wall. These two colors will complement each other in this open space. A is supposed to be a tan color that has more brown in it than say the gold like you have on walls in pic on upper left.

Painting Lower Ceilings
Consider painting the ceilings in entry way, hallway and kitchen the same color as the tan you put on the walls only make it a smidge lighter because if you try to use the wall color on the ceiling it will appear two shades darker. In my example A, I didn't really do the ceiling as dark as it should be. It should kind of blend with the wall color more. Do the same thing on the "ceiling" in the bow window. Treat the ceiling in that window as though it is a wall. This will keep the walls from looking so choppy in this open living arrangement.

Decor at Pitch of Ceiling
Think about removing the decor that is in the triangle near the ceiling. I know it is tempting to fill the space but when you look at this wall, it is so busy with a lot of small things. You don't really need to put anything up at the triangle to get people's eyes to move up there because the ceiling is already so high and you get that sense as soon as you walk in that you don't need to accentuate it further.

Foyer Table and Lights
Instead of a foyer table and lights to the left of the door think about putting something else there. With the light already at that end of the sofa I don't think you need more light. I would put one of the candle stick lights to the left on the buffet/dresser on the in between wall. You can keep the table there but think about putting plants/greenery/flowers on it instead.

Although the picture is nice that is on wall behind the door think about putting a large round mirror there.

Place a throw rug at door. Make sure it is at least as wide as door.

In preparation for Billy coming, I cleaned and organized the apartment like never before. I took photos of everything except the bedroom and bathroom (as they weren't as clean) and finally have some good photos to show far-away friends of our home. I never did this with the house, after we spent lots of money and countless hours painting a place we didn't even own, so I vowed to never let it happen again.

This is our dining area. I'm standing in the living area to take the photo. The apartment is tiny, as we made the big sacrifice of space to save up to move, but we do the best we can.

New dining table!

It fits perfectly in this tiny little space. I'm so excited to have a table again! I'm so glad that I could find something small enough - and that it had drop leaves! Ahhh the joys of studio living. :o)

Next step - chairs! I rather desperately want Eames Eiffel chairs....two - no wait four - in white, please! Time to start saving my pennies!

Me standing in the sliding door to our "fully furnished walk-out lanai" - or as we call them in Texas - patio with table and chairs... Not having a true balcony was a bit of a disappointment at first, but we soon came to appreciate the ability to just wander out off the lanai and down the walk, if we wanted. And, we were closer to the trees and birds, so it was very nice - very quiet.

Except for the early morning ritual of the calling birds that were a reminder that we weren't in Kansas any more. They had a distinctly wild and tropical sound to them and trying to capture them on film gave me something to do in the early morning...

Rough #2 - with drawn sliding doors

so changes here are:

1) switched out the small desk for large desk. Then I can put that sliding drawer underneath the desk, plus with the large desk I have the top part of the desk, which I can therefore put the printer and work phone on (that is the big issue with the small desk is I dont have that 2 tier setup. Only issue would be that the speaker for the TV would come into the front of the desk by 3" which is nothing

2) I removed the "chair"

Tool Box

This was Dale's grandfather's toolbox. We picked it up when we were in Iowa this past week. It weighs a TON. There is a "garage door" that covers up all but the bottom drawer when it is not in use. I believe the center tall drawer is just the right size to house a smaller handplane. The sales manual was in it, too.

It had some tools in it - many, many, many micrometers in all sizes, a number of other calipers, a lovely set of wee Starrett dividers, some camphor, some edge scrapers. It's in pretty great shape, though slightly musty from being in the basement all this time.

Of course, we only half have room for this - I think it looks great on this side table in the dining room/all-purpose room, but now I need to find homes for the mantle clock and linoleum block that lived there. It will be great to have all of my tools more accessible and visible - they are in some smaller cabinets now, and involve a lot of digging.

I was at the cottage in Michigan, nursing my morning hangover with a cup of coffee and my first cigarette. While nerding out watching the birds flying about, out of the corner of my eye I saw a mouse run behind an old table inside the enclosed screen porch.

I never saw it run out, so I figured I would open the door and try to force it outside so it doesn't get caught for eternity on a sticky trap. (Really, who wants to die that way?)

When I moved the table I realized, it wasn't a mouse. It was a spider. A really large spider. To give you scale, this shot is at 50 mm, minimally cropped.

Now the trouble was getting this thing on top of the table and into the sun so I can take some images. I grabbed the heaviest piece of paper I could find, and lifted him/her up. Every time it moved its creepy legs, (read; twitched, the wind blew, I made up said movement) I dropped it and had to repeat the process.

Between getting it on the table and finally releasing it outside (who kills anything?), I dropped it and had to repeat around 8 times.

This is why I leave mice alone. They are not mice, but spiders wearing mouse costumes to sucker you in, and then terrify/humiliate you in front of friends by making the pitch of your voice 3 octaves higher than you ever thought it would go. Ultimately sounding like a a 3 year old girl.

Relaxing on the Death Star

After last week's Game Night failure, Stormtrooper Bruce decided he likes Movie Night much better. At least he gets to sit down and enjoy the fun. This time STB pulls out a fav horror movie, one they've all seen dozens of times. One that never gets old. And one they love to change up the dialogue to add their own lines for the actors.

STB: Hey mac, which way to the Pet Store? I need a new flea collar.
