A Day in the Life, No. 1

A Day in the Life, No. 1

I often see photos on Flickr and other blogs of people's meals, not always understanding what's to photograph there. I've taken a few myself.

It's probably because food is such a constant and fundamental aspect of our lives. Maybe it's just one of those simple pleasures we try to capture and preserve occasionally. Maybe we're just out of ideas and this is all that's left (..sad..). I dunno...

I'm on holiday break this week. It's not often I have time to eat a decent breakfast during the normal work week. Sometimes it's nice to sit down, relax and enjoy a nice warm breakfast in the winter months. This use to manifest itself to me on Friday mornings, which I have off typically. Friday mornings were nice to have off since it would've been tough to find a table quickly on Saturday or Sunday morning (..Seattle is a real breakfast town..).

I used to grab a New York Times and head off to a restaurant for some coffee and bacon and eggs. For years it was at the 5 Spot on top of Queen Anne Hill in Seattle. The food was great and the NYT's Friday edition always covers baseball, even in the winter months. It was one of life's simple, unremarkable pleasures and a terrific, if banal, routine.

I don't do that too often anymore. Now I usually eat at home. Still, there's few things as good as a bowl of thick oatmeal with a little raw sugar and milk. And a cup of OJ to polish it off....

This will be the first of a new set called A Day in the Life. It'll compete with my Mundane set for some of the most boring photos I take...

Queen Anne

Queen Anne is the neighbourhood to the north of Belltown. It's on a bit of a hill and has a bunch of giant cellphone towers (which are a bit of an eye-sore).
