Dr. Allison Davis Black Heritage Stamp
(October 14, 1902 – November 21, 1983) was an educator, anthropologist, writer, researcher, and scholar. He was considered one of the most promising black scholars of his generation, and became the first African-American to hold a full faculty position at a major white university when he joined the staff of the University of Chicago in 1942, where he would spend the balance of his academic life. Among his students during his tenure at the University of Chicago were anthropologist St. Clair Drake and sociologist Nathan Hare. Davis, who has been honored with a commemorative postage stamp by the United States Postal Service, is best remembered for his pioneering anthropology research on southern race and class during the 1930s, his research on intelligence quotient in the 1940’s and 50’s, and his support of “compensatory education” that contributed to the intellectual genesis of the federal program Head Start.
Born in 1902 to John Abraham and Gabrielle Davis, William Boyd Allison Davis, who would later be known only as Allison Davis, entered into family well-acquainted with both achievement and activism. He was the oldest of three children with a younger sister, Dorothy, and a younger brother, John Aubrey Davis, Sr.. Davis’s grandfather had been an abolitionist lawyer. His father led a group of seventeen white clerks as the head of a government printing office before his demotion under the policies of the Wilson administration, and chaired the anti-lynching committee of Washington D.C.'s chapter of the NAACP. Davis would describe him as a “brave man” who was “already marked in a town of 236 citizens” as a large landowner who “further angered whites by registering and voting.”
Allison Davis's path to the university faculty was possible largely because of his academic achievements that preceded it, many of which were entirely unavailable to most African-Americans at the turn of the century
Allison Davis entered Washington D.C.’s segregated Dunbar High School in 1916 and, like his father before him, graduated as its valedictorian. The school had been founded almost a half-century before, making it the nation’s oldest public black high school, and had since developed a reputation that pulled black families to the nation’s capital for the chief purpose of gaining residency within the school district. Bucking national trends, the school had settled firmly in the Du Bois camp during the debates on black education a few years before and offered a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that included Greek and Latin.
Though the quality of black colleges would steadily increase through the mid-century, at the time of Davis’s graduation most black “colleges” were still teaching primary and secondary curricula; the ticket to the white post-graduate program was most often through the white university. Between 1916 and 1922, Dunbar sent sixteen students to the Ivy League, Williams, Amherst, and Wesleyan. Williams College had a singular arrangement with Dunbar that allotted one full merit-based scholarship per year to the valedictorian. From this agreement Williams derived its entire black cohort and in 1920 drew Davis into its ranks.

American WAC, Women's Army Corps, Splash
Manila, April 19, 1945—The first WACs to arrive here lost no time in making good use of an undamaged swimming pool they found on the outskirts of the city. Look at the Filipino kids in the back. All smiles but in a “I can’t believe it” way.
The Women's Army Corps (WAC) was the women's branch of the US Army. It was created as an auxiliary unit, the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps the 14 May 1942, and converted to full status as the WAC in 1943. Its first director was Oveta Culp Hobby, at the time a lawyer, a newspaper research editor and the wife of a prominent Texas politician.
About 150,000 American women served in the WAAC and WAC during World War II. They were the first women other than nurses to serve with the Army. While conservative opinion in the leadership of the Army and public opinion generally was initially opposed to women serving in uniform, the shortage of men necessitated a new policy. While most women served stateside, some went to various places around the World, including Europe, North Africa and New Guinea. For an example WACs landed on Normandy Beach just a few weeks after the initial invasion.
Some men feared that if women became soldiers they would no longer serve in a masculine preserve and their masculinity would be devalued. Others feared being sent into combat units if women took over the safe jobs
General Douglas MacArthur called the WACs "my best soldiers", adding that they worked harder, complained less, and were better disciplined than men. Many generals wanted more of them and proposed to draft women but it was realised that this "would provoke considerable public outcry and Congressional opposition" and the War Department declined to take such a drastic step. Those 150,000 women that did serve released the equivalent of 7 divisions of men for combat. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower said that "their contributions in efficiency, skill, spirit, and determination are immeasurable".
During the same time period, other branches of the U.S. military had similar women's units, including the Navy WAVES, the SPARS of the Coast Guard and the (civil) Women Airforce Service Pilots. The British Armed Forces also had similar units, including the Women's Auxiliary Air Force.
The WAC was disbanded in 1978. Since then, women in the U.S. Army have served in the same units as men, though they have only been allowed in or near combat situations since 1994 when Defense Secretary Les Aspin ordered the removal of "substantial risk of capture" from the list of grounds for excluding women from certain military units

Chapter 1
How Easy Is Romance on a Cruise Ship?
I had been onboard my first ship for five days when I went to the crew bar and met a woman from Trinidad and Tobago. She was a black woman and she was overweight, maybe even a little flabby, but such a sweetheart. I saw her the next night in the crew bar and she looked upset so I went over and sat down.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“I just had an argument with the chief purser,” she said with her Caribbean accent.
“That’s too bad.”
“Yes, I do not get along with the pursers on this ship very well,” she said, starting to tear up a little. “I do not have many friends onboard.”
Although I liked her, I could understand why others might shy away. She had slow, almost voodoo-like mannerisms that bordered on creepy. But she was so easy to talk to and, like me, perfectly content to sit and talk one on one.
“So do you have a girlfriend?” she asked, changing the subject.
“No.”
“Have you been with anyone on the ship yet?”
“Nope. It’s actually been twelve years since I slept with someone.”
“Come on now.”
“It’s true.” I said, and then told her why (more on that later).
“Hmm. That’s fascinating. You know, I used to sleep with a skinny white guy from England on my last ship. You remind me of him.”
“Oh, yeah?”
“He and I had lots of fun, and I never left him unsatisfied. I may not look it, but I’m actually a really good lover.”
“You don’t say.”
“I’ve been with lots of men in my day. I’m forty-one, after all. And in my years, I’ve learned exactly what men like and how to please them. And now”—she took a sip of her drink—“and now all the men I sleep with are extremely satisfied.”
I had always imagined athletic girls—especially flexible athletic girls—to be the best lovers. But this lady from Trinidad had me rethinking that assumption. Maybe it was just another one of the after effects of abstinence, but those voodoo mannerisms were now bordering on sensual.
“Would you like to have sex with me?” she asked, taking another sip of her drink. “We could go to my cabin right now.”
Woodrow.
I couldn’t believe how quickly the opportunity had presented itself. “I might be interested in that.”
“Might?”
“Yeah.”
“But not right now?”
“Yeah, not just yet.”
“Okay, well, you think about it and I’ll call you later this week.” She got up and left me at the table, alone with my thoughts.
My cabin phone rang at 8:00 p.m. two days later.
“Hi, it’s me,” she said. “How are you?”
“I’m good. How are you?” I responded.
“Good, good. Are you ready to do what we talked about the other night?” she asked, wasting no time on idle chit-chat...

Cruise Quarters - A novel About Casinos and Cruise Ships is a fun, fast paced tale of working in the casino aboard a Regal Cruises cruise-ship. The crew of the Regal Star resemble a mini United Nations, hiring people from all over the world. But unlike the UN, Regal Cruise's employees present a united front above decks as they attend to their passenger's every need. Below decks though, that is a different story. Sarah Seldon is a croupier on the luxury liner. After many unhappy endings, and burnt out on shipboard romance, she is determined to forget about men and concentrate on becoming a casino manager. On land women face a dearth of GOOD men but on a ship giving up men would take willpower. The mostly male crew exist to serve her every need. The waiters bring her food, the Filipino steward cleans her room, the Italian chefs cook for her and the Welsh plumber fixes her sink. She leads a cushy life, sleeping 'til noon, eating gourmet food, and the topper - she gets to wake up in beautiful new place everyday. All because she works in a casino, a place so bad it has SIN in the middle. After college she took a summer job at Lake Tahoe in the casino business and became a member of the Church of Gambling. She has been in the gambling business long enough to know that in order for a gambler to be successful, they must have Lady Luck on their side. But a gambler also has to follow the rules of basic strategy. When love unexpectedly sneaks up on Sarah on the magical island of Mayreau, she wonders whether she could apply the rules of gambling to love? What if she could write Sarah Seldon's Basic Strategy of Love? Book a cruise and travel with Sarah and the crew as they work, play, feast, and fall in and out of love, all while the ship sails around the globe, stopping at exotic ports of call. Along the way, sight-see in Venice, shop in St. Martin, and take an eco-cruise down the Amazon. Let the crew tell you their own stories as they sit in the hallway in the wee hours of the morning. While the ship travels to new destinations, tired and tipsy they share tales of love and betrayal. On a summer break from her teaching job Cara took a summer job in Lake Tahoe and didn't leave for many years. Raymond was studying at City University in London when he saw an advert 'Train up To Be a Dealer, see the world'. He took that advice and worked as an inspector in casinos all over Europe, from Moscow to Greece. The couple met while working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. Raymond jumped ship to be with Cara and they married after a whirlwind romance. Their knowledge offers a rare insiders look at casino operations. The couple also walked 500 miles across Spain, Their movie of the trip, Camino De Santiago - A Walker's Guide, is a popular guide to the Camino. You can find them at www.caminovideo.com or on Amazon.

Conference of the Birds
An Abridged Version of Farid Ud Atta's "Mantiq Ut Tayar" (reprint 1924, 19 x 12.3 x 1 cm)
Like Rumi and Hafiz, the name Attar conjures up images of passionate attraction to the divine. Attar was a Persian Sufi of the 12th century and his masterpiece is The Conference of the Birds, an epic allegory of the seeker's journey to God. When all the birds of the world convene and determine that they lack a king, one bird steps forward and offers to lead them to a great and mighty monarch. Initially excited, each bird falters in turn, whereupon the leader admonishes them with well-targeted parables. These pithy tales are the delight of this 4,500-line poem, translated deftly into rhymed couplets. What is your excuse for not seeking God? Your life is fine already? You prefer material pleasure? You are holy enough? You have pride, lack courage, or are burdened with responsibility? Attar has an answer to encourage you on the path to the promised land. And when you get there, the king may not be what you'd expect, but you must make the journey to see. --Brian Bruya

Shi'a Islam in India
168,471 items / 1,313,441 views
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shia Muslims are a large minority among India's Muslims. However, there has been no particular census conducted in India with regards to sects, but Indian sources like Times of India and DNA reported Indian Shiite population in mid 2005-2006 between 25% to 31% of entire Muslim population of India which accounts them in numbers between 40,000,000[1][1] to 50,000,000[2] of 157,000,000 Indian Muslim population[3]. However, as per an estimation of one reputed Shiite NGO Alimaan Trust, India's Shia population in early 2000 was around 30 million with Sayyids comprising just over half of the entire Shia population[4]. According to some national and international sources Indian Shia population is the world's second-largest after Iran[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13], Shiite population was also acclaimed publicly as second largest by the 14th Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh quoted in the year 2005.[14][15] One of the lingering problems in estimating the Shia population is that unless the Shia form a significant minority in a Muslim country, the entire population is often listed as Sunni. For example, the 1926 rise of the House of Saud in Arabia brought official discrimination against Shias. The Shia-majority areas of Al-Hasa, Qatif and Hofuf on the Persian Gulf, Western Arabia provinces of Jizan, Asir, and Hejaz that had large Shia minorities have officially been completely stripped off their religious identities.[16] Shiites are estimated to be 21-35 percent of the Muslim population in South Asia, although the total number is difficult to estimate due to the intermingling between the Muslim Sects and practice of taqiyya by Shiites.[17]
However, some external sources like the Pew Research Center figure them between 10 to 14 percent giving the numbers between 16,000,000 to 24,000,000[18]. However, the Pew Research Center report is not considered authentic by many Shiites and also national and International reports after taking into consideration the report released by Britannica Book of the year in 1997 which put the estimates of Shiite population in India in 1996 over 26,000,000[19][20][21] out of entire Indian Muslim population of 103,000,000 at that time.[22][23]
There are many big and small towns and villages with majority Shiite Muslim population in India. Many Sayyids between 12th to 16th century migrated to the Indian subcontinent to escape the persecution of Shias in mostly Sunni ruled Middle East. Prominent places in India with majority or considerable Shiite Muslim population are Kargil, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Barabanki, Lucknow, Hallaur, Sadaat Amroha and Naugawan Sadat. Shias in Hallaur, Sadaat Amroha and Naugawan Sadat are majority Sayyids. Among the Shias of India an overwhelming majority belongs to the Ithna Ashari (Twelver) division, while the Shias among the Khoja and Bohra communities are Ismaili.[24] Dawoodi Bohras are primarily based in India, even though the Dawoodi theology originated in Yemen. India is home to the majority Dawoodi Bohra population most of them concentrated in Gujarat out of over 1 million followers worldwide.[25]
There is no certainty as to when the Shia community first established itself in India. As per historical evidences and the genealogy maintained by the Sayyids who migrated to India from Middle East the history of Shia Islam traces long back around 1000 years. The rulers of various dynasties of India and also in the 11th century the rulers of Multan and Sindh which are now part of Pakistan were adherents of Shia Islam.[26] The Nawabs of Awadh and Hyder Ali & Tipu Sultan of Mysore, who were rulers in India, were also Shia Muslims.[27]
Shia culture and belief has left its influence all over India with Imam al Husain ibn Ali becoming the revered personality in India not only for the Shias but also from non-Muslim communities, especially the Hindus of northern India who participate in ceremonies commemorating Husain ibn Ali's martyrdom on the day of Ashura.
Shaykh al-Mufid writes that before the Battle of Karbala, Husain ibn Ali and the commander of the enemy forces, Umar ibn Saad, met at night and talked together for a long time. After that meeting Umar ibn Saad sent a letter to the Governor of Kufa, Ubayd-Allah ibn Ziyad in which he wrote that Husain ibn Ali has suggested that he go to ‘one of the border outposts’ of the rapidly expanding Muslim empire as a way of resolving conflict.[28] Other traditions name that border outpost as Al Hind or India. Even though Husain ibn Ali himself was not able to go to India, some of the Shia did emigrate there for various reasons, including those who came as refugees from Umayyads and Abbasids persecution.[29] These refugees brought with them rituals which kept alive the remembrance of Karbala and their Shia Identity.[30]
Its narrated by Abd al Razzaq al Muqarram in his work of Maqtal al-Husayn that prior to his martyrdom, Al Abbas ibn Ali whi
Henry Hogg Biddle House
70 Satterlee Street, Tottenville, Staten Island, New York City, New York
The Henry Hogg Biddle House, built in the late 1840s, is a rare surviving example of a house that combines in its design spring eave construction with Greek Revival style architecture. The French-derived spring or bell-cast eave was widely used on Staten Island from the late 17th century on. Its combination here with a two-story tall Greek Revival columned portico illustrates one of the most striking of the responses made by Staten Island builders to the high style Greek Revival residences built there by wealthy New York City merchants in the 1830s.
The Biddle House is particularly unusual in that it preserves an extremely rare, and possibly unique, instance on Staten Island and in the rest of New York City of double-height Greek Revival style porticoes used at the front and rear elevations of a structure, creating a dramatic and imposing effect.
The twin porticoes of the Biddle House are a response to its attractive elevated location and provide it with impressive facades whether seen and approached from the street or from the waterfront. Its setting, which includes a long approach drive, fencing and plantings, enhances the character of the architecture.
The Biddle House design expresses the self-described status of its original owner, Henry Hogg Biddle, as a "gentleman," and his position as an important member of both the immediate community of Unionville and the larger village of Tottenville. Today the house stands as a major monument of 19th-century vernacular architecture on Staten Island.
Early History of the Biddle House Site
The immediate setting of the Biddle House, a long rectangular waterfront plot of approximately two acres, was once, like the entire southwestern end of Staten Island, part of the 1600-acre manorial grant received by Captain Christopher Billopp in 1676.
Located about 900 feet south of the Biddle House, Billopp's manor house, a designated New York City Landmark known today as the Conference House, was constructed soon thereafter and occupied by four generations of that family.
To avoid forfeiture during the Revolutionary War period, Billopp's great-grandson, Colonel Christopher Billopp, divided the family lands, already diminished by early sales to slightly over a thousand acres, into nine farms of varying sizes, and sold them off between 1780-81.
The Biddle House site was part of the 373-acre farm which, together with the former Billopp manor house, was acquired by Sainuel Ward in 1781. In 1801 Ward's son Caleb, who occupied the Billop residence until his death in 1834, sold the 30-acre waterfront parcel which includes the Biddle House site to Isaac Butler, Henry Biddle's future father-in-law.
Butler, a farmer, innkeeper and operator for several decades of the ferry to Perth Amboy, New Jersey, which docked near the foot of today's Amboy Road, was already in possession of an approximately 43-acre farm on the northern side of this major Staten Island thoroughfare.
Henry Hogg Biddle
Henry Hogg Biddle was born in New York City about 1806 as Henry Biddle Hogg. In 1828, Henry, his widowed mother Ann, and his two older brothers legally reversed their sur- and middle names to become known as Hogg Biddle. ; Shortly thereafter, Henry and his mother moved to Staten Island; little more than a year later Arm Hogg Biddle died at age 57. She was the first of many Biddle family members to be buried in the graveyard at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Richmondtown.
In February 1831, Biddle married Isaac Butler's daughter Harriet; her father had died just three weeks earlier. Under the terms of Isaac's 1830 will, the 73-acre homestead farm was left to his son Cortlandt and daughters Harriet and Emily (another large farm near Princes Bay was left to his two older children). In 1831, Isaac Butler's estate was divided; thereafter, Henry Biddle seems to have been the person who made the principal decisions relating to the homestead farm.
The Biddle house appears to have been built after the death of Henry's first wife, who died in 1842. The dwelling occupied by Henry, Harriet, their two sons William Henry and Charles Stevens (baptized at St. Andrew's in 1837 and 1840), and Harriet's brother Cortland Butler, was probably the Butler farmhouse located closer to Amboy Road on the original portion of the Butler farm.
The available information concerning Henry Biddle's economic circumstances suggests a construction date for the house in the late 1840s. Biddle's profession is unknown, but he was actively involved in a number of real-estate transactions. In 1835 he obtained a substantial mortgage on
the entire Butler farm from the island's north-shore-based developers, William Staples and Minthorne Tompkins.
Defaulting on the mortgage, he was able to re-acquire the Butler family farm in 1840 at a public auction. His land transactions in the following decade, however, suggest an improved economic status. A

The strange appeal of the cow bell!
Happy Furry Friday Folks!
Let me introduce Siska. Siska lived in the chalet we rented when we went skiing last week.
She’s a mountain dog with a special talent - if ever there is an avalanche (which we saw a few) and someone is caught up in it (luckily not that we saw) - Siska is called for and she looks for them. She finds people trapped under tons of snow! Good girl!
Apart from that we thought she was a bit on the retarded side - although she was run over by a snow mobile two years ago, so maybe that didn't help.
She was very endearing but she would spend literally hours gazing at the old cow bell hanging on the wall - just in case said bell was stupid enough to make a break for it!!!

Advokat Hermansen
Ah, this man has quite a story.....
His name was Peder Gunvald Hermansen, born in 1910 in Oslo.
He grew up to become a lawyer (= "advokat" in norse), but things didn't go that well for him.
He wasn't able to adjust to "regular life", in all its conformity. He didn't want to, either.
He ended up in the sanitarium Dikemark, and spent a few years there.
When he got out, he refused to go back to his regular job as a lawyer.
Instead he started dressing up in different costumes, while walking up and down Karl Johans gate, the main parade street in Oslo.
Some days dressed up as a russian warrior from the 16th century, the next day as a british lord or a clown escaped from a circus.
He kept preaching about how culture separated itself and people from nature.
Everyone knew Hermansen - the kids where scared of him, but most people looked upon him as a true original. He loved to stop and talk to poeple about art, nature and life in general.
There were no one like him in Oslo.
He was a man that stood up against all rules and regulations about "how to act" and "how to be". He answered to only one - himself.
As many poeple say, today there's no room for "city originals" like Advokat Hermansen.
In our society, everyone is afraid of being original and standing out in a crowd.
Hermansen wasn't.
I hope you're up there somewhere, looking down on us!
The citizens of Oslo will never forget you.

LAWYER CLEARED IN RENT BOY QUIZ
Aid chief keeps job
Daily Record 15/08/2009
By Paul Thornton
A LEGAL Aid boss, who was arrested in a toilet with a rent boy, has kept his job and won't be struck off as a lawyer.
Douglas Haggarty, 58, was found with the teenager by security guards in British Home Stores in the St Enoch Centre, Glasgow, in January.
The head of legal services at the Scottish Legal Aid Board, where his duties include lecturing lawyers on their conduct, was charged with soliciting in a public place.
But his lawyer, Paul McBride, QC, claimed there was not enough evidence and charges were dropped.
The Crown Office said Haggarty had been dealt with by a direct measure but would not say whether it was a warning letter, fine or other penalty.
Now the Law Society of Scotland have revealed he will face no professional sanctions.
The high-flying lawyer, who lives in Glasgow's Merchant City, went off sick from work after the incident but is understood to have been back for several months.
A Law Society spokesman said: "The society's client care committee took account of the fiscal's decision and reasons for it."
A SLAB spokesman said: "It would be inappropriate for the board to comment on a matter personal to a member of staff."
Charges against the teenager were also dropped.

Soap Works St Philips Marsh Bristol
History of soap-making in Bristol from the Middle Ages, concentrating on the business of Christopher Thomas & Bros from 1745 to the take-over of the makers of Puritan soap by Lever Bros and final closure of the Broad Plain factory in the 1950s.
The area of St Philip’s Marsh, on the east side of the river Avon, is important as the focus of early industrialisation from at least the early 18th century. Glassworks, for example, were established in Cheese Lane from the end of the 17th century and several large industrial concerns, such as the Broad Plain Soap Works, were set up here from the late 18th century.
Soap was manufactured in Bristol for many centuries. Richard Alkyne (died 1567), George Martyn (died 1589) and William Bitfeilde (died 1591) were all designated soapmakers in their wills. and a soapmaker named Robert Rogers was mayor in 1621.
Christopher James Thomas was not a Bristolian, however, being born in Llangadog, Carmarthen in 1807 . His father Thomas Thomas came to Bristol and in 1825 opened a soap manufactory in Red Lion Yard off Thomas Lane with his brother in law a Mr Jones..
The soap was originally made without the aid of machinery. Christopher Thomas entered the business of Thomas & Jones a few years later and in 1841 the long-established Bristol soap firm of Fripp & Co (established 1745) amalgamated with Thomas's. This explains why the advertisements state 'established 1745'
The manufactory was now at Broad Plain and after both Thomas Thomas and Edward Fripp retired, the company was run by Christopher Thomas and his three brothers., Thomas jnr, Herbert and Charles. In the 1851 census Mr Thomas and described himself as Widower 75 Retired Soap Manufacturer.
A description of 1890 states that' a man who has too keen a scent for smells above the ordinary ought never to visit a soap works'. and 'I now know what sort of constituent I have long gazed on but never been able to see through , from the unpleasant smelling proximity of Bristol Bridge'. For the main ingredients of .soap were tallow and caustic soda. The addition of perfume, disinfectant or alcohol and a milling process varied the scent and appearance of the basic mix.
As well as soap the Broad Plain works manufactured candles, which also used tallow as a major ingredient. The candle manufacturing area of the plant was known as Rotten Row.. Here was 'a never to be forgotten or removed-from memory... to linger here is unpleasant.'
One of the ingredients used in making the soap was 'glycerine leys' and this used to be drained away as a waste-product, until the invention of dynamite, when the glycerine suddenly became a valuable commodity. No longer thrown away it went on from the soap works to provide further income. As gas and electricity were installed in homes, so this part of the business declined, as can be seen by many 1935 advertisements..

The Hijra Factor
I have been shooting Hijdas or the Indian transgender from 2005 ..
I have studied them from afar , I have watched them at Ajmer and at Haji Malang.
I discovered a home truth , the modern youth is disillusioned with the fairer sex, mind you I am not glorifying hijda sex, I am talking about the youth and his craving for hijra companionship.
The most beautiful guys, hunks, studs come to Haji Malang to connect with the Hijras , the hijras play to the galleries and are crazy about the attention they get.. at Haji Malang there is hijra love in the air..it is infectious touches the core of a young guys attention..
I am not a psychiatrist , or a mind reader but as a poet I am sensitive to the hidden layers of hijra love.
I have seen guys going head over heels on hijras, this time I saw older men, rich , loaded lavishing huge amounts on the hijras , and it was no aberration, everything appeared normal..
Kids thronged behind the hijras, Haji Malang does not sleep, the hijras are stalked, a game continues between the hunter and the prey.
I dont know if having a hijra lover is a new thing but it seems to add adventure to romance.. androgynous overtures of a an unusual kind.
The hijra is incomplete as man and as woman, but she plays the role of a languishing woman, she plays it to the hilt.. and the sucker is taken in hook line and sinker ..I am not belittling the life of a hijra, I am showing you the law of survival at work..
The hijra hates old age period, an age of neglect no children to bind a failed marriage either ..so the hijra craves for wealth, grabbing it before the wrinkles and the balding begins..botox is for the rich hijra ..
Hijras have more security today than a normal person, they have landed property , benami business and they support their brethren..
They have a cohesive arrangement with their kind, a system that puts the Sigma 6 Dabbawalas at lowest step of the ladder..in terms of organizational skills ..and networking without internet wires.. they know where a hijra child is born and rush to claim him from the parents..
The Metrosexual hijda , the Alpha hijra has arrived ..
That is one of the reasons the Hijra seniors do not want to be assimilated into the main stream..they do not want photographers capturing their rituals on film, they want remain reclusive and away from prying eyes.
The Hijras are over sensitive they can read your intentions before even you bring them up in your mind..
I am not sexually enamored by hijras , but I like a learned hijra, Laxmi is learned intelligent witty, but she measures her words on a weighing scale ,,, the hijras fear her, she has gone a step ahead into a larger global arena..
No I see many closeted educated homosexuals fed up of the stigma , the disgrace forced marriages openly joining the ethnicity of the hijra..
The Hijra factor is no more an anomalous thought it is real, its overcoming change , staying close to its roots but also going a few steps forward.
Hijra means compliance to ancient laws , no rebellion, but respect for the guru, and I can boldly say it is only in hijra society , that the tenets of Guru Parampara have flourished with success..
The discipline , the morality ,the codification, all unwritten but followed with a binding..
You are either a Hijra or you are neither a man or woman..
Maybe I write this in haste but being a disciple of a Hijra Guru made me see the beauty in a life that people term with hijra ugliness ..
Ugliness is a vital part of universal society provided you can ,make it work for you.
Now I will give you an example with photographic proof, at Haji Malang women children thronged to have Laxmi Narayan Tripathis autograph, those that did not have paper took her autograph on their palms.. yes she is on par with Salman Khan for the poor man who is hooked to Indian reality shows.
This show of Salman made Heena Hijra into a super star of Peela House the Mumbai Cages.
Yes the Hijra has become a celebrity too, I know of Hijras if they were given the female lead in Bollywood even the hero would not know the difference..this I say with a challenge ..see my pictures you can decide for yourself..
I have shot hijras with the strength of my spiritual conviction ..without any bias..
I shot a human a tortured human soul in a captive human body - being a human myself..
Why Are People Against Hijras? Beats Me !
Kamini Hijra, Khushi and their Guru Poonamji were guests of Laxmi Narayan Tripathi during the Haji Malang Urus , one of the finest lot of Hijdas I have ever met, courteous polite , humble educated and totally a cut above class.
Poonamji has lived among the Shias and told me a lot of tales of their devotion..in Kolkatta.
So I do not see why people are biased against Hijras , this is their life they live it on their terms without being a burden on society, society is totally against them including the draconian law Article 377.
I respect the Hijras as a integral part of Indian society with their own ethnicity, culture and colorful history.
I know of Hijras who have adopted poor kids had them educated and got them married too, I know Hijras who pay for the old folks languishing in Old Age Homes driven out by their own kith and kin..
I show you the Hijras from absolutely close , as human beings and as devout believers of all religions.
They touch the bounty of Kwajah Gharib Nawaz , they touch the bounty of Haji Malang, with this spiritual attitude they touch me too..I dont get money for shooting these people , actually even the Hijras gang up against me for shooting them, but I do it as a service to society , to the Hijras and to my Hijra Guru Laxmi Narayan Tripathi..
What hurts me is the attitude of educated people , who have a dislike for Hijras that borders on a psychopathic hate , whether you are a Hindu Muslim or a Shia like me, who gives you a right to comment adversely about the Hijras on my photo stream , all your education is zilch.
Please read my profile before you read me through my pictures, and be human before you pass judgment on the hijras or me..
I wish there was Comment Moderation at Flickr so I would not have to block people , but than anyone can join Flickr without a proper profile , without a proper avatar, a bogus identity, , add me as their friend , and they could be any one child molesters . pedophiles, I am on their profile one sided , its quite crazy, its time Flickr management put their house in order before they try to be one up on Facebook.. head count is not everything ..
A blogger friendly attitude is more important than having billion members at Flickr ..
Picture of Kamini Hijda , the most polished Hijra I have ever met in all my life...that she has a body to match her brains , decorum and womanly charm, , her deportment is a plus and she would put a Bollywood nymphet to shame.
She is seductive but there is no human cure for that..

Wisconsin Pro-Workers Rally

Madison, Wisconsin
The rally/protest at the Capitol Building today.
Blindfolded "Forward."
The outside Lady Forward is a copy of the original statue. The lady on top of the Captiol is "Wisconsin." This was in the morning, with the sun in completely the wrong side of the statue. I did remember to go back later in the day.

The rally/protest at the Capitol Building today.
The crowd from our vantage point just as the morning rally was ending. Not the panorama stitching, but at the time, I was thinking of a series of photos next to each other, and that was just going to be to large of a file to work with tonight.

Funny how some are sure to see a few kids who were just along for the ride, and assume all kids are like that. Many teens do observe the world around them and care to make a difference.
