Alto Reed audience at Pride
Alto Reed, sax player for Bob Seger, at Pride Mountain Vineyards today. He walked in to the cave where we were hanging out with our friend, the director of sales, and introduced himself. He then proceeded to whip out his sax, and started whaling away! He's damned good, too, so it was a pleasure to hear him checking out the acoustics.
This is the audience that rather quickly developed for the impromptu 10 minute serenade.
Turns out that Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band are playing at Oakland Coliseum on Wednesday.

Lifetime Dream # 71 of my list of 155: I will learn to perform the song “Trademark” by Eric Johnson. I will learn the signature styles of the guitar genius, and learn to mimic his abilities as best as possible.
I was so close to learning this song at one point… I once locked myself up in a warehouse with the guitar, an amp, the tablature, and a lot the blues. This song has such a wonderful and blues tone to it, yet it is upbeat and bright. I came so close to learning it, but allowed it to fade away… hopefully soon I will be able to get those chops back and hammer this song out!
(Ti amo)

FIVE TYPES OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS : OF MUSICAL INSTRUME
Five types of musical instruments : Love songs for classical guitar
Five Types Of Musical Instruments
- , occasionally called Legend of Zelda or Zelda, is a high fantasy action-adventure video game series created by Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. It was developed and published by Nintendo, with some portable installments outsourced to Flagship/Capcom and Vanpool.
- To see musical instruments, denotes anticipated pleasures. If they are broken, the pleasure will be marred by uncongenial companionship. For a young woman, this dream foretells for her the power to make her life what she will.
- (musical instrument) any of various devices or contrivances that can be used to produce musical tones or sounds

The Chinese Dragon
The Chinese Dragon
Most of us are all to familiar with the classic western concept of the dragon, but not all have a great insight into probably one of the most recognised dragons, the Chinese dragon.
In Chinese mythology there are five types of dragon:-
1. Those guarding the gods and emperors
2. Those controlling the wind and rain
3. Earthly dragons which deepened the rivers and seas
4. Guardians of hidden treasure
5. The first dragon
The First dragon appeared to the mythical emperor Fu-hsi, and filled the hole in the sky made by the monster Kung Kung. Its waking, sleeping and breathing determined day and night. Season and weather.
There are many differences between the classical dragon and the Chinese dragon, these include the ability to fly even without wings, shape-shifting abilities, and of course the general benevolent behaviour to the populace.
The Chinese dragon is made up of nine entities. The head of camel, the eyes of a demon, the ears of a cow, the horns of a stag, the neck of a snake, it's belly a clam's, it's claws that of an eagle, while the soles of his feet are that of a tiger, and the 117 scales that cover it's body are that of a carp.
The Chinese dragon has four claws as standard, but the Imperial dragon has five, this is to identify it above the lesser classes. Anyone other than the emperor using the 5 claw motif was put to death.
The Chinese dragon (Lung) was a divine bringer of rain, necessary for the good of the people. Throughout Chinese history the dragon has been equated with weather. It is said that some of the worst floodings were caused when a mortal has upset a dragon. The dragon was also a symbol of the emperor whose wisdom and divine power assured the well-being of his subjects. Many legends draw connections between the dragon and the emperor. Some emperors claimed to have descended from the dragon.
Chinese dragons of myth could make themselves as large as the universe or as small as a silkworm. They could also change color and disappear in a flash. They rise to the skies in the spring and plunge into the waters in the autumn.
Ancient China Dragon occupies a very important position in Chinese mythology. It shows up in arts, literature, poetry, architecture, songs, and many aspects of the Chinese conscience. The origin of Chinese dragons is unknown, but certainly pre-dates the written history.
Nine Dragon Wall A very popular tourist site in Beijing is this Nine-Dragon Wall in BaiHai Park. After hundreds of years, the colours of the ceramic tiles are just as brilliant. The wall was built in 1756. It is 21m long, about 15m high and i.2m thick. It is faced with 424 7-colour ceramic tiles. At the centre of the wall, there is a giant dragon, flanged by four dragons on each side. In addition to these nine large dragons, the wall is covered from edge to edge with many smaller dragons. In all, there are 635 dragons.
According to legend the Dragon had nine sons, and each had a strong personality. There is no general agreement as to what the Dragon's sons are called. However, to most people, they are:
1.Haoxian A reckless and adventurous dragon whose image can be found decorating the eaves of palaces. 2.Yazi Valiant and bellicose; his image is seen on sword-hilts and knife hilts. 3.Chiwen Chiwen likes to gaze into the distance and his appearance is often carved on pinnacles. 4.Baxia Baxia is a good swimmer and his image decorates many bridge piers and archways. 5.Pulao Pulao is fond of roaring and his figure is carved on bells. 6.Bixi Bixi is an excellent pack-animal whose image appears on panniers. 7.Qiuniu Qiuniu loves music and his figure is a common decoration on the bridge of stringed musical instruments. 8.Suanmi Suanmi is fond of smoke and fire; his likeness can be seen on the legs of incense-burners. 9.Jiaotu Jiaotu is as tight-lipped as a mussel or a snail. His image is carved on doors.
Awakening the Dragon by Shelagh Pierce
The Chinese dragon boat races will always be a symbol of Chinese culture and spirit. As one of the three largest Chinese festivals of the year, this mythical celebration can now be witnessed around the world. To experience a dragon boat race - either watching or participating - is a thrill in itself and can be enjoyed by everyone.
You'll watch as long, multicoloured boats, with frightening dragons' heads, long tails, and scaly bodies, splash through the water. You'll see men, women, and children grunt and sweat as they push themselves harder and faster to be the first to the finish line. You'll hear the crowds screaming and cheering for their favourite team, while the drummers pound on their drums and yell at the paddlers. The event is not intended to be quiet and peaceful but loud and exciting - a celebration!
To observe the Chinese dragon boat races of today, you can only dream of its meagre beginnings. A time when superstition determined how a person lived. In fact, dragon boat racing began more than 2000 years ago when a g

MANDOLIN SCALE LENGTH : GIARDINELLI GTR 512 PROFESSIONAL TRUMPET.
Mandolin Scale Length
- In a string instrument, the scale length (often simply called the "scale") is the sounding length of the strings. On instruments with strings which are not stopped (harp, piano) and on most fretless instruments it is the length of string between the nut and the bridge.
- Length of the vibrating string from nut to saddle or twice the distance from the nut to the 12th fret.
- The Scale Length of a guitar is measured from bridge to the nut on the neck. To be more precise the measurement is taken at the bridge at the saddle. The usual scale lengths are around 24.75 inches for most Gibson Les Pauls and 25.5 inches for Fenders, but this can widely vary.
- A mandolin (mandolino) is a musical instrument in the lute family (plucked, or strummed). It descends from the mandore, a soprano member of the lute family.

- Tablature (or tabulature, or tab for short) is a form of musical notation indicating instrument fingering rather than musical pitches.
- "Free Fallin'" is the opening track from Tom Petty's 1989 solo album, Full Moon Fever. The song was written by Petty and his writing partner for the album, Jeff Lynne (and also features Lynne on backing vocals).
Free Falling
Matisyahu did a Q&A along with his singing. One girl asked him if he had tried North Carolina BBQ. His response: There's two things wrong with that. One, I'm a Hasidic Jew. Two, I'm a vegan.
The girl took it in stride and said it was really tasty anyway (and may have suggested that he try it anyway.) Something tells me that maybe someone told her to ask him that.
What this clip related to is where people asked Matis about some of his inspirations. Tom Petty was one, so they asked if he could sing a bit of his stuff. So here's a short clip of Tom Petty's Free Fallin'.

Dennis Lane - Somerset, KY
"For those familiar with the excellent quality of the teaching products of Mr. Conti and the Pinnacle Production Group, it will come as no surprise that the Conti Guitar maintains that very high standard for quality and affordability. In times of a tight economy every dollar counts, and this beautiful guitar is a great value – beautifully made, excellent shipping and follow-up from Mr. Conti’s associates, beautiful to hold and play. I am extremely happy with mine and I am a rank beginner, but this instrument exceeds all my expectations and will be with me as long as I can fret chords with one hand and pick strings with the other. Thank you Mr. Conti for making this guitar available at such a reasonable cost and for your dedication to teaching the skills and joy of jazz guitar."
The "Slow Jam" in Winlock. Better known as "Adventures in G, C & D Chords"
This, here was a once in a lifetime odd experience. It was at a small "hall" in a tiny town, where a bunch of beginner musicians gathered to play for HOURS, the same three chords, while a few lead musicians played bluegrass melodies. It was really fun & funny at first, then about an hour into it, it felt like I was trapped in a Christopher Guest movie, and couldn't get out. It went on for 3 hours!

From Wikipedia;
Christa Päffgen (October 16, 1938? – July 18, 1988) was a German singer-songwriter, fashion model, actress, keyboard player and a Warhol Superstar, best known by her pseudonym Nico.
As a musician, she is remembered for both her time in The Velvet Underground and her solo work.
Nico made her early fame as a model. After leaving school at 13, she started selling lingerie and soon was spotted by fashion insiders. A year later, her mother found her work as a model in Berlin.
While on a modeling assignment in Ibiza, she met the photographer Herbert Tobias, who christened her "Nico" after his ex-boyfriend, filmmaker Nico Papatakis. She soon moved to Paris and worked for Vogue, Tempo, Vie Nuove, Mascotte Spettacolo, Camera, Elle, and other fashion magazines in the late 1950s.
She also claimed to have been briefly hired by Coco Chanel. Despite having dropped out of school at an early age, Nico eventually became fluent in English, Italian, Spanish, and French.
After appearing in several television commercials, Nico landed a small role in Alberto Lattuada's film La Tempesta (1958), and then appeared in Rudolph Maté's For the First Time with Mario Lanza later that year.
In 1959, she was invited to the set of Federico Fellini's La dolce vita and attracted the attention of the acclaimed director, who gave her a minor role in the film. By this time, she had moved to New York to take acting classes under the guidance of Lee Strasberg.
After splitting her time between New York and Paris, she landed the lead role in Jacques Poitrenaud's Strip-Tease (1963). She recorded the title track, which was produced by Serge Gainsbourg but not released until 2001, when it was included on CD as part of the French compilation Le Cinéma de Serge Gainsbourg.
During this period she gave birth to a son, Ari (born 1962), who was fathered by French actor Alain Delon. Although the child was raised mostly by Delon's parents, Delon always denied his paternity.
In 1965, Nico met The Rolling Stones' founder and guitarist, Brian Jones, and recorded her first single, "I'm Not Sayin'" for Andrew Loog Oldham's Immediate label.
Actor Ben Carruthers introduced her to Bob Dylan in Paris that summer. It is said that Dylan wrote the song "I'll Keep It With Mine" for her shortly afterwards.
After being introduced by Bob Dylan, she began working with Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey on their experimental films, including Chelsea Girls, The Closet, Sunset, and Imitation of Christ.
While appearing in Warhol's films, Nico was introduced to The Velvet Underground, at that time the backup group for Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable, a multimedia performance featuring film, music, lights and dancers. She soon began to work with the Velvet Underground, singing lead vocals on three songs ("Femme Fatale", "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "I'll Be Your Mirror") and backing vocals on another ("Sunday Morning") on their debut LP, The Velvet Underground and Nico.
Released in 1967, the album became influential and lauded within rock music and art circles. Nico had a short-lived romantic relationship with the main singer and songwriter, Lou Reed. Around this era, she was also romantically involved with prominent musicians including John Cale (also from The Velvet Underground), Jim Morrison of The Doors, Jackson Browne, Brian Jones, Tim Buckley and Iggy Pop.
Shortly after the Exploding Plastic Inevitable tour drew to a close in early 1967, Nico and The Velvet Underground parted ways. The exact reasons for her departure have not been made public, though both Reed and former Velvet Underground bassist John C

THE BEAST FROM THE SEA - A NEW WORLD EMPIRE
Revelation 13:1-10, "And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If any man have an ear, let him hear. He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints."
It is a popular but erroneous notion to name the beast from the sea the Antichrist. John, who was the only one to use the term "antichrist" in scripture, did not himself use the term to describe the beast from the sea. Antichrist means against Christ. Referring to false teachers, John states, "Even now are there many antichrists." (1 John 2:18, 22; 4:3; 2 John 1:7) Indeed the beast from the sea is "against Christ", but lets look at the bigger picture.
An antichrist can be anyone. If you walk out onto a busy city street you are probably surrounded by antichrists. A person in your class or even a loved one or family member can be an antichrist.
Let's take a look at the characteristics of an antichrist.
In 1 John 2:18 John states that there are many. John goes on to say in verse 22 that he who denies that Jesus is Messiah (Christ) is the antichrist and that anyone who denies that there are a Father and a Son is the antichrist.
1 John 4:3 states that if you do not believe that Jesus was an actual flesh and blood person you are an antichrist. John goes on to reinforce this in 2 John 1:7 by stating that people who do not confess that Jesus came in the flesh are deceivers as well.
If we consider our own friends and acquaintances we should all know at least one antichrist. Society and the church have distanced themselves from the concept that there are many antichrists by attributing the term to only one person in the distant future. This is much more palatable than believing that perhaps your best friend, sister, brother, mother or father could be an antichrist.
Society at large always tends to "lay blame" as opposed to "taking responsibility" for what they have allowed. Some examples of this are as follows. Jesus was killed and society blamed Judas Iscariot. World War Two sweeps over the world and society blames Hitler. The Vietnam War is blamed on politicians. The amount of sex and violence in our society today is blamed on actors and directors in Hollywood. Our illegal drug problem is blamed on drug dealers.
Even though the persons mentioned here, Judas Iscariot, Hitler, Politicians, actors, directors and drug dealers are culpable and liable for much evil: they are but scapegoats. The true blame for these atrocities lies squarely on the shoulders of the societies that stand by and allow the atrocities happen.
It was the people of Jesus' time who were yelling "Crucify Him!" It was the people of Germany who elected Hitler to power. The people of America elected the politicians who paved the way for the Vietnam War. It is the people of the world that pay for the movies and television shows that have eroded our moral balance. Finally, if there were no market for illegal drugs there would be no drug dealers.
This is what has happened with the teachings of the antichrist. Society has created a fictional villain to lay the blame on. They have forgotten that it is society who has laid the groundwork for such villains to come to the surface. It is the spirit of the antichrist resident within society today, which is the real villain.
Now before we go on let us take a few minutes to discuss prophetic symbolism. One of the keys to understanding prophecy is to understand the symbols used in prophetic utterances. For example, when a "beast" is mentioned in prophecy it is usually in reference to a kingdom, a nation or a New World Order. When a &qu
Day 32 - Jamie Cullum & The Best Concert Ever
Day 32 - July 21, 2010
So, Wednesday I finally got my 24mm, and it was such a relief to know I wouldn't have to do another shoot with that terrible 50mm again. Unfortunately, I couldn't buy my new 24mm at any of the nearby Samy's locations since they were out of stock. So, I went to another well-rated camera shop called Simon's. I ended up paying $70 more than if I had ordered the lens on amazon, but I couldn't afford to wait until next Thursday to have it, which is the estimate amazon gave me.
But enough of the 24mm - Wednesday was the best concert of my entire life - JAMIE CULLUM!!! The venue, The Ford Amphitheatre, didn't allow photography, although that didn't stop a lot of people from bringing their point and shoots. But, honestly, I was okay not taking any photographs so I could just enjoy the concert…..
Jamie had complete control over the crowd, whipping us into hysterics and then quieting us down to a whisper. In fact, for his opening song, he and his band came out and performed the jazz standard Caravan without any microphones, completely acoustic. And Jamie ended the concert almost the very same way, almost silently performing his gorgeous song "Gran Torino," just him and the piano. The concert would go anywhere from cool jazz, to complete almost-rock abandon, to total musical and lyrical blues improv, to humor (Jamie's American accent made me want to double over laughing), and beyond. And not only was Jamie in top form, playing some of the most difficult piano improvisations I've heard live, but his band was also teeming with talent. For instance, the keyboardist, Tom, played keys and synths as well as saxophone. And the electric guitarist also doubled as a trumpet player.
But most importantly, for me, the concert really solidified my longing to be a jazz musician. When I left that concert, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I wanted to play piano and perform like Jamie. And with Berklee growing closer and the thought of being around so many talented musicians far more gifted than I am, well, I really needed that. I really needed this concert to remind me that it doesn't matter how long it takes me to get there, and it is going to take a long time before I'm proficient at jazz, eventually, with passion and dedication, I can get there. Eventually, I will be playing jazz, and I'll be capable of improving with a band, just like Jamie. Well, okay, maybe not just like Jamie, but you get the idea.
I guess I just needed to feel that rush again, that ecstasy over hearing a great concert, to remind myself to stop worrying about my placement audition in September and how much I haven't had time to practice during my internship….. Instead, at least for a few hours, I just enjoyed myself…. I was taken away by the music. And afterwards, I was as equally pumped and anxious to kick my practicing time into high gear as I was elated just to listen and enjoy Jamie play.
And that's why it was the best concert. And everything I needed.
- "L.E."
