AIRFARE TO FLORIDA : TO FLORIDA
Airfare to florida : Cheap airlines to las vegas. Airfare To Florida
United States Steamship Co. American Waterfront Tokyo DisneySea I hope the fact that there's a damn steamship in this park speaks for itself. A steamship! A steamship with a wonderful restaurant. A steamship with my favorite bar on Disney property in the entire world. You need to see this for yourself. So let's talk about doing that. Yes, you, visiting the Tokyo Disneyland Resort. One reason, if not the biggest reason, Disney Parks fans don't consider a trip to the Tokyo Disney Resort is cost. Everybody knows a trip to Tokyo is astronomically more expensive than a trip to Orlando. But Is this actually true? Well, yes and no. I compared a 6 night stay at Tokyo to a 6 night stay at WDW for some random dates in September. I assumed flying out of LAX (which is where I happen to live) Florida (6 nights): $2700 • Booked as package via Disney website • Wilderness Lodge • 7 day base park ticket • Delta flight Tokyo (6 nights): $2827 • Flight: $935 (United) • Hotel: $1562 (Sheraton Grande, Disney resort official hotel) • Park tickets (6 days): 330 Comparing these two trips, Tokyo is only $127 more than the trip to Walt Disney World. Not much more expensive at all! How is that possible? The trick is that Tokyo isn't necessarily more expensive than a trip to Florida for most Americans, it's just that a trip to Tokyo can't be done as cheaply as a trip to Florida. There's a big difference there. If your conception of WDW is discount airfare, quick service meals, and value resorts, then Tokyo will have a bit of sticker shock. However, If your conception of WDW is deluxe resorts and some table service meals, a trip to Tokyo Disneyland Resort is only going to sting slightly more than usual. There's obviously many details hidden in this simplistic comparison (free dining plan offers, airport transportation expense, variation depending on what airport you're leaving from, etc.) but the general idea is that Tokyo Disney is not necessarily more expensive than a trip to Walt Disney World. In fact, it can be pretty comparable to a mid-range deluxe WDW visit. If thinking about it that way helps reduce the mental barrier, then I've done my job. Note: I have no clue how this works out financially for DVC members. I'm sure Tokyo is a less efficient use of points, but how badly I couldn't say. Here's One for the Disneyland Fans! Walt Disney World's Castle looks more like the one out West in this one! Okay, a bit of a cheap shot. Just as I don't buy into the Canon v. Nikon debate, I'm not one of the diehard defenders of WDW over DLR. We're taking our first-ever trip to DLR in August, and we're quite excited to experience everything out there. I'm a little worried that we might like it more (I don't expect this, but I'm worried nonetheless), as airfare and accommodations are significantly more expensive (at least in my limited experience) for us to get out there! My apologies about the lack of comments lately. We've been extremely busy, and the moments I have been able to "steal" for Disney-related things have gone towards photo-editing and posting. I will be back in "full force" in early August. I really appreciate the views, comments, and faves that you all have made to my photos despite me having neglected yours for...well, a while now. Stuck at the Austin Airport Last Saturday somewhat sucked. Upon check in I learned that my 5pm flight was delayed until 6pm. No big deal. However, at a bit before 6pm, it was delayed until 7pm. And then delayed until 8pm. And then around 7:30 the information for the flight just vanished off the screens. UAL.com was still showing an on-time departure at 5pm. Anyway, the Austin airport was pretty much empty - there were just 7 of us for this flight + the 4 flight crew. I thought for sure the flight would be cancelled but at 8pm a flight attendent yelled out for everyone to board. We sat on the plane for a bit and then we headed off to Chicago. When we landed, they didn't have a gate for us - after awhile we pulled to the gate but there was no one there to move the jet bridge. The captain ended up opening the door, climbing down, and guiding us to the gate entrance. Weather was gorgeous in Austin but somewhat bad in Chicago. airport flight guide The SC Flight Guide provides coverage, detail, frequencies, & supplementary info for: AR, KS, LA, MS, MO, OK, TX Contains airport diagrams, radio frequencies, lighting, arrival/departure info, general ops info & noise abatement, radio nav aids w/lat & longitude Graphics for class B & C airspace, TRSA & selected D areas, airspace rules & definitions FBOs: location, phone, fuel, services & parking Food, transportation & lodging: distance from airport, discounts & free pick-up Recreational activities Phone #s: FAA, NWS, airports, FBOs, hotels, & car rental With Flight Guide you have a graphic representation of the field for reference, with Traffic-Pattern altitude, Tower, CTAF & other frequencies. The value and usage of ticket flexibility for short haul business travellers [An article from: Journal of Air Transport Management] This digital document is a journal article from Journal of Air Transport Management, published by Elsevier in . The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser. Description: Fully flexible business class and ''full economy'' airline tickets are aimed at meeting the needs of business travellers whose travel requirements may change after a ticket is purchased. The provision of these products has implications for airlines' revenue management systems, which may lead to overbooking and denied boarding. Low-cost carriers have developed a method by which tickets can be changed only when required. This paper investigates the usage and value of ticket flexibility by business travellers as the popularity of high fare-fully flexible tickets has fallen in recent years. A survey of 284 business travellers showed that business travellers change their flight arrangements in only 32% of short haul trips. A stated preference study investigated the likelihood of respondents to change tickets in three hypothetical scenarios. The results indicate that to extend a business trip for business purposes travellers are confident that their company will bear the cost of changing a ticket valuing additional time at about @$54 per hour but that the value of personal time when travelling is fairly low at @$15 per hour. The study concludes that business travellers do not need to change their tickets often and that when they do, low-cost carriers offer a more cost-efficient method of providing ticket flexibility. This pay-for-usage approach to ticket flexibility undermines the traditional airlines' pricing structures and this has contributed to the reduced, relative value of business class and full economy class tickets for short haul air travel. (10) No additional cost! After entering my payment info at nwa.com, I was greeted by this block of text, centered on a sea of white. 1) I didn't ask to be activated in Verified by Visa. 2) If I want my plane tickets, I can't bypass this. 3) I don't need yet another password to do credit card transactions with (that's what my card number and security code are for -- and if they're so vulnerable, what makes yet another code so special?) 4) This page feels very "phishy," looking nothing at all like the web site I was on. 5) I really needed the card expiration field obfuscated by bullets? My zip code? The next day, I made a software purchase through kagi.com. They said that if I was in the Verified by Visa program, I might be asked for a password. I wasn't. Grounded While waiting for the flight out of Baltimore, Maryland (BWI) I thought I'd snap a few handheld, multi-exposure shots. This set was of the plane I was scheduled to be leaving on. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the flight was delayed and reassigned. We ended up having to move to another gate. Thus "Grounded". I know it's not a colorful vista or some majestic architectural wonder, but shiny metal, glass, rivets and reflections I find personally interesting. If you are as strange as I am, I hope you enjoy. If not, hopefully I'll have something more to your taste soon. :) Leaving DC for BWI I left the office around 1:00 for BWI. My flight was leaving around 3:00. Lisa thought I was in meetings all afternoon, so I had a good cover story. She was scheduled to meet Lindsay at the airport to pick her up at 6:15, Lindsay would then give her the tickets and instructions I had hidden in the Jeep. I gave everything about a 50/50 shot of going right, and even if it didn't-- it would at least make a good story. Postal code: 857 00 Area code: 22450 License code: ??, ??, PK Karpathos (Greek: ????????) is the second largest of the Greek Dodecanese islands, in the southeastern Aegean Sea. The island includes the municipality of Karpathos plus the community of Olympos. Part of Olympos also extends north to the neighboring Saria Island. From its remote position Karpathos has preserved many peculiarities of dress, customs and dialect, the last resembling those of Crete and Cyprus. The island has also been called Latin: Carpathus, Italian: Scarpanto, Turkish: Kerpe. Geography Olymbos, the traditional "Chora" of KarpathosThe island is located about 47 kilometers southwest of Rhodes, in the part of the Mediterranean which is called, after it, the Carpathian Sea (Latin: Carpathium Mare). Karpathos comprises 10 villages. All villages preserve intensively the traditional style of the island. In the southeast of the island you can find Pigadia (Officially: Karpathos City), capital and main port of the island. The capital is surrounded by the villages of Menetes, Arkasa, Aperi, Volada, Othos, and Pyles. In the North one can find Mesochori, Spoa and Olymbos the last village in the North of the island, of great folkloric and architectural interest. There are two ports in the island; one is in the town of Karpathos and the other in the north of the island next to Olympos named Diafani. [edit] History The building of the district administration of the island of Karpathos in PigadiaThe island was both in ancient and medieval times closely connected with Rhodes. Its current name is mentioned, with a slight shift of one letter, in Homer's Iliad as Krapathos (?? ?'??? ??????? ?'????? ???????? ?? ????? ??). Besides, the island is mentioned by Virgil, Pliny the Elder and Strabo. Karpathians fought with Sparta in the Peloponnesian War in 431 BC and lost their independence to Rhodes in 400 BC. In 42 BC the island fell to Rome. After the division of the roman Empire the island joined the Byzantine Empire. By 1304 Karpathos was given as fief by the Emperor to the Genoese corsairs Andrea and Lodovico Moresco, but in 1306 it fell under Andrea Cornaro, a member of the noble Venetian Cornaro family.[1] The Cornaro controlled Karpathos until 1538, when it finally passed into the possession of the Ottoman Turks. Under the Ottomans the island decayed deeply.[1] In the years 1821-22, during the Greek War of Independence, the island could free itself, but afterward it fell again under the Ottoman rule.[1] In 1835 Sultan Mahmud II conceded to the island the privilege of the Maktu tax system, that is its tax burden was calculated as an annual lump sum, and not on an household basis.[1] The Ottoman rule ended on May 12, 1912, when the Italians conquered the island, together with the whole Dodecanese, during the Italo-Turkish War of 1911-12. On that day sailors of the Regia Marina ship Vittorio Emanuele and the destroyer Alpino landed in Karpathos.[1] With the Treaty of Lausanne of 1923 Karpathos joined the other islands of the Dodecanese in the Italian possession of the Isole Italiane dell'Egeo,[1] and was ceded by Italy to Greece with the Paris Peace Treaties of 1947. The island formally joined the Greek State on 7 March 1948, together with the other Dodecanese islands. Despite such a scattered past, the last half century has been pivotal in the development of the island's character. A war-ravaged economy sent many a Karpathian to the U.S. eastern seaboard cities; Karpathos today has a significant Greek-American constituency who have returned to their beloved island and invested heavily. As a resu UNHCR News Story: Thousands of people flown home from Tunisia as evacuation begins UNHCR has been erecting tents at a new transit camp for those arriving at the border post of Ras Adjir. These provide shelter from the cold while they wait for onward transportation. UNHCR / A. Duclos / 28 February 2011 Thousands of people flown home from Tunisia as evacuation begins GENEVA, March 3 (UNHCR) – An operation to evacuate tens of thousands of people from the Tunisian border and fly them home was under way on Wednesday. Under a programme led by UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), more than 50 flights were planned on Thursday to take migrant workers, mostly Egyptians, back home. UNHCR flew home 177 people to Egypt on a first flight Wednesday evening. Egypt was organizing about 30 of the flights. France, Italy and the United Kingdom were all contributing to the airlift, while UNHCR and the IOM are both chartering flights. The Tunisian government had said on Wednesday that some 25,000 people at the border were in urgent need of onward transport. UN High Commissioner Antonio Guterres, describing the evacuation as a "logistics nightmare," told the British Broadcasting Corporation on Thursday. "Rich countries have brought home their nationals. Now it is time to help people from poor nations to return home." Since anti-government protests in Libya descended into violence in mid-February, more than 90,000 people are believed to have fled from western Libya into Tunisia and some 80,000 to Egypt. In the 24 hours up to 8am on Thursday, an estimated 9,000 people crossed into Tunisia. UNHCR staff at the border said the inflow was continuing on Thursday, but at a greatly reduced rate. It is not clear whether people were being prevented from leaving Libya. Most of the arrivals have been from Egypt in a country where some 1.5 million migrant workers were employed before the violent split in Libya. Although about three-quarters of the Egyptians have been repatriated, some 12,000 Egyptians remain in Tunisia. UNHCR staff have seen people from more than 20 other countries at the border, including more than 5,300 Bangladeshis who have crossed in the past 24 hours. . Guterres on Thursday reiterated his concern for people of concern to UNHCR inside Libya. More than 8,000 refugees and 3,000 asylum-seekers are registered with UNHCR in Libya, but the real figure is believed to be higher. The High Commissioner said UNHCR was talking to resettlement countries to try to find solutions for the refugees in Libya as well as those who had managed to flee the country, including civilians from Somalia and Eritrea. People from sub-Saharan Africa have been arrested in Libya because of rumours that they could be mercenaries. Meanwhile, UNHCR continues to move tents and other relief items to the border, where a tented camp has sprung up at a new transit centre established by the Tunisian authorities. At least 10,000 people stayed in the camp on Wednesday night. "We hope to double this capacity in the coming couple of days," said UNHCR spokesperson Sybella Wilkes in Geneva. On the other side of Libya, people have also been crossing to Egypt since the crisis erupted, but the scenes at the Libya-Egypt border are far more orderly. About 6,000 people crossed into Egypt at the Sallum border post on Wednesday, according to UNHCR staff. They included a large convoy of Egyptians who came from western Libya. UNHCR, with help from the military, distributed 400 food packages to people stranded at the border. UNHCR staff have heard several accounts from Tunisians and Egyptians that they feared being targetted in Libya. UNHCR is expected to launch a supplementary appeal later this week for US$18 million to fund its emergency response programme for Libya. charter flights to italy It s an undeniable fact that traveling to Italy is a dream for many women. (10) Flight 93 National Memorial On Sep 11, 2001, 44 passengers boarded United Airlines Flight 93 in Newark, NJ headed towards San Francisco, Ca. 40 minutes into the flight, 4 passanger got up and rushed the cockpit overtaking the plane. It was part of the terrorist attacks on the Unites States that day. 2 planes had gone into the World Trade Center in New York and another into the Pentagon outside Washington DC. They beleived this plane was aimed for the United States Capitol Building in Washington DC. When the plane crossed over Cleveland, Oh, it made a u-turn and started heading back east and crossing back into Pennsylvania. A few of the passengers, scared for their lives, made phone calls home and found out about the attacks. They told their loved ones they loved them, and then hung up the phone. The rest of the story is uncertain. They do know that the 40 other passengers took over the hijackers and took back the plane. With the pilots hurt, the crew was able to take over the plane and head it toward an open field in western Pennslvania in a town called Stoystown. All passengers died that day. They gave up their lives to save hundreds of others. The benches here at this memorial has the name of those 40 heroic passengers. The wall to the right has pictures, hats, and other keepsakes people had left. This is a temporary memorial. It is about 1000 yards from the crashsite but only the family of thos passengers can go down there. A perminant memorial closer to the crashsite is set to be opened in 2011. This memorial is ran by the National Park Service. Southwest Airlines Flight from HOBBY to JAX On Tuesday, I was up early to pack my things for Carl to drive me to the Houston (HOBBY) Airport. It was a miracle; we left his house around 8 AM. We arrived at the airport in about one hour. He dropped me off and drove south back to work. I had no problems getting my bag checked, going through Airport Security, and finding my gate. I was surprised to find that Southwest Airlines had 20 comfortable chairs with laptop tables, and electric and USB outlets. The flight back to Jacksonville was uneventful. After landing, I got my rolling, checked luggage; found the Economy Lot 1 shuttle bus which took me right to my car. With only one wrong turn, I was back on the expressway heading south, west, and then north. In a little over 2 hours, I was back home in Hahira. find airline flights Management lessons from the world's most profitable airline "If you want to understand how one organization can change the competitive rules of the game for an entire industry, read this book."--James L. Cuba: Photographs by Jeffrey Milstein The images contained in this book do more than mirror reality in Cuba. They offer an orientation to its complexities. They present glimpses that are factual, realistic, honest, mixed with a breath of lyricism and quotidian simplicity, capturing our attention and allowing us to see the unseen. They get us in touch with the depth of our own inwardness and expand our sympathies not only for the Cuban people but also for humanity. —Nilo Cruz Cuba is a rhythmic, colorful, sophisticated, and intimate view into this isolated island that has long existed in a state of paralysis, immobile in time. Photographer Jeffrey Milstein captures and delves deep into the beauty, soul, and the extremes of Cuba’s urban life, the character of its people, the atmosphere of the region, and the country’s visual attractions and landscape. The artful presentation and more than one hundred stunning photographs portray a story far more revealing and intimate than words can tell, rare views of Cubans at work and play will dispel any notion you might have that Cuba is a somber and depressing place, and will draw you into the history and the people that make Cuba our most fascinating neighbor. Our Lady of Bruges, Flanders (1150), where a lock of Our Lady’s hair is preserved Sea Fury 4 Type: Sea Fury FB Mk.II Serial #: WM483 Registry: N42SF Base: Jerome, ID The Hawker Sea Fury Carrier borne fighter-bomber was the British Fleet Air Arm's last piston-engined fighter, developed during WWII it did not see service with the Fleet Air Arm until after the war. It was arguably the fastest piston powered aircraft ever manufactured. It was a development from the Hawker Tempest, itself a development of the Hawker Typhoon. Originally, the Hawker Fury was designed by Sidney Camm in 1942 under F.2/43 specification, to provide the RAF with a lightweight replacement for the Tempest II. On 23 June, 1942, Luftwaffe Pilot Oberleutnant Arnim Faber erroneously landed his Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-3 fighter at RAF Pembrey, apparently having mistaken this airfield for a Luftwaffe channel coast airfield. The British were thereby presented with a working example of the Fw 190 fighter, which had been giving the RAF an extremely difficult time. The Hawker Fury design was a direct result of the examination of Faber's Fw 190A-3. Examination of Faber's aircraft was largely responsible for the preparation of Specification F.6/42, which called for a new, high-performance fighter. The design was modified in 1943 to meet a Royal Navy specification (N.7/43) for a carrier-based interceptor and named the Hawker Sea Fury. Hawker was designated to work on the land-based version, and responsibility for the naval conversion was assigned to Boulton-Paul Aircraft Ltd. of Wolverhampton. Early in 1944, a revised naval specification, N.22/43, supplanted N.7/43. and in April 1944 contracts were placed for 200 F.2/43 planes for the RAF and 200 N.22/43 planes for the Fleet Air Arm. The first Sea Fury prototype, SR661, flew on 21 February, 1945. It was powered by a Centaurus XII engine driving a four-bladed propeller. This airplane had a deck arrester hook under the rudder, but retained fixed wings. The second Sea Fury prototype, SR666, was powered by a Centaurus XV driving a five-bladed propeller and was a fully navalized aircraft with folding wings. The prototype Sea Fury SR661 was subsequently tested for its suitability as a naval fighter, and in deck landing trials, at the A&AEE Boscombe Down in May 1945. Tests were still underway as the Japanese surrendered in August 1945. With the end of the Second World War, the RAF cancelled all production contracts for the Fury, deciding to concentrate all of its future efforts on jet fighters. The Royal Navy reduced its order for Sea Furies to 100 aircraft, and canceled the Boulton-Paul contract in its entirety. The first production aircraft - a Mark 10 which was a carrier-based version, with folding wings- did not make its initial flight until September 1946. Although originally intended to serve with both the RAF and FAA, the RAF order was cancelled at the end of the war. The first deck trials with Sea Fury TF898 began aboard HMS Victorious during the winter of 1946-47. The Mark 10 was approved for carrier operations in Spring 1947, and five Fleet Air Arm squadrons were then equipped with the Sea Fury. The Mark 10 was followed by the Mark 11 fighter-bomber - 615 of these were eventually delivered to the Navy. It became the Fleet Air Arm's principal single-seat fighter and remained so until the introduction of the Sea Hawk jet fighter in 1953. The Sea Fury served throughout the Korean War, replacing the Seafire, which was not really built for carrier operations, being too fragile. The Sea Fury was used by the FAA, Canada, Holland, Australia, and other countries including the Iraq Air Force. A total of 75 Sea Furies served with the Royal Canadian Navy(R.C.N.) between 1948 and 1956. All flew from the Aircraft Carrier HMCS Magnificent in 871 squadron. Operators RAAF, RCAF, RAF, Netherlands, Cuba, Germany. Versions Mk.X 50 built, first production variant powered by Centaurus XV (fighter-bomber) FB.MK 11 First widespread variant, 615 built including 31 for the RAN and 53 for the RCN. T.Mk 20 60 trainers, 10 of which were later converted to target tugs for West Germany. African slaves, brought to work on the Spanish sugar plantations, soon outnumbered the European colonists. The attitude of the Spanish political and religious institutions towards African culture, while undeniably oppressive, was more open than in some other colonial societies. Catholic priests did their best to convert the Africans to Christianity, but they overlooked their worship of African deities as long as they gave them Christian names. In fact, santeria, a religion that combines Catholicism with African deities and rituals, is still a key part of Cuban spiritual life. Most of the songs on this collection are a style called son, (lit. "sound") one of the most popular and influential Cuban musical forms. Son developed around the turn of the century in Oriente, a region in eastern Cuba. Migrating musicians brought son west to Havana in the 1920s, where it exploded in popularity. The fundamental element of the son is a rhythmic pattern called clave (lit. "key"). Played on two wooden sticks, called claves, this repetitive beat is the foundation upon which all of the other musical elements are structured. It gives son the propulsive swing that has endeared it to people around the world. Most contemporary salsa is based on son. At once spicy hot and languorously sweet, Putumayo Presents Cuba is a passionate marriage of active and passive, masculine and feminine, a contemporary festival of sound whose roots were born in defiance of onerous distraction and oppression. Based on Afro-Cuban culture, whose music comes from a combination of European and African instrumentation, the songs in this collection swing with the energetic rhythms of traditional son (also the base of salsa). Layered over the repetitive beat, guitars chime, maracas add shimmy, and trumpets take the upper accent melody, often repeating or contrasting the main vocal melody. One of the finest contributions to the disc is Mi Son's "Mecanica de Amor," in which the band substitutes the violin for the lead trumpet, making a treat of the unexpected. Irakere's funky fusion "Boliviera" comes on gangbusters with beefy bass, full horn section, and featured flute melody. Containing superb liner notes, Putumayo Presents Cuba makes a fine introduction to this island's rich sound, and a superb remedy to the blues. --Paige La Grone See also: fly cheap to germany flight time from los angeles to fiji sell airline tickets flight time from hong kong to singapore free flight simulator x airplanes british flight tracker consolidators airfares southwest flight information nike air flights 89 |

(15) Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk 9x6 Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk Mission The RQ-4 Global Hawk is a high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aircraft system with an integrated sensor suite that provides intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, or ISR, capability worldwide. Global Hawk's mission is to provide a broad spectrum of ISR collection capability to support joint combatant forces in worldwide peacetime, contingency and wartime operations. The Global Hawk complements manned and space reconnaissance systems by providing near-real-time coverage using imagery intelligence or IMINT, sensors. Features Global Hawk offers a wide variety of employment options. The Global Hawk system consists of the RQ-4 aircraft with an integrated sensor suite, launch and recovery element, or LRE, mission control element, or MCE, sensors, communication equipment mission planning equipment, support element and trained personnel. The IMINT sensors include synthetic aperture radar, electro-optical and medium-wave infrared sensors. The Global Hawk will eventually carry the airborne signals intelligence payload. One version of Global Hawk will carry the Radar Technology Insertion Program active electronically scanned array radar. The LRE, located at the aircraft base with the aircraft, launches the aircraft until handoff to the MCE contains functions required to launch, recover and operate an aircraft while en route to or from the target area. The LRE contains one pilot station providing the capability to operate one aircraft with no sensor operations. The MCE controls the Global Hawk for the bulk of the ISR mission. Like the LRE, the MCE is manned by one pilot, but adds a sensor operator to the crew. Command and control data links enable complete dynamic control of the mission aircraft. The pilot workstations in the MCE and LRE are the control and display interface (cockpit) providing aircraft health and status, sensors status and a means to alter the navigational track of the aircraft. From this station, the pilot communicates with outside entities to coordinate the mission (air traffic control, airborne controllers, ground controllers, other ISR assets). The sensor operator workstation provides capability to dynamically update the collection plan in real time, initiate sensor calibration, and monitor sensor status. The sensor operator also assists the exploitation node with image quality control, target deck prioritization and scene tracking to ensure fluid operations. The system offers a wide variety of employment options. The long range and endurance allow tremendous flexibility in meeting mission requirements. Background Global Hawk began as an Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration in 1995. The system was determined to have military utility and provide warfighters with an evolutionary high-altitude, long-endurance ISR capability. While still a developmental system, the Global Hawk deployed operationally to support the global war on terrorism in November 2001. The Global Hawk UAS provides near-continuous all-weather, day/night, wide area surveillance and will eventually replace the U-2. In the RQ-4 name, the "R" is the Department of Defense designation for reconnaissance and "Q" means unmanned aircraft system. The "4" refers to the series of purpose-built remotely piloted aircraft systems. The Global Hawk is operated by the 12th Reconnaissance Squadron. The 1st RS provides formal training; both squadrons are located at Beale Air Force Base, Calif. (14) Check-in in the Bahamas NAS - Nassau Airport American Eagle ticket counter We look pissed. This check-in is taking for ever! The lady at the counter is telling us that we are on the Nassau to Miami flight, but we are not showing on the Miami to LAX leg. She is insisting we do NOT have reservations, even though we have all the paperwork and have checked in on line and everything was fine. My dad keeps asking for a supervisor and she won't call one. Finally one is called and in two seconds the supervisor says of course we have reservations from Miami to LAX. She has no idea why this agent couldn't pull up the information. The Nassau Airport sucks and we LOVE American put the ticket agents at the Nassau airport are really bad. Plus they were unfriendly. The plane crashes, and Buddy begins a downward spiral of alcoholism and self-loathing until he undergoes rehab. Once out, he decides to pay a visit to the dead man's widow. Abby Janello (Gwyneth Paltrow) is a struggling real estate agent with two young sons. She slowly befriends Buddy and falls in love with him while Buddy struggles with the guilty secret of his connection to her husband's untimely death which could destroy their relationship. Bounce has all the deft charm and breezy good looks you'd expect from a romance starring Ben Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow, but under the surface beats the poisoned heart of an independent film just going through the motions. Affleck plays Buddy Amaral, a successful ad exec with an empty life. In a Chicago airport, he meets Greg Janello (Tony Goldwyn), a failed playwright going home to his family and a corrupt job as a TV writer. Buddy, angling for a one-night stand with a fellow passenger, gives Greg his ticket, but feels bad when he discovers the plane crashed and the guy died. He feels so bad, in fact, that when he gets out of rehab a year or so later, he decides to give the guy's widow, real estate agent Abby (Paltrow), commission on the sale of a building for his business, a sale she's not qualified to make. They start dating. She quickly forgets her initial impression of him as a creepy stalker. Near the end of the movie, she finds out her first impression was correct and she dumps him. It's the right decision but one that the movie won't allow her to make. Instead her best friend and her kids convince her to stay with the guy. Eeeesh. Affleck is good at playing privileged and shallow, Paltrow does what she can with the prepackaged grief of a widow, Joe Morton has very little to do as Buddy's business partner (but he does it well), and Johnny Galecki shines in a very small part as Buddy's assistant. Good performances in a rather creepy film by the guy who made The Opposite of Sex. --Andy Spletzer See also: air ticket search engine microsoft flight simulator x download planes can i book a flight for someone else just flight seneca hypersonic and planetary entry flight mechanics flight of the conchords the humans are dead video flight to south america airlines discount airfares booking multiple destination flights cheap flights to stockholm |

Amaxing B-17 crew from WW II It is simply amazing what this crew faced. Pictures at the bottom. Is there any wonder why the B-17 was loved by all who flew them? Tim Subject: FW: This is quite a story from WWII.......B-17 Who says you need an instrument panel to fly and land a bomber! This is quite a story from WWII.......B-17 By Allen Ostrom They could hear it before they could see it! Not all that unusual in those days as the personnel at Station 131 gathered around the tower and scattered hardstands to await the return of the B-17's sent out earlier that morning. First comes the far off rumble and drone of the Cyclones. Then a speck on the East Anglia horizon. Soon a small cluster indicating the lead squadron. Finally, the group. Then the counting. 1-2-3-4-5... .. But that would have been normal. Today was different! It was too early for the group to return. "They're 20 minutes early. Can't be the 398th." They could hear it before they could see it! Something was coming home. But what? All eyes turned toward the northeast, aligning with the main runway, each ground guy and stood-down airman straining to make out this "wail of a Banshee," as one called it. Not like a single B-17 with its characteristic deep roar of the engines blended with four thrashing propellers. This was a howl! Like a powerful wind blowing into a huge whistle. Then it came into view. It WAS a B-17! Low and pointing her nose at the 6,000 foot runway, it appeared for all the world to be crawling toward the earth, screaming in protest. No need for the red flares. All who saw this Fort knew there was death aboard. "Look at that nose!" they said as all eyes stared in amazement as this single, shattered remnant of a once beautiful airplane glided in for an unrealistic "hot" landing. She took all the runway as the "Banshee" noise finally abated, and came to an inglorious stop in the mud just beyond the concrete runway. Men and machines raced to the now silent and lonely aircraft. The ambulance and medical staff were there first. The fire truck....ground and air personnel... ..jeeps, truck, bikes..... Out came one of the crew members from the waist door, then another. Strangely quiet. The scene was almost weird. Men stood by as if in shock, not knowing whether to sing or cry. Either would have been acceptable. The medics quietly made their way to the nose by way of the waist door as the remainder of the crew began exiting. And to answer the obvious question, "what happened?" "What happened?" was easy to see. The nose was a scene of utter destruction. It was as though some giant aerial can opener had peeled the nose like an orange, relocating shreads of metal, plexiglass, wires and tubes on the cockpit windshield and even up to the top turret. The left cheek gun hung limp, like a broken arm. One man pointed to the crease in chin turret. No mistaking that mark! A German 88 anti-aircraft shell had exploded in the lap of the togglier. This would be George Abbott of Mt. Labanon, PA. He had been a waist gunner before training to take over the bombardier's role. Still in the cockpit, physically and emotionally exhausted, were pilot Larry deLancey and co-pilot Phil Stahlman. Navigator Ray LeDoux finally tapped deLancey on the shoulder and suggested they get out. Engineer turret gunner Ben Ruckel already had made his way to the waist was exiting along with radio operator Wendell Reed, ball turret gunner Al Albro, waist gunner Russell Lachman and tail gunner Herbert Guild. Stahlman was flying his last scheduled mission as a replacement for regular co-pilot, Grady Cumbie. The latter had been hospitalized the day before with an ear problem. Lachman was also a "sub," filling in for Abbott in the waist. DeLancey made it as far as the end of the runway, where he sat down with knees drawn up, arms crossed and head down. The ordeal was over, and now the drama was beginning a mental re-play. Then a strange scene took place. Group CO Col. Frank P. Hunter had arrived after viewing the landing from the tower and was about to approach deLancey. He was physically restrained by flight surgeon Dr. Robert Sweet. "Colonel, that young man doesn't want to talk now. When he is ready you can talk to him, but for now leave him alone." Sweet handed pills out to each crew member and told them to go to their huts and sleep. No dramatics, no cameras, no interviews. The crew would depart the next day for "flak leave" to shake off the stress. And then be expected back early in November. (Just in time to resume "normal" activities on a mission to Merseburg!) Mission No. 98 from Nuthampstead had begun at 0400 that morning of October 15, 1944. It would be Cologne (again), led by CA pilots Robert Templeman of the 602nd, Frank Schofield of the 601st and Charles Khourie of the 603rd. Tragedy and death appe The Day The Music Died THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED 50 YEARS AGO TODAY! from Wikipedia On February 3, 1959, a small-plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa, United States killed three American rock and roll musicians: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, as well as the pilot, Roger Peterson. The day was later called The Day the Music Died by Don McLean in his 1971 song "American Pie".[1][2] EVENTS LEADING TO THE CRASH "The Winter Dance Party" was a tour that was set to cover 24 Midwestern cities in three weeks. A logistical problem with the tour was the amount of travel, as the distance between venues was not a priority when scheduling each performance. For example, the tour would start at venue A, travel 200 miles (320 km) to venue B, and travel back 170 miles (270 km) to venue C, which was only 30 miles (48 km) from venue A. Adding to the disarray, the tour bus used to carry the musicians was ill-prepared for the weather; its heating system broke shortly after the tour began. Drummer Carl Bunch developed a severe case of frostbitten feet while on the bus and was taken to a local hospital. As he recovered, Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens took turns with the drums. The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa was never intended to be a stop on the tour, but promoters, hoping to fill an open date, called the manager of the ballroom at the time and offered him the show. He accepted and the date of the show was set for February 2. By the time Buddy Holly arrived at the ballroom that evening, he was frustrated with the tour bus and told his bandmates that, once the show was over, they should try to charter a plane to get to the next stop on the tour, Moorhead, Minnesota. According to VH-1's Behind the Music: The Day the Music Died, Holly was also upset that he had run out of clean undershirts, socks, and underwear. He needed to do some laundry before the next performance, and the local laundromat in Clear Lake was closed that day. Flight arrangements were made with Roger Peterson, 21, a local pilot who worked for Dwyer Flying Service in Mason City, Iowa. A fee of $36 per person was charged for the single engine Beechcraft Bonanza B35 (V-tail), registration N3794N (later reassigned). The Bonanza could seat three passengers in addition to the pilot. Richardson had developed a case of the flu during the tour and asked one of Holly's bandmates, Waylon Jennings, for his seat on the plane; Jennings agreed to give up the seat. When Holly learned that Jennings wasn't going to fly, he said, "Well, I hope your ol' bus freezes up." Jennings responded, "Well, I hope your ol' plane crashes." This exchange of words, though made in jest at the time, haunted Jennings for the rest of his life.[3][4] Ritchie Valens had never flown in a small plane before, and asked Holly's remaining bandmate on the plane, Tommy Allsup, for the seat. Tommy said "I'll flip ya for the remaining seat." Contrary to what is seen in biographical movies, that coin toss did not happen at the airport shortly before takeoff, nor did Buddy Holly toss it. The toss happened at the ballroom shortly before departure to the airport, and the coin was tossed by a DJ who was working the concert that night. Valens won a seat on the plane.[3] Dion DiMucci of Dion & The Belmonts, who was the fourth headline performer on the tour, was approached to join the flight as well; however, the price of $36 was too much. Dion had heard his parents argue for years over the $36 rent for their apartment and could not bring himself to pay an entire month's rent for a short plane ride.[5] THE CRASH At approximately 1:00 AM Central Time on February 3, the plane took off from Mason City Municipal Airport. Around 1:05, Jerry Dwyer, the owner of Dwyer Flying Service, could see the lights of the plane start to descend from the sky to the ground. At the time, he thought it was an optical illusion because of the curvature of the Earth and the horizon. The pilot, Roger Peterson, was expected to file his flight plan once the plane was airborne, but Peterson never called the tower. Repeated attempts by Dwyer to contact his pilot failed. By 3:30 AM, when the airport at Fargo had not heard from Peterson, Dwyer contacted authorities and reported the aircraft missing. Around 9:15 in the morning, Dwyer took off in another small plane to fly Peterson's intended route. A short time later Dwyer spotted the wreckage in a cornfield belonging to Albert Juhl, about 5 miles northwest of the airport (43°13?12?N 93°23?0?WCoordinates: 43°13?12?N 93°23?0?W). The manager of the Surf Ballroom, who drove the performers to the airport and witnessed the plane taking off made the positive identification of the performers. The Bonanza was at a slight downward angle and banked to the right when it struck the ground at around 170 miles per hour (270 km/h). The plane tumbled and skidded another 570 See also: male flight attendant uniforms low airfare airlines last minute airfare deal cheap airfare tickets air ticket search engine flight departure check flight tickets india to usa cheap flights phoenix to las vegas cheapest flights to egypt |

Geographic Range Cloud forest and montane forests of Central America. Range from Southern Mexico to Panama. (Gotch 1981) Biogeographic Regions: neotropical (native ). Habitat The Quetzal is a relatively inactive bird who lives among lush vegetation, in very moist rainforest zones. They often choose high mountain ranges (4,000-10,00 ft.) that are cool. They live in the trees that form the canopy of the rainforest. Pharomachrus mocino prefers to inhabit decaying trees, stumps, and sometimes old woodpecker hollows. The biosterously loud colors of the quetzal are somewhat camouflaged by their natural habitat in the rainforest. (Grolier 1996, Grzimek 1972, Skutch 1983) Terrestrial Biomes: rainforest . Physical Description Size: 14 in. (35cm) from bill to base of tail. Males' magnificent tail can be up to as much as 3ft. (90cm) long. Excluding tail, the length of the quetzal is comparable in size to a Magpie, Grosbeak, or Pigeon. (Grolier 1996, Grzimek 1972) Coloration: The most extravagant feature of the male quetzal is its iridescent tail plumes, which can add up to 3 ft. to the birds length. The head, neck, chest, back and wings of the males are a metallic green, while the breast and belly are bright crimson. The male has a distinct tuft of bristly upstanding golden green feathers on top of his head, forming a crestlike structure. The female quetzal is very similar in color, yet far less conspicuous than males. The head of the female ranges from smoky-gray to bronze tinged with green at the edgings. The breast is sometimes gray or a muted shade of red far less vibrant than the males. Often the brilliant green that the males display is replaced with browns and buff tones in the female. (Grolier 1996, Middleton and Perrins 1985, Skutch and Stiles 1989, Skutch 1983) Feet: The feet of the quetzal are very unusual, yet quintessential to the Trogon family. They have olive-gray colored feet with four toes on each foot (two in front and two in back). The first and second toes have been shifted to the rear, while the third and fourth are directed forward. This makes their feet very weak and the first and second toes immovable. (Birkhead and Brooke 1991, Grzimek 1972, Skutch and Stiles 1989) Skin: The skin of Pharomachrus mocino is very flimsy, thin and quite easily torn. Because of the fragile skin, feathers fall out excessively while being prepared in museums. Rapid fading of feather colors also make the quetzal a poor species for display. (Birkhead and Brooke 1991) Beak: The beak of the quetzal is significant to the name of its order and family; Trogon meaning gnawing in Greek. The quetzal's beak is fairly short although very powerful. The male bird has a yellow beak while the female's is black. Males and females use their small beaks primarily for nesting and gnawing. (Grzimek 1972, Skutch and Stiles 1989) Some key physical features: endothermic ; bilateral symmetry . Reproduction Breeding: The breeding season of the quetzal is from March to June. During this time males perform courtship dances, calls and loud singing in order to attract females. The male's call during this season sounds like "very-good very-good." Quetzals are hole-brooders that use their beaks to excavate holes in decaying bark, but they do not fill the brood with nesting materials such as thatch or leaves, they simply deposit their clutches on the bare floor of the chamber. Both male and female quetzals assist in the nest building. These simple nests are usually located 15-45 ft. from ground level, and are about 4-4 1/2 in. (10-11.4cm) in diameter. Once a pair is established and the two have built a nest together, they mate inside the chamber. The female lays her eggs, usually two, on the floor of the chamber. The eggs are light-blue, globular in shape, and 35x30mm. Parental care is exhibited by both quetzals, during the incubation period of 17-18 days. The pair shares incubation duties, separating the times of day each cares for the clutch. The female broods during the night and midday, while the male broods in early morning and late afternoon. It was throught by native people that the quetzal built two entrances to the chamber so the male would not damage his fabulous plumes during incubation, but this idea has been discarded because male quetzals are often seen with tattered tails during mating season. (Grolier 1996, Gzimek 1972, Skutch 1983, Skutch and Stiles 1989) Hatchlings: After about 17-18 days, the quetzals eggs hatch exposing naked hatchlings with closed eyes and a white egg tooth near the tip of the upper mandible. The eyes remained closed for the entire first week after hatching. The hatchlings develop rapidly, and by two weeks they are profusely covered with feathers excluding their heads. The feathers of the young quetzal are very soft and pale in tone. They closely resemble the female in her muted tones of grays and dull greens. The young birds also lack the traces of crimson on Freedom Flight One of the hot air balloons from Freedom Flight Inc. at the summertime concert series near Lake George in St. Cloud, MN. freedom flight inc A true life adventure of an escape from Iran during the civil war when Khomeini overthrew the Shah of Iran.
