I had an assignment in Jamaica this past Weekend. It was a good time, the group we took down were all very friendly and a pleasure to work with. The days were filled with shooting, sun-tanning, Lamb Chops, swimming and throwing the football around. The nights were about more lamb chops (this group loved their lamb chops), drinking, dancing and of course more shooting. Upon arrival in Toronto the drug dogs particularly liked one of my bags, which made my custom's declaration card very colourful with all the different pens they used. My bags and everything on me was check and eventually I was free to return home. YEAH MON

JFK is definitely better than Laguardia in terms of timely arrivals, but the air train/Long Island Rail Road/subway ticket kafuffle was more than I needed after a long flight.

Good news is, because of the vast inefficiencies of the ticket-purchasing process, people talk to each other, and there's always an accommodating staff member around to help you out.

In total, I got to Manhattan on $12. Even less if you take the subway and Air Train alone.

-Update- I still can't belive i had to go through all of this! Thats a lot of Math there!

I also like how this quite random picture i took has started to become a "stock image" used on a few sites. I have no problem with it, i just find it amusing. After all, it's under a CC license. So, feel free to use it! :)

Book Chaos

Book Chaos

My first submission for this weeks "organized chaos" theme.

When I left the classroom many of my classroom library books ended up in my son's room because I don't have a lot of storage space. He has two book cases in there, both with the books shelved two deep. I'm sure you can tell which ones he's been reading lately...

this was taken from the balcony of my hotel room looking out over sunset boulevard.
that's the sunset tower in the background & i think that's a best western in the foreground.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

these were taken about 10 years ago, i won a trip to LA to see the dandy warhols from capital records. they paid for airfare, hotel, tickets, backstage passes and some promo goodies.

my friend JD had just moved down earlier that summer & since seeing the dandy warhols was something i could do easily & frequently in seattle, i scalped the tickets & backstage passes and we hit the town instead.

so during the day when JD was at work, i just wandered up and down sunset blvd. & west hollywood taking it all in.

my last night there i seriously considered not going back to seattle & just staying in LA with what little i'd packed for the 3 days.

JD may not have appreciated me crash landing there at the time, but I was living out of my car in seattle back then & had nothing to go back to.

in hindsight, i fully regret not taking the leap.

as for the lomo, something happened during developing. walgreens had just opened & had a deal on developing, somehow half the roll came out correctly, the other half, not so much.

that said, i'm all for happy accidents.

The Great Nation: France from Louis XV to Napoleon (New Penguin History of France)

The Great Nation: France from Louis XV to Napoleon (New Penguin History of France)

There can be few more mesmerizing historical narratives than the story of how the confident monarchy left by Louis XIV in 1715 became the discredited failure toppled by revolution in 1789. This brilliant new book is the first in forty years to describe the whole period, from the last days of the “Sun King” to the wars of Napoleon. In a groundbreaking work of scholarship, Colin Jones argues that, contrary to popular belief, the house of Bourbon’s downfall was hardly a foregone conclusion. Producing an illuminating account of a society torn apart from within, he recounts the saga of how a dynamic French society—the heart of the Enlighten-ment—fell prey to the debt and humiliation of its wars against Britain.

Eiffel Tower in Paris, France

Eiffel Tower in Paris, France

The Eiffel Tower is known to most of you but here are some facts from wikipedia.org:
The Eiffel Tower (French: Tour Eiffel, [tu? ?f?l]) is a 19th century iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris that has become both a global icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The Eiffel Tower, which is the tallest building in Paris,[1] is the single most visited paid monument in the world; millions of people ascend it every year. Named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built as the entrance arch for the 1889 World's Fair.
The tower stands at 324 m (1,063 ft) tall, about the same height as an 81-story building. It was the tallest structure in the world from its completion until 1930, when it was eclipsed by the Chrysler Building in New York City. Not including broadcast antennas, it is the second-tallest structure in France, behind the Millau Viaduct, completed in 2004. And while the Eiffel Tower is a steel structure, and weighs approximately 10,000 tonnes, it actually has a relatively low density, weighing less than a cylinder of air occupying the same dimensions as the tower.
The tower has three levels for visitors. Tickets can be purchased to ascend either on stairs or lifts to the first and second levels. The walk to the first level is over 300 steps, as is the walk from the first to the second level. The third and highest level is only accessible by lift. Both the first and second levels feature restaurants.
The tower has become the most prominent symbol of both Paris and France. The tower is a featured part of the backdrop in literally scores of movies that take place in Paris. Its iconic status is so established that it even serves as a symbol for the entire nation of France, such as when it was used as the logo for the French bid to host the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Cirque du Soleil: Kŕ

Cirque du Soleil: Kŕ

The soundtrack of the show KA is the most ambitious musical project produced by Cirque du Soleil to date. While remaining firmly rooted in Cirque du Soleil musical tradition, the recording features a symphony orchestra and a 40-member choir, as such creating a unique musical universe both epic and lyrical.
The powerful percussion and distinctive sound invites comparisons with classic movie soundtracks creating "a rich soundtrack that lives up to the overarching eye-candy on display", says Variety. To create this sound, KA was recorded at the renowned Paramount Studios in Los Angeles and in Montreal, where Cirque du Soleil is based. Hollywood veteran Simon Leclerc, the conductor for Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise and the play Les Miserables, conducted the orchestra in Los Angeles.
Composer Rene Dupere has been part of Cirque du Soleil since the very beginning. KA is the first work Dupere has composed for Cirque du Soleil since 1994’s Alegria, the best-selling Cirque du Soleil recording to date. "We pulled out all the stops in the making of this album, and the result is, I believe, a record of the highest quality," says Dupere. The album KA is worthy of the show that Time magazine called "bigger than Vegas."
Both the stage production and the soundtrack called for highly innovative use of musical technology. Says Martin Lord-Ferguson, co-producer of the recording: "Technological innovation, artistic audacity and technical prowess are all features of KA that the soundtrack had to reflect."

Why did you roll your dice, show your cards

Why did you roll your dice, show your cards

Look at me actually doing an upload two days in a row! As busy as I am I want to try to keep uploading even if they arent super good photos.... well I have some exciting news. I waaas going to start saving for a new camera (Canon 60D) beginning with the $300 I just put in my savings but instead I am using that towards a flight to LAS VEGAS TO SEE BRANDON FLOWERS. Much thanks goes to Mackie though, one of my old Green Day friends who goes to school there and is letting me stay with her and coming with me to the show. If she wasnt there I probably wouldnt be going.

Yeah yeah judge me, but to me travel is such an important thing in my life. Nothing compares to the feeling of seeing a new city for the first time live in person, feeling the different vibes and comparing it to your own home. As much as I want a new camera, that will always be there and I figure that Las Vegas is a city I'd like to see eventually, so why not go when one of my favorite artists is going to be playing (a hometown) show! This was an impulse decision and I just bought the concert tickets (plane tickets are to come next week when I get paid) but I have the same excited feeling as I did when I bought my Green Day San Francisco tickets. I love to travel. Especially when its to see great friends and music.
57 days til Las Vegas! :D

Random fact of the day is obviously:
I LOVE TO TRAVEL. Always will, I will never stop. Whether it's monthly roadtrips to Dutchess county, spantaneous trips to Boston or other northeastern cities or annual trips to Florida to see my cousin or random spur of the moment decisions like this one, I love it. It keeps my life exciting and gives me new places to see and new experiences and nothing compares to that feeling of seeing new places.

Why did you roll your dice?
Show your cards?
Jilted lovers and broken hearts
You're flying away while I'm stuck here on the ground

Vegas by night (or early early morning)

Vegas by night (or early early morning)

So my silly idea was, I'd get another evening of fun in, fly out in the morning, get to work pretty much on time.

So I got a 7:35 flight. That means I'm supposed to be at the airport at 6:35. I have a round-trip ticket from Local Airport Shuttle Co. I call LASC to schedule a pickup. They say they'll pick me up at 4:35.

Whiskey tango foxtrot, over?

I guess they figure it's best to leave a bunch of time and not risk people missing their flights. And they do have to pick up other folks. But two hours to get from downtown Las Vegas to Las Vegas International seems excessive...

In retrospect, I should've paid ten bucks more for a cab and gotten another hour's sleep. Ah well. On the road now, and adrenaline & caffeine should carry me through the day.

Pretty moon out tonight!

The Flight of Dragons

The Flight of Dragons

Ever wish you could see a dragon? Or wonder how they fly or why they breathe fire? Journey back to a magical time when the skies were filled with these amazing creatures in The Flight of Dragons, a dazzling, feature-length animated version of Peter Dickinson's acclaimed book from Rankin/Bass Studios. Victor Buono, James Gregory, James Earl Jones, Harry Morgan, John Ritter and Larry Storch provide voices for this wondrous tale set in the Dark Ages. The sinister Red Wizard Ommadon (Jones) threatens to destroy nature. The world's hope is a man of science and magic from the future. That man is Peter (Ritter), snatched from the 20th century by the Green Wizard Carolinus (Morgan) to capture Ommadon's empowering Red Crown. With a fire-breathing dragon, an outlaw elf and a noble knight as comrades-in-arms, Peter applies modern-day logic to battling ages-old evil.
This disc is expected to play back in DVD video "play only" devices, and may not play in other DVD devices, including recorders and PC drives.
This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

A good wizard finds his magical powers diminishing as this Rankin/Bass production based on the Peter Dickinson novel opens. His nemesis, the evil Ommadon (voiced by James Earl Jones at his deepest and scariest), swiftly takes advantage of the situation. Who will save the world? Why, none other than a young scientist-novelist-game inventor, named Peter Dickenson (mildly voiced by John Ritter), who is zapped from the future back into the time of dragons. Populating this Japanese-animation fantasy film are the titular fire-breathing dragons, the wizards, a knight, a maiden, some elves, and--in a feminist departure from tradition--a heroic bowwoman. The battles are fairly mild and most of the virtuous characters recover, making this a good choice for family viewing, as well as a staple for the fantasy fanatic's video library. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Fraser Island White-bellied Sea-eagle 0030.JPG

Fraser Island White-bellied Sea-eagle 0030.JPG

White-bellied Sea-eagle
Haliaeetus leucogaster
Description

The White-bellied Sea-Eagle has white on the head, rump and underparts and dark grey on the back and wings. In flight the black flight feathers on the wings are easily seen when the bird is viewed from below. The large, hooked bill is grey with a darker tip, and the eye is dark brown. The legs and feet are cream-white, with long black talons (claws). The sexes are similar. Males (around 75cm in height) are slightly smaller than females (up to 85cm). The wingspan is about 2m. Young Sea-Eagles are brown as juveniles than slowly become to resemble adults in a patchwork manner, acquiring the complete adult plumage by their fourth year.

The White-bellied Sea-Eagle is the second largest bird of prey found in Australia. The largest is the Wedge-tailed Eagle, Aquila audax, which stands up to 1m. The Wedge-tailed Eagle is mostly brown, with a wedge-shaped tail.

Young Sea-Eagles may be confused with the Wedge-tailed Eagle, but differ in having a paler head and tail and more steeply upswept wings when soaring.
Distribution and Habitat

White-bellied Sea-Eagles are a common sight in coastal and near coastal areas of Australia. Birds form permanent pairs that inhabit territories throughout the year. Their loud "goose-like" honking call is a familiar sound, particularly during the breeding season. Birds are normally seen, perched high in a tree, or soaring over waterways and adjacent land.

In addition to Australia, the species is found in New Guinea, Indonesia, China, south-east Asia and India.
Food and Feeding

The White-bellied Sea-Eagle feeds mainly off aquatic animals, such as fish, turtles and sea snakes, but it takes birds and mammals as well. It is a skilled hunter, and will attack prey up to the size of a swan. Sea-Eagles also feed on carrion (dead prey) such as sheep and fish along the waterline. They harass smaller birds, forcing them to drop any food that they are carrying. Sea-Eagles feed alone, in pairs or in family groups.
White-bellied Sea-eagle egg
White-bellied Sea-eagle egg © Australian Museum
Breeding

White-bellied Sea-Eagles build a large stick nest, which is used for many seasons in succession. The nest can be located in a tree up to 30m above the ground, but may be also be placed on the ground or on rocks, where there are no suitable trees. At the start of the breeding season (May to October), the nest is lined with fresh green leaves and twigs. The female carries out most of the incubation of the two white eggs, but the male performs this duty from time to time.

Myro's creator Nick Rose lands on an Australia beach after epic flight from Bournemouth aerodrome

Myro's creator Nick Rose lands on an Australia beach after epic flight from Bournemouth aerodrome

The man behind the Myro stories is Nick Rose, an entrepreneur from Bournemouth, Dorset.

His passion for aviation began when, at the age of 8, he tape-recorded aeroplanes flying over his house and made a ‘history of flight’ documentary for school.

Nick had his first chance to fly when, as a trainee engineer for a local radio station, he would hitch rides with the station’s “Skyway Patrol” aeroplane.

Nick dreamed to become a pilot, and attracted by the freedom of small planes in wide open spaces, was determined to fly a microlight in the Southern Hemisphere.

But first he would follow a career in engineering, spurred on by his success in 1987’s Young Engineer’s for Great Britain competition and 1988’s International Science and Engineering Fair.

Moving from his home in Buckinghamshire to Dorset, Nick studied manufacturing and business at university, where in the last year he started his first company from his bedroom. Today, Teletest Ltd designs, manufactures and exports HDTV and 3DTV equipment to TV studios around the World.

Nick’s flying dreams finally came true when, in 2004, a friend invited him to a wedding in Australia. Nick found a discarded aviation magazine advertising microlight lessons and four days later, he was flying solo! Nick and other microlight pilots then made the flight of a lifetime up Australia’s East Coast to the famous Byron Bay, and it was during this trip the seeds of Myro were sown.

One night, Nick wrote a short story for his three year old Godson, called “Mickey the Microlight”, identifying the ‘market opportunity’ for a series of quality children’s picture books about aeroplanes.

So with the help of a dozen freelancers and seven years of production, these seeds grew into Myro, the Smallest Plane in the World. All stories are based on the real places Nick visited, the people he met and the adventures he had during three years of research whilst flying his Microlight in Australia.

As publishers wouldn’t meet with Nick to discuss the project, he invested every penny and spare moment he had into self publishing the first six Myro books and the CD of songs.

Nick says, “The Myro series is influenced by the 1950’s ‘Eagle Annuals’, the 1960’s ‘Thunderbirds’ TV shows and the detailed books of Richard Scarry. Every Myro story is an adventure where the little plane either gets into a scrape or comes to the rescue! We have tried to create a series of books that appealed to both parents and children, based on contemporary activities and issues.

“I’ve loved creating the series with the incredibly talented freelancers. The project is great fun and it’s been very rewarding to see the books and songs develop from ideas.

“I’m looking forward to starting the next Myro projects, including an animation series and a stage play, performed by a touring theatre company.”

Nick has many other Myro stories and songs whirring around in his head – but you’ll have to wait for the next series to see what new adventures and situations our heroic little plane gets into!

Take Flight

Synopsis:

This is the story of how Rebecca Carter overcame mental and physical illnesses that resulted in her deadly reliance upon drugs. She also shares a valuable 12-step outline on how to find help if you suspect yourself, or someone you know, has any mental issues that need to be dealt with.

From birth in 1947, Rebecca showed signs of abnormalities triggering an abundance of treatments prescribed by her father, a renowned surgeon in the United States. Her school years brought on a host of highly addictive and over-the-counter medications in unlimited supply. This deadly dependency continued throughout her successful adult life until she finally realized she was literally playing Russian roulette with her life.

Born in York, Pennsylvania, Rebecca struggled through daily existence, culminating in her receiving a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Boston University in 1970. She then married her high school sweetheart, an exchange student from Australia and emigrated “Down Under.” There, she has taught “Music for Tots” for the past 35 years, releasing a book, CD and DVD to help parents give their young children a musical head start. Rebecca and her husband Brett now enjoy living in the tropics of Far North Queensland, off the Great Barrier Reef, with their family settled nearby.

Perhaps the most incredible story you will ever read, Take Flight will instill hope and inspire those who need help to seek it before it is too late.

Wings of Madness: Alberto Santos-Dumont and the Invention of Flight

Wings of Madness: Alberto Santos-Dumont and the Invention of Flight

n the eve of the centennial of the Wright brothers' historic flights at Kitty Hawk, a new generation will learn about the other man who was once hailed worldwide as the conqueror of the air-Alberto Santos-Dumont. Because the Wright brothers worked in secrecy, word of their first flights had not reached Europe when Santos-Dumont took to the skies in 1906. The dashing, impeccably dressed inventor entertained Paris with his airborne antics-barhopping in a little dirigible that he tied to lampposts, circling above crowds around the Eiffel Tower, and crashing into rooftops. A man celebrated, even pursued by the press in Paris, London, and New York, Santos-Dumont dined regularly with the Cartiers, the Rothschilds, and the Roosevelts. But beneath his lively public exterior, Santos-Dumont was a frenzied genius tortured by the weight of his own creation. Wings of Madness chronicles the science and history of early aviation and offers a fascinating glimpse into the mind of an extraordinary and tormented man, vividly depicting the sights and sounds of turn-of-the-century Paris. It is a book that will do for aviation what The Man Who Loved Only Numbers did for mathematics.

Toco Toucan. Photographed in Brasilia, Brazil.

A text, in english, from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

The Toco Toucan (Ramphastos toco) is the largest and arguably best known species in the toucan family. It is found in semi-open habitats throughout a large part of central and eastern South America. It is a common attraction in zoos.
Description:
The Toco Toucan has a striking plumage with a mainly black body, a white throat, chest and uppertail-coverts, and red undertail-coverts. What appears to be a blue iris is actually thin blue skin around the eye. This blue skin is surrounded by another ring of bare, orange skin. The most noticeable feature, however, is its huge bill, which is yellow-orange, tending to deeper reddish-orange on its lower sections and culmen, and with a black base and large spot on the tip. It looks heavy, but as in other toucans it is relatively light because the inside largely is hollow. The tongue is nearly as long as the bill and very flat. With a total length of 55–65 cm (22–26 in), incl. a bill that measures almost 20 cm (8 in), and a weight of 500–860 g (17.5-30 oz), it is the largest species of toucan and the largest representative of the order Piciformes.[2] Males are larger than females, but otherwise both are alike. Juveniles are duller and shorter-billed than adults. Its voice consists of a deep, coarse croaking, often repeated every few seconds. It also has a rattling call and will bill-clack.
Distribution:
t occurs in northern and eastern Bolivia, extreme south-eastern Peru, northern Argentina, eastern and central Paraguay, eastern and southern Brazil (excluding southern Rio Grande do Sul, the dry regions dominated by Caatinga vegetation and coastal regions between Ceara and Rio de Janeiro). Other disjunct populations occur along the lower Amazon River (Ilha de Marajo west approximately to the Madeira River), far northern Brazil in Roraima, and coastal regions of the Guianas. It only penetrates the Amazon in relatively open areas (e.g. along river corridors). It is resident, but local movements may occur.
Habitat and status:
It is, unlike the other members of the genus Ramphastos, essentially a non-forest species. It can be found in a wide range of semi-open habitats such as woodland, savanna and other open habitats with scattered trees, Cerrado, plantations, forest-edge, and even wooded gardens. It is mainly a species of lowlands, but occurs up to 1750 m (5750 ft) near the Andes in Bolivia. Because it prefers open habitats it is likely to benefit from the widespread deforestation in tropical South America. It has a large range and except in the outer regions of its range, it typically is fairly common. It is therefore considered to be of Least Concern by BirdLife International. It is easily seen in the Pantanal.
Behavior:
The Toco Toucan eats fruit (e.g. figs and Passiflora edulis) using its bill to pluck them from trees, but also insects, frogs, small reptiles and nestlings, and eggs of birds. It also has been known to capture and eat small adult birds in captivity. The long bill is useful for reaching things that otherwise would be out-of-reach. It is also used to skin fruit and scare off predators.[3] It is typically seen in pairs or small groups. In flight it alternates between a burst of rapid flaps with the relatively short, rounded wings, and gliding. They are poor flyers, and usually hop from tree to tree. Nesting is seasonal, but timing differs between regions. The nest is typically placed high in a tree and consists of a cavity, at least part of which is excavated by the parent birds themselves. It has also been recorded nesting in holes in earth-banks and terrestrial termite-nests. Their reproduction cycle is annual. The female usually lays two to four eggs a few days after mating. The eggs are incubated by both sexes and hatch after 17–18 days. These birds are very protective of themselves and of their babies.
Bill function:
The bill is largest beak relative to body size of all birds providing 30 to 50% of its body surface area.[4] It was called by Buffon a “grossly monstrous” appendage.[5] Diverse functions have been suggested. Charles Darwin suggested it was a sexual ornament: “toucans may owe the enormous size of their beaks to sexual selection, for the sake of displaying the diversified and vivid stripes of colour with which these organs are ornamented".[6] Further suggestions have included aid in peeling fruit, intimidating other birds when robbing their nests, social selection related to defense of territory, and as a visual warning.[4][7]
Research has shown that one function is as a surface area for heat exchange.[4] The bill has the ability to modify blood flow and so regulate heat distribution in the bird, allowing it to use its bill as a thermal radiator.[4] In terms of surface area used for this function, the bill relative to the bird's size is amongst the largest of any animal and has a network of superficial blood vessels supporting the

Arrivals, Departures, and Flights of Fancy

I am Mozell Fleming. I was born in Washington D.C., Walter Reed Hospital. I am the second child of nine. I have five sisters and three brothers. We are family. I reside in Deltona, Florida, with my wife and three sons. Primary schooling was accomplished all up and down the Eastern seaboard, from New York to Florida. I attended school mostly in the South. This includes my numerous stays in Mississippi where my family settled after slavery. I also have roots in Louisiana where my mother’s people resided. You see it’s just a brief moment that we are allowed, blessed to be here on Earth. Here in the United States of America we are blessed beyond measure, no doubt about it, and it’s not because of who we are but because of who GOD is that we can change our lives and become all that we are supposed to be. At this point in my life, I want to be the best that I can, to reach out and help those who I come in contact with to be the best that they can be. My purpose is to teach, to show love, and to awaken all of the people upon this sphere to the concept of being a better person. I stand on the scripture that states, I can do all things through Christ that gives me strength. Hope is only a prayer away.

Thimphu Festival Tours,Bhutan Thimphu Festival Tour Guide,Bhutan Festival Tour
Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan and it is the centre of government. The broad Thimphu valley represents mostly urban way of life. Just like any other place in Bhutan. This valley is clothed with beautiful trees from valleys to the hill top and with beautiful buildings built and maintained with traditional Bhutanese architecture.

Thimphu means "sinking” derived from a legend and today one can still see a rock covered with silk and offerings in front of Dechenphu temple. Before the arrival of the great Shabdrung Rinpoche in Bhutan 1616, the valley of Thimphu came to exist after the arrival of the great Boddhisatawa Phajo Drukgum Shipo, who married to a local girl and settled in Thimphu valley. Almost all the historical sites as well as temples in Thimphu are connected to Phajo Drukgum Shipo family. this weekend >:]
ohhh man this weekend..
well now starting with friday ;D
Chelsea came home with me afterschool. and we just chilled for like four hours cx
not really we skateboarded and did stupid shit...like we always do.
then we went to kings dominion for hallow haunt...and let me do this now.

WARNING THIS CONTENT MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR ALL VIEWERS
Rated PG13 for strong language.

okay :D
so we went to kingsdominion.
and the first thing we did was this midevil thing. and i was holding on to the straps of no no no no no wait back up!
we had to walk through snoopy ville first wich was not for little kids at the time cx
and people were walking around "trying" to scare us like some ugly bunny..that i just wanted to hug xD (by the way folks...this is long) and stuff and there was raggedy anne and andy and some little crazy midget was all "STAY CLOSE WE WILL TRY TO SEPERATE YOU" and i'm all "you cannot seperate this!" and then she tried laughing in my face...she failed.
....yea she really failed. THEN! we went through this midevl thing wich is usualy the bumpercars..and we made chelsea go first ;) then in that maze thing someone smacked me..on the ass. and i was all "HEY" and yea i told her if they scared her to just look straight. you know minus the fact it ddn't matter where we looked because fog was everywhere and i mean i was just talking to the people that worked there like they were normal becuse they did one hell of a crappy job this year.
then after that we (as in Me, Chelsea, Daneen, and Josh)
walked down to the volcano but we had to walk through more fog and it was tribal people so i was all (meehehehehe) and they started comming torwards us and i was all "HALT! ME TRIBAL TOO I LIKE HUNT BUFFALO! *makes weird tribal noises*" and he worker shaking the pot started making the noises with me and trying not to laugh. so then we got on the volcano wich wasnt a long line at all (that time...wich means we went back)and so me and chelsea rode front row and she was talking about something i'm not sure. then after that we rode the intimidator...let me express my hate for that ride and only because we got stuck on the tracks. but anyways me and chesea were both resistnt to get on..but we did...i like it better at night then after that we met up with chelsea's cousin and her friend anna. so they joined our little group.and we went through t...wait back up after the intimidator we went through the flight of fear maze with the aliens and i kept telling chelsea what was real and what wasnt. and this litte aliean was RIGHT THERE! out in the open and when ever he's supposed to scare you he was like "..boo." like a whisper so daneen starts laughing and i'm yelling "DON'T SCARE HER SHE'S PREGNANT!" and as soon as i say that ive done pushed chelsea into a mirror and a guy walks out and it all "I LIKE BABEHSSS" and chelsea was all "YOU CAN HAVE IT IN NINE MONTHS!" cx and he dissapears then! we get to the space ship part and theres a guy with tubes commping out his head and some mining mask and i was all "he's real he's real OH MY FUCKING GOD THIS BITCH IS REAL!" then he tried jumping over the counter T_T
wich made me laugh. so we're seeing exit signs now and some "soldier" pops up and screams "GET OUT!" and i'm like "LOL A LITTLE TOO LATE WE SEE THE SIGNS!!" and then theres this large animal thing that somehow comes soooo smoothly down the barel he's standing on and has me against a wall and i'm like "holy shit is this thing a person or what?" and i look down to see his shoes and i'm all "oh..you're real..and creepy" then! we catch up with her cousin and anna and go through toxi plague and club blood (all time favorite alow me to hit details) Rager : )

thats what club blood is a giant fucking Rager and i love it!
so we walk along and it's all PAINT THE TOWN RED!
oh yea cool i'm down. we're gonna commit some slaughter.
well we go in and theres this one guy..and i was talking to OH YEA! he had to get back to the back of the thing before us and he walks in and i was all 'HOLD UP..YOU

I stand corrected, thanks to KSGarriott for the correction....Both the 104 and the F5 are very similar. Jim is just as embarrassed as me.

The Northrop F-5 was built under license in Canada by Canadair Ltd. and is know as the CF-5. A total of 204 CF-5s were produced for the RCAF and Canadian Forces.

The Freedom Fighter has successfully served in a number of air forces worldwide for many years and is appreciated for its maneuverability and ease to fly.

The refueling lance that protrudes from the starboard side gave the aircraft long distance flight capabilities, such as trans-Atlantic flights to assist in NATO operations. The probe and drogue system could refuel two aircraft at the same time from one tanker.

In July 1965, the Canadian government selected the F-5 lightweight fighter as the new tactical aircraft in the midst of a great degree of disdain. The F-5 had been designed as a cheap, throw away fighter for developing countries with limited technical expertise. For a country like Canada with a sophisticated aerospace industry, the aircraft selection was seen as a step backward. A substantial number of Canadian unique modifications were added to make the aircraft suitable and the aircraft was subsequently also adopted by the Dutch Air Force with further modifications.
The aircraft went on to provide yeoman service for the Canadian Air Force both in the tactical fighter and advanced jet training role. Its small size also made it a valuable adversary training aircraft in exercises. After being removed from front-line service, the aircraft became a lead-in fighter trainer for the CF-18 only to be retired after further extensive overhaul and avionics modification programs.

My honey is a retired Aircraft refinisher. This was refinished in 1995 in his shop. This is on a pedestal by Holiday Inn in Trenton, Ont.

flight fare watcher - The Watcher

The Watcher

The Watcher

Keanu Reeves turns up the heat as a stone cold serial killer playing a sadistic game of cat and mouse with a burnt-out FBI agent (James Spader). This action-packed thriller zooms along against a wild backdrop of twisted streets, screaming sirens and pure adrenaline!

James Spader stars as Joel Campbell, a former detective traumatized by the death of his lover at the hands of a serial killer he'd been hunting--a psychopath who has taken their combative relationship a little too personally, and has now tracked the retired Campbell down in Chicago. The killer, who methodically studies his victims before killing them, starts sending Campbell photographs of prospective victims and gives him a day to find them before they're killed. Campbell rises to the challenge, returns to his role as detective, and launches a comprehensive manhunt for the killer and the women in the photographs. The Watcher is surprisingly watchable--though it does suffer from an excessive use of arty cinematography. But while the psychological interpretation of the killer's behavior is a little too schematic to be convincing, the portrayal of Campbell is quite strong, particularly due to Spader's performance. A much-underrated actor, Spader is lean and efficient in his portrayal, rarely given to flashy histrionics, but compelling and emotionally complex. Unfortunately, the killer is played by Keanu Reeves; and though Reeves isn't as terrible an actor as some critics may say, he's out of his depth here. Still, Spader carries most of the movie, and the sequences in which the police are trying to track down the victims are nicely suspenseful--in fact, the movie is overall more interested in suspense than gore, making it a pleasant change from most contemporary thrillers. Also starring Marisa Tomei as Campbell's psychiatrist and budding romantic interest. --Bret Fetzer

The trip over: Boston to Newark, then Newark to Hong Kong on a 15+ hour flight.

Returning: Shanghai to Toronto (13+ hours), then Toronto back to Boston. While the flight path shows a leg to Narita, we didn't stop in Japan; I used that as a marker because our initial course took us a bit east of Narita, before we angled up over Alaska and northern Canada. The great circle route from Shanghai would have been shorter, but it looked like we would have flown over North Korea. I'm just as glad we didn't do that.

I think the closest one can experience purgatory on earth is a flight to or from Asia.

Like the other Sasek classics, this is a facsimile edition of the original book. The brilliant, vibrant illustrations have been meticulously preserved, remaining true to his vision more than 40 years later. Facts have been updated for the 21st-century, appearing on a "This is . . . Today" page at the back of the book. These charming illustrations, coupled with Sasek's witty, playful narrative, make for a perfect souvenir that will delight both children and their parents, many of whom will remember the series from their own childhoods. This is Hong Kong, first published in 1965, captures the enchantment and the contrasts of Hong Kong in the sixties. Roaring jets bring in the tourists; bamboo rickshaws taxi them through exotic streets fragrant with incense, roasting chestnuts, and honey-glazed Peking duck. Sasek shows you the sweeping panorama of gleaming Kowloon Bay framed by misty mountain ridges, then moves in for close-ups of laborers and hawkers, refugees from the mainland, and sailors of flame-red junks, and the strange "water people" who, it is said, never set foot on dry land.

The Gyroplane Flight Manual

The Gyroplane Flight Manual

This is the world's most popular book on amateur-built gyroplanes. It introduces these unique helicopter-like aircraft that have become popular worldwide for sport flying. Thousands of pilots now take to the sky in these small, maneuverable aircraft that they themselves have built.
This book tells what gyroplanes are like, how they fly, and how to learn to fly them. It contains a section on selecting the best gyroplane for your individual needs. It discusses frankly the risks of flying these aircraft and provides information on flying safety. There's a pilot report that lets you feel a real flight in a gyroplane and a troubleshooting guide for beginning pilots.
This book contains hard-to-get information on where the gyroplane came from and current popular models of gyroplanes. It has many photographs and illustrations.
Author Paul Bergen Abbott is a veteran gyroplane pilot who recently received the Gyrocopter Pioneer Award from Hofstra University for his aviation journalism, which includes this book, plus another book, "Understanding the Gyroplane," along with other books and magazine articles, and experience as editor/publisher of Rotorcraft magazine. Abbott is also the editor of a book by Igor Bensen, the inventor of the Gyrocopter, "A Dream of Flight."
Abbott wrote the original edition of "The Gyroplane Flight Manual" in 1977 and has continually updated and expanded it. This is the seventh edition of this popular book.

PREFACE.

In the "Popular Science Monthly" for July, 1886, there was printed a
somewhat miscellaneous assortment of customs and superstitions under the
title: _Animal and Plant Lore of Children_. This article was in the main
composed of reminiscences of my own childhood spent in Northern Ohio,
though two or three friends of New England rearing contributed personal
recollections. Seldom is a line cast which brings ashore such an abundant
catch as did my initial folk-lore paper. A footnote had, by the advice of
a friend, been appended asking readers to send similar lore to the
writer. About seventy answers were received, from all sorts of
localities, ranging from Halifax to New Orleans. These numerous letters
convinced me that there was even then, before the foundation of the
national Society, a somewhat general interest in folk-lore,--not a
scientific interest, but a fondness for the subject-matter itself. Many
who do not care for folk-lore as a subject of research are pleased to
have recalled to them the fancies, beliefs, and customs of childhood and
early youth. A single proverb, superstition, riddle, or tradition may, by
association of ideas, act like a magic mirror in bringing back hundreds
of long-forgotten people, pastimes, and occupations. And whatever makes
one young, if only for an hour, will ever fascinate. The greater number
of those who kindly responded to the request for additional notes to my
animal and plant lore were naturally those of somewhat literary or
scientific tastes and pursuits. Many letters were from teachers, many
others from physicians, a few from professional scientists, the rest from
men and women of various callings, who had been pleased by suggestions
that aroused memories of the credulous and unreflecting period in their
own lives. The abundant material thus brought in, which consisted of
folk-lore items of the most varied kind, was read gratefully and with
pleasant surprise.

The items were assorted and catalogued after some provisional fashion of
my own. Succeeding papers issued in the "Popular Science Monthly" brought
in further accessions. I gradually formed the habit of asking, as
opportunity offered, any one and every one for folk-lore. Nurses abound
in such knowledge. Domestic help, whether housekeepers, seamstresses, or
servants, whether American or foreign, all by patient questioning were
induced to give of their full store.

The folk-lorist who chances to have a pet superstition or two of his own
that he never fails to observe, has an open-sesame to beliefs of this
sort held by any one with whom he comes in contact. The fact that I have
(I blush to confess it) a preference for putting on my right shoe before
the left has, I dare say, been the providential means of bringing to me
hundreds of bits of folk-lore. Many times has the exposure of this
weakness instantly opened up an opportunity for asking questions about
kindred customs and superstitions. I once asked an Irish peasant girl
from County Roscommon if she could tell me any stories about fairies.....

I once asked an Irish peasant girl
from County Roscommon if she could tell me any stories about fairies.....

hot flight attendant pictures - Pilot Barbie

Pilot Barbie

Pilot Barbie

You've come a long way, Barbie! Once upon a time, the world's most famous blonde was a flight attendant aboard her own plane. Now she's a pilot, and comes dressed for the wild blue yonder in a navy uniform with gold buttons and trim. Pilot Barbie also sports a dapper print scarf, pearl earrings and ring, and a nifty airline-style roller suitcase with handle and wheels. She even has her own cap (which comes off more easily than some budding pilots might like). Fasten your seatbelts, put your tray tables in an upright, locked position, and make sure you have the Barbie Airplane for this captain to fly.

moist towelette

moist towelette

I am about to get up. But I don’t. I can’t, because she is working her way towards me. She is stunning for her mission alone. Yes, I am about to receive the first class “moist towelette.” Surely I can hold it long enough to receive the tong held outstretched boiled towel that is the privilege of the upper class. Having traveled I have always seen this sacred rite from a distance.

Others amazingly DECLINE their towelette! This never occurs to me. Who declines a moist steaming towelette? This to me is like leaving a country, as Seinfeld says, where everyone has a pony. Why would you? I start to think ill of the decliners but this train of thought doesn’t last long.

The ipod, having shuffled through Queen, Matisyahu, Smashing Pumpkins and Sinead O’Connor settles into Morrissey for the imminent arrival. This strikes me as wrong for the arrival of pretty much anything. Yet the ipod is locked and inaccessible. So there it is; Morrissey becomes the sound track.

And she arrives. It’s my turn after my seatmate reveals himself a decliner. The tong reaches out and two more thoughts occur in this order. 1) It is mine! And 2) HOT!

Temperature notwithstanding I proceed to wipe my hands with the artifact. By the time I get to my face it has cooled just enough to retain the outermost layer of skin presently missing from my hands.

I would look back on this event realizing no recollection of the flight attendant’s features. My theory is the initial pain fermented the towelette memory and at the same time wiped out the 10 seconds prior. But that is then and this is now.

Besides the towelette, obviously, I start to add up the other benefits of my bump to first class seat 5A. It does not include the windows. Nope, same size windows as the rest of the plane. You would kind think big screen windows that are cleaner. (hint hint Continental! – can you hook us up?)

What definitely is a step up is the big chair. Big and plump like Bill’s chair on the Cosby show. Perhaps most important I realize the armrest is wide enough for the elbows and then some! The prescient designers of this part of the plane, the front part, must have expected these people to both have arms!

The last thought upsets me a bit when I think of my next flight back in armless class.

The tray the breakfast croissant, ham and egg, arrives on is nicer. Slightly larger with little rubber feet so it doesn’t slide all around. Like the trays of the accursed behind the mesh divider that lifts us up.

The bathroom, which I would have to call “le toilette” if I was writing a rap song and needed to rhyme with towelette, is not better. Same size. Same features. Same stupid sink. And the same stupid towel dispenser relinquishing pieces of what is presumably a stack of well-formed towels preloaded at 500 psi.

The silverware is metal. Flatter than it should be and cuter than it should be. But metal. I briefly ponder the rules on 1st class souvenirs. Which takes me back to a story of a friend practically strip searched entering the United States in possession of a flat and cute Air France spoon. I decide not to ask the flight attendant despite her non-Frenchness.

Looking around I realize the decliner to my right has rebuffed everything including coffee. On an 8:30 AM flight. I don’t trust him. Even if he is apparently completing Sodoku in pen. On the plus side I do not have to touch him at all given the magnificent width of the armrest.

I take a picture of my breakfast tray. With the wide-angle lens on the camera, and given I am too lazy to attach the external flash it leaves a half moon shadow on the picture. Probably the one attached to this post. So of course I have to take several shots hoping to move the crescent far enough down to crop the tray in its entirety. With the cute cutlery. At this point my seatmate is eyeing the armrest. Apparently this is unexpected behavior in first class. Who knew?

From my perspective declining everything in first class is far weirder behavior than photographing your flat breakfast croissant. But that is just me.

Having traveled frequently in my life it seems improbably that this is my first moist towelette. Yet it is. At 39. And it was good.

Now to land and put some more distance between me and the decliner….

What a trip!

What a trip!

The weather was hot and muggy, a nice change from the uber-cold Canadian
climate. J We stayed in Ft. Lauderdale with Daron and Brandy for a
couple of days before we all headed out to Miami to get on the boat and
sail for The Keys. We didn't make it to the Bahamas due to weather,
which we expected, but we did make it to Islamorada
in about 11 hours. Although, when we
got there the wind blew us out of the channel and sea-tow had to come
and get us and take us the rest of the way in. We can't say we didn't
have an adventure!

We stayed at the dock at Holiday Isle ,
which was practically a ghost town due to the weather and the fact that
they're tearing it all down within a month or so. We spent a few days
there doing nothing but hanging out. It was quite nice. J We wanted
to go parasailing, but the wind speed was too high. We made friends
with some of the locals - Brandy even convinced the convenience store
attendant to sing happy birthday to her. Hahaha!

After being relatively Blackberry-free (hey, I went a whole 24 hours!)
for a few days, we started to head back to Miami, but the parasailing
guy found us and, well, we couldn't NOT go. J I couldn't believe it -
it was beautiful. I thought I'd be scared because you're so high up,
but it was actually very relaxing and the view was gorgeous.

It took us about 16 hours or so to get back to Miami due to the winds.
We headed out to the Gulf Stream and went as fast as we could...into the
wind. Unfortunately we missed our flight, but were able to catch one on
another airline and actually made it back 30 minutes before we would
have with our original flight. We crossed the border coming from
Buffalo with no issues, and made it back without hitting too much
traffic.

That was Thursday. Friday we switched out all of our warm-weather
clothes with cold-weather clothes, and drove to Collingwood. We spent
Saturday and Sunday skiing at Blue Mountain
(I wish I had taken pictures). The last
run of the day on Sunday ended up in an injury for a member of our
party, we had to get the Ski Patrol and everything, and he's still
recovering... But he did learn! I took my little guy up the small
bunny hill once; we made it half way before he was too tired to go
anymore. I think I'll take him to the local tiny hill, Chicopee, and
get a two hour pass.

We got back from Collingwood Sunday evening and I packed up my hockey
stuff and played a game. Yes, I was exhausted!

Now everything is back to normal, and I'm resting up from having been on
vacation. ;)

The Pilot's Handbook: The Flight Bag Book (Aviation Skills Piloting)

The Pilot's Handbook is an illustrated how-to guide of procedures, operations, communications, and reference for all general-aviation pilots. This convenient, cockpit-handy manual features in-depth and specific procedural descriptions intended for reading on the ground, and checklists on heavy tabbed section dividers for use in the air. Hundreds of full-color illustrations illuminate the explanations, and a spiral binding allows for folding over or full opening. It includes descriptions of airports and airspaces, flying into and from Class B and Class C airports, uncontrolled-airport procedures, communications and radio failures, approach briefings including effective use of Jeppesen and FAA charts, and problems and emergencies. Divided into VFR and IFR sections, the latter is a guide to instrument clearances and procedures, including the common ILS, VOR and GPS, and also refreshers for the less frequently used NDBs, DME arcs, procedure turns and course reversals, and holds.

Staten Island Borough Hall

Staten Island Borough Hall

St. George, Staten Island, New York City, New York, United States

Borough Hall, Staten Island's grandest civic monument, was designed in 1903, five years after the consolidation of Greater New York. The magnificent structure was the work of Carerre & Hastings, one of the leading architectural firms in New York at the turn of the century. The building is a testament to the belief of the firm's partners that French Renaissance design, as adapted to American needs, was the most appropriate style for that period. The brick and stone building, dramatically sited on a hill above the St. George terminal, is visible to all who arrive in Staten Island by ferry, and its tall, clocktower is a welcoming beacon to resident and visitor alike.

Prior to Staten Island's incorporation into New York City, its governmental seat was located at Richmondtown, near the center of the island. Established as the county seat in 1729, Richmondtown became the site of the county court, the county clerk and surrogate office, public stocks, and a jail. Consolidation in 1898 brought with it the abolition of the incorporated villages of Richmond County and the end of county government. Civic offices to serve the new borough were moved from Richmondtown to St. George because the latter was situated in a more convenient location. It was easily accessible from Manhattan's Civic Center and was the terminus of the ferry lines to Manhattan and of the island's growing mass transit system. Prior to the construction of Borough Hall, civic offices were located in the Richmond Building on the corner of Richmond Terrace and York Avenue in New Brighton. In 1904 construction began on the new building and the New York Times wrote:

Staten Island formally acknowledged, declared, and gloried yesterday afternoon that she was an integral part of the Greater New York on the occasion of the laying of the cornerstone of the Richmond Borough Hall at St. George.

Designed with a scale and grandeur that rivaled that of City Hall, Brooklyn Borough Hall (formally Brooklyn City Hall), and the new Borough Hall in the Bronx, Staten Island's Borough Hall was to be a symbol of the unified borough and a source of pride to all Staten Island residents. The commission for the new Borough Hall design was awarded to the prestigious firm of Carrere & Hastings. The firm was an appropriate choice for this civic monument since John Carrere was the most prominent architect residing on the island. Carrere, who was closely involved with the development of Staten Island's new civic center,

aided in the choice of sites for the borough's new buildings, and Carrere & Hastings designed the new ferry terminal (1904, burned), the County Courthouse (1913-1919), and the St. George Brance of the New York Public Library at 10 Hyatt Street, as well as other public libraries throughout the borough.

John Merven Carrere (1858-1911) and Thomas Hastings (1860-1929) were the leading American exponents of the design philosophy of the Trench Ecole des Beaux-Arts. While both men had attended the Ecole in the late 1870s and early 1880s, each belonged to a different atelier and they did not meet until after their graduation when both were employed by the office of McKim, Mead & White. In 1885 the two architects established a partnership, first renting space in a small back room of McKim, Mead & White's office and then moving to an old Federal style residence at 3 Bowling Green.

According to David Gray, who wrote a biography of Hastings in 1933, it was Hastings who did most of the firm's design work, while Carrere managed the office and negotiated with clients and contractors. The firm's earliest commissions were from real estate developer Henry Flagler. Flagler was a friend and parishioner of Thomas Hastings' father, the Rev. Doctor Thomas Hastings, minister of the West Presbyterian Church in New York and president of the Union Theological Seminary. For Flagler, Carrere & Hastings designed the Ponce de Leon and Alcazar Hotels in St. Augustine, "Whitehall," the Flagler estate in Palm Beach, and several churches. Flagler's patronage established the success of the firm and commissions for residences, churches, hotels, and office buildings followed. In 1891 Carrere & Hastings gained prominence for the design they submitted to the competition for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The proposal placed second to Reins & LaFarge's winning scheme. It was, however, their winning design in the New York Public Library competition that established Carrere & Hastings as one of the leading firms in the United States.

Most of the work designed by Carrere & Hastings was in the French Renaissance tradition and this accorded with the philosophy espoused by Thomas Hastings in his numerous articles and lectures. Hastings believed that American life was still motivated by the forces that had brought about the Renaissance. He saw himself as a Renaissance architect and beli

The Arc is the linchpin of the historic axis (L'Axe historique) — a sequence of monuments and grand thoroughfares on a route which goes from the courtyard of the Louvre Palace to the outskirts of Paris. The monument was designed by Jean Chalgrin in 1806, and its Iconographic program pitted heroically nude French youths against bearded Germanic warriors in chain mail and set the tone for public monuments, with triumphant nationalistic messages, until World War I.

The monument stands 49.5 m (162 ft) in height, 45 m (150 ft) wide and 22 m (72 ft) deep. It is the second largest triumphal arch in existence.[2] Its design was inspired by the Roman Arch of Titus. The Arc de Triomphe is so colossal that three weeks after the Paris victory parade in 1919, marking the end of hostilities in World War I, Charles Godefroy flew his Nieuport biplane through it, with the event captured in a newsreel

South Pole: Daily Flight Schedule

Most of the fuel at the South Pole (for generators, boilers, etc) is flown in on LC-130s. They load up 8,000 gallons at McMurdo, fly to the South Pole, unload somewhere between 2,500 and 3,500 gallons, and then fly back to McMurdo. The last couple weeks of the season are always pretty busy.

Saas - Software as a Service: High-impact Emerging Technology - What You Need to Know: Definitions, Adoptions, Impact, Benefits, Maturity, Vendors

Software as a service (SaaS, typically pronounced [s?s]), sometimes referred to as "on-demand software," is a software delivery model in which software and its associated data are hosted centrally (typically in the (Internet) cloud) and are typically accessed by users using a thin client, normally using a web browser over the Internet.
While practically every Internet service (such as Web search engine or web-based email) is driven by some underlying software, the term software as a service is often used in the context of business applications, and in some cases even more narrowly as software in a category which has on-premises software; i.e., equivalent applications that are installed in businesses' computer networks or personal computers.
SaaS has become a common delivery model for most business applications, including accounting, collaboration, customer relationship management (Crm), enterprise resource planning (Erp), invoicing, human resource management (Hrm), content management (Cm) and service desk management. SaaS has been incorporated into the strategy of all leading enterprise software companies.
