vickayyy
teeth twin perfect notes i asked you to play me
the third and fourth movement from shostakovich's concerto number one in e flat major
(is that correct, victoria?)
i made you promise not to say "oh shoot" when you messed up because i can never tell when you mess up
it sounded so perfect to me, i saw your face fall when you were done playing
you're installing new cogs in yr brain
you're softer than most people i know, making me an unecessary and delicious vegan dinner
i did some dishes
you apologized for insects
i said let em' be
your dad has a weird name
you have a beautiful name
the couch that someone wasteful threw on the treelawn was more comfortable than our beds
we sat on it and said, i don't want to get up!
until the woman who owned the house of the yard we were sitting on a couch in
came out and said, "you probably don't want to sit on that"
and went inside
and we wondered what happened on the couch
and you said, no matter what happened to it i don't think it would gross me out enough to not want to sit on it
i said yeah me either, unless some little kid got raped on it or something
you said yeah, in that case it should be burned and not thrown on the tree lawn
but we both knew, a couch that new and nice and comfortable in the yard of someone with things like the things that were in it
probably just had a baby throw up on the corner of it or something
when we walked back from the phoenix it was gone

Work by Dublin-based artist Meadhbh O'Connor.
Title: Stellar-Music Fantasy
Date: 2009
Materials: wood, brass, eight steel-core cello strings, eight ebony pegs, cast iron, steel.
Dimensions: within 2 x 1 x 1 metres (h x w x d)
Handmade, hybrid astronomical and musical instrument. This piece was based on an instrument used historically to measure the positions of the stars. Instead of taking angular readings, this instrument’s measurements are in musical notes, marked along the brass arc. Cello strings were added to the piece and can be tensioned using pegs. The piece has two eyepieces, one on a movable alidade, and the other on the main frame of the sextant. The frame was attached to a cast iron stand and can rotate both vertically and horizontally.
This was my graduate piece, and was a winner at the RDS Student Art Awards 2009.
Photographed here in the Dublin mountains at night.

give me an F
The Funny thing about this, other than the hilarious pose (the windows of the garage are so high that I had to stand on my tiptoes just to see my own face, from nose up) is that my husband was singing a Bruce Cockburn song that gave me a morning ear worm:
"Hear the cry in the tropic night
Should be the cry of love but it's a cry of fright
Some people never see the light
Till it shines through bullet holes"
("Tropic Moon" from The Trouble With Normal, Bruce Cockburn the Magnificent)
The other Funny thing is that maybe I'm the only one who sees the F next to my chin. I think it's a chair in the garage.
My middle name is Fern. I was never a Fan of F-Troop. I like Flowers and the Fragrance of gardenias.
Looking at my Flabby arms, I am tempted to use the other F word. And then the other F word.
I used this picture in today's selF-portrait. This is not it.
*Here are the rest of the lyrics; they're worth reading, though not, in any way, Funny.
"Away from the river
Away from the smoke of the burning
Fearful survivors
Subject of government directives
One sad guitar note
Echoes of the wall of the jungle
Seen from the air they're just targets with nowhere to run to
Children of rape
Raised on malnutrition
Men in camouflage
Filled with a sense of mission
Light through the wire mesh
Plays on the president's pistol
Like the gleam of a bead of sweat in the flow of a candle
Hear the cry in the tropic night
Should be the cry of love but it's a cry of fright
Some people never see the light
Till it shines through bullet holes
The tropic moon
Bathing a beach fringed with palms
Glitters on shells
And beach tar and coke cans
And on the night-coloured boat
And on the barrels of guns
In the rage in the hearts of these men is the seed of a wind they call
Kingdom Come
Hear the cry..."

The scale of E major... yawn...
I been told if you want to learn to play the guitar properly you need to knuckle down and do the theory bit aswell. Makes sense.
I was told it was boring and f**k me, thats not wrong.
This weekend i have started to delve into scales, here is the workings to my first attempt, the scale of E. I knew the frets before hand, so set myself the challenge to understand why. Its midnight now and think enough is enough for tonight.
I think i am understanding it more but it doesnt take 5 minutes so i have a long way to go yet.
the blue note
In a musical scale, maybe you could hear a note that will choke your head. Of course, the note isn't right. Isn't proportional, isn't symmetric, isn't harmonical. It's Blue! Blue note.

Rave On, 2009 (Year End Music Favourites)
I've noticed that making this list was somewhat more difficult this year. I've grown so attached to many of these albums that at times they've become a close friend, or like a warm blanket I can curl up with. I feel like I've listened to more music this year than in my entire life. So many new musicians and artists to enjoy and love. It's extremely hard to try and pick a favourite, as most of you know, so please understand that I absolutely love every single album on this list. Some albums spoke to me over others, and most were completely different when compared to each other. This year brought me a lot of folk and instrumental bands to listen to, and I can't help but find that at this point in my life that is what I connect best with.
If you have a chance, please check out any of these artists that appeal to you, they're all worth it.

Inspired by Rosie although hers are much better!! I don't even mind the noise so much in this picture. I really do need to get some better lights though. I think the noise kinda adds to the feeling of the picture for me.

Genius? NOT
This was the bassoon looking of the 2 midi drivers they made. a million buttons, unmarked that have multiple functions and a tube to blow in to add breath control to the midi sound that randomly comes out as you press buttons. So strange! The lamest thing they did - IMHO - every button has pitch up and down, so you can actually play random piano chords with intonation that is not possible on any known planet - just by missing the exact middle of each button. AMAZED....

45: Violin
Feb 14 2011. My husband's Violin.
One of the things I love most about my husband is his commitment, determination, and passion. He has always loved music and particularly the violin. Two years ago he decided he wanted to learn, despite being 35 years old, never having played a musical instrument of any kind, and having very long working hours. He made a point of playing everyday, and fitting lessons and practice time into his hectic schedule and has actually become pretty good.
This is his violin.

Stairway
"Stairway" wurde hier erneut eingestellt. In bisheriger Ansicht war es mir doch ein bi?chen zu rauschig geworden. Versehentlich wurde die ISO-Einstellung nicht reduziert.
Man findet diese Treppe wenn man sich von der Altstadt uber den Benedikt kommend dem Kalkberg uber den au?eren Weg nahert. Alternativ nimmt man den hinteren Weg von der Gipse und dem Ziegenverschlag. Mein Karteneintrag ist da nicht 100%ig genau.

1963 Harmony H1260 Sovereign body front daylight
Much like a '68 I used to own. Harmony Guitars, headquartered in Chicago, used to mass-produce solid-wood instruments for low prices. The Sovereign models were the top of their line, and featured adjustable truss rods. The inside glue work was usually a little sloppy on the kerfing, but the H1260 made some rock history (most famously, the opening notes of "Stairway to Heaven").
stairway to heaven notes for guitar
In 2004, Kevin Malarkey and his six-year-old son, Alex, suffered an horrific car accident. The impact from the crash paralyzed Alex—and medically speaking, it was unlikely that he could survive. “I think Alex has gone to be with Jesus,” a friend told the stricken dad.
But two months later, Alex awoke from a coma with an incredible story to share. Of events at the accident scene and in the hospital while he was unconscious. Of the angels that took him through the gates of heaven itself. Of the unearthly music that sounded just terrible to a six-year-old. And, most amazing of all . . . Of meeting and talking to Jesus.
The Boy Who Came Back from Heaven is the true story of an ordinary boy’s most extraordinary journey. As you see heaven and earth through Alex’s eyes, you’ll come away with new insights on miracles, life beyond this world, and the power of a father’s love.

Record Store Days: From Vinyl to Digital and Back Again
?There’s nothing as glamorous as a record store.” ? Paul McCartney In this era of digital downloads, the small, indie record shop might sound like an anachronism. But, in fact, record stores served as community centers, information exchanges, clubs, art galleries, and launching pads for numerous bands and record labels. Record Store Days takes a long, loving look back at the retail refuges that enthralled at least three generations of music lovers, providing a glimpse into the special alchemy that makes a great record store. Written and compiled by two record store veterans, this lively and nostalgic anthology includes photographs and reminiscences from musicians, music industry executives, former record store clerks, and, of course, avid fans.
