Floral motif carved on the window panels. The upper level has louver panes with hinges. This house was built in 1917 at Alor Gajah, Malacca and relocated and reconstructed at FRIM's compound in an effort to conserve Malay traditional houses. The design was based on "Bumbung panjang" type. Virtually all the materials for construction are forest products of low thermal capacity for comfortable living in the hot and humid weather. Timber, palm trunks, bamboo were used. Thatched attap roofing material were made from palm leaves such as bertam (Eugeissona tristis), nipah (Nypa fruticans) or rembia (Metroxylon sagu). Wooden shingles and clay tiles were once widely used among the more affluent in the society.
