Boardwalk

Boardwalk

The 101-year old Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk features both modern and classic thrill rides, restaurants, and video game arcades on a mile of sandy beach.

In the Beginning. . .
The Boardwalk’s roots go back to 1865, when John Leibrandt opened a public bathhouse near the mouth of the San Lorenzo River. Other bathhouses followed; scores of tourists began visiting Santa Cruz to enjoy this highly-touted “natural medicine” of bathing in salt water. Soon more concessions sprang up including restaurants, curio shops, and photo stands.
A Casino opened in 1904 but on June 22, 1906, the building was completely destroyed by fire. By summer’s end, famed architect William Weeks was drawing up plans for the new Casino, complete with ballroom, the Plunge indoor swimming pool, a pleasure pier, and boardwalk.
500 people worked on the project, and on June 22, 1907, exactly one year after the devastating fire, the new attractions opened. More than 1,200 people attended the opening ball, and thousands more watched outside as the Casino and Boardwalk were illuminated by thousands of white lights.
And Then There Were RIDES!
Tthe Boardwalk’s first thrill ride, the L.A. Thompson Scenic Railway, opened in 1908. The four-minute coaster ran on one mile of wooden track and cost $35,000 to build.
In 1911 European woodcarver Charles I.D. Looff delivered a new merry-go-round to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, complete with hand-carved horses and two chariots. The carousel celebrates its 96th anniversary at the park in 2007, and its original 342-pipe, 1894 band organ is still in operation.
They replaced the Scenic Railway ride to make way for a “modern” wooden roller coaster. The Giant Dipper coaster opened in 1924 and soon became the park’s most popular ride; in 2007 the Dipper’s ridership will reach 55 million.

Geneve

Geneve

Geneva ( /d???ni?v?/; French: Geneve, IPA: [??n?v]; Arpitan: Geneva, IPA: [?d?z?n?va])[note 1] is the second-most-populous city in Switzerland (after Zurich) and is the most populous city of Romandie (the French-speaking part of Switzerland). Situated where the Rhone exits Lake Geneva, it is the capital of the Republic and Canton of Geneva. While the municipality itself (city centre ville de Geneve) has a population (as of December 2010) of 191,415, the canton of Geneva (Republique et Canton de Geneve, which includes the city) has 457,628 residents (as of December 2009).[2] The agglomeration has 1,240,000 residents.
Geneva is a global city, a financial centre, and a worldwide centre for diplomacy and the most important UN international co-operation centre with New York thanks to the presence of numerous international organizations, including the headquarters of many of the agencies of the United Nations[3] and the Red Cross.[4] It is also the place where the Geneva Conventions were signed, which chiefly concern the treatment of wartime non-combatants and prisoners of war.
Geneva has been described as the third European financial centre after London and Zurich,[5] and the world's eighth most important financial centre by the Global Financial Centres Index, ahead of Frankfurt and Sydney,[6] and a 2009 survey by Mercer found Geneva to have the third-highest quality of life of any city in the world (narrowly outranked by Zurich).[7] The city has been referred to as the world's most compact metropolis and the "Peace Capital".[8] In 2009, Geneva was ranked as the fourth most expensive city in the world.[9]

On my way to Ireland I got an involuntary stay in Copenhagen because my plane did not leave on time.

I noticed an abandoned station near my hotel Park Inn. When I came home I did some research, it appears to be a line being built to the airport and the station might be Femoren.
