Repairing my Fuji S3's damaged Firewire and USB port I bought this camera body from a good friend for almost nothing, about a year ago. I took it knowing that it had been well used and needed some TLC. So far it's been a great camera (albeit with the known speed issues dealing with the raw files). This weekend I was feeling adventurous and armed with a smaller soldering iron tip I figured I would give it a go. I should disclaim that I've been into electronics and building stuff since I was 12 - so I have some experience in working with ICs and other electrostatic-sensitive devices - doing this sort of thing without the know-how is very dangerous to your camera gear (plus, I found out how to do it from someone with access to a service manual :-) I got both ports fixed, but I came to the conclusion that the design is quite poor and there is little protection against strain on the ports. USB as a surface-mount part should be more reinforced. Time to upgrade to a D90 or D300. Touring Setup Jandd front and rear racks Novara panniers with cooking/food supply up front. Thermarest on top. On the rear rack is sleeping bag and tent Trailer holds everything else (clothes, electronics, maps. repair stuffs, laptop etc. I wouldn't take the trailer on a tour with descents. She's been doing this since Fall 05 (& with Snowflake the whole time :)), she's come a long way since she started but still has lots of work to do. For the most part, she LOVES it! (She was initially referred from ECI - Early Childhood Intervention/ Birth-3 - because of gross motor delays... at the time it was attributed to weak abdominal muscles as she had umbilical hernia repair surgery at 21mo. - at 2, she was still not running, jumping, etc. & at 3 she was only running in an odd way... she could jump off but not up at the time - neither is a problem now... but is still slightly delayed there/ low muscle tone, but more motor planning issues than anything else... She is also seen in the Orthopaedic clinic at Scottish Rite Hospital for some other issues...) (Therapeutic HorseBack Riding is good for many areas of therapy, not just gross motor - they spend more time taking care of the horse than riding it... brushing, putting her gear on, feeding, etc... lots of sensory and empathy work in there as well. :)) Bichon; Coton de Tulear: Risa MG 7966 It's been 5 days since her second abdominal hernia operation but she's doing well. She sure is a little trooper...hard to keep her down. She's not supposed be jumping around, but that's like telling a gazelle to quit jumping. Camera Repair
Precision Camera Repair Above is a shot at the Best Buy Geek Squad counter after getting my camera fixed under warranty, with a note saying they preformed "lens and associated items repair". Yet the exact same focus problem remains. I had Best Buy send it back in with extra instructions to explain in more detail how to find the problem. I even talked to a Geek Squad supervisor to make sure they provided plenty of detail about the problem. Apparently it wasn't enough. Precision Camera Repair left me a message saying, "Our technicians reviewed you unit but were unable to find anything wrong with it. It working up to the factory specifications." To show the problem: Turn on the camera. Camera should be in center point focus mode (the default). Do nothing other than hit the shutter button while aimed at something more than a few feet away (past about 5-10 feet). Do not Zoom! The camera can focus if zoomed (enough) or when shooting closeups. It cannot focus at a distance when shot at the widest setting. Look at the photo up close and see it is not in focus. That is not even close to factory specifications. This camera used to be sharp when focusing on objects at a distance. This is not due to motion blur or camera shake. Image Stabilization is on. It happens with or without flash. Below shows where the Camera focus point was on that photo (according to PhotoME). And a blow up of that focus area showing it is not in focus. There is no part of this photo in focus. Camera and FlashGun I just found a very old camera from my Dad's Trunk ... I think its 80's camera ... Can Anybody help me out with where i can get it repaired. Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada The Luxor is among the most recognizable hotels on the Strip because of its striking design. Designed by hotel architect Veldon Simpson, the main portion of the hotel is a 350-foot (110 m)-high, 30-story pyramid of black glass (in comparison, the Great Pyramid of Giza with original capstone topped out at 481 feet (147 m). The footprint of the pyramid is a 556-foot (169 m) square. The hotel is marked by a large obelisk with the name of the property in lighted letters, while the porte-cochere travels underneath a massive recreation of the Great Sphinx of Giza. The pyramid was originally conceived with a tram connecting the north side of the hotel with the neighboring Excalibur Hotel and Casino. This was soon removed for later property changes. A second tram linkage now connects the east-facing porte-cochere with both the Excalibur and Mandalay Hotel and Casino. The pyramid is clad in very dark bronze glass, which appears black on clear days and a dark, golden-bronze on overcast days. There are 30 guest-room floors, six higher service floors (including the SkyBeam penthouses) and a large sublevel. Many of the original aesthetics of the external property have been eliminated. The original front water and laser show was the first to succumb. The laser show was stopped due to complaints of stray beams illuminating aircraft on approach to the airport across the street. The fountains themselves were removed and replaced by a parking lot and the new tram station. The tram station and tracks hinder the views of the pyramid tower from the Strip. The pyramid tower is also rather lost to view as it has been surrounded by the large East/West Towers, the two Mandalay Bay towers and the large auditorium on the SW side. The pyramid tower has, at times, also been transformed into a four-sided billboard (with three sides in use as of March '09) for advertisements. Additionally, the Starlight Lighting System — a nightly remote-controlled show of lights along the pyramids corners powered by thousands of circuit boards and computer chips — was scaled back tremendously as it was plagued by faulty equipment and power shutdowns. The tip of the pyramid contains a fixed-position spotlight that points directly upward and is claimed to be the brightest beam in the world at over 42 billion candle power.[7] It is visible from anywhere in the Las Vegas valley at night, and can be seen at flight level from above Los Angeles, California, over 275 miles (443 km) away. At ground level, on clear nights, the beam could also be seen as far south as Laughlin and even as far north as Mesquite or Beatty. The beam is visible straight ahead when driving northbound on US 93 in Arizona, north of Kingman before reaching Hoover Dam. In the spring, the bright light attracts huge numbers of moths into the light beam, creating a phenomenon that has been likened to snow. Light is generated using 45 Xenon arc lamps[8] of 7 kilowatts each. When turned on, the lamps heat up to over 800 degrees Fahrenheit. IMG 2626 24-karat gold-plated 1981 De Lorean: John Z. De Lorean began his career in the automotive industry with Chrysler in 1948, later serving Packard and General Motors. After a remarkable record of achievement during a sixteen year career with GM, De Lorean left that company and began raising money to build a revolutionary sports car to rival the Corvette. Between 1974 and 1981, he conceived, financed, and launched an independent, mass-production automobile manufacturing facility in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland. It was called the De Lorean Motor Company. Production of "De Loreans" began early in 1981, with a first shipment of 500 cars to the United States taking place in April. The De Lorean cars were styled by Giugiaro and featured gullwing doors and unpainted stainless steel bodies. The cars had a low center of gravity "backbone" chassis allowing the occupants to be seated quite low. The rear-mounted engine was a Renault OHC V-6 with electronic fuel injection, delivering power through a Renault five-speed transaxle. The engine location, however, gave the De Lorean somewhat disappointing handling characteristics, including understeer when cornering. In spite of engineering faults, sales for the $25,000 De Lorean cars were good. However, in January, 1982, unsold cars began piling up and the company ran out of money. By late February, the Dunmurry factory had passed into receivership and De Lorean attempted unsuccessfully to raise more funding. The gold car displayed here is the first of two 24-karat gold-plated De Loreans built. The cars were offered as part of a promotional campaign for American Express "Gold" cardholders, appearing in the December, 1979, American Express Christmas catalog. Cost, a princely $85,000! I matched the brushes by size at an old time auto electric and carb repair shop called Ole's Carb Shop in San Bruno, CA. The match was not a direct Nippon Denso catalog brush replacement part. New from an Acura dealer, a replacement heater motor is $300-370 without labor. An EBay aftermarket heater motor is around $55-85. [57.365] Learning To Torque Installing the new clutch, as I got my flywheel back from the machine shop. The bolts had to be torqued down to the specs in the BMW manual, so I was learning to do that. :) This picture showcases the pressure plate, with the flywheel and clutch inside of all this! (The source of the trolls' tobacco, which is still delivered regularly, remains mysterious.) . . . Soon after the Exile the LBT noticed the lack of traffic; upon investigating, he discovered a group of schoolchildren playing unsupervised on the bridge, and cars standing still and abandoned for their lack of gas. The children fled when they saw the troll, but returned to watch as he tossed a handful of glittering powder up to observe its fall, summoned a passing pigeon to converse with, and then began carrying the derelict automobiles off the bridge. He carefully lined them up along the empty streets, and when one of the children came near enough, he asked why they were not in school. . . . By the next morning hand-painted signs in neat calligraphic script hung at either end of the bridge, advertising classes in French, Russian, mathematics and etiquette. (The LBT has since demonstrated fluency in some two dozen languages, but he admits that he soft-pedaled his qualifications at first. Free We were out for the usual Saturday morning loop ride yesterday but never made it up the big climb on account of a shredded tire. I followed our leader and instigator on fast flat section of the route and was startled by the loud *POP* of a blowout. I don't know what he ran over, but his rear tire had a serious gash. He booted it with Abe Lincoln (George wasn't available). Although the repair seemed adequate he wasn't going to test it on a mountain descent. So we cut the ride short and headed home. After we said our goodbyes and the group split up, I headed for home. For some reason I decided to break with habit and take an alternate route. That's when I found the *FREE* stuff. I had been needing a new pair of gloves. And that's just what I found... a pair of unused, good quality leather cycling gloves. Score! I also picked up some everyday Corelle dishware (made in USA!) with a pattern that matches nicely with my bike-kitchen. So, serendipity supplied some stuff. Screw in Tire - July 2009 0730b A closer view. I picked up a couple of sheetrock screws in my tire out on the Oregon coast. The local Les Schwab dealer did the repair for free. I had only noticed the one at right but when they repaired the tire they noted that the one at lower left had also punctured through. What are the odds that not one, but two sheetrock screws will be perfectly vertical and straight through the tread groove? Hmmm. Inside - Marshall Footswitch 6-pin DIN Connector Repair I found that the source of a lot of the footswitch intermittency and channel noise (crackling/hissing) was a result of the way the 6-pin DIN connector did not physically attach to the rear panel of the chassis. To remedy the problem, I drilled a very small hole through the chassis, inserted a small screw through the hole, and screwed into the connector, securely holding it against the chassis. Now things seem to be clean and quiet and my footswitch is no longer flickering on and off. Another word of advice is to make sure the footswitch cable does not hang from the connector, causing undue stress on the weak build quality. Simply pass the footswitch cable, from the front, through the handle on top of the head, and then down to the connector on the rear. Marshall TSL Footswitch DIY Repair Ah, the life of a Marshall TSL owner. The wires of this model footswitch are notoriously fragile, and DIY repairs like this are pretty common. I tinned each splice with solder so hopefully this time I've fixed it for good. It works 100% perfect for now. We'll see if it lasts. It was either this... or drop $130 on a new footswitch. I should have included something for scale. Those wires are each only about as thick as a paperclip. There is also a problem with the Trailer lights indicators etc so i goto get my multimeter out.If i could just stop Jerry from weeing on the tent, as well as that the thought of cats getting in an marking it fills me with dread, ill keep my fingers crossed. High quality car ads were what was in my head while taking this/ The neutral colors, with the red ring and L there for contrast... but my use of flash and limited DoF didn't help much. But hey! That's why I'm doing this! For this shot, I diffused my 430EX and bounced it off a piece of paper I was holding in another hand. Any tips for bouncing flashes and exposing properly with the presence of a flash would be much appreciated. I also wonder how effective stacking this would have been. I dislike that the brightest part of the photo is out of focus (and there's some dust I should have cloned out) Red Ring Of Death After 2 years of being an apologist for Microsoft's Xbox 360 hardware, my Xbox finally kicked the bucket, suffering complete hardware failure as indicated by the infamous "Red Ring of Death."
