I was inspired today by one of the kids toys on the living room floor. I dragged it to the studio and played with some ideas, and those ideas let me to go pick up this great wooden abacus Tried a bunch of different angles with the camera and with the light to try to make it interesting. (Probably not focused either because I am tired and distracted by other projects. Plus I know how well things come out when I try to be creative.) Anyway, it popped for me when I tried it with the light behind the abacus... suddenly if got interesting at last. I took a few pictures, cropped and bordered this one, and now I can go to bed knowing I made another good one. Camera with the 50mm, speedlite at 1/128 with a Stofen on.

D-Arts Wargreymon, he is my favorite digimon of all time. I use to have the transforming figure of him but his joints got loose quickly as I remember. So this figure is like near perfect..tight joints, very show accurate, and amazing paint job. I love his chrome claws.

Year 2, Day 138: Punk

Once upon a time, almost 10 years ago, I was in the Navy and stationed on board the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). My best friend was a guy named Keith Lane, and he was an amazing artist. He'd draw these awesome comic strips that we'd laugh about for days, and whenever we'd get ready to go off of the boat when we were in port, he'd print the letters P U N K across the fingers of his left fist in Old English style font.

One day as we were getting ready to head out into town, I held out my fist & said, "Here, me too." So he grabbed my right hand, printed P U N K, then grabbed my left & printed J R. He was "Punk", I was "PunkJr". After that, it kinda stuck, and I've used it online ever since. =)

The Old man of Coniston from Dow Crag

The peak in the distance is the Old Man of Coniston, the walk we did yesterday was just short of 11 miles with around 3000 feet of ascent, amazing views from the tops yesterday!!

The Old Man of Coniston is a fell in the Furness Fells in the English Lake District. Kid's room 2.0 with cats

I spent all of last Saturday cleaning the Kid's room. Some of Friday too, come to think of it. It was the mother of all messes, and he was too discouraged to do anything about it (except filling plastic bags with random things, which ended up puzzling me greatly). He also had a dire need for a place to sit and read (or sit and watch a movie on his computer, for that matter). I was in need of a guest bed. So I solved the issue and he now has a loveseat that can turn into a full double bed. The cats' reaction? Hurray, Mommy cleaned our room and bought us a new loveseat!

A set of plastic ramp walkers were some of the earliest premiums from Grins & Smiles & Giggles & Laughs cereal. They were created by Hasbro for Ralston-Purina and given away in boxes. There were five different walkers, representing the five mascots used by the cereal.

The fun characters and fantastic details here are typical of the incredible cereal premiums of the 1970s. Kids of the '70s had fun at the breakfast table!

Neat retro toy

Jason and I were at Tuesday Morning the other day and saw this vintage style tin toy. It was really cool, but way too expensive.

To make it work, all you had to do was pull the lever on the side. Then, very smoothly, the amusement park ride would spin around.

I liked it, but not enough to spend $30.

Bandai Godzilla Jr. [2002] Tag

Bandai released their first 6-inch Godzilla Jr. figure in 2002 during the release of “Godzilla X MechaGodzilla” in theaters. Although this figure is a scaled-down version of Bandai’s 1995 Godzilla Jr., it only stands slightly shorter than the figure it originates from. It also sports a slightly more accurate paintjob and dimensions truer to the character’s first and only appearance in “Godzilla vs. Destroyah”. The figure is molded in dark green vinyl and it features light green spray-painted highlights on its belly, back, dorsal plates, and white highlights on its toe and fingernails. Its tag features Godzilla Jr. during his flight with Destroyah. In different fashion than Bandai’s other tags, figures released in 2002 showcased Bandai’s “Godzilla X MechaGodzilla” toy line-up on the inside of the tag.

Godzilla Jr. was first released with a folding tag, but in 2004, the figure was reissued with a single-sheet tag. The tags were exactly the same, except that the line-up wasn’t present due to the fact that there wasn’t an inside of the tag. 2004 saw the 6-inch Godzilla Jr. released again, but this time in the Godzilla 50th Memorial Box Set. The figure is a near duplication to the two previous releases.

King Caesar [1993] Tag

King Caesar was released by Bandai in 1993 along with five other classic kaiju and Godzillasaurus from 1991's "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah". He was featured as Godzilla's ally in 1974's "Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla". It stands around 9 inches tall and varies somewhat from the character it represents. Greatly visible when the figure is seen from the side, it is much chunkier than the actual kaiju. The figure also has pupils, while the monster did not have them in the movie. Bandai scaled down this figure in 1998 for the "Godzilla Island" line. It is very similar to this version. Hopefully someday we will get a new and improved version of King Caesar.

Aranea Cullen: "Depends, do I have to promise I won't kill anyone?" He grumbles, glancing back to the taxi stand. "Speak, little one."

Jaina Lefevre giggles a little and moves closer to drop down and sit nearby. "Nuh uh. But you gots to be a Daddy-type person." She shakes her head. "Not to me though."

Aranea Cullen: His head tilts to her."Explain." he remains otherwise motionless except for rise and fall of his chest.

Jaina Lefevre sighs. "It's River. He's my bestest friend, and his Mommy-person forgots him. For a whole week. My Mama lets him sleep in our house, but he doesn't like Nanny much...and he's a boy, and boys need Daddy persons." She picks at a sock ribbon and glances up at Randulf through her bangs. "We was talking and he said if'n he had to pick a Daddy person, it'd be you, but he don't think you would want him 'cause he's not good enough or somethin'. But River really loves you....so...I figured, since he's kinda shy..." and she's clearly NOT "...I'd ask for 'im."

Aranea Cullen: His head would quirk at her. "I have no real home either little one. I sleep under the stars with dirt below me.... I.... "he trails off and looks back to the taxi stand. "I'll think about it. I'm... more of a big brother type, than really a father. Last time I had children, they grew up, betrayed me and in the battle, they died and the wound is still deep in my soul. I"m not eager to take on a charge, little one... but... I'll think about it"

Jaina Lefevre shakes her head and sighs. "You 'dults 'think about it' means yer scared. And River don't like having one place he's gotta be. It's not about a /place/ Mister Randulf, it's about a /person/. If ya care about River and want him to feel like he's got someone that loves him and watches out for him, and makes it so mean peoples are -scared- to hurt him 'cause you'll make 'em pay...like I gots with Mommy and Mama...then you're a Daddy. If he gets scared and needs a hug sometimes, you do that too. It's not hard. It's just really /really/ important."

Aranea Cullen: He looks to the girl. "I try and do that as a big brother..... " He looks back to the taxi stand

Jaina Lefevre leans closer. "A big brother can disappears and ignore...and a big brother ain't /scary/. A Daddy...that's scary..."
Jaina Lefevre is using the 'do I gotta make you swear again?' voice....

Aranea Cullen: He looks at her when she uses that tone. "Ya know. you're one manipulative little bitch." He laughs.

Jaina Lefevre just smiles at him, eyes glinting. "I knowed what those words mean." She sighs. "Look, Mister Randulf. River /already/ loves you. How hard could it be?" She glances up at him, then down, to toy with her ribbon on her sock. "Or is it too hard for you and you're skeered?"

Aranea Cullen: "And now you're trying to goad me. " He shakes his head slowly. "I've been manipulated by everyone in this city.... and now a little girl?" His head makes a motion of rolling his eyes before coming to rest back upon her. "If the boy wishes me to be like a father to him, then he must come to me.... I do not interfere or intervene in the lives of those dear to me, other than to be in the background, to yes. Offer support like a big brother. I see potential in the lad but he must show his metal in approaching me. I owe him for his kindness this is true, but I will not step in possible unwanted grounds by him simply cause his best friend said he wanted me for a dad."

The Kitten and Goldfish series was taken to integrate two opposite elements: a plush toy and a live goldfish. Four photos total were initially taken of the kitten, but the intent is to present them as a triptych that tells the story of desire, temptation, and pursuit.

The first photo is of the kitten looking at a goldfish swimming by. The goldfish is his object of desire.

The next photo in the sequence depicts the kitten leaning up against the fishbowl, driven by the forces of temptation. There are two variations of this shot. One is of the kitten with his paws up on the fishbowl, ready to get his fuzzy little paws on the goldfish. The second variation is taken with the kitten sheepishly looking back toward the camera as if he got caught.

The last photo of the series shows the kitten reaching his little paw into the fishbowl in pursuit of the object of his desire.

The goldfish is intentionally colored while the rest of the frame remains black and white for the purpose of singling out the object of desire and manipulating the viewer to devote his or her attention to the goldfish as well (bringing the viewer’s focus into line with the focus of the kitten who is the main subject of the photograph).

Several elements stand out in this sequence. First, the use of a water-filled fishbowl creates an interesting element of distortion that makes the goldfish in the first photo a bit larger than life, allowing a depiction of how the kitten sees it in his mind. Second, the glass and water offer opportunities to play with reflection and light refraction in the creation of a unique composition. Finally, the juxtaposition of opposites (a live goldfish being pursued by a stuffed-kitten) is further underscored by the opposite nature of the colors that are attributed to them. The kitten is black and white. He is not alive. On the other hand, the goldfish is bright orange showing life, which is what the kitten wants (perhaps because he does not have it).

This series shows a stuffed-animal kitten who initially feels helpless. He is on the other side of the glass bowl, looking at a fish that he cannot have. Photographs two and three show how much he wants the fish, but he is helpless and powerless because he is only a stuffed-animal. In the last photograph, however, the kitty overcomes what would appear to be seemingly insurmountable adversity to pursue his heart’s desire. It is this sentiment that viewers can identify with and relate to. Everyone at some time in their lives has reached a point when they thought that nothing could be done, but the kitten comes as a reminder that with a little determination, things that once seemed impossible can in fact be accomplished by the most insignificant of beings.

How did he get his name?
Well, long story short. The first time we got him to the house and set him outside to go pee (on a leash, and collar) he totally flipped out. No joke. I said, "Oh my god. He's tweaking." so Tweaker has been his name ever since.

10 fun facts; (if I can think of ten):
• He's acts really feline. He'll curl up like a cat and try to sleep on your chest like a cat. He also looooooves playing with cat toys. He'll smack at this little toy ball to make it go rolling and just chase after it the whole time.
• He's still a little tweaker. He seriously at nights just freaks out. It get's to a point where you can't really controll him it get's sooo bad. He just runs in circles then tries to attack your feet.
• He's never going to be potty trained, YEP. It's a breed thing and we've already noticed it on him.
• He's extremely smart, he's learned things faster than any of the dogs we've had.
• He doesn't like playing with toys as much as he'd rather attack your hand or feet.
• He's meanier than any puppy I've ever had.
• He's got a bad habbit of trying to bite your eye balls when you're blinking. (he see's your eyelashes moving, and most of the time he misses your eye and just bites your face)
• This dog never runs out of energy, it's like he's constantly on speed.
• He's actually one IG that I haven't saw freak out over the bathtub. He actually loves jumping in it at night.
• && he LOVES paper towels. He'll just attack them like no other.

Seeing that I've possibly haven't met some of you that's joined this as well.

Ten facts about myself:
• I have depression or well anxiety, but it leads to depression.
• I used to think "hurting" myself was the only thing to keep my mind off of it.
• I don't have a clue who my real dad is, which bothers me so much because he is part of me. I don't even know his name. No one will tell me.
• I love my dogs, YoYo is my favorite, but I love them all. I couldn't live if I didn't have these amazing friends on earth with me.
• I am a country girl at heart.
• I have natural brown, and curly hair, blue eyes, but I straighten my hair all the time. It isn't really curly it's like wavypoofy. :| aha.
• I'm in love with Chevy Trucks and John Deere Tractors.

Log Cabin Quilt-in-a-Day

Which is more than just a little misleading....I took the Log Cabin Quilt-in-a-Day class at the fabric store in Stanberry back in August 1988. I finished sewing the blocks together in one day (a hard day's work!) and had to add the borders later. As I recall, there was only one lucky lady that finished her top completely that day. It took a couple of weeks before I finally added the borders, and even longer to get it in the frame to quilt. It was quilted in the winter months of 1989. Paul was only 2 years old at the time and loved his little John Deere farm toys & Hot Wheels cars. He used the strips as roads while I quilted on it, and even for several years later when the quilt was on my bed. He would always ask first if he could drive his cars on my quilt. The quilt was used for 12 years on my bed before it had to be replaced. Actually, this picture only shows a portion of my quilt. The top row of blocks had to be cut off, because the fabric had worn through from all those years of tucking under the pillows and the husband's beard rubbing on the fabric!

Aldershot telescope

Aldershot observatory is a circular red-brick building with a domed roof standing on Queens Avenue in Aldershot Military Town near Aldershot, England, home to the British Army since circa 1854. Inside is an 8-inch (200 mm) refracting telescope on a German-type equatorial mount with a clockwork drive which will run for about 2 hours without rewinding, this has a facility to vary the drive rate.
The telescope and observatory building were a gift from aviation pioneer Patrick Young Alexander to the British Army, a fact which is recorded by a plaque near the observatory door. It reads: ‘Presented to the Aldershot Army Corps by Patrick Y Alexander Esq 1906’.

In 1891, Patrick Alexander ordered the telescope from the well-known Victorian telescope makers Thomas and Howard Grubb of Dublin with all the usual fittings associated with a professional instrument of the time. It is not entirely clear where the telescope was first installed, accounts vary. It is probable that the telescope was first erected at one of Patrick Alexander's several private workshops in Bath: either 'DeMontalat Wood' or 'The Mount'. The telescope was a substantial instrument, which together with its mounting, must have weighed several tons. The telescope was fully equipped for astronomical observations and Patrick became a fellow member of the Royal Astronomical Society up until 1921. Although he enjoyed showing his telescope to friends and distinguished visitors, any interest he had in astronomy was overshadowed by his other aviation related passions — especially ballooning; the telescope was probably a scientific toy.

Barry Bellinger[1] suggests that the telescope was used to track pilot balloons released into the air, before releasing any main balloons; however, a telescope of this size and type seems ill-suited to such a task.

In 1902 Patrick Alexander offered the telescope to the city of Bath, with all expenses paid to build an observatory, but Bath refused because the cost of upkeep would have to be paid by local taxpayers. The telescope was later dismantled and stored, until a new location was found for it to be sited.

In 1905 Patrick Alexander offered his telescope to the War Office, again including an offer to pay for the construction of an observatory. The offer was accepted and a site was chosen. Building work commenced with pegging out in 1906 with the bulk of the work being carried out by local labour. Work proceeded apace until a long, accurate straight edge was required so that the dome could be correctly positioned. Finding such an edge proved difficult and attracted some publicity at the time. The problem was soon overcome. On August 26, 1906 the dome, which also had been designed by Grubb, was installed and over the next three months, the telescope was put in place and final construction work was completed.

In December 1906 the Aldershot Observatory was officially opened. The ceremony was attended by Patrick Alexander, guests from Aldershot civic council and several high-ranking army officers.

The building is of conventional design. It is principally of redbrick with some white stone masonry, surmounted by a cupola. There are three steps leading up to a heavy ornamental door. The dome was originally covered in a rubberoid material (modified bitumen) but in time this perished and the dome was rebuilt with copper cladding. The building today is generally in good condition.

In the best traditions of Victorian engineering, the dome rotation is controlled by a pulley and rope loop, as is the dome opening mechanism. The dome opening is triangular in shape, a design which limits the usefulness of the telescope because the area of sky visible reduces sharply as the telescope is pointed to the zenith.

Early photographs show the telescope to have been light green in colour. It is now painted a dark British army green.

The location of the observatory can hardly be considered ideal for astronomical observations, even at the time of its construction. It is at a low elevation in an essentially urban setting of an army town with many nearby buildings that date from the time of its construction.[2] It is very near a road that is lit by streetlights, although this was somewhat ameliorated by a clockwork switch inside the observatory that would turn off the nearest streetlights for about 20 minutes.

Just what use the British Army made of their new telescope is a bit of a mystery. It was, apparently, used in the training of officers in astronavigation. The telescope may also have been employed in monitoring experimental flights from HM Balloon Factory established at nearby Farnborough in 1908 (later to become the Royal Aircraft Establishment).

Over the last 100 years, many local amateur and professional astronomers have made use of the telescope.

Vouchers Galore

So this is what my life becomes for a few weeks each school year - a voucher scavenger!

I think vouchers for schools are great things, not only for the school but for me too. Each year, there seems to be more and more people in the office who end up collecting their vouchers for me, and most of these people are ones that I would't usually chat to.

I usually end up thanking them by baking lots of cupcakes for the office to enjoy.

So it's a win win really.
