The first 19 calories were gross, but the last calorie was okay (yes, the bottle contains 20 calories - 2 servings)
Because this beverage is sweetened with Stevia, upon consumption, a licorice-ey sweetness hit my tongue and throat, causing me to make a 'eeeeeewww' face, followed by me picking up the bottle, looking at it while shaking my head…
On a positive note, I got some vitamins from this beverage, so I wont have to eat any vegetables today…

KFC Double Down Sandwich
KFC’s infamous “Double Down” sandwich, quite possibly one of the worst fast food inventions ever. Two strips of greasy bacon, two slices of cheese (Swiss and pepperjack, if I am not mistaken), and KFC colonel’s sauce trashed between two chicken fillets. Not to mention that it is also unacceptably messy. Suggest saving yourself 540 calories and 32 grams of fat.

Yeah, I Eat
warning: the following contains a rant against CVS and a rude grandma. if you are not a fan of rants, are an employee of CVS or if you feel especially protective of rude grandmas, you may want to wait until tomorrow's photo of the day to check up on me.
Just in case I forgot how rude people are capable of being, an unfortunate encounter at a local CVS served to remind me. The exchange went something like this:
the scene opens with me standing at a register with purse open and debit card in my right hand, and a bag of Boston Market in my left. I pay for my tube of Cortisone cream (a consequence of trapsing through the woods yesterday), put the small tube away and start to zip my purse, indicating that the transaction has concluded.
the clerk is an elderly woman with strawberry blonde hair and no apparent filter.
clerk: (to younger coworker at adjoining register) "look how skinny she is!"
(coworker says nothing, but looks at me awkwardly)
me: "um, okay. thanks."
clerk: "you're so skinny!!!"
me: "um, yeah. thanks."
clerk: "do you ever eat?"
me: "are you serious?"
clerk: "do you eat?"
me: (holds up bag of food and points)"yeah. I eat. bye."
clerk: "what, like once every other day?"
me: "really??? I eat. bye."
clerk: "God you're skinny!!!"
me: (flabbergasted, storms out of store)
following a series of unsuccessful attempts by my friend who witnessed this exchange to get me to stop fuming and spouting off all the things I wish I'd thought to say in the moment (a skill I REALLY need to work on) I called the store 20 minutes later and yelled at a somewhat dismissive manager until I felt marginally better.
Am I skinny? Hell yeah. Always have been. My parents are both slim and my attempts to gain weight as a child in hopes of not completely sucking at competitive sports, or being such an appropriate target for nicknames like "twig", "stick", or - in later years when seemingly every other girl was blossoming and I was still stuffing my training bra - "board", failed to yield results. I used to care deeply until I realized that caring deeply about something I couldn't change and didn't need to change was stupid, a waste of time and utterly self-destructive.
Do I eat?? Hell, Saturday's menu included a 3-egg omelette, 2lbs of home fries, half a pizza, and a hot fudge sundae. But I focus on being healthy most days, and when I don't feel good about myself I go outside and do something about it. I've struggled with body image issues my entire life and from time to time, I still do. Do I wish I had real hips? Sometimes. Do I wake up every morning thinking "wow, I'm SO HAPPY I'm an A cup"? Not really. But those are my problems and I'll be damned if I'm going to let some nosy grandmother at CVS tell me I need to eat a sandwich.

Book-to-Action participant Robin Peterson shows ""Nitty Gritty Dirty Farm's Slaw" (in hand) and "Summer Squash Carpaccio with Arugula, Pecorino, and Almonds" (on table) - recipes she found on JanetFletcher.com that she prepared at home to share with audience members.
The Hayward Library's focus on In Defense of Food created ripples throughout the community. Robin, who runs a Summer Camp with elementary school-aged children, shared the book with her Summer Camp participants, tying in the book with healthy-eating lessons. She plans to arrange a week-day field trip to the Hayward Community Gardens for the summer camp kids. "They too are enjoying In Defense of Food and have made posters with the theme, 'Eat Food, Not Too Much, Mostly Plants.' They love going to Kaiser's farmer's markets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and trying new fruits and helping chop it up when we get home. The children are eating healthier, learning about other cultures and what they enjoy eating, being adventurous and trying new fruits and vegetables, and being silly with it too. (They wanted to make their hair out of the very long Chinese green beans.) We also enjoyed a field trip to the health food store. Thanks for recommending this book and getting me excited about it. We are having so much fun."

Burn Energy Drink
Drank it yesterday.
I have no idea what's intended to be so "burning" about this energy drink. It was rather sweetish, tasted very good. The energy was also good.
The drink is by the Coca Cola Company, but apparently only sold in the "Eastern Bloc", which is too bad, because it's real good.

Thai style fried rice
I love making fried rice. It's got to be one of the most satisfying things you can make with very few ingredients.
The basics of fried rice
There are loads of ways of making it and my preferred method came out of sitting in too many food stalls in Asia drinking too many iced coffees while sticking my nose in the direction of the chef.
You need:
Cooked rice- best if room temp or cold, but not straight out of the rice cooker. If you must use it freshly cooked, be sure that it has not been made with too much water.
Oil- peanut, sunflower, canola (not olive as it can't stand high temps and has too strong a flavour)
Onions, garlic, and assorted veggies of choice chopped into small pieces of about the same size. Cashews are also good!
Soy sauce
Fish sauce and/ or other flavourings- you can use an oyster or mushroom sauce, seasoning salt of any flavour you like (ie. chicken seasoning, fish seasoning, etc.) or my fave, tom yam stock cubes.
Fresh cucumber slices
Wedge of lime or lemon
Fresh coriander (Cilantro)
Ground black or white pepper
Method:
Put a wok or large frying pan on high heat (I mean really high). After it is hot, put in the oil.
If you are using meat, seafood, or tofu, fry it now and them set aside to add again later.
Quickly fry up the onions, garlic and veggies for a minute or two moving all the time.
Add the rice on top of the veggies.
Put on some soy sauce and fish sauce or other flavourings and keep turning over scooping from the bottom up and over so as not to mush up the rice and also to mix in the veggies. You can use the spatula/ cooking shovel to "chop" the rice apart if it is clumpy.
Keeping it moving, continue for a minute or two. You can turn the flame down if it starts to stick too much*. If you have fried up meat, seafood, or tofu you can add it in now to be sure that it is hot, but be careful not too cook it too much so that it becomes rubbery or hard.
Turn on to a plate and surround by sliced cucumber. Sprinkle coriander on top, give it two shakes of black or white pepper and put the lime wedge on the side.
Serve with chili sauce on the side.
* This never happens in Thailand because they tend to use more oil than we normally do.
The whole thing is quick, frantically cooked, cheap and very satisfying!

Yeah that IS my leg. And, apparently, MY spider vein. Damn it. I am very pissed off now. And yet, somehow I don't feel motivated to work out just now, I am only mad. And frusterated since the only way to rid myself of this horrid rear leg crap is to workout. I actually like to workout, I love how I feel (and the weight loss isn't bad either). I just don't have time to do it, but maybe I'll just have to suck it up and start working out at night again. That is the only "me" time I will have free. Damn it.

Power Oatmeal Pancakes
From the Clean Eating Cookbook)
Not sure about the point on this one.
Ingredients:
6 egg whites, beaten until fluffy
1/2 C low-fat cottage cheese
1 scoop whey protein
1/2 C oatmeal, uncooked
1/4 C wheat germ
1/4 C flax seed
1 tsp baking powder
1T canola oil
1/2tsp cinnamon
cooking spray
Preparation:
1. Place all ingredients except beaten egg whites into a food processor and pulse or blend until mixture is uniform.
2. Pour blended ingredients into a bowl and add the egg whites. Fold until just blended.
3. Prepare griddle with cooking spray. Ladle pancake mixture onto griddle and cook until both sides are browned.
For topping:
combine about 1/2 C of berries (I used frozen mixed berries) with 1 T water in a saucepan. Mash the berries and bring the mixture to a boil. When it is hot and syrupy, Drizzle over pancakes!
Pancakes for supper
My wife wanted pancakes for supper last night and because I'm trying to convince her that I "need" a new camera and lenses of course I made them for her. As soon as we starting eating I thought "crap I should have taken a photo of these". So today I made pancakes again but this time was setup to photograph them.
Strobist: 430ex and shoot through umbrella camera left, 580ex II on camera pointed at white background behind the pancakes. The 580ex II was set as master and I used TTL to control the light power.

So I'm on this new healthy kick; I really hope it lasts. I went to the gym, ate well portioned healthy meals, and had blueberries to snack on while I studied today. Before today I was always kinda "mehhh" on the subject of blueberries. But today, I don't know what happened, I fell in love with them. Mmmmmm.
