We had an exciting trip to the Dead Sea. Starting
about 8:30 in the morning we all drove out to Ein Gedi
National Park. Here we hiked to Dodim’s Cave and swam
beneath waterfalls. It was a beautiful day! Some of us
finished the day a little redder than when we had
started.
Later we drove to the Dead Sea and ate sack lunches
and attempted to swim. Due to the water’s high mineral
concentration it is not advisable to swim or splash –
just float. When you get out, it feels like you just
had a bath in olive oil. It was a very slimy
experience. We were short on time and rushed straight
to a desert Bedouin community. There we rode camels
and drank Turkish coffee (nasty!) The camel ride was
awesome. I was really happy with my camel and named
him Bob. We had an enjoyable evening around the
campfire, singing praise songs with Kish playing
guitar, and getting to know the other people there for
the night. We retired to the Bedouin tents and slept
on mats, which were not particularly comfortable. Oh,
and they were dirty. At about 4 a.m. we had a close
encounter with the local wildlife: a fox had entered
our tent and was rummaging through one of the intern’s
cookie bags. Rob caught it red-handed with his
flashlight and saved us all from the hungry beast. In
the morning we had some crackers and sweet tea before
heading to Be’er Sheva.
We visited a Canadian-Israeli artist named Rick in
Arad, who sculpts large-scale and beautiful pieces on
powerful subjects like the Holocaust. He explained his
works and shed light on what they meant, and overall
the time we spent there was solemn and reflective.
Next we went to Omer, just outside Beersheva, where me
met up with Steve and Mary Ann, who are involved with
an up and coming house of prayer there. They took us
to Beersheva National Park to visit Abraham’s well and
the remains of ancient Beersheva. It was a very good
and full trip, and all of us tired interns who piled
in the van could hardly keep our eyes open on the ride
back home.
by the way this blog is thanks to christen. a verry efficent lass who actually wrote most of it. I am afraid so much is happenng i often cannot recall details and am in a constant catch mode to process all that i am experiencing and thinking and receving.

I just got back last night from a 4-day trip back to my hometown to attend my nephew's wedding. On the way home yesterday, we drove back through my old neighborhood, past my school, the church in which I was baptized, the grocery store where my mother used to shop for whatever she could afford that day to feed our family, my grandparents' big house on the corner, the ice cream stand, the stream where I used to catch crayfish and the field where we used to fly flimsy paper kites, the backroads of bubbling tar where I would ride my hand-me-down bike, and the uncharted woods where I would spend hours in the realm of my imagination climbing trees, daydreaming and trying rise up above my common life. I'd make myself dizzy spinning circles on the tire swing and run home at the end of the day upon hearing my mother's call to supper, scratching my legs on the blackberry bushes that tangled amongst the fences underneath the tall, silent trees.

I'm not that little girl anymore. And the man who now lives in my childhood home has cut down the big maple on the hill in whose arms I used to sit cradled, drowsy and dreaming, giving names, not numbers to the stars. The same tree in which my Dad inscribed the names of his four children and the dates of our births.

Bittersweet. Bittersweet.

Finally Packed! Day #4/365ł

This was taken in all of 5 seconds, obviously. I had to run to dinner at my dads house so by the time I finished and ran to the store, it was already late. Plus? I didn't even START packing until 10:30pm. Fun!

Quickly threw a bunch of stuff in my bag, crossing my fingers I didn't forget anything, and I'm done. I'm sure somewhere along the 6.5 hour drive up there, I'll remember what I forgot. I think I remembered the most important stuff at least! Got the hiking shoes!

Won't have internet access up there and no laptop so I'll be taking photos and will have to upload them when I get back on Sunday. I'll try to upload a few cameraphone pics here and there to tell you guys I'm still alive.

We are planning on hiking Mt. Washington on Friday but the weather is getting crappier. Saturday is forecasted to be a lot nicer so we're debating pushing off the hike until Saturday. I'm sure we can find ways to keep ourselves occupied in the meantime.

And on that note... I have to wake up in 5 hours. So I'm going to attempt to get at least a cat nap in.

Candace's Modified and Boosted GSX-R1000

Here is an image from my photoshoot on Saturday. This is a Suzuki GSXR-1000. However, what you see here is not how it comes from the showroom.

My friend Candace who is also a draftsperson like myself, loves motorcycles. I met Candace years ago when I was riding as well. She’s a fun person to be around, and so nice to hear about the passion of motorcycles from a girls point of view. Her motorcycle pictured here is the result of many paychecks, long hours of her own muscle turning wrenches in the shop, and a great deal of planning and coordination. Aside from buying the motorcycle, her modifications and efforts were a 6 month project of which she herself dedicated her love, time, and attention to. Most guys I know drop off the bike at the shop and pay for someone else to do the hard work, not Candace. She is the true mother of labor when it comes to her bike.

I had a great time shooting this bike and enjoyed seeing Candace again after a few years. I will be posting more shots from the shoot later.

Today was one of those days where I woke up so tired that I was a little bit afraid to drive, especially with my equilibrium so off because I am sick and disgustingly congested. I drove anyways, I had to drop off my brother at school and pick my sister up, plus she promised me an everything bagel.

I finally paid my "Failure to yield to traffic signals" and "Failure to provide proof of insurance" tickets today. $118, still owe $83 by January 13th. I am the worst best driver. I have received way to many tickets. Not good. My goal is to not get any before I leave for Chicago (on January 5th!!!!!)

I went to the beach with Andy, he was in town. That was fun, I've known him since I was 16 and he always has a thousand jokes up his sleeve that I'm always laughing. I got color, weird. I like it. Also came to conclusion that I am REALLY bad at throwing/catching/having anything to do with a football.

I called Melanie today, I really missed her. I told her this about seven times. We went to Dales, my favorite restaurant in the whole world. I don't really eat or cook meat but I will get down on there pulled pork sandwiches forever. It was nice to see her and talk, she has a good head on her shoulders whether she realizes it or not. I am really excited at the idea of her coming up to Chicago and moving it, it would be amazing if it worked out.

We went back to my Mom's house and hung out there. I love my Mom, point blank. She always knows how to give me a headache but gol-dang, I love her. She was happy to see Melanie.

Our trip to Goodwill...... so freaking successful. I got a Konica 35 EF, a King Tut tee, a satchel, and a skirt for $3.59. All because my bgurl, Carissa, hooked us up with a discount on my $5 budget.

I baked Halloween cookies and actually got really legit with the frosting and making it colored. (ALL FROM SCRATCH, BY THE WAY <- AWESOME).

I had to fill the role of DD tonight for my friend. I'm glad he asked because I hate it when people drive drunk. It was actually fun, I guess. At one point on his bar crawl, we met up with Mackenzie and Jodie at the "Rockstar Lounge" where 40 year old men played REALLY bad music and a VERY drunk groupie old girl tried to fondle my breasts and mack on all of us. So awkward. So so so awkward.

Successful day, definitely.

On a side note: It was kind of weird that you were trying for "it". Never saw that as a component of our friendship but I guess, whatevs. It was funny.

Although many of our children can do marvelous things via the technologies and knowledge they gain, but many of them seem do not have much guts to challenge further. We can not deny their fear or cowardity for seeing or carrying certain problems & responsibilities. This is just because they understand quite well the head and tail of how to run a certain particular business or tasks only due to their certain isolated findings, they do not have much confidence for moving toward which directions and how they can achieve much better and so on unless they witness a rigid evidence. By the time they see it, won't it be too late?

In fact, for me as one of the parents’ standing, I think since some of their parents know well how to strike outstandingly or steadily, it is better do not under estimate the power they can duplicate if they simply combine their thoughts well with their kids even. Many parents have seen and learnt many things their kids haven't done before. As such, my special confirmation is many parents understand how to counter measure their business problems than the kids. Of course we do not compared this with those are categorised as inexperience or brutal groups.

The other main evidence why is many industries players have learnt and achieved far more better than their kids. As such these people shall be able to maintain their business status better than their kids initially, but once they have empowered together, we can see more exclusive achievement indeed in each individual industries.

But in this world, many family members do not agree this point of view because they do not believe or realize mutually the power available between themselves.

The main problem nowadays is some kids still do not have much patience to listen carefully how far they can build their future or business steadily with anyone. Since everyone comes from different experience and background; as such many people may gain different scope of knowledge and resources. Some can foresee why certain companies can run their business well in the market currently but sadly to say that they are still not daring to upgrade their business too. This is because they can foresee their weaknesses only instead of the essence of possessing greater advanced innovation & creativities too. Everyone will train up themselves to certain level freely in any company if they are smart enough to absorb, learn and strike themselves. As such we shall not under estimate the power available by each person.

Life is just like a pool of encyclopedia journey. How can we simply let these resources be wiped out from our world easily? Isn't it cruel enough if we simply let such resources disappear like that without making any single preservation?

In facts, if the kids challenge well since their golden younger age period; they will be more confident, energetic and powerful right now. They can access help from their parents and relatives as well. For erlderly late planners, when they realize they have enough guts to challenge one day, perhaps the time they can enjoy the fruitful result might not be as long as the earlier planners for sure. The different reason is they might not be able to access their help from their relatives and friends circle easily if they start their business late.

These conditions will be deeply felt by many successful businessmen. When they business goes up to the peak level, they do not have enough energy to run.... Some smart businessmen are alert enough to train up few successors before they become very old, but in their minds, they still hope to be able to train up more successors and hope to have more period of time to involve in their business.

This will be worst if for those late business planners obviously.

Proper guidance and influence is needed by the appropriate councilors, politicians and those relevant parties right now.

In short, a thorough communication between youngsters and the old generation only can solve the future of our kids well for certain families. Only through " Open Mind Open Door " we can solve many future problems steadily.

It's snowing, the apartment is warm...it definitely feels like Christmas is coming! Today is the first day we've actually had snow accumulate on the ground. I guess this afternoon will tell me whether or not I need to get snow tires.

I had my photography gig last night. It was a corporate Christmas party for my friend's company. It taught me a few things:

1. Bulk up my shoulder and neck muscles, so that a hanging camera with flash and zoom lens doesn't make them ache so much :P
2. Wear more-cushiony shoes.
3. Never work retail. Standing around for 6 hours straight is hard! I don't know how you retail workers do it. I think I'd rather cart around 200 pounds of soil in a wheelbarrow back and forth all day...oh wait.

I'm not really impressed with a lot of the shots...I have very little experience making shots of people look good...but as long as they like it, that's all that matters.

Yesterday was Moving Day for my mom, brother and sister. (I took this picture on Tuesday when we rented a U-Haul to move smaller things). The movers came and loaded up all that remained, and now the house is empty.

Today is the last day we have access to it. Then it moves on to another family.

We moved into that house over the course of the winter and spring of 2004...I lived there from April 2004 to July 2010...and while I'm sad to leave it, at least this time around, I've got tons of pictures to help remember it.

I got my first digital camera a few months before moving into this house, so I spent 6 years taking pictures in and around it. I had film cameras as a kid/teenager when we lived in the previous house, but I didn't get a lot of pictures of the house itself (not that I have trouble remembering it; it was very unique).

Anyway, although I'm living on my own now, today marks the end of an era and the start of a new chapter. My mom found a new house, which I like, and so we say goodbye to this old house.

I've repainted where rubbing down the seams took off paint at the centerline, attached the radiator shell (But freed the flap from it...) and detailed the main gear wells. Note:

Main gear legs, doors and wheels/tires!

Coolant pipe in port well- styrene rod bent back and forth until flexible, glued into place. It probably should run right down the center line, next time.

Compressed air tank at front of main wheel well. Part tree scrap turned into a short, fat, "Scuba tank: and then filed down to bas-relief.

Wing rib structure - between the brown main well and the lighter colored pockets for the main gear you can see white shapes which are the lattice work rib structure.

Main gear operating jacks. Crude but servicible immitations of pneumatic cylinders were made by taking a 0.025" drill (matched to the smallest rod stock I have) and drilling a hole into the end of a 0.04-0.05 rod. Its dead easy to glue a thin rod into a hole drilled into a thick one- cut to length and there's your pneumatic or hydraulic.

Note also the filler piece of flat rod styrene in the radiator shell, making up for the material removed by the razor saw...

A host of great old signs are present with a Chrysler Plymouth dealership, a Packard dealership, the Yellow Cab garage, a Firestone store, and Mobil gas station, and a real estate office.
