Coffee almond ice cream torte Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups chocolate wafer cookie crumbs (24 cookies)* 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted 2 pints (4 cups) Haagen-Dazs® Coffee Ice Cream, softened** 1/2 cup sliced almonds, toasted 1/2 oz. semi-sweet chocolate, grated Preparation: 1. Spray bottom of 8-inch springform pan with nonstick cooking spray. In medium bowl, combine cookie crumbs and butter; mix well. Press mixture in bottom and 1 inch up sides of sprayed pan. Freeze for 15 minutes or until firm. 2. Spread softened ice cream evenly into crust. Sprinkle with toasted almonds. Garnish top of torte with grated chocolate. Freeze for 2 to 3 hours or until firm. 3. Just before serving, let torte stand at room temperature for 10 minutes. Run knife around edge of pan; carefully remove sides of pan. Cut into wedges. 10 servings TIPS: * Chocolate wafer crumbs may be purchased, or crush 24 chocolate wafer cookies in food processor or in a plastic bag with a rolling pin. ** To soften ice cream, place container in the refrigerator for 30 minutes OR until very easy to scoop. die cut magnet delivered This is how my ordered die cut magnets were delivered. Angel Biscuits & Homemade Orange Conserve Angel Biscuits Yield: 15 1 tablespoon yeast 2 cups unbleached wheat flour 2 teaspoons sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder pinch of salt 3 tablespoons cold butter 2/3 cup buttermilk Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water. Put flour, sugar, baking powder & salt in a bowl. Use pastry blender or two knives to work in butter until mixture is size of small peas. Add the dissolved yeast & the buttermilk. Blend mixture with hands or in a food processor until it forms a soft dough that does not stick to your hands. (Add more flour if needed.) Roll or pat dough 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut small (about 2 inches diameter) circles with a glass or cookie cutter. Place on oiled baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap & freeze. When frozen, remove from baking sheet & store in freezer-proof container. Can be stored frozen for up to 6 weeks. When ready to bake, remove from freezer & let rise until doubled in size -- at least 4 hours. Then bake at 350 degrees Farenheit for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove & cool. Variation: Cut in wedges or rectangles instead of circles. NOTES: It was very hard to pry this recipe from my Mom, who bakes mostly by feel rather than exact measurements or method. Sometimes the result looks a little more like a tiny bun, other times a biscuit. However, it's always delicious. And the texture is heavenly, very tender & soft, not at all doughy. Yes, it's "white" so lacks the nutrients of whole grain breads but we don't eat it every morning. Usually just a few times a year as part of a Holiday brunch -- in this case Easter. 42/365 "sunshine slush" My favorite alcoholic beverage, hands down, is "Sunshine Slush". This stuff is seriously yummy for your tummy. My clone likes it, too. Fred’s Sunshine Slush: 3 cups water 1 cup sugar 2 ripe bananas 2 – 12oz cans unsweetened pineapple juice 1 – 6oz can frozen orange juice concentrate 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 1/2 cups whiskey 7 up (for mixing) Boil water and sugar until dissolved, then boil additional 3 minutes. Let cool. Meanwhile, in blender, blend fruit juices and bananas until smooth. In a freezer proof plastic container, combine juice mixture, sugar water and whiskey. Cover and freeze. To drink, fill glass 1/3 to 1/2 way with slush and fill glass the rest of the way with 7-Up. Stir. Smile. For "Booze, Glorious Booze" and Roulette. Poor little cake without a party Damn chest cold! The little man and I have both been sick since Thursday, but I thought for sure we'd kick it by the day of his party. No such luck. I had to call the guests this morning with news that it was off. He was feeling a lot better today, but I was still a wreck. All I can say is that I'm glad he's only two and won't remember that his mommy ruined his birthday party. :) Still, we couldn't miss out on singing "Happy Birthday" to the little guy, even though I sounded like a frog. He was excited about the candle, and my husband very nicely videotaped the proceedings (although he got me in a few frames, PJs, bad hair, and all!). This crazy cake serves like 30 people. You should see all of the slices crammed in our freezer. Anyone want to come over for cake and ice cream? 35/365... Time to Get Heart Smart... the good news is... the scary palpitations are benign.... the bad news?? im a fat ass!!! after a hand full of tests and waiting worrisomely.... i learned that the 'ol ticker is just fine... ive just been blessed with butterflies in my chest cavity... how cute!! now my triglycerides... 3 Times what they should be!!! oops!!! dr told me to eat like a Bear.. which only Excited me!! bears stuff their Faces!!!!! Awsome!!! then he brought me back down to earth by explaining the bears Diet... fish and berries and all theat other healthy crap.... Ooooh!!! THATS what he ment!!! so yea... i guess its time to grow up and start taking better care of myself!! guess i should have a funeral for that gallon of ice cream in my freezer ;( ;( R.I.P MooseTracks... Fridge Gallery Day 47 - 2/26/08 I know refrigerators were a prompt LAST week (in Ravelry's 365), but I missed those and I'd planned on posting a photo of this anyway, just cuz I love it so much! I got these acrylic pockets at Target about a month ago. They were on sale for $2.00 a piece, so I snatched up two for me and one for each of the girls. The pockets were all in one long, vertical strip though, so I cut them apart and stuck magnetic tape to the back. Now my gallery can rotate as often as I (actually) develop my photos! Yay! It makes me happy every time I look at these - some of my favorites. Clothes pin container Campbell soup can, hot glue gun, magnetic strips, paint = cool container for my clothes pins. I use clothes pins to keep my bags closed, like chips or cereal or brown sugar. Miriam & Rick's Anniversary Cheesecake by Iris H. Zuares 1-3/4 cups Graham Cracker Crumbs 1/3 cup or butter, melted 1-1/4 cups sugar, divided 3 pkg. (8 oz. each) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened 1 cup Sour Cream 2 tsp. vanilla 3 eggs Make It! You can add the zest of a lemon if you like that. PREHEAT oven to 350°F if using a silver 8- or 9-inch springform pan to 325°F if ( using a dark nonstick 8- or 9-inch springform pan). Mix graham cracker crumbs, margarine and 1/4 cup of the sugar. Press firmly onto bottom and 2-1/2 inches up side of pan; set aside. BEAT cream cheese and the remaining 1 cup sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add sour cream and vanilla; mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating on low speed after each addition just until blended. Pour into crust. BAKE 1 hour to 1 hour 10 min. or until center is almost set. Turn oven off. Open oven door slightly. Let cheesecake set in oven 1 hour. Remove cheesecake from oven; cool completely. Refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight. Loosen cheesecake from rim of pan; remove rim. I use edible gel paste to paint my cakes. The cheescake can be left plain, painted or add fruit fillings such as cherries or strawberries...whatever you like. Top cheesecake with pie filling just before serving. Store leftover cheesecake I refrigerate over 24 hours before realeasing my cake and I bake it in a waterbath. I put aluminum foil on the bottom and up the sides and place it in a larger pan while in the oven. I then fill it at least 1/2 way up the sides. This prevenmts cracking across the top. HAND PAINTED PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE WITH AUTUMN LEAVES AND FLOWERS by Iris H. Zuares Homemade Pumpkin cheesecake painted/decorated with edible gel paste. Layers of paint are created to add dimension and realistic looks to the flowers and leaves. This is done aftwer chilling the cheesecake at least 24 hours. Castle Steps "Foxglove" room We stayed at the Castle Steps hotel in Mala Strana in the Foxglove room. I can't say enough good things about this place: the room was clean, comfortable, and furnished with charming antiques. The staff was mostly young American and British, and they were very friendly and helpful. This place is full of small touches: - there was a semi-private balcony with a view of the roof tops - there was a washer/dryer FREE to use - they only use Ecover cleaning products (all natural, no nasty perfumes) - they use Dyson vacuums - they will arrange transportation to/from the train and airport (very helpful) - there's a kitchen on the floor for us to use, which also included a refrigerator - ... and more Seriously, I loved this place. The rates were fantastic too. Basicaly, I consider this to be like a hostel for grown-ups. It's largely self-service (carry your own bags, no elevator, etc), and the accommodations are simple yet nice. The only downside was the breakfast - it wasn't worth the walk up the steep hill. fridge 365-42 This is my fridge on Saturday afternoon, after all the week's shopping has been done. Today it was looking especially organized, so I decided to take a picture. I love seeing it all full of goodness, although it doesn't stay like this for long. By Friday all this stuff will be gone, save for all the condiments and maybe an egg or two. And then it's off to Costco and Superstore for more... Fridge This is my fridge. It does have food inside it but the outside is ever so much more interesting. There are bills that need paying, stacks of magnets, a few calendars, my gym schedule and my very own whiteboard. Angel of Mercy I played hooky today and spent the day with the inventor of the egg carton and refrigerator shipping (the same great lady!), the creator of Thanksgiving and Mary Had a Little Lamb (the same lady!), a signer of The Declaration of Independence, the voice of the Phillies, an Arctic explorer, Titanic victims and many many more! I spent the day at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia. A cemetery on my visit wish list! One more off the list! I got to half of it. HALF! I missed some major monuments, but there was just no time! If you enjoy Victorian art, you must visit this cemetery…it’s more art garden than graveyard. So pick a nice day…bring along a picnic basket and make the day of it! Laurel Hill Cemetery is a great cemetery. It would be a great thing if all cemeteries could be like Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. They get the community involved by having fun events (not just tours) in the cemetery itself. Folktales, music, balls, banquets…all in the cemetery. It’s exactly what the founders wanted. A city park that is open for all. There just happens to be people buried there, that’s all! The Fridge Ooh, what a big beastie fridge and no mistake. And this is only the half of it as it's a big come on baby American style fridge. The other half is just as big, oh yes, but it's a freezer. We need to shop again to restore it to it's crammed for a family glory and putting an opened tin in there is NOT my idea. I detest this practice nearly as much as I detest Man Utd, but life is too short to say so. The Kitchen A professional Chef's kitchen with two smeg ovens, large hob, US style fridge/freezer, waste disposer and washing up machine. A seperate utility room houses another fridge freezer, washing machine & dryer - and a microwave oven.
