London to Brighton Veteran Car Run 2010 159 - 1902 Oldsmobile 'curved dash' Known as the 'Curved Dash' for obvious reasons, Ransom Eli Olds's gasoline-powered runabout was first offered for sale in 1901, following a fire at the factory that had destroyed every other prototype. Over 11,000 of the three Curved Dash models ('R', '6C' and 'B') were constructed before production ceased in 1907, making it the first volume-produced American automobile. The Model 'R' runabout was powered by a single-cylinder, 1.6-litre engine of 114x152mm bore/stroke, mounted horizontally at the rear and producing 5 horsepower at 600rpm. Later '6C' and 'B' models benefited from a more-powerful (7hp) 1.9-litre engine and all featured two-speed epicyclic transmission and chain final drive. Several improvements to the design were made during the course of production, but the engine's basic layout remained unchanged. Two mechanically operated overhead valves were set side-by-side at 90 degrees to the cylinder axis, and the rocker arms had roller ends. An ignition contact-breaker was mounted on the end of the camshaft, and sparks provided by a trembler coil. By 1902, the mixer-type carburettor had been replaced by a float-less design, while a manually adjustable valve in the exhaust system vented exhaust gases via the silencer box or more or less straight to the atmosphere, the two settings presumably being intended for town and country use respectively. Cooling water was contained in a reservoir above the engine and circulated by a crankshaft-driven pump, mounted on the side of the chassis. The radiator's copper piping wound its way back and forth beneath the floor. Despite appearances to the contrary, the suspension's leaf-springs which linked the front and rear axles were not true half-elliptics like those fitted to the later model 'B' cars. On the 'R' and '6C' models, only the bottom leaf ran from front to rear, so it would be more accurate to describe these as four quarter-elliptics. Steering was by means of a tiller, a common enough method in the early 1900s, while there was a choice of brakes: one acting on the transmission, the other on the differential. The wheels were un-braked. Lexus GS400 HDR or DRI or tone-mapped or whatever. I tried to prevent serious haloing, I can't stand halos around the edges. And I'm not sure how I feel about the bridge reflecting on the hood. In the viewfinder it looked cool, but I don't know, maybe a fisheye would have been better from this angle. This is from 5 shots with SB-800 in various places to fill and hi-lite areas of the grill. Layered and masked in CS4 then tone-mapped (or whatever) and polished by hand. The tone mapping was from the layered shot and 3 other exposures (-2.3,-0.6, layered, +1.0) I also cloned out a fake palm tree from the left sky. It was one of those antenna-trees, terribly ugly, IMO. I took these shots to help my-father-in-law sell and remember his favorite car. Ronnie Dunn 2011 debut solo album by the Country singer/songwriter best known as half of multi-million selling duo Brooks & Dunn. For Dunn and for all the fans he earned along the way, this deeply felt new effort has been a long time coming. In many ways, Ronnie Dunn is literally the album of a lifetime for the man whose name now gives this remarkable collection of songs its title. The album reflects perhaps the most intense soul searching Ronnie Dunn has ever done as a recording artist -- and as a man too. A famed perfectionist by nature, Dunn admits that he threw himself into the creative process for the album in a very big way as he produced his own solo debut. Today was the first day of school.. but fuck that! I went to my very first concert with Jovany and some other people to see Rancid, My Chemical Romance, and lastly, Blink 182! Blink was AMAZING, and almost made me piss myself when they would change certain lyrics into something extremely inappropriate and funny, and take breaks in between the songs just to talk about the stupidest, randomest shit :3 Crossing "concert" off of my list with a huge ass smile! I loved everything. Noe's funny ass comments, paying for gas and not pumping, "Big Daddy's", buying Blink's tour t's for $20 (d34lz), smuggling in my Nikon and Alicia's Canon, breaking up a fight over whether or not someone stepped on someone else's lotion, seeing my mother getting hit on by both a 20 year old and a 16 year old, singing all of the words to Blink's older songs, seeing Travis Barker drum over the mosh pit on a crane, and way more. Oil Well Pump Operator In Woncolo Indonesia, oil is pumped by a man seated on a former truck transmission. The body of the truck is discarded and the engine and transmission are set on the ground. A cable is wound around one of the wheels, which is then attached to the down hole pump. The operator puts the engine in neutral to drop the pump into the hole, and then guns it in reverse to wind up the wheel and pump out the crude oil/water emulsion. The emulsion is filtered into crude oil by allowing it to flow down the hill, and is eventually heated to distill it into diesel fuel. Diesel pump removed On the right you can see the birthday of the engine: 25 G 79 = July 25, 1979. I removed the diesel pump of my Mercedes to renew the gasket between pump and engine. It was leaking oil. When I removed the diesel pump, it was clear why: the gasket had all but disappeared. Frozen Lighthouse Season '09 OK folks ... here we go! I hereby declare Frozen Lighthouse Season '09 OPEN! Taken today in Grand Haven, MI ... about 4:15 pm. A heavy cloud bank swallowed the sun so the actual sunset (@5:09) was less than spectacular ... but I think I got some pretty snazzy pictures between 4 and 4:30. There is WONDERFUL ice out there right now (thanks to the strong (50-60mph) winds of the past week). If you live in West Michigan and you like frozen lighthouses ... head on out! Dates for your diary.... 10.06.10 One simple but essential tool for managing diabetes is.....a diary!!! Admittedly, as some of you will already know, I (stupidly) chose to ignore my diabetes for many years which included not going to hopital appointments but now I'm making up for it and I've got appointments coming out of my ears.... April 28th 2010 - First appointment at my new hospital (Stafford General) with my new dietician - When discussing the pump with my DSN (Diabetes Specialist Nurse) at my GP's I was told a couple of things about my usual hospital (New Cross, Wolverhampton) and the way that several patients she had referred for pumps had been treated so she suggested that I try Stafford Hospital instead as people seem to have more success there......that was all the persuading I needed to ask her to refer me to Dr. Coates at Stafford!!! The first lesson in carbohydrate counting with Mina, the dietician, went really well. I must admit I came away slightly daunted by this brand new way of doing things and more than a little bit nervous about getting it wrong. In order to get an insulin pump you need to be competent at carb counting so that you can give yourself the correct doses via the pump. I'm now keeping two diaries, one for appointments and as of 28th April, a food diary too!!! May 13th 2010 - First meeting with Dr. Coates at Stafford Hospital. I certainly wasn't expecting a "yes" or "no" answer from him today about whether I could have a pump or not but that is exactly what we got....a big fat "YES".....fantastic!!!!!!! We discussed various things about insulin pumps and the motivation and commitment needed as there is a lot of hard work involved at the start. I also met Gill who will be my 'pump nurse'. I really couldn't get over the fact that I got an answer so quickly, especially after some of the stories I have heard/read about the real fight that people have had on their hands to get funding for one. I realise just how lucky I am to be accepted for a pump and am extremely grateful to Dr. Coates and his team for giving me the opportunity to try a pump and get on top of my diabetes. June 10th 2010 - The scariest appointment by far....the eye infirmary. As you probably already know, I have diabetic retinopathy and have had a lot of laser surgery for it in the past. At my last check up in January the consultant said everything was fine and that I didn't need any more laser treatment....today however, was a different story. I had kind of guessed that something was going on with my eyes again and that I would need more laser but of course, secretly hoped that they would say everything was fine. The consultant said the 'streak / shape' I had in my vision on Sunday night was another bleed in the back of my eye and that new blood vessels have started to form in both eyes and starting to leak and therefore I need to have more laser treatment in both eyes. I thought if I needed any it would be in the right eye but hadn't expected to have to have some in both. I will have the right eye done first in about 6 weeks time. Going to try my best not to worry about it too much......for now anyway!!! June 17th 2010 - This one is an insulin pump forum meeting I have been invited to by the hospital. I think it will be really interesting as I will be meeting people who are already on pumps....can't wait until I'm one of them!!!! :o) June 19th 2010 - Lee and Claudia's Challenge.....although we can't be there in person I will be supporting them 'in spirit' and wearing blue in support of what they are doing!!! Wish we could be there to meet Lee, Angela, Claudia, Sarah, Roxana and all of the other wonderful, inspirational friends I have made recently in the DOC (Diabetic Online Community). Wishing you all the luck in the world guys!!! June 22nd 2010 - Opticians. This is just a general sight test so nothing to worry about, unless I need new glasses, in which case finding the money will be a worry!!! :o) June 23rd 2010 - Second appointment with dietician, Mrs. Crisp (that still makes me chuckle - great name for someone working with food). This one is going to be a group session which will be good. Would also like another one on one appointment with her though as I haven't been told about correction doses yet and still have quite a few questions and I don't want to take up the entire group session with my questions!! June 24th 2010 - First appointment with Gill, my insulin pump nurse. I'm really quite looking forward to this one as it will be my first opportunity to really find out exactly how a pump works and probably actually get to handle one. She did tell me that initially she will be telling me all of the negative points about insulin pumps to see if I think I can cope with them and if I still think a pump is for me. I have done quite a bit of research and think I am definetly ready for the negatives because as far as I can see they are far outweighed by the positives!!! I a Me right after my cataract surgery 6-6-2008 Don't I look pityful? It actually did not hurt, but it was quite creepy. I now have to schedule my other eye so I will be looking forward to being able to see at night. After that I have to schedule my frozen shoulder surgery, then my herniated disc surgery.... blah, blah, blah.... Day 86.365 - 57 Varieties of Torture I am extremely blessed to have a life in New York that I can leave and come back to with relative ease. Not many Americans can take a two month vacation and come back to jobs that welcome them back. I started working at Florent the day after Halloween in 2000. This is my seventh year there and I have achieved the status of one of those few people that can probably always have a job if I need one. I have left twice for long periods of time (9 months and one year) and slid back into place when I returned to the city. There will always be someone there that needs the night off. The last time I left New York for a long stretch, and Florent by extension, The Ex and I went on one year of endless summer. We left New York at the end of the summer, moved to Key West and worked through the fall and winter. We took the money we saved during the high season and lived in Thailand for three months. When we returned to New York it was the beginning of a new summer here. When I left Florent, I had been working primarily as a daytime waiter. I worked brunches and lunches and became familiar with the lovely, non-drunk West Village regulars that eat at the restaurant every day of the week and order the same thing. Some of them have become very good friends of mine. They give me gifts on my birthday, invite me to their gallery openings, ask me about my life and remember things that are important to me. They are the people who can walk into the restaurant, sit down and get what they want without having to order it from anyone. They are the ones we usher in when there is a line out the door. The ones whose wine glasses stay full. It is a wonderful world in many ways, but it is not idyllic. It can be painful and frustrating and exhausting. Serving people, even people I truly enjoy, can drain you of all your mental and emotional resources, never mind the physical demands. You are constantly anticipating other people's needs, adjusting yourself to other's neuroses. And when you are not doing such exhaustively social work, you have to do repetitive drone work that is necessary for the consistent running of the machine. A machine that never stops pumping out frites and boudin noir and creme caramel. I remember, the last time I left Florent, I was marrying ketchup bottles and grinning gleefully. One of my regulars asked me what I was so damn happy about. "This is the last time I will be pouring ketchup out of a 10-can Heinz for a very long time. . ." I eed. ". . .maybe forever. . ." I whispered longingly. He laughed. Some dreams are small. One week later, I was wearing khaki shorts, flip-flops and a tank top with the image of a dolphin and the words "Ernest's Cafe" emblazoned on my chest. I had returned to Key West and had a job within two hours of being back on the island. Four years previously, I spent a season at the southernmost point in the U.S. to make enough money to move back to New York. One of the many jobs I held down was to make frozen drinks for passersby on the porch of the cafe next to the Hemingway house. The owners of Ernest's were more than happy to have me back for another stint. My first day back, they asked me to help out on the floor so they could give their regular waitress a much needed day off. I of course obliged. My first task? Refilling the ketchup bottles. The universe has a fucked up sense of humor. 100 9079 All the wiring for the water pump unplugs. The hoses unscrew so it's quite simpler to remove. Parramatta Park Govenors Bath The ceiling of the Governors Bath House. The Governor’s Bath House in Parramatta Park In 1822 Colonial Architect S L Harris designed the Bath House for Governor Brisbane and built it the following year. Water was pumped to the Bath House through lead pipes from the nearby Parramatta River, while used water was run off through drains of tunneled brickwork and into a nearby duck pond. In 1886, Park Trustees converted the Bath House into a pavilion, which is the current form of the Bath House. The Bath House is representative of two periods of use of the landscape of Parramatta Park, one as a Governor's Domain up to 1855 and then as a public park. On 25 April 1976 the Bath House was classified by the National Trust of Australia (NSW) and included in the Register of the National Estate in 1981 by the Australian Heritage Commission. Day 25 The waters peaked early this morning so I raced up to the office to met with the contractors to keep our office online... The water was approx shin high when i reached the office and slowly receded over the couple of hours... when i was leaving it was starting to rise again.. tonight it will come back but after this, the water should recede and then we can all assess the damage... I know its not a great shot to these last few days have been crazy.. WATER PUMPS PRICE LIST. ITALIAN HYDRAULIC PUMPS. Water Pumps Price List
Price box done I finished the price box for my pump. These displayed the price per gallon on a card inside a metal frame with glass sides. At the bottom are the words “Plus 5 cents tax”. On the right is a listing of the price (tax included) for one thru 15 gallons to help the math challenged. I’m not sure how they handled fractions of gallons. Each time the price changed, a new card would be required, though I’m sure they wouldn’t have changed them 3-4 times a day like now. I 3D printed the basic frame and then added facia strips from .003 Mylar drafting film so the edges around the glass would be thin. A styrene cap and Grandt Line NBW finished the box. The price card was copied from the internet and inkjet printed to scale. I faded and water stained it with Gwosh and Silverwood stain, using prototype photos as reference. I slipped it in behind a piece of .006 thick cover slide glass and installed a .005 styrene back plate to hold it in. I didn’t intend to break the glass, but as I installed the back plate I heard the familiar tink of tiny glass breaking. Oh well. The box was painted and chipped the same as the rest of the pump. I slid it over one of the tie rods and glued it a tad askew. Final rusting continues on the rest of the pump. MM0FMF summit Auchnafree Hill GM/SS-039 Looking rather severe!
