In my Eye.
I collect cameras by visiting fleamarkets. In Bruges, Belgium, I found this item in a pile of junk. First I tought it was a camera, so I do my usual inspection : the shuttertest. Dooooing, the loaded spring shooted out of the box just in my eye,...I mean on my sunglass,... pfff..., I didn't know that cameracollecting so dangerous was...

- characteristic of or existing by virtue of geographic origin; "the native North American sugar maple"; "many native artists studied abroad"
Native Boronia
Every year i am amazed at the colour and abundance of floral display some of our bush lot puts on. When I was growing up as a child my father would often take detours into the bush when it was in flower and tell me about the native flowers. Now I have care of a precious bit of this and have decided to leave this part of our land to the native wildflowers. This year the Beronia are much more in abundance after the drought. Their purple masses really contast against the yellow and red of the bacon and egg flowers. See futher on for pics of these
Native Filipino Student
Over the weekend I went to the northern areas of Luzon and met some great Native Filipinos. They lived by simple means, were very generous, and of such strong faith that even the little that they had--they believed were blessings from God. They rejoiced over things like electricity (maybe of the ten homes, 2 had electricity, 2 had doors). Some of the concrete homes were as big as a single bedroom but housed 2 or 3 families. Its was unreal.

DRAGON CAGE SUNGLASSES. CAGE SUNGLASSES

Dragon Cage Sunglasses
- Glasses tinted to protect the eyes from sunlight or glare
- Sunglasses or sun glasses are a form of protective eyewear designed primarily to prevent bright Sun light and high-energy visible light from damaging or discomforting the eyes.
- spectacles that are darkened or polarized to protect the eyes from the glare of the sun; "he was wearing a pair of mirrored shades"
- (sunglass) a convex lens that focuses the rays of the sun; used to start a fire
- (in the 16th and 17th centuries) A short musket carried on the belt of a soldier, esp. a mounted infantryman
- A fierce and intimidating person, esp. a woman
- a fiercely vigilant and unpleasant woman
- A mythical monster like a giant reptile. In European tradition the dragon is typically fire-breathing and tends to symbolize chaos or evil, whereas in the Far East it is usually a beneficent symbol of fertility, associated with water and the heavens
- a creature of Teutonic mythology; usually represented as breathing fire and having a reptilian body and sometimes wings
- Draco: a faint constellation twisting around the north celestial pole and lying between Ursa Major and Cepheus
- Put in prison
- an enclosure made or wire or metal bars in which birds or animals can be kept
- something that restricts freedom as a cage restricts movement
- Confine in or as in a cage
- confine in a cage; "The animal was caged"
Guinea Pigs' Cage
Ribbed PVC tunnels are a great way to have pigs move comfortably to the different cage components. All the pigs are very comfortable moving through them. However, after a few days we began to notice they were getting very filthy and stinky inside (pee/poo build up).
So, we bought some second-hand flannel pajamas and cut the arms and legs off. Then we put the material through the tunnel, fastened it on either end with an elastic band, and voila - a great lining for the tunnels. Now we can pull the lining out and wash it easily.
Another feature of this cage that I love is that the mess associated with hay is kept to just one section of the cage (the food wing). The food wing is also where the pigs do most of their peeing and pooping. As a consequence, the large section for play and the sleep loft remain relatively clean and don't need to be changed very frequently.
Rat Cage (Jan 2010)
Another update/mod to the cage: shelves have been moved around slightly and i've split the cage in half. Lilly & Sue reside on the bottom, Maud on top.
I tried to hold off in having to seperate Maud, but felt it was best to section off the cage this way, as she was very unhappy in the spare cage. I think she's happy with this arrangement. I also needed to keep her on her own to monitor her eating (& to stop Lilly getting all the spare food - she's putting on too much weight!).
Now that I'm home to monitor, I've moved Sue to keep Maud company. They're both snuggling in Mauds box. :)

bats
while taking the garbage out after a brief rainstorm, I noticed the bats were especially active and tried to get a photo... here are four results of my attempts...
it's too bad I couldn't get a better photo. I love how their wings are totally translucent... would have liked a clear image of that, but I think these are interesting nonetheless.
A note about the scale: in two of the pix, the bats look huge, but they're actually very small; the largest-seeming ones (top right, bottom left) are just a few feet above my head. Only the top left image shows a bat that is actually near the lamp.
Bats
At twilight every night, thousands of bats would emerge from the mountain in the background and fly overhead. This is the best piccie I could muster...

Sunglass Man -- HBW
Prologue – Sunglass Man
If I were to ask you to identify the difference between my street and any other street anywhere, anywhere in this country, anywhere in this world, the third world, or any world; if I were to ask you to take a close look, to observe the rampant commonalities, the samenesses, even between a street in the middle of chicago, or an alley in paris, or a dusty path in some undeveloped desert town, and my street, if I were to make you look and think, would your eyes go to the difference, would you sense what creates the exquisite distinct quality that separates my street from that anywhere, anywhere, anytime, at all?
It’s a question that plagues me as I stand in my yard; silent, still, cloaked. I have flowers, and trees; grass grows beneath my feet, dirt … dirt, underneath it all dirt; no difference there. It’s a question that distracts me, the wind, like the wind anywhere, blowing the bottom of my coat, hitting it against my calves. There are neighbors, others, standing in their yards, wind blowing against them as well, couples and children and an old man, all standing on dirt; yes there are others, although I could not give you their names and they, if you asked them, could not help with this question.
I understand there is no self-evident answer, I know that when the rain comes, when the snow falls, when the leaves fall to the ground on my street, the same rain, snow, and leaves, are … this is not the difference; you’d know that, the minute you came into my yard and stood with me, you’d know that nothing in the external, not the structures, nor the personalities, not the weather, nothing external … you’d know that. You’d pick up on it instantaneously.
Still, even so. Even standing next to me in my yard, in my street, understanding that there is no difference, that the sameness of all streets and yards are extant here, knowing all that; could you point your finger and tell me this, this is what is unique.
I am the sunglass man. I am the difference. And. I am toxic.
No matter. As anyone knows, or, should anyone care to spend a minute thinking about it, although in my experience, you rarely do, you with your samenesses, with your, with your pasts, as anyone knows, toxicity is contagious. It spreads. I spread. You might not be able to point your finger. Even standing right next to me, close enough to take my hand, not that you would, close enough to feel my breath as I whisper the answer in your ear, even that close, the answer would elude you. But driving home, or walking in the woods later, with a loved one, or standing in your kitchen, wiping the counters after an accidental spill, perhaps after you dropped your favorite coffee cup onto your favorite plate which then crashed into your favorite vase, which for reasons relating only to fate, happened to be in the sink at that precise moment, at this moment, my aspect would become manifest.
I am the sunglass man. I am the difference. And. I am toxic. I turn, leave my yard, leave the wind and the neighbors and the dirt, I carry myself to where you will not go. I’d like to say that at that precise moment, the birds started chirping again, that children laughed, that the couple across the way in the middle of an awkward silence, that they suddenly found their voice; but all of this was happening anyway. No one notices that I am toxic. Well, not until it is really too late.

This isn’t a shot of al tall ship at Amsterdam. I took this shot in Melbourne Australia in 2004 with a point and shoot canon camera

About SAIL Amsterdam
SAIL Amsterdam is a large maritime manifestation held every five years in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Tall ships from all over the world visit the city to moor in its Eastern harbour, and people can then visit the ships for four days (free of charge).
The event was organized for the first time in 1975 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Amsterdam, under the name 'Sail Amsterdam 700'. At that time, interest in tall ships, which had sunk to a low since the 1930s when the last commercial tall ships had been built, was starting to rise. The success of Sail Amsterdam 700 led to the establishment of the Stichting Sail Amsterdam (SSA, Foundation Sail Amsterdam).
Sail is one of the largest maritime manifestations in the world, and the largest event of any kind in the Netherlands. Tens of tall ships and hundreds of other historical ships are involved. Numerous other ships and boats are present besides the participating ships, amounting to 8000 boats in the 2000 edition.
Lesser events take place during the festival, involving small sailboats, sailor choirs or re-enactments of naval battles. The Sail In or Parade of Sail on the first day attracts many other small ships, including creations like a sailing organ (with trumpet accompaniment) or a train converted to a ship. On the next to last day there is a naval pageant and on the last day the 'Sail Out'.
Sailing
I am sailing, I am sailing,
home again 'cross the sea.
I am sailing, stormy waters,
to be near you, to be free.
I am flying, I am flying,
like a bird 'cross the sky.
I am flying, passing high clouds,
to be with you, to be free.
Can you hear me, can you hear me
thro' the dark night, far away,
I am dying, forever trying,
to be with you, who can say.
Can you hear me, can you hear me,
thro' the dark night far away.
I am dying, forever trying,
to be with you, who can say.
We are sailing, we are sailing,
home again 'cross the sea.
We are sailing stormy waters,
to be near you, to be free.
Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free.
Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free,
Oh Lord.

MY FAVORITE BAR IN YOKOHAMA WITH BEN HUR SHADES
The Ben Hur shades were all the rage in Japan in the early 60s. I had to spend what was the equivalent of $30 U.S. dollars to get my shades. For that amount, I could have spent three nights at Frank Lloyd Wright's famous hotel, THE IMPERIAL PALACE. ( I did spend a few nights there in 1961).
The Peanuts Club or Music Saloon was another story. It will always remain a fond memory. More about the Peanuts Club in other posts. Tags: Peanuts-Club Yokohama Japanese-Bars, etc.
I still have my shades and plan to take them with me when I return to Yokohama. I want to sit in a bar with these goofy glasses and buy all of the young women drinks. And I might do a few portraits too. Dream on, fool............
What's in your bag?
Finally decided to do one of these.
What's missing:
- The Nikon D80 used to take this picture. It usually accompanies this bag, but in it's own Crumpler 4 Million Dollar Home.
- Client files. Usually I carry them around in this bag as well. (They're not too thick.)
What's needed: I need a good multitool. Torn between a Leatherman, a SOG, or another Victorinox. Any suggestions?
