Preston Comes Home:) Click on Image for Updates To those who did not know…and to those who care... (12-27-06) Preston, our 3 year old little white dog we adopted in February of '06, has had quite a December. A few days after Thanksgiving, Preston started stumbling and acting "drunk" as he walked around the house. We decided to watch him for a few days and see how he progressed. Those few days went by with not much improvement so we took him to our vet. The first diagnosis was a ruptured disc in his lower back. Through x-rays our vet noticed a slight narrowing of the spine which is normal with a ruptured disc. This is usually treated with steroids (prednisone), rest, and possibly surgery. We took him home that day and saw great improvement by the end of the night. Preston responded great to the steroid treatment for the first week. As we stared the recommended reduction of dosage he began showing signs of "drunkenness" again however this time his front left leg was getting worse. He got to the point where he could not walk a few steps with out doing a face plant. We took him back to our vet for a checkup. He took more x-rays and sested something may be wrong with his wrist and should probably see an orthopedic specialist. We were referred to the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center, a first class facility that only sees patients referred by the animal's normal vet. The center is located at the Tollway and Trinity Mills, about 10 minutes from our house, in a nice 3 story building built specifically for the sugary center. In other words it's not your everyday strip center vet hospital. We had taken off the Thursday and Friday before Christmas so we woke up early on the 21st and had Preston at the center at 8:00am. We met with a doctor who immediately ruled out a problem with his wrist and sested a ruptured disk in his neck area. Preston showed all the signs of this injury and was admitted for a few tests to confirm. Surgery to repair the ruptured disk was supposed to be done before the end of the day. Amanda and I went home to begin our remodel of the home office to try to get our minds off the stress of having the little guy in surgery. At this time we also realized what we really needed for Christmas and let everyone know, if you still have not finished shopping for us you can donate to the "get well soon" fund for Preston instead of the obligatory gift card barrage. Surgery on a dog is not cheap, and this is what we really needed for Christmas! We received a call around 3 that afternoon to let us know the results of the tests. The doctor did not see a ruptured disk or an injury to his leg or wrist in the x-rays or the CT scan. The doctors preformed a spinal tap to analyze spinal fluids to rule out a neurological problem. The samples needed to be analyzed by another set of vets so we would get the results the next morning. On Friday the 22nd around 11am we received a call from the center to let us know the results. The doctor diagnosed Preston with an inflammatory form of meningitis (GME). This was confirmed from the spinal tap fluid analysis and has to do with cell counts not being normal. It is not a viral or bacterial form so it is not contagious like some human forms. The origin of the dieses is a mystery and not much is known about how an animal contracts it. The effects are inflammation around the spinal cord near the neck and brain. This causes pain in the neck and decreased mobility. This explained the lameness in the front leg and the pain he would experience when you touched his neck, or stood above him which made him look up. Treatment includes a heavy does of steroids (prednisone) to be tapered down as he shows improvement, as well as a series of injections to boost the immune system and try to stop the body from fighting itself. He was also prescribed decreased activity and rest; those of you who know Preston know this obviously will not be a problem. The overall prognosis at this time is good. It was the best decision to leave him there over the holiday because we were doing our annual "Around the Metroplex 10 times in 48 hours" whirlwind tour. This allowed him to have 24 hr. care and rest without us coming and going all weekend long. He came home yesterday (Tuesday 26th) after a 5 day stay at the hospital. We have him on a heavy dose of steroids for one month and then will start to taper off the dosage and watch for signs of a relapse. He will be due for another spinal tap in a few months to analyze the cell counts and decide if he needs to stay on medication. He has responded well to the prednisone and injections. He came home to an overly excited Oscar and has most of his normal self back. He can now walk and get up and down from the couch on his own without too much trouble. His front legs seam to be working just fine. This is an extreme improvement from the Dec. 21st when he could not stand without falling on his face. Battery Cavity Right, removing the battery. This is… fun. As mentioned before the cable from the battery to the connector runs underneath the bottom right corner of the circuit board. So, you need to remove two screws to lift the bottom edge of the circuit board as you pull the wire out. The screws are very small and not of a standard flat or Philips head but a small knife blade was good enough to unscrew them. So, with bottom edge of the circuit board unscrewed and the battery prised out enough to break the glue seal you can unplug the cable (noting which order the colours are in, as this will be the same on your new battery). Then lift the circuit board from the middle (the foam hard disc clip is a reasonable handle for this) and free the cable. The battery should now just lift out. HERNIA REPAIR COMPLICATION : ACCIDENT REPAIR : HOW TO REPAIR BRAKE CALIPERS. Hernia Repair Complication
Flying Neptune ("Tunie") From Grey Hounds of Eastern Michigan: "It is with a heavy heart GEM bids this fine champion farewell, he has passed beyond our place here on earth and waits with the angels at the bridge. Neptune we tried . . . it was just not ment to be. Flying neptune left us on May 2nd [2001] after complications from surgery. When he first arrived he was monitored carefully, and after 2 weeks he went in for pre-surgical bloodwork. All looked well and the neuter surgery was performed. Neptune was a crypt orchid which means he had one testicle that had not descended from his abdomen, and that testicle was found to be surrounded with a massive tumor. The vet removed it, and repaired a hernia as well as removing the other testicle which appeared to be normal. The tumor was sent in for a biopsy and it was determined to be a slow growing form of cancer. Neptune's prognosis was looking better, the vets thought he could live another 5 - 7 years. 2 weeks later he ruptured, the inside of his body had absorbed the sutures that were placed there and had begun to abcess. Neptune was taken to the emergency vet clinic where they repaired his abdomen, and double sutured it to make sure he had enough time to heal before the sutures absorbed. This lasted 4 days, and his abdomen opened up again at the same site, the sutures were again absorbed and there was nothing the vets could do to save his life. We don't know why his body absorbed the suture material, that point is still under discussion. Neptune retired from a very prestigious racing career where he earned many titles including All American. Neptune went on to become a very proficient stud dog producing over 500 offspring, many of which have went on to race very well in their own right. He retired at the age of 7 1/2 to live out his life as a pet and was lost due to an unknown complication from surgery. We mourn his loss, but we know that even though he never found a home to call his very own, he found love and that is enough. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his foster family who are suffering with the loss of this amazing boy who graced their home for just 5 days shy of a month before departing for the bridge. Neptune will be remembered by not only them but all of the GEM volunteers who were blessed with the opportunity to meet a true champion racer, and champion friend. His accomplishments while racing and standing stud are just a small part of who Neptune was, he was above all a precious gift of life, love and spirit . . . Peace Neptune, until we meet again. " Grrrrrrrrr!!!!! This is how I feel right now actually!!! I just found out I have to go in for surgery in two weeks.... or maybe earlier. So, won't be able to go shooting for awhile but at least I can post some more of the prior shoots. What else will I do while I convelesce? UPDATE: Surgery is this Firday at 7 a.m. It was determined by the Dr. today that it is a little to crucial to wait much longer. Complications could arise. So, off I go on friday.... for repair. :) 5/18 @ 7a.m. Similar posts: do it yourself automotive repair nissan altima repair manual free credit repair jobs how to repair hail damage to a car roof valley repairs phone repair forum cell phone repair center tv and radio repair repair leather couch tear |

Leaving the Honda - Mitsubishi Dealership My car is having some repairs. Julie's car needed some repairs. She borrowed a car. It broke down. Then her car was repaired. Today I followed Jim to pick up the car that she'd borrowed after it was repaired. I took advantage of the drive and snapped photos around Valdosta, Georgia, USA. It was a beautiful, sunny December day in south Georgia--76 degrees Fahrenheit. Cylinder damage on my car Well I had a real bad end to a week. I was driving and suddenly lost all power. The bushing to my tensioner broke allowing my timing belt to let loose and so my valves went, one punched through a piston on the left and one is actually stuck in the piston. Now I have to decide on $4,000 for a new motor and repairs, or go with 4 years of payments on a new vehicle. 07.12.10 DanSinko, Neighbors CITIZEN PATRIOT • JAKE MAY Daniel Sinko has been looking for work since he earned his GED three years ago. Sinko graduated at age 17 from the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy in Battle Creek, where his parents sent him to straighten up in high school. He's even completed culinary school. Still, the 20-year-old Grass Lake resident relies on temporary and "odds and ends" jobs to make ends meet. "I can't find a real decent job. For me, it just seems like they aren't out there," he said. "I've straightened my act up and stopped acting stupid. That was years ago. I'm trying to do better for myself. I want a job." That call was heard by a friend's parent, who was able to put Sinko to work tearing down vehicles and removing parts. Scott Phelps, 39, of Jackson is saving up money to own an auto-repair shop. In the meantime, Sinko is helping keep Phelps' business alive. "He's a good worker and just a good man," Phelps said. "It's hard today to find people who know how to work, really work. … But Daniel, he gets it." Sinko said that in one week he's already pulled out about five radiators and worked on about one car a day. He said by the end of each day, he is covered from head to toe in oil and grease. "I'm very appreciative of what I have," he said. "I don't get much, but I need this money. I'm still hoping to find myself a full-time job somewhere. Here's hoping." At a glance … Name: Daniel Sinko Age: 20 Residence: Grass Lake Family: Mother Diane Sinko; stepfather Dave Dowb; stepbrothers Jason Dowb, 26, and Anthony Dowb, 28; and sister Susan Dowb, 14. Fun fact: Sinko enjoys fishing. While fishing for bass, he once caught a 26-inch northern pike. Looking Better! Here is a photograph of my 1983 Datsun 200sx. The head gasket had failed and I replaced it myself. Here, I have just put the head and timing chain back on. Each head bolt was torqued with a torque wrench to a certain specification. Each bolt had to be tightened in a circular pattern from the center to avoid head being warped. BTW: I had to check the head for any warping before I put the new gasket on the car. Now comes the fun part. Putting tin Intake manifold back on and reattaching brackets, pulleys, radiator hoses, Vacuum hoses, fuel hoses, linkage, ETC. This to me is the hardest part. Notice the white mark on the timing chain. This was done to mark where to align the chain once it is put back on the car. A friend of mine is a technician at Blackburn Motor Company. He is the 5 star tech who is qualified to work on the Dodge diesel Ram Trucks. I would see him working from time to time and think, Man! i'm glad I don't have to work on that. How would you remember what part goes where. As clients and customers we don't see the work and effort that must be done to repair a vehicle. The New TV Purchased On Craigslist I love tax refund season. It's when people go out and buy things they've been patiently waiting for. And as luck would have it, our big screen TV needed repairs that Kenny wasn't sure he wanted to try to get done. He loves to peruse through craigslist and saw this one and decided he'd like to go look at it. The stand came with it and a DVD player too. Kenny had the money with him and bought it. The young couple that sold it had recently gotten a new plasma TV and a new stand for it, it looked like a beautiful buffet. This whole set up was so heavy! But the couple were kind enough to load it on the truck for us. When we got home, we put the truck with the TV etc into the garage and waited until the next day for our daughter and son-in-law to bring it in for us and take the old one away.
