4 wheeled cruising with the dry here I've finally pulled out the twin bikes I picked up a few months ago. They are designed to be joined in order to make a 4 wheeled bike. I've used some old trampoline poles with U-bolts to see how it might go together. Next step will be bolting a piece of square tube steel to the front end and figuring out what wills suit best at the rear. Hopefully I can have it on the road by the end of the dry. 4 wheeled bike front This has a 6.5hp gas motor on it that powers the left wheel and the right wheel has a normal pedal/chain set up. C&O trip 2 with the recumbent In 2004 Jeff and I did 3/4ths of the C&O again. But this time I had bought myself a recumbent bike. The last trip left my hands numb whenever I got on a regular bike so I sucked it up, sold my mountain bike and bought this sucker. All I can say is that it's been one of the best purchases I've ever made. Absolutely comfortable ride, no matter how far you go. Everyone should have one of these. The frame is constructed of CU92 aluminum - lauded as an extremely strong frame. Like i've said before, this is one solid bike but it never got to see the miles it should've seen (those tires are original and still have good tread on them). This bike was an insurance bike after my GT Pantera was stolen -- I got a good hook-up on this bike as it was technically worth more than my GT over-all. The gear, shifter, and brake components on my GT were slightly lesser than those on my GIANT. I'll have to get new shoes and cleats to ride again -- I've conveniently lost my old ones (notice those are clipless pedals for those who don't know). This is my GIANT ATX 870. Project 365 - Day 034 - "Hooray for new bike parts" 3/30/07 I always get excited when newly mail-ordered bike parts arrive. On this occassion I picked up a new Fizik saddle for my road bike, a cheap 8-speed cassette for my rapidly disinegrating mountain bike and a pair of platform pedals with "Power Grips" (toe-clip alternative) for a few touring/bike-camping trips I have planned. I love riding the road bike with clipless shoes/pedals but logistically it doesn't work very well for 100+ mile bike trips with camping gear. clipless mountain bike shoes Slip your foot into the Sidi Women's Dominator 5 MTB Shoe, and feel the difference that Italian craftsmanship makes when you head out for your next club race, trail ride, or training session. BIKE HID LIGHT - BIKE PEDAL CLEAT - FUJI NEVADA 3.0 MOUNTAIN BIKE Bike Hid Light
Car Strobe High Power Light Kit with 4 Bulbs HID LED Bike Car Alarm This is a complete vehicle strobe light kit containing 2 U-type Super Bright Xenon bulbs. These are designed to be mounted OUTSIDE OR INSIDE THE car. The Strobe itself is made from high quality Water proof HID Strobe light ! If you're looking to add some style to your vehicle, then the Plug-In Strobe Light Kit is perfect for you. This strobe light kit contains this kit comes with 7 patterns. Fits into headlight, bumper light, corner light, and tail light. Installs with ease. Includes installation instructions, wiring system, switch. (5) www.motorbikeadventures.co.uk headlight reflectors halogen bulbs HID light reflectors HID conversion (55 watt) fitting your own HID 'www.motorbikeadventures.co.uk' 'headlight reflectors' 'halogen bulb Installation Fitting to Motorcycles When fitting to bikes, do it in 3 separate steps (1) Remove the headlight unit and do the fiddling around with the burners that way. Trying to fit the new burners without removing the headlight unit is a recipe for frustration swearing and skinned knuckles – and therefore misery. You will also need a 23-25 mm (1 inch) drill bit (you need to make a circular hole on the back of the headlight units two round caps.) (2) Find where you want to locate the ballasts, and mount them – make sure they are close enough to the headlights for the cables to reach – it’s near impossible to extend them Others have chosen different locations. There is no best answer. But do note that if you mount under the oil cooler on a GS or GSA, the forks “move forward” under compression, so the ballasts cannot project further back than that rear edge of the oil cooler. Some end up getting custom brackets made up for the ballasts, while my preferred option now that we have moved exclusively on to ultra-thin ballasts, is just to mount them with 3M VHB (Very High Bond) double sided tape or 3M VHB Dual Lock industrial Velcro or a small bracket that comes with the kits or cable ties. Everyone seems to find different locations to mount the ballasts and many ways to hold them in place. You have to be creative with motorbikes re ballasts mounting. There is always room though. (3) Connect everything up. And power up ! Note that sometimes the kits come with slightly different wires that are nominated in the installation booklets. The booklets refer to red being positive and black negative. Usually that’s the case with the kits but occasionally I get kits with blue and black wires. In those examples, the black wire remains negative, and the blue wire is positive. Here it is again in a bit more detail: HID Conversion Kit Installation, for BMW motorcycles. 1. Remove Headlight unit from motorcycle, ensuring motorcycle is switched off. No need to remove battery. 2. Unscrew the plastic caps at the back of the housing that provide access to the bulbs. 3. In the centre of the two plastic caps that were removed earlier, drill a 23-25 mm (1 inch) hole (with a hole saw bit or a flat wood bit). 4. Unlatch the bulb retaining spring clip, and remove the old halogen bulbs. The plastic that holds the spring clips is brittle and prone to break. Be careful. 5. Pass the bulb and two wires with open spade connectors through the newly drilled out hole in each plastic cap until the rubber grommet is seated in the newly drilled hole. 6. Insert new HID bulbs, ensuring they are correctly aligned. Note that the 4 wires will slide back and forwards through the grommet. I advise that when you are fiddling around getting the bulb in, that you pull as much wire to the bulb side of the grommet as possible to avoid skinned knuckles and excess frustration. When seating the new bulbs, the H1 is hard to get wrong, but the H7 is easily gotten wrong. Make sure the bulbs are correctly seated before closing the bulb retaining spring clip, again taking care not to damage the poorly made housing around the base of the spring clip. 7. Connect the spade connectors up to the motorcycle’s headlight power. (see 8 and 9 below for H7 and H1 respectively) 8. The spade connectors attach to the contact block that previously plugged into the back of the bulb. On a H7 kit, the brown BMW wire (negative) needs to lead to the black spade connector wire (negative). And the white or yellow BMW wire (positive) needs to connect to the blue or red spade connector wire (positive). 9. On a H1 kit, the BMW earth is plugged to the headlight housing and needs to be removed before connecting to the black spade connector. They may need to be crimped together with a pair of pliers if they are different shapes. The wire that connected to the H1 bulb is the positive and needs to be connected to the blue or red wire’s spade connector. 10. Plug the wires that come from the bulb into ballasts with the “its impossible to plug in the wrong way” connectors and check the HIDs have been wired up correctly by turning the appropriate lights on. Note both ballasts in the kit are identical, so you do not need to pair a particular ballast with a particular bulb. 11. Close up the headlight unit by screwing back in the plastic caps. Note that the 4 wires will slide back and forwards through the grommet. It is advisable to pull out excess wire from the headlight housing as you close the unit, to avoid having too much crowded wiring inside the cramped headlight housing. Similarly, I advise that when you are fiddling around getting the bulb in, that you pull as much wire to the bulb side of the grommet as possible to avoid skinned knuckles and excess frustration. 12. Next stage … mounting the ballasts. It’s really up to each individual to mount ballasts and a number of different brackets and locations are possible. Make sure the ballasts are mounted so that their cables can comfortably reach t motorbike hid lights High Intensity Discharge lighting is light from a plasma discharge rather than a filament. The system involves a combined igniters and ballast to start the light and maintain the current and certain gases and metal salts to create the light. Waterproof, Dustproof, Rustproof. HID lights have been shown to contribute to driving safety, studies have demonstrated that drivers react faster and more accurately to obstacles with HID lights rather than halogen ones. With 300% more light than a standard halogen bulb you will be amazed how much better you can actually see driving on dark roads We have stayed away from the really cheap rubbish that you can buy but have also stayed away from the named brand as they are exactly the same as what we sell. We just don’t charge silly prices and our fitting service is very good too. As above our kits come in Slim line only `who needs bulky kits`some kits come with brackets for fitting the units and all the screws and bolts or the kits come with two extra long cable ties as this is the best method for fitting you units. The bikes below are fittings that we have done from all 4 lights on a BMW R1200GS Adventure to a BMW GT. H.I.D Conversion Kits provide more than 300 percent more light than a Halogen bulb. The clear white light produced by H.I.D Conversion Kits is similar to daylight, reflecting road markings and signs better than conventional lighting. In general, HID bulbs are able to take a lot more punishment than standard filament halogen bulbs. Why? Several reasons. Firstly because they do not run as hot as halogen bulbs (because HID is a more efficient system for turning electrical energy into light, it wastes much less as heat). Without the superheated glass that you get on a halogen bulb, you don’t get the propensity to shatter or explode that halogen bulbs have if any dirt or finger grease gets on the glass. Secondly, consider how a halogen bulb works. A fine strand of tungsten wire is superheated to 3200 degrees, so hot that the metal glows white (or nearly white). As a motorcycle rides over rough roads, this glowing hot wire is vibrated constantly, until it breaks. With a HID bulb, there is no wire filament. The light is created by a glowing arc between two electrodes. There is no ultrafine, superheated wire to overheat or to vibrate apart. bike hid light Features: Can be used as Headlamp or Bicycie Light Model of LED: CREE XM-L T6 LED Output bright can come to max 1000 lumens [lm] Internal wiring applies the high efficient booster circuit, working voltage is wide and can utilize the batteries in the largest extent. Bike pump with gauge : Lightweight bike frame : Myrtle beach bike rally 2011. Bike Pump With Gauge
2009 1210horl0040 Already rather tired-looking (rusting) National Cycleway Network signpost. I never did really like these things, too much 'arty', not enough functionality. Without stopping it's hard to read the information on them, and I'm afraid when I'm on a bike, stopping to read every poxy signpost and admire its somewhat dubious artwork is not a high priority. I mean look at the pathetic size of the towns labelled on this one, and compare it with a normal fingerpost. These were paid for by the National Lottery and RBS, the Royal Bank of Scotland. Another fine mess... Take a close look at the design details - use large size. It looks like the artist was given the remit "Do something about fossil fuels", so he's done a few things about petrol and added a few fossils - yet not one of the fossils described would actually create a 'fossil fuel' - i.e. none of them are plants, which would make coal (land plants) or oil (phytoplankton etc). This sort of added crapulence just makes it all the more juvenile and dumbed down as far as I'm concerned. Some might say I'm being harsh, 'Come on Notes, they tried their best' etc. If this is their best, someone is paying them waaaay too much. It is a travesty of misinformed pap, masquerading as educational art, in my humble-but-correct opinion. If only someone had asked the cyclists a simple question - 'what do you need?' I guarantee they would have answered: 'Clear, helpful directions, please.' Sorry, feeling grumpy :-/ Joe Blow Yes, that is the name of this bicycle pump, a Topeak Joe Blow. It seems such a simple thing, but there are features on a pump that are really important. - A fairly accurate gauge, so you know how much air you are putting in the tires. I like this one because it’s up near the top, making it easier to read. - A big fat comfy handle - A locking plunger, so you can carry it around and not have it extending when your try to grab it by the handle. - A good pump head for the type of valve you are using. All my bikes now are presta, so I really want it to work well with presta. This pump fits all the criteria See also: spray paint bike wood bicycle fenders children's bicycle seats chicago bike blog kids bicycle clothing barbie bike basket polar bicycle computers free bike race bmx bikes 24 |

Aluminum fenders/mudguards, working lights, rack, and a nicely working Komet coaster brake. Future upgrades will include a Sturmey S5/2 hub, an ARO 100mm front drum hub(that will make the lil' poop stop), alloy rims, Ideale saddle, and different stem and bars. I've already laced the rear rim, will true that later in the week. I'll need to cut and thread spokes for the front. The ARO hub has a ginormus flange on the brakes side. The small side is about one quarter the size so I gots to go back to Spocalc and reconbobulate what spokes I'll need for the front. Eddy Merckx Folding Bike French-made Eddy Merckx folding bike seen on the street in NYC. Judging from the the graphics and the 3-speed Simplex derailleur, I would tentatively date this to 1974. An unremarkable bike in every respect, except for the decals. In addition, I did not know that any French company had a license to sell Eddy Merckx branded bikes. It's possible this was bought by Kessels in Belgium as an unbranded bike and then resold. Or even more likely, a bike bought by Falcon of England, rebranded and exported to the US. Any information on this bike would be welcome. (8) Blonde Gaijin Gaijin (foreigners in Japan) explained: Why did the Japanese say “Southern barbarians” (???- nanbanjin) for the first (Western) European visitors? Their ships were coming from Macao Why are there so many Koreans in Okubo, near Shinjuku? It was the cheapest inner city area, and near the Shinjuku red light and pachinko district where many Koreans worked. Why do so many Japanese ask foreigners if they have four seasons? I read an argument that it was because the Japanese used to make such a big deal out of changing their wardrobe 4 times a year, but I’m not convinced. It mainly comes down to education, where the fixed syllabus of both kindergartens and primary schools emphasises starting all topics with a connection to the local area and then expanding out, and making all topics seasonal. The obsession with four seasons is also yet another one of those things that was borrowed from classic Chinese literature. Why do the Japanese ask “Can you eat sushi” instead of “Do you like”? It’s a direct translation from Japanese Why do blonde gaijin women get so much more attention? If you are going to go for Western women, you are going to be looking for something really different from the Japanese. There is also the influence of imported porno. Why are the Japanese police so obsessed with checking if foreigners have registered the ownership of their pushbike? I’m guessing the arrest rate is high, as who can be bothered registering a bike?? Like the British police, the Japanese police are set arrest rate targets. Why do some people handing out leaflets or tissues in the street avoid giving gaijin any? With a dedication to a crap job rarely seen outside Japan, they are giving them only to the specific people the advertising is aimed at. With foreigners it can be an assumption you will not be able to read the Japanese script written on it, but it is more often that you are not in that market segment, e.g. not a young lady who might be looking for a job in their hostess bar. Why is Japanese deodorant to ineffective for Westerners? The classic explanation is that the Japanese do not sweat or smell as much, and the second might be true in some cases. More importantly, the Japanese equivalents of P&G (Kaoo etc.) obviously have some kind of monopolistic hold on the drugstore market because this is one of the few sectors where Japanese companies produce such rubbish products that not even people in other Asian countries will buy them. Shiseido and Shu Uemura are the exceptions, but again you will you not find them getting a lot of shelf space in your neighbourhood drug store. Why do gaijin (foreign) guys who could never score at home always link up in Japan? Popular theories usually mention how sad the average Japanese salaryman is and the gaijin boyfriend being just a fashion accessory, free English conversation partner or novelty item for a Japanese girl to impress her friends with. Other possibilities include the Japanese girlfriend feeling freer due to not being restricted by the Japanese language (no way to say I love you in normal Japanese conversation!) and his family being several thousand miles away. I believe the main reason is that the gaijin male quickly convinces himself that he can throw off his lack of success at home, and so his does- pure self-belief. Any unusual social skills can also be passed off as being a foreigner or other cultural or language misunderstanding. There is also the general question of why outsiders instantly become better dating prospects, which is possibly tied into the desireability of bringing other genes into the limited gene pools that the often isolated groups of early humans would have been. Why do the Japanese, especially girls, stare at foreigners? As a foreigner, you are outside the system and so people feel free in a way they wouldn’t usually (and being out of the loop, you are free too). Also, staring at guys is not seen as a come on as someone who is interested would act coy and avoid eye contact. In Japan, you can tell when a guy in the office fancies you when they never address you directly during work drinks. Why do some foreigners shun other gaijin, even avoiding eye contact? Some are wanting to do the whole total immersion thing and/ or trying to make themselves Japanese (good luck being accepted as a local guys!), but most are just confused by the lack of clear rules of dealing with other gaijin of various nationalities and periods of being in Japan when the rules of dealing with locals is so much clearer and therefore simpler. How do the Nigerian guys trying to pull you into dodgy bars in Roppongi get visas and/ or get away with not having visas? Protected by the yakuza?? Why are/ were there so many Iranian hostess bars? They could get visas and/ or lost their jobs in the hospitality trade back home after the fall of the Shah?? Why do some Japanese choose their hostess bar by nationality, e.g. Filipino bar or Korean bar? They had good expe Flushing Ave, BKLYN 10/03/07 I love riding my bike, however the rain stings my skin. I passed the bar several times. Just a few blocks from the Navy Yard. It looked deserted. I envisioned it filled with faded stools and anchor decor. Today, in the morning when I rode by there was a sign for happy hour 7-9. I was intrigued. Were there sea captains inside, sailors, peg legs and all. I tried a little internet research. My search came up with plenty of photographic documentation of the bar. It appeared others were intrigued with it as well. However there was none to be said about what was inside. On the door it says you must be 23 to enter, there were a few odd comments about that. Someone said it was a strip club. No way I thought that dinky dive bar. On the way home I lingered on the corner pondering whether I should peek inside, or turn the corner on my bike and peddle home. Someone in a passing car hollered "whore". I cracked a smile. Just then I noticed an older guy was checking the mail box. "What kind of bar is this" I asked. "Oh you know a bar" he says. " Like a normal corner bar" I say. "Well yeah, but there are some added perks, a pool table, girls dancing" he says. I drilled him some more about the contents of the bar. How many girls? How big was it in there? But he clams up after a while, maybe he thinks I'm a cop. I decide to check it out for myself. I just had to know what it was like in there. He offered I could chain my bike around the side at the back of the bar, I told him the light post was good enough. I stepped through the front door that had several peep holes and a obvious camera or two. Once inside it looked like any other dive. Although right inside the doorway were 6 tv monitors. Cameras all on the outside of the bar. I didn't see many girls, but I suspect there is a backroom or a basement of sorts. Some ladies came and went from somewhere while I sat. I ordered a beer and played some touch arcade games. Happy hour $3 corona, nice. I felt comfortable there. The old guy chatted me up for a minute and let me be. Some other guy was speaking spanish to me and called me princess before he realized we were not acquainted. I just opened my eyes and took it all in signs for the barmaids, kitsch, the old guy in the center of a photo of a bunch of black honey's. The thing is these bars all smell the same. There was something very nostalgic about being there. Cheap perfume, babywipes, women. There was some explicit hip hop bumping in the background. It sure brought me back, and I just may go back. Dino: Living High in the Dirty Business of Dreams From dealing blackjack in the small-time gangster town of Steubenville, Ohio, to carousing with the famous "Rat Pack" in a Hollywood he called home, Dean Martin lived in a grandstand, guttering life of booze, broads, and big money. He rubbed shoulders with the mob, the Kennedys, and Hollywood's biggest stars. He was one of America's favorite entertainers. But no one really knew him. Now Nick Tosches reveals the man behind the image--the dark side of the American dream. It's a wild, illuminating, sometimes shocking tale of sex, ambition, heartaches--and a life lived hard, fast, and without apologies. From the Paperback edition. Only a handful of showbiz biographers can lay claim to posessing the literary acumen of writers like Michael Holroyd and Peter Ackroyd. Nick Tosches is one of these writers, and his unauthorized biography of Dean Martin stands as a testament to his genius. Several inimitable sequences in which Tosches adopts his subject's perspective (most of which are regrettably unsuitable for quotation here) make the book a real standout. Dino is a fascinating portrait of a man who had it all--money, fame, women--and didn't give a damn about any of it and suggests that, even as he wallowed in the excesses of Hollywood and the Rat Pack, Martin stayed critically aloof from that world, albeit often in a booze-and-pill-addled haze. He got into showbiz precisely because it required so little effort of him: "I can't stand an actor or actress who tells me acting is hard work," he once said. "It's easy work. Anyone who says it is hard never had to stand on his feet all day dealing blackjack." Nobody could impress Martin. While Frank Sinatra would do anything just to hang out with reputed Mafioso, the Mob would have to make special trips to ask Martin in person to play a show at one of their casinos. Tosches' portrait, written only a few years before Martin's death in 1996, depicts its subject as nothing so much as a Zen master without the spiritual anchor; after sampling everything that life had to offer and finding it lacking, Martin spent the last years of his life waiting to die in virtual seclusion. Viceroy - Eastern Comma - Red Admiral I enjoyed watching these three battle on the same piece of spoiled fruit. The Viceroy was very aggressive toward the Eastern Comma but the Comma eventually ran both others away. After a while they all ate together again then the Viceroy was aggressive again and the Comma ran toward the Viceroy forcing it to take to the air. The observations that I have had is the Easter Comma is usually larger and a faster flyer than the other two. Eastern Intrascendental design number n+1. I know this model has a pathetic structure. However i like it, its the eastern dragon that I was looking for =D. Diseno intrascendental numero n+1 Ya se, este diseno tiene un CP hediondo, pero no importa. Our Book Club has seven members, old enough to be grandmothers, and we think about the younger generations facing global climate change. We wanted to take action for the 350.org International Day of Climate Awareness Action so we decided to come up with a list of books that would inspire people to change their lives to help with global climate change. We asked our friends to recommend some too. So here are some books that we hope will get people thinking and talking about how to make changes in their own lives, in their communities, and in their countries to bring the carbon dioxide level down to 350. We hope other book clubs and individuals will like the books as much as we did. Patty, from our book club says: The most influential book for me way back in the 70s was Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring, it was the beginning of the environmental movement then and should still be read today. Eileen’s from the book club too - My daughter left this book with me before moving to Washington DC and it is really good. Actually I would recommend it for any book club - The World Without Us by Alan Weisman. It is a very hopeful book about the environment. Lauren, book club member – I recommend The Lazy Environmentalist on a Budget (Save Money, Save Time and Save the Planet) by Josh Dorfman. This is a very practical book with tips on how to do easy small things that help. Because of this book, we turned in our minivan, under the Cash for Clunkers Program, and purchased a Honda Fit - a car that was recommended in this book. We also like it because it was given as a gift by one of our kids who aspires toward more green living herself and is always nudging us to do so too. This book is right up our alley for it's immediate practicality - breaking the problem down into small, doable, realistic pieces. Mary (the book club meets at Mary’s house) –Loved the book Devils Teeth by Susan Casey, a gripping nonfiction account of life on the Farallon Islands just outside the Golden Gate in San Francisco. There, not far from our shore, is a wild world of seabirds, seals and great white sharks, whose power and beauty so close to our homes is miraculous. Barbara, Mary’s best friend and book club member - recommends Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver. Just like in the book, our Barbara raises a lot of her own vegetables in her front yard and has happily kept chickens in the city for many years. She also recommends Toxic Loopholes by Craig Collins, coming out in summer 2010. This book explains how polluters get around legal environmental protections. Craig is Barbara’s husband. Carole, Mary’s other best friend, says - Another great book our book club read was Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan. It was a real education about how wasteful, polluting and unhealthy the American food delivery system is and how we can change it. No more regular hamburger for my family after that book! It’s grass fed, free range from now on. These next four books came to us from our friends who belong to Green Sangha a local environmental group seeking environmental change through peaceful actions. The American Earth, 2008. As America and the world grapple with the consequences of global environmental change, writer and activist Bill McKibben gathers the best and most significant American environmental writing from the last two centuries. Edited by Bill McKibben. In Defense of Food, by Michael Pollan. In the book, Pollan postulates that the answer to healthy eating is simply to "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." Pollan argues that nutritionism as an ideology has overly complicated and harmed American eating habits. He says that rather than focusing on eating nutrients, people should focus on eating the sort of food that their ancestors would recognize. Farm City, by Novella Carpenter. The desire for a simpler life in the country, filled with the excitement of living like pioneers, spurred Novella Carpenter's parents to move away from the Bay Area in the 1970s. While their countercultural back-to-the-land experiment ultimately fell apart, the underlying idea persevered, and, in the midst of working on her master's degree at UC Berkeley, Carpenter decides to dig a garden and start raising turkeys, rabbits and pigs. Only the difference is she's not farming out in the middle of nowhere; she's raising food on a vacant lot behind her apartment on 28th Street in Oakland. The Dream of the Earth, by Thomas Berry. This classic eco-theological work was first published in 1988. Thomas Berry, one of the leading environmental thinkers in North America, presents a vision based on courtesy and empathy for the earth and all living things. Berry celebrates the human-earth relations pioneered by Native Americans and calls for further steps in the healing of the planet. He believes that churches The Border, not a very pretty place ***Milly almost finds her breaking point ***** ***************************************** I have realised that there maybe a point that I crack. I headed off at midday toward the Norwegian border it was drizzling the scenery was ugly, the trees has shrunk, I was cycling along scrub land. After about 40km I find myself at the Finish Norwegian Border, it is ugly and Norway across the border looks uninspiring. I cycle on rather unwillingly looking forward to coming to the first Norwegian town to have a coffee another 40km away. It’s raining and I am cycling into a head wind my legs feel tired and I know that my over optimistic target of Alta on the sea, another 180km away is not going to happen. Suddenly, as I come to the top of a gradual hill, there in front of me is a race track of a road, for miles lots and lots of swooping hills, my heart lifts and I find I am grinning and; “Yipppppppppppppeeeeeeeee” I shout, I find power back in my legs and fire down the first hill. HELLLLOOOOOO Norway! I remember how much I love hills and race along, before long I find the cycle tourer who set of before me, I zoom past him, “Hellooooooo” I shout as I fly past him and up the next hill leaving him cranking along at an amazingly slow place and I thought wow I didn’t think someone could cycle so slowly. The first town in Norway is really awful and as with nearly all the towns that I came to in the north of Norway, looks like an industrial state (This is due to quick rebuilding after the second world war). I top up on coffee and some food from the supermarket. To my joy the sun comes out. I set off and I decide that a 220km day is possible, it was 4:00pm and I still had another 120km to go, but hey the sun never sets! It’s not long when my legs tire, the 380km the previous two days catch up on me. It begins to rain, I am so so tired. I put my waterproof coat on, OK I say to myself you can stop, just look for a place to camp, but I know that there is a part of me that won’t give in. It is now pouring with rain, I am soaked, with 100km to go I see a roadside cafe I go in. I leave a river of water behind me as I walk and to their great amusement I ask them to fill my water bottle. I take the opportunity of shelter to put an extra layer under my coat then head off. The rain is now torrential hammering on my hood, echoing in my head, I have rivers running through my shoes, I can’t look up as the rain is lashing into my eyes and I try to work out why I am so against waterproof trousers. There is no shelter anywhere so I have to go on, it’s 90km to go and the rain is still pouring I stand in the rain and eat a lot of food then take a packet of Jaffa cakes into my left hand and set off. It is this moment that changes everything, I cycle along and turn my head to the side so I can see without the rain hammering into my eyes and push a Jaffa cake up out of the packet and feed it into my mouth. It is bizarre, I see the Jaffa cake and have to double take to check that I am actually pedalling a bike in the pouring rain in the arctic circle, as for that moment I felt like I was sitting somewhere inside, very dry and cosy eating a Jaffa cake with a cup of tea. It was then I knew I was going to make it to Alta, I could do another 90km. I finished the packet of Jaffa cakes and then went a little mad, I whooped and screeched and laughed as I went along I was truly happy! The rain kept pouring in unbelievable quantities and I began singing at the top of my voice. To keep going I constructed an opera around me about being in love with the yellow signs that appeared every 10km telling me the distance to Alta, I would be dying to see them then when they appeared I would decide actually they weren’t quite right for me and the next sign would be the true love…. Mmm one for the West End perhaps? At 40km to go the rain was still torrential it was quite amazing that it was still going. The noise of the rain in my head was beginning to get to me, there was still no where to shelter and now with a lake to one side and a steep hill to the other no where to put a tent up. The roads were rivers, I was getting quite cold. “Please God just let it stop raining” I found my self repeating. I caught myself and managed to get a grip again. The scenery was amazing, I was now cycling along a rushing river through a gorge but I could still barely see for the rain and all I could think was this would be great if it wasn’t raining. I lost it again. It was getting very cold and now I was beginning to really panic, I need to be dry, I need to be dry I was repeating in my head. I knew I had to get a hotel I had to get dry, so at 20km to go I get off my bike find the guide book and my phone I can barely hold the phone as my hands have ceased up. I manage to dial the number of the hotel, it rings, only once, then my phone dies. I am at breaking point, I stand in the rain, exhausted, cold, extremely wet, I can’t move See also: dirt bike number stickers rolf bike wheels desk bike pedals 3 speed bikes for sale used bike gear huffy bike rims elite fluid alu indoor bicycle trainer |

Concept2 Model D Indoor Rowing Machine Manufactured by the company that set the standard in rowing, the Concept2 Model D Indoor Rower delivers proven performance and fitness benefits. Concept2 Indoor Rowers are used worldwide by Olympic athletes, cardiac rehab patients, and every caliber of rower in between. Rowing provides superb total-body cardiovascular conditioning in a smooth impact-free exercise. A great investment, this commercial-grade machine is recommended for home use and supported with free online motivational tools such as the Concept2 online logbook, rowing challenges and training forum. The self-calibrating Performance Monitor (PM3), included with each Model D, displays workout data, five display options, a LogCard to record results, games and more! Every Concept2 Indoor Rower comes with a 30-day money back guarantee and limited 2-year parts, 5-year frame warranty. Whether you already row or are considering rowing as a way to keep in shape, cross train for another sport, or compete on the water, the Concept2 Model D indoor rowing machine is a terrific choice. Rowing offers several benefits over other exercises: it exercises your entire body, including the arms, legs, chest, back, and abs; its low-impact rhythm is easy on the knees and ankles; it burns a ton of calories because it uses so many muscle groups; and it relieves stress. The Model D adds to these benefits by offering such features as a quiet flywheel that’s designed to minimize noise while providing the smooth feel of rowing on the water, along with a spiral damper that lets rowers choose the feel of a sleek, fast boat or a slow, heavy boat. The Model D offers a different rowing experience than the rowing you did as a kid. The difference lies in the sliding seat, which compresses and extends your legs with every stroke, in addition to the more obvious work being done by the back and arms. This promotes both strength and flexibility throughout the wide range of leg and arm motion, while challenging the back in the middle of the stroke and the abs at the end. In addition, customers say that the rhythmic nature of rowing helps clear the head and ease the stress of the day. The Model D comes with a PM3 performance monitor that accurately tracks your distance, speed, pace, calories, and watts, with five display options for rowers--all data, force curve, rowing with a pace boat, bar chart, and large print. The monitor also provides easy menu-driven operation, letting you access a powerful list of features, including preset and favorite workouts, trials against a previous performance or pace boat, FISH games, animated rowers that teach techniques, and multiple language options. If motivation is what you need, you'll find it in Concept2’s online challenges, Million Meter Club, and online ranking. The Model D is also notably comfortable, with an ergonomic handle that allows for a natural arm and hand position; an aluminum rail capped with a stainless-steel track for smooth seat movements; and adjustable Flex-foot footrests. Other details include a removable LogCard that stores your workout data and personal preferences; built-in heart rate monitoring with an optional Polar receiver (sold separately); a USB interface for easy data transfer to a PC or Mac; caster wheels for quick mobility; and a collapsible design for efficient transport and storage. The Model D requires a footprint of 9 by 4 feet for use and offers a weight capacity of 500 pounds. It also carries a five-year warranty on frame parts and a two-year warranty on moving parts and the monitor. A built-in multifunction monitor displays distance, calories burned, speed, and time as you workout. Built for smooth operation, the Air Rower features an oversized, angled seat rail and smooth sliding seat for easy seat return. The seat is padded and upholstered for comfort and the textured grips are designed for a stable and secure grip while rowing. Large footplates and adjustable nylon foot straps accommodate any size of user. When you're not using the Air Rower, the steel frame folds and rolls away on built-in wheels.
