1980S FASHION TRENDS - 1980S FASHION
1980S FASHION TRENDS - WEBSITES FOR GIRLS WHO LOVE FASHION.
1980s Fashion Trends
- A fad, sometimes called a trend, meme or a craze, is any form of behavior that develops among a large population and is collectively followed with enthusiasm for some period, generally as a result of the behavior's being perceived as novel in some way.Kornblum (2007), p. 213.
- Gradual changes in fashion styles
- It is the direction in which fashion is moving.

Totally Awesome 80s: A Lexicon of the Music, Videos, Movies, TV Shows, Stars, and Trends of that Decadent Decade
The 80s revival starts here!
The 80s ended only a few years ago, but already the days of Dynasty, skinny ties, and Valley Girls beckon. In Totally Awesome 80s, Matthew Rettenmund drops the touchy-feely 90s and dredges up the garish, glorious 80s. He's captured it all, from Culture Club to Men at Work, parachute pants to Members Only jackets, E.T. to Porky's, Moonlighting to The Cosby Show, and much more.
Deliciously wicked and unnervingly hip, Totally Awesome 80s holds a mirror up to that indulgent decade and lets us laugh at the all-too-familiar reflection.
Who could forget the decade that brought us AIDS, Milli Vannilli, teen slasher movies, and a sitting U.S. president with an advanced case of Alzheimer's disease? Well, I guess that question answers itself, but for those who wish to remember, no finer source can be found than Totally Awesome 80s, by Matthew Rettenmund, the man who brought us Encyclopedia Madonnica. This loving but ironic catalog of the most important cultural events of the 80s is fittingly slim, flashy, and shallow, covering mostly the poppiest movies, songs, and political actions of the era that told us "greed is good."

Canterbury High School
Punk culture and camouflage come together once again in this witty ensemble by Evelyne Hopky. Drawing on a trend popular in the mid- 1970s and early 1980s, this creation follows in the unconventional footsteps of designers such as Vivienne Westwood and Jean-Paul Gaultier. Provocatively short shorts, high heels and a military-inspired jacket blend seamlessly in an outfit styled in the purest punk tradition.
My Ribbon Barrette Maker
There’s just no denying it: 1980s fashions are back in style. Embrace the trend with this classic ribbon barrette. Nothing says the 80?s quite like classic retro ribbon barrettes. When I was in grade school these were all the rage and everyone had them in colors to match every outfit. Oops, I think I just aged myself. Oh well! I remember learning to make ribbon barrettes in Girl Scouts. Ahh the memories …" learn more at myfbm.com

80s Fashion Is Back - How To Get Tickets To Fashion Week 2011 - Celebrity Fashion 2011.
80s Fashion Is Back
- While in the 1970s, the silhouette of fashion tended to be characterized by close fitting clothes on top with wider, looser clothes on the bottom, this trend completely reversed itself in the early 1980s as both men and women began to wear looser shirts and tight, close-fitting pants.

Fashion shop owner, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia
This woman runs a small fashion shop in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, selling mainly fakes of European fashion brands. She is very much an example of the young entrepreneurs who are appearing all over the country, making what they can for themselves in these changing times. The changing room behind her is an alcove separated from the shop by a shower curtain, and the fittings were very basic. Still, her English was excellent and she was committed to her job. Good luck to her.

FRENCH FASHION 1900. FRENCH FASHION
French fashion 1900. Winter fashion trend. Hijab fashion
French Fashion 1900
- Fashion has been an important industry and cultural export of France since the seventeenth century, and modern "haute couture" originated in Paris in the 1860s.
- 1900 (MCM) was an exceptional common year starting on Monday (link will display the full calendar) of the Gregorian calendar, but a leap year starting on Saturday
- (1900s) the decade from 1900 to 1909
- 1900 is the fifth album by Caramel Jack. Released in 2008. The Artwork for the cover of 1900 was designed by Sussex based illustrator Nelson Evergreen.
Saint Nicolas Orthodox Cathedral from Nice Cote d'Azur France
The Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Nice (Cathedrale Orthodoxe Russe Saint-Nicolas de Nice) is a Russian Orthodox cathedral, and a national monument of France, located in the city of Nice. Opened in 1912, thanks to the generosity of Tsar Nicholas II, it is the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral outside Russia. There is currently an ownership dispute over the property. The parish, which belongs to an overseas Russian Orthodox jurisdiction under the authority of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, opposes a claim on the property by the Patriarchate of Moscow, which has the backing of the Russian government(citation needed). The dispute seemingly stems from a conflict between old Russian nobility who have long since settled in Nice and newly arrived Russians. A subjective account of the dispute, favoring the current administration, can be read in the following text translated from the French, which formed the bulk of this entry prior to edit:
From a religious point of view, this claim is considered by the local noble Russian community as unlawful, since the cathedral belongs to the Orthodox Church of Constantinople and therefore has nothing to do with the Church of Moscow. They also underline that a religious matter should not be dealt with by the Russian state. What is more, this claim from Russian authorities is also linked to the arrival of newly emigrated wealthy Russians, who belong to the business Russian classes or even to the mafia. The old noble Russians who have lived in Nice for decades are unwilling to see they cathedral under the authority of a corrupt government and "invaded" by Russians whose wealth is openly known to be from illegal activities. They also noticed that the behavior of these newcomers is far from what it should be from truly religious people: indecent clothes in a very religious building, a clear tendency to show off how rich they are, a mere respct of religious dogma but no real Christian values underneath. There has also been a recent case of false accusation against the previous archbishop of the cathedral, led by newly come Russians."
Since the mid-19th century, Russian nobility visited Nice and the French Riviera, following the fashion established decades earlier by the English upper class and nobility. In 1864, immediately after the railway reached Nice, Tsar Alexander II visited by train and was attracted by the pleasant climate. Thus began an association between Russians and the French Riviera that continues to this day. The Cathedral was established to serve the large Russian community that had settled in Nice by the end of the 19th century, as well as devote visitors from the Imperial Court. Tsar Nicholas II funded the construction of the Cathedral, which was inaugurated in December 1912.
Nice (IPA: [nis]; Nicard Occitan: Nica [classical norm] or Nissa [nonstandard], Italian: Nizza or Nizza Marittima, Greek: ??????, Latin: Nicaea) is a city in southern France located on the Mediterranean coast, between Marseille, France, and Genoa, Italy, with 1,197,751 inhabitants in the 2007 estimate. The city is a major tourist centre and a leading resort on the French Riviera (Cote d'Azur). It is the historical capital city of the County of Nice (Comte de Nice).
The first known human settlements in the Nice area date back approximately 400,000 years;[1] the Terra Amata archeological site shows one of the earliest uses of fire and construction of houses and flint findings are dated as around 230,000 years old.[2] Nice (Nicaea) was probably founded around 350 BC by the Greeks of Massilia (Marseille), and was given the name of ?????? ("Nikaia") in honour of a victory over the neighbouring Ligurians (Nike is the Greek goddess of victory). The city soon became one of the busiest trading ports on the Ligurian coast; but it had an important rival in the Roman town of Cemenelum, which continued to exist as a separate city until the time of the Lombard invasions. The ruins of Cemenelum are located in Cimiez, which is now a district in Nice.
In the 7th century, Nice joined the Genoese League formed by the towns of Liguria. In 729 the city repulsed the Saracens; but in 859 and again in 880 the Saracens pillaged and burned it, and for most of the 10th century remained masters of the surrounding country.
During the Middle Ages, Nice participated in the wars and history of Italy. As an ally of Pisa it was the enemy of Genoa, and both the King of France and the Emperor endeavoured to subjugate it; but in spite of this it maintained its municipal liberties. During the course of the 13th and 14th centuries the city fell more than once into the hands of the Counts of Provence; and at length in 1388 the commune placed itself under the protection of the Counts of Savoy. Nice (called Nizza in Italian) participated - directly or indirectly - in the history of Savoy up until 1860.
The maritime strength of Nice now rapidly increased until it was able to cope with the Barbary pirates;
A Queen Anne Style Villa - The Grove, Coburg
This Queen Anne style villa of large proportions may be found in The Grove, the elm lined and most prestigious street in the inner Melbourne suburb of Coburg.
Built between Federation (1901) and the Great War (1914), the choice of red brick to construct the villa with is very in keeping with the Arts and Crafts Movement, as is the half timber and rough cast stucco of the bargeboard underneath the gables. With three chimneys, this is certainly a sizeable residence. The Art Nouveau stained glass in the bay windows feature stylised roses and garlands, whilst the French doors leading out onto a porch on the left hand side of the photograph feature large bows .
Queen Anne style, which was mostly a residential style inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement in England, but also encompassed some of the more stylised elements of Art Nouveau, which gave it an more decorative look. Queen Anne style was most popular around the time of Federation. With complex roofline structures and undulating facades, many Queen Anne houses fell out of fashion at the beginning of the modern era, and were demolished.
Queen Anne style houses with their complex gables challenged the formality of the mid and high Victorian styles that preceded it, and were often designed with uniquely angular floor plans. This house appears to be no exception to the rule as it has a front door at the far righ hand side of the photograph, which suggests a less traditional layout.
The Grove, was part of the Moreland Park Estate. This was Coburg's most prestigious subdivision in the 1880s. In 1882 Charles Moreland Montague Dare, a St Kilda businessman, bought Jean Rennie's forty acre farm and, with his architect, T. J. Crouch, subdivided thirty acres of it into 147 allotments. The Grove was originally christened Moreland Grove after its owner. A covenant was placed on the subdivision prohibiting the building of hotels or shops, or any house under the value of 400 pounds. By 1890 there were twenty-four brick houses on the estate, twenty one of them owned by Charles Moreland Montague Dare himself. There was a caretaker to tend the streets, the wooden pavilion and the tennis courts, which soon became a bowling rink to suit the more sedate interests of the residents. Men of substance, including a banker, a merchant, a manufacturer and several civil servants and accountants lived on the estate and the Moreland Park Ladies' College in The Grove offered a genteel education. By the 1890s the Melbourne property boom had burst and by 1900 there were still only twenty seven houses in The Grove and many vacant allotments; Charles Moreland Montague Dare's own place at "Moreland Park", a ten acre property on Merri Creek, added to the rural atmosphere. In 1896 Dare fell into financial difficulties and had to transfer many of his properties to the Australian Widows' Fund Life Assurance Society. In 1900 he owned only seven houses, a few allotments and Moreland Park. He died in 1919.

MAD MEN FASHION FOR MEN - FASHION FOR MEN

- huffy: roused to anger; "stayed huffy a good while"- Mark Twain; "she gets mad when you wake her up so early"; "mad at his friend"; "sore over a remark"

Mad Men: Season Two [Blu-ray]
Genre: Television: Series
Rating: TV14
Release Date: 14-JUL-2009
Media Type: Blu-Ray
Mad Men returns, and guess what? It’s still one of the best shows on TV. Season two continues the slow progression to absolute greatness. The first season left us with a number of cliffhangers, and the beginning of the second season doesn’t cleanly wrap things up. Instead, we leap forward nearly 2 years and are thrown into an even more tumultuous time where the Norman Rockwell-idealized era is only ideal on the surface (slightly below we find rampant alcoholism, marriage dissolution, casual sexism and racism). There is resolution, eventually, for all the questions left unanswered, but in true slow-as-molasses-but-still-riveting Mad Men form, we get to wait the entire season for answers.
A lot has changed in these two years at Sterling-Cooper and it is exciting watching the 60’s progress through the unique lens of Mad Men. Everything that made Season one incredibly compelling television is back. The terrific acting, pitch-perfect writing, gorgeous art direction and impressive attention to detail are all the unshakeable foundation to a meandering yet precise plotline that keeps the viewer glued to the television. Special features include extensive commentaries and featurettes that examine 1960’s fashion, the rise of women in the workplace, and defining historical events of the era.—Kira Canny

Kalk Bay Harbour
The small fishing village of Kalk Bay, nestled between the mountains and the sea, is only a 30 minute drive from the centre of Cape Town yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The village of Kalk Bay was probably established in the 17th century as a small community of lime-burners who used kilns to extract lime from the sea shell deposits for use in the construction of buildings. mined the nearby deposits of limestone. Its name was derived from the Dutch term for lime. In 1795 the Dutch located a small military outpost here, and after 1806 it began to flourish as a fishing village and whaling station. In the 1840's a Philippine ship was wrecked off Cape Point and many of the sailors settled in Kalk Bay adding substantially to the small fishing community that had developed. Over the years some Philippine sailors deserted from ships visiting the Cape joined them as well as emancipated slaves from the East Indies. These Philippine settlers were Catholic and had to row by boat to Simonstown for mass leading in 1858 to the St James Catholic Church being built nearby and of course giving the name to the area next to Kalk Bay in later years. In later years a small mosque was built (located between Gatesville and Quarterdeck roads) by the Malaysian community that had also settled in the area.Certainly Kalk Bay's next 'great event' was the arrival of the railway line in May 1883. Previous to the railway line Kalk Bay was already a favourite spot for wealthy Cape Town business men from Wynberg and Rondebosch but the railway brought teeming crowds and the development of the fishing industry. In February 1862 Mrs Ross, an English visitor to the Cape, described Kalk Bay as: "... a little fishing hamlet, consisting of a few old-fashioned Dutch houses, and a dozen or so of fishermen's huts straggling for a mile between the rocky beach, and the precipitous mountains that rise up almost immediately behind it. It is accounted a very healthy place, and is the favourite resort of well-to-do people ..." Cecil John Rhodes was of course the most famous person who had a holiday cottage here and it can be visited today as a museum. Such was the growth that in 1895 Kalk Bay became a municipality and encouraged non-fishing families to settle in the area. The increased population brought with it the resources to build the Silvermine Reservoir in the mountains above Kalk Bay as well as water borne sewage. In 1890 the railway line was extended to Simonstown. This controversial decision had a major impact on the Kalk Bay community particularly the fishing community as the railway line cut through the middle of Fishery Beach. This resulted in the winter storms smashing the fishing fleet against the stone viaduct and in May 1898 half the fishing fleet was lost as a result of a particularly bad storm. Steel gantries were constructed as a temporary measure and a new breakwater and slipway was built between 1913 to 1919. Once the harbour was built the entire character changed. Steam-trawlers and other vessels safely docked in the harbour. Fish was railed from Kalk Bay up to the rich markets of the Transvaal and Kimberley. In 1902 a Marine Aquarium and Research Station (the first in South Africa) was established in St James and it was here that Prof Gilchrist did valuable research that helped establish the Sea Fisheries Department. The Marine Aquarium was demolished in 1954. Kalk Bay has one of the last remaining working harbours in South Africa with a fishing community proud of their heritage. It is a community has remained intact throughout South Africa's turbulent history, the only place in the country where all residents successfully opposed the Group Areas Act of the 1960s. Many famous South African families lived in the area or had holiday homes here including Count Labia. With its narrow cobbled streets, boats returning to the harbour at noon with the day's catch, interesting shops and 20 restaurants, the village has something to offer everyone.
