He felt so off-center. He was supposed to be a young professional, not a blistering fool in the company of his own non-blood-related relative, who happened to be waking all the cells in his blood. Excerpt (from Story #5, Spinning Around): Deryk was in New York to show his support for Aimee--she'd made it through the auditions for Fashion Icon, where would-be designers would compete for the chance to showcase their collection at NY Fashion Week, with the first place winner walking away with $100,000 to use as seed money to start their own fashion line. She was the third Maharani of Jaipur from 1939 to 1970 through her marriage to HH Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. The royal titles and the accompanying privy purses were technically abolished through a constitutional amendment in 1971. Following India's independence and the subsequent abolition of the princely states, she became an extremely successful politician. Gayatri Devi was also celebrated for her classical beauty and became something of a fashion icon in her adulthood. She died on July 29, 2009 in Jaipur, at the age of 90, due to paralytic ileus. Early life Her father, Prince Jitendra Narayan of Cooch Behar, was the younger brother of the Yuvraja (Crown Prince). Her mother was Princess Indira Raje of Baroda, the only daughter of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, an extremely beautiful princess and a legendary socialite. Early in her life, her uncle's death led to her father ascending the throne (gaddi). Gayatri Devi studied at Shantiniketan, and later in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she travelled with her mother and siblings, then studied secretarial skills in London School of Secretaries; Brilliantmont and Monkey Club London. She married HH Saramad-i-Rajahai Hindustan Raj Rajendra Sri Maharajadhiraj Sir Sawai Man Singh II Bahadur on 9th May 1940 Maharani Gayatri Devi (as she was styled after marriage) was a particularly avid equestrienne. Gayatri Devi had one child, Prince Jagat Singh of Jaipur, ex-Raja of Isarda, born on 15th October 1949, who was granted his grandfather's fief as a subsidiary title, and Gayatri Devi was called the Rajmata or Queen Mother. Jagat Singh was thus half-brother to Bhawani Singh of Jaipur. Gayatri Devi was once included in Vogue magazine's Ten Most Beautiful Women list. Gayatri Devi started schools for girls' education in Jaipur, most prominent of which is the Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ Public School. She also promoted the dying art of blue pottery. Political career After Partition and Independence Day in India in 1947, and later the abolition of royal privileges and privy purses in 1971, Gayatri Devi ran for Parliament in 1962 and won the constituency in the Lok Sabha in the world's largest landslide, winning 192,909 votes out of 246,516 cast, confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records. She continued to hold this seat on 1967 and 1971, Swatantra Party of C. Rajagopalachari, the second Governor-General of Independent India, running against the Congress Party. When the privy purses were abolished in 1971, terminating all royal privileges and titles, Gayatri Devi was accused of violating tax laws, and served 5 months in Tihar Jail. She retired from politics and published her autobiography, A Princess Remembers, written with Santha Rama Rau, in 1976. She was also the focus of the film Memoirs of a Hindu Princess, directed by Francois Levie. There were rumors that she might re-enter politics as late as 1999, when the Cooch Behar Trinamool Congress nominated her as their candidate for the Lok Sabha elections, but she did not respond to the offer. Her father Jitendra Narayan Bhup Bahadur was the second son of Maharaja Nripendra Narayan Bhup Bahadur and Maharani Sunity Devi of Cooch Behar. After the untimely death of his elder brother Maharaja Raj Rajendra Narayan Bhup Bahadur, a bachelor, he ascended the throne of Cooch Behar in November 1913, few month's after his marriage with Princess Indira raje Gaekwad of Baroda. Maharani Sunity Devi was the daughter of illustrious Brahmo social reformer Keshab Chandra Sen. Family relationships Gayatri Devi was related to several other erstwhile royal families in India, and not only the Rajput royals. Her maternal grandparents were Maharaja Sayajirao and Maharani Chimnabai of Baroda. Through marriage, she was related to Maharaja Hanuwant Singh of Jodhpur, the Maharaja of Dewas, the Maharaja of Tripura, and the Maharaja of Pithapuram in South India. She had one son, Maharaj Jagat Singh of Jaipur (erstwhile Raja of Isarda), and two grandchildren, Lalitaya Kumari and Devraj Singh. She is also indirectly related to the former royal families of Lunawada and Baria. Death She developed gastric problems in London and was admitted to a hospital there. She was being treated for gastric disorder at the King Edward’s Hospital in London and had expressed her desire to return to Jaipur as she felt lonely in London. Gayatri Devi was flown in an air ambulance to Jaipur. She was admitted at Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital (SDMH) on July 17. Dr. S C Kala, who was attending on her, said she was suffering from paralytic ileus. This is a condition when one’s intestines don’t move. She was kept in the ICU. There was a polypoid growth in her colon. Her death came a day after the passing away of actress Leela Naidu, both of whom were named by Vogue as amongst the 10 most beautif rock'n roll here i wear wear one of the outfits we will show in "adventures on Orient express" this is the amazing "Rock'n roll " by Cynthia Smit. I'm a real rock queen wearing "Rock'n roll in black" a very dynamic tank with the classic Rolling stones logo matched with a super sexy mini jeans skirt. What a hot combination! And for your personal information, let me say something about the logo Cynthia used for the tank: the artwork, designed by John Pasche in 1970, has always represented the icon of the Rolling Stones inspired by the lips and tongue of Mick Jagger. The original artwork was bought by London's Victoria and Albert Museum for $ 92,500. Half the cost was supported by The Art Fund, which considers him one of the most dynamic visual ever. And is strange to think that John Pasche, the artist who has designed, were paid $ 50 for the commission, which they were added 200 more for the quality and the satisfaction of the work. Viking Barbie and Ken Viking Barbie and Ken In 2002, my daughter Lisa's 5th grade class studied Vikings. When she told me she wanted to make clothes for her final project, I suggested small clothes, thus we produced this Viking Barbie and Ken. Here is what Lisa wrote about her project: "I chose to make Viking clothes because I thought it would be fun and interesting and because I hope to grow up to be a fashion designer. Between searching for goatskin and capping Ken, I got together dolls, cloth, foil, gold fingernail polish, buttons and old jewelry, socks and slippers. I went online to check on colors and fabrics. I was glad to find that the Danes had red dye, because the linen I had was red. I could have used an old cotton sheet for the pinafore, but then it wouldn't have been realistic, because the Vikings didn't have cotton. I did a lot of sewing. I guess I must have threaded 43 needles. The hardest thing to do was making the hat, belt and shoes because the scissors and needle didn't go through the skin that easily. My parents helped. When I learned about Ken needing to hold up his pants with a drawstring, I looked for wool yarn. My nana had sent me a drop spindle kit, which came in handy, although it was very hard to use. I guess the Vikings had a lot more practice than I did. It may be hard to believe, but my Barbie doll started looking really ugly. Fortunately, I had lots of linen and could try making her dress again. When I did a little more research, I found out that ironing linen was ok (The woven fabric was ironed with a heated rock), so the new dress looked a lot better. This project was very fun and interesting but I don't thing my fashion career is much farther along." Lisa was teased by the kids in class because her dolls were ugly, but she insisted that at least they were accurate. I think Lisa will be studying history, and not fashion, when she goes to college next year. (5) P1400454MC1 - Shoes under surveillance, Bloor Street Suspicious shoes under 24-hour surveillance from the fashion police. A store display window from the posh bit of Bloor Street. As usual when I am out and about at night for Nuit Blanche, I notice these installations and (even if commercial) have to compare them to non-window dressing, non-commercial art. The statement in this one was quite funny, for example... particularily when I mistook the horde of stainless steel cameras for a new style of handbag at first glance. Beyond that (and this is mainly for the 1984 and Panopticon pools) I find it telling that the all-seeing surveillance eye has made its way into window dressing. Even if these are not operable cameras, the fact they've been used in making a fashion statement (the setup itself likely a banksy reference of some sort) is ironic. Morimoto-kun Full Name: Morimoto Shiro History: Morimoto Shiro is an odd quiet boy who moved from Tokyo in the beginning of his first year of high school. He is often seen in the school yard sitting in shadow reading weird books with unknown symbols or escaping the company of others to the school roof for lunch. Nobu, who always wants to be the defender of the weak and lonely, has been seen hanging out with him, but Morimoto isn?t taking being his charity case as a compliment and prefers no other company but himself. The only time he shares activities with others outside class is the kendo practice. There too he is silent and concentrated on his internal affairs, but no one can deny his talent in kendo. The teacher always gives him personal instruction for practice after the training, that makes Tatsuya hate little odd ball even more. As a student Morimoto is outstanding, surpassed only by Nanami-chan of the same class. He keeps so much to himself no one really knows is he interested in girls at all – it seems he isn?t interested in people in general with the exception of brilliant teachers that pull him out of his shell and make him lean forward with interest and ask tight questions about the topic at hand. Love affair cake This is the perfect love. It breaks two marriages and makes a perfect love affair. And everyone adores the new couple. The relationship walnut spongecake&chocolate cream and chocolate spongecake&cocos cream works alright but walnut spongecake&cocos cream are soulmates!! Such intense love! Recipe for the wallnut cake: 8 eggs 15 dkg sugar 24 dkg grounded wallnut (works also with almonds or hazel nuts..) Beat the yolks fluffy with 2/3 of the sugar. Beat the egg whites fluffy with the 1/3 sugar. Mix very gently the fluffy yolk, fluffy egg whites and grounded nuts together. For cupcakes You need the muffin molds and paper cups, put the paper cups into the muffin molds and fill the paper cups to about 4/5. Heat the oven to 150°C (use the normal non ventilator oven mode). Bake for 25 minutes. Glazing I use "Schwartau Kuchen Glasur Zitrone" - so lemon tatste. For cake (above) A round cake mold of about 21 cm, cover it with melted margarine and sprinkle it with flour. Heat the oven (non ventilator mode) to 150°C and bake for 1h. By the end cover the top with alu foil. Cream I have to find the recipe. But usually I use chocolate heavy cream based cream or gello coconut cream as used in the "Love affair" cake above. Since i prefer those two creams above all the others. PS me if you wish the recipe or if you have a better cream suggestion and send recipe ; )) Love is Fragrant "Love is the rose that lends a pure fragrance to life."—Amma, "Lead Us to Purity", p. 138 "If you can't smell the fragrance don't come into the garden of Love..." --Rumi (thanks Saira B. for sharing the Rumi line!) Women & Hats: Vintage People on Photo Postcards (The Bodleian Library - Photo Postcards from the Tom Phillips Archive) To celebrate the acquisition of the archive of distinguished artist Tom Phillips, the Bodleian Library asked the artist to assemble and design a series of books drawing on his themed collection of over 50,000 photographic postcards. These encompass the first half of the twentieth century, a period in which, thanks to the ever cheaper medium of photography, ordinary people could afford to own portraits of themselves. Each of the books in the series contains two hundred images chosen from a visually rich vein of social history. Their covers also feature thematically linked paintings, specially created for each title, from Phillips’s signature work, A Humument. Women & Hats explores the remarkable range found in the world of millinery, from outrageous Edwardian creations to the inventive austerities of World War II. What kind of name is "Pagan Kennedy" and 2. Grace picked this up because she thought it was about shoes. Since it has a chapter called "Sex and Relationships," not so much. I'll hang on to this one.) Close your eyes and see the beauty. 1/104 *raw image no edit* “This life is what you make it. Not matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends - they'll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything - they're your true best friends. Don't let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they'll come and go too. And baby, I hate to say it, most of them - actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can't give up becuase if you give up, you'll never find your soul mate. You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about.” - marilyn monroe Bad Fashion Day Cochin, India. 12 August 2006. A real Bad Fashion Day. While it rained in bucketfuls outside, the fashion show inside the Taj Residency was a total school program kitsch. The MC was worse then a school teacher as she tried to coax people to clap and show enthusiasm in the event. The models danced and pranced in boring routines. Organised by a rather staid media group known for its solid news reporting, this was one day I should have stayed home after the Alleppey Boat Race but hey things good and bad make a normal day.
