FIVE DOLLAR GOLD EAGLE COIN - FIVE DOLLAR GOLD
FIVE DOLLAR GOLD EAGLE COIN - SCREEN VIDEO RECORDER GOLD
Five Dollar Gold Eagle Coin
- (Gold Eagles) Modern gold bullion coins. American gold Eagles are products of the U.S. Mint, and since their debut in 1986 have become this country’s most popular gold bullion coin. Struck in a traditional coinage alloy of 91.
- The basic monetary unit of the US, Canada, Australia, and certain countries in the Pacific, Caribbean, Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America
- a United States coin worth one dollar; "the dollar coin has never been popular in the United States"
- the basic monetary unit in many countries; equal to 100 cents
- a piece of paper money worth one dollar
- Invent or devise (a new word or phrase)
- Make (metal) into coins
- mint: form by stamping, punching, or printing; "strike coins"; "strike a medal"
- Make (coins) by stamping metal
- make up; "coin phrases or words"
- a flat metal piece (usually a disc) used as money
1873-CC $5.00 PCGS AU50
Mintage: 7,416
The 1873-CC is the second rarest half eagle from this mint, trailing only the 1870-CC. The 1873-CC, of course, lacks the first-year-of-issue cachet that the 1870-CC and its fame has lagged a bit as a result. But in recent years, Carson City gold specialists have learned just how rare this date is, especially in grades above EF40. I believe that fewer than 75 exist in all grades and the 1873-CC is extremely rare in properly graded AU with fewer than ten known. I sold the finest known 1873-CC last year (a wonderful PCGS MS62) but it has been a considerable amount of time since I've offered an AU.
This example shows rich natural green-gold on the obverse and reverse. There are a few minor ticks on the obverse which are not out of keeping with the grade; the reverse is clean and choice. The strike is sharper than usual for the issue with only minor weakness noted at the centers; the borders are sharp. PCGS has graded just two in this grade with five finer. The finer pieces include three in AU55 and two in Uncirculated. All of the finer pieces are off the market in tightly-held collections.
1851-D $5.00 NGC AU58
Mintage: 62,710
Strong mintmark variety. This is a coin that epitomizes the concept of originality and it is a good piece to illustrate why the AU58 grade offers the savvy collector such good value. The typical 1851-D half eagle is weakly struck and densely abraded but this is a notable exception to these rules. While common enough in lower grades, the 1851-D half eagle becomes quite rare in properly graded AU58 and fully Uncirculated pieces are exceedingly rare with no more than four or five accounted for.

Rope or Line?
Aboard ship, the term rope refers to both fiber and wire. Fiber rope includes those made of such natural materials as manilla and hemp and those made of synthetic materials such as nylon. Here's the tricky part. Fiber rope is called rope only as long as it is still in it's original coil. Once a piece has been cut to be used for some purpose (such as for mooring), it is then called a line. If you want to be considered a landlubber, call a line a rope on a boat!

Lampas: Italian Metallic Fabrics from the 13th - 17th Century
Tietzel, Brigitte (1984). Italienishce Seidengewebe [Italian silk fabrics of the 13th, 14th and 15th Centuries]. Schroeder Collector Books: Oldenburg (Germany).
This is an inventory catalog showing the diversity of Italian silk fabrics in the collection of the German Textile Museum at Krefeld . This is the 1st edition clothbound book containing 480 pages and 165 b / w photos and drawings. Content: The 13th Century: Samites (A heavy silk fabric, often interwoven with gold or silver, worn in the Middle Ages) and Damasks of the 13th and 14 Centuries; the technical requirements of the Italian silk weaving of the 13th - 14 centuries; stylistic analysis of Lampas fabric of the 14th and early 15 centuries; and the singular behavior of colors.
____________________________________________
LAMPAS is a type of luxury fabric with a background weft (a "ground weave") typically in taffeta with supplementary wefts (the "pattern wefts") laid on top and forming a design, sometimes also with a "brocading weft". LAMPAS is typically woven in silk, and often has gold and silver thread enrichment.
LAMPAS weaves were developed around 1000 CE. Beginning late in the 17th century western lampas production began centered in Lyon, France where an industry of providing for French and other European courts became centered. LAMPAS became a favorured fabric for clothing for 17th and 18th centuries particularly for mantuas used in the most formal of court occassions.
____________________________________________
SAMITE is a luxurious and heavy silk fabric worn in the Middle Ages, of a twill-type weave, often including gold or silver thread. The word was derived from Old French samit, from medieval Latin samitum, examitum deriving from the Byzantine Greek hexamiton, indicating the use of six varying yarns in the warp. SAMITE is still used in ecclesiastical robes, vestments, ornamental fabrics, and interior decoration.
Structurally, SAMITE is a weft-faced compound twill, plain or figured (patterned), in which the main warp threads are hidden on both sides of the fabric by the ground and patterning wefts, with only the binding wefts visible. By the later medieval period, the term SAMITE was applied to any rich, heavy silk material which had a satin-like gloss. Indeed "satin" began as a term for lustrous SAMITE.

Primavera
Primavera is the Italian word for spring, and I can think of no other word to describe this necklace. It reminds me of a Spring garden in full bloom.
The pendant is a vintage glass drop filled with tiny opal chips suspended in oil. The opal explodes with fire and it reminds me of the beautiful rainbows that appear after a spring thunderstorm. The necklace is made from Watermelon Tourmaline chips, rainbow Moonstone, Gold Fresh Water Pearls, and Swarovski Crystals. The necklace is finished with a gold plated box clasp and measures 20.5 inches.

The man is Woila, a Guide to the ancient remote (and now derelict) desert city of Essouk. It is a kilometre or so away from the small scattering of mud-buildings that make up today's village of Essouk. The City of Essouk has been derelict for several hundred years but is of great historical and archaeological importance. Until mediaeval times the Sahara was a thriving commercial region, and Essouk a trading and cultural centre. The city had a population of around 3,000 and served large trans-Saharan caravans (some with thousands of camels) carrying items such as gold, ivory, slaves and salt - and travellers - across the Sahara desert.

"'Don't make things more complicated than they should be' would be my philosophy if I had one." The year is 1975 and that's single-minded Richard Riley Moncrief talking, a Boston seventh grader too focused on his one true love--baseball, especially the Red Sox--to even contemplate that anything else in the universe might have significance. That endearing, maniacal obsession equips Richard with all the philosophy and metaphor he needs to navigate the insular world of St. Colmcille's parochial school, his working-class neighborhood, and all the baseball-related holy sites (the Northeastern U. batting cages, Fenway Park) in between. That is, until busing begins in Boston, racial tensions rise, and a polished, young Dominican emigre named Napoleon Charlie Ellis (who happens to be a bang-up cricket player) enrolls at St. Colmcille's. The other major event in Richard's life is the arrival of touted rookies Fred Lynn and Jim Rice--the Gold Dust Twins--to the Sox roster. Not long after the two boys find themselves magnetically drawn together, Richard cooks up a new obsession: he will reform this cricket player, and the two of them will fulfill their destiny as the next Gold Dust Twins. Chris Lynch's convincing sensitivity to a difficult age and topic--along with his clear love of the game--combine to make Gold Dust simply superb, a touching, subtle, and insightful book that comes across as clean as the crack of a bat.
