Victorian Speed Camera Locations
An old Victorian lightship, ruined on the bank of the Thames. I first saw this a couple of years ago and have been meaning to visit again with my camera. I'm hoping to be producing some photos for a band soon, so this trip was also a bit of a location scouting mission. Although the band aren't best known for their sea shanties or pirate jigs, we're planning on a naval / nautical theme for their photos. Arrrr.
Tech note: I used an ND filter on this shot, which reduced the light by about 4 stops. It's not one of the super-dark filters, but still allows for a slower shutter speed (around half a second for this shot) making the water looks a bit smoother than it would have done otherwise.
Infrared photo of the West-side of Buffalo, NY
This photo is a bit overexposed (as if you had to guess) and my 10 year-old camera was apparently having tiny light-leaks that only were revealed with HIE film.
The west-side of Buffalo is rife with large opulent homes and churches (often Victorian) from the turn of the (19th to 20th) century. It was a boom-town in those days because of its location on Lake Erie (making shipping across the great lakes easy and inexpensive) and the explosion in the US’s industrial development.
I moved there immediately after university (1977) because I had friends there and the alternative was to move back to the tiny town I grew up in. I moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1980. The weather was a tad better….
