MMS on 2G!
Tired of not having MMS on your iPhone, and u don't want to bother with buying Swirly? Well, here's news for you!
FIRST OF ALL ADD THIS REPO ON YOUR CYDIA:

CAREFULLY READ THIS:
REQUIREMENTS:
-IPHONE 2G ON FIRMWARE 3.0
-ASBATTERY UNINSTALLED IF YOU HAVE IT INSTALLED
DO NOT INSTALL ON A 3G OR ON A 2G NOT ON 3.0, PHONE IT WILL SEND IT INTO A DEFINATE STATE OF CRASH AND YOU WILL NEED TO RESTORE. ALSO ITS BEST TO SEND A MMS TO YOURSELF BEFORE YOU SEND OUT ONE.IF YOUY DONT HAVE APN SETTING IN Settings> General> Network> Cellular Data Network THEN TRY DOWNLOADING APN EDITING FORM CYDIA
Of course don't forget to reboot afte install ;)
A little tutorial:
1. Install the Cydia package "ActivateMMS2G" and reboot
2. Go to help.BenM.at on your iPhone
3. Go to the second Mobileconfigs link, the one that allows you to create a custom Mobileconfig
4. Enter your MMS APN for both of the APN fields (Mobile Internet and Visual Voicemail) and enable tether. My network requires no username or password, if yours does, you may need to enter those as well.
5. Press generate, install it, press OK, then reboot RIGHT AWAY. Do not check the settings!!!
6. Go to settings > General and scroll down to profile. If it says 2 (or more) profiles, delete/uninstall the one(s) that are not called "help.benm.at" (i.e. delete all but the one you just installed). If it only says help.benm.at, skip to step 8.
7. After deleting the other profiles, go back to help.BenM.at and repeat steps 3-5. The first time you try to install it, it may fail or hang while installing (it did for me anyway) if this happens, press the home button, reopen Safari, then try again, it should work.
8. Once your iPhone has rebooted, go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network. Your MMS APN should be present in every APN field.
9. Fill in your MMSC and MMS Proxy. Once again, my network has no username or password, so I am not sure if you should add this here or during step 4... Experiment!!
10. Reboot your iPhone.
11. Open Messages and try to send an MMS. If it fails, check your settings are correct.
12. If it is successful, go back to Cellular Data Network and change your Cellular Data APN to the one appropriate for your network.
13. Test your data connection.
14. Test your MMS.

Summary:
We can jailbreak the 3GS right now. But making our jailbreak public at this point in time would benefit relatively few people. It would in fact be detrimental to many more people than it would help. So we feel it’s best to keep our version of the jailbreak out of Apple’s sights for the time being.
Details:
If you already have a 3GS phone and have already done a full USB dump or captured your img3’s signed with your ECID, then you’re in great shape. You will always be able to jailbreak. But many people who plan on getting a 3GS do not yet have one. For instance, many people are waiting for their existing contracts to mature to the point where they get a price break on the 3GS. Many people are trying to sell their 3G before they can buy the 3GS. There are parts of the globe where you can’t even buy a 3GS yet! The reasons are varied, but they are many.
The nature of the 3GS hardware allows Apple to stop IPSWs from being usable unless you’ve already gotten the signed chunks they send to you based on your ECID (a unique chip ID). You cannot get these signed chunks without knowing your ECID, and you don’t know your ECID until you’ve bought your 3GS.
The jailbreak requires at least one signed iBoot-family img3 for your device. And that iBoot needs to have an exploitable bug. It’s an all-or-nothing deal…you either have your signed exploitable iBoot ready to use, for now and forever — always jailbreakable — or you have nothing.
Here’s the critical point, the reason why we’re delaying our version of the jailbreak: Once the jailbreak is out, Apple will fix the iBoot-family bug we use to accomplish it. They will simply stop signing the old iBoots and only sign the fixed ones. If you bought your phone after Apple has done this, there’s nothing you can do…the jailbreak isn’t going to work for you.
It is possible that Apple will find the bug we use without our handing it to them on a silver platter (via a public jailbreak). In that case, we will have delayed our jailbreak for “nothing”. But we’d rather be safe than sorry!
Apple is surely coming out with a 3.0.1 firmware release shortly. They need to fix ultrasn0w. They need to fix some UI issues. 3.0 is buggy and 3.0.1 is coming. We’re going to wait and see what 3.0.1 brings before figuring out the release date for our version of the jailbreak.
In the meantime, we have some remaining 3.0 jailbreak issues to investigate, including push notification. Thanks for being patient with us while we took a 3GS “timeout”!

Apps that work (or not) on 3.0!
Here's one quick recap of the apps fro Cydia that are proven that work or not at this time.. So, if u need any of those apps think of upgrade to 3.0..
First of, let's start with BUGS:
-Tab in the “Search” in Cydia letters do not appear on the scrolling speed. Even thou we cannot see the letters you can continue to use this function “in the dark”
-The queue of Cydia does not work well if you try to install more applications simultaneously at the end is probably not going to install either one.
-Sometimes respring do not work in Cydia. Without respring you can not see the newly installed application icon on Springboard. To overcome this problem run respring by SBSettings or after the application “Respring” who can be found in Cydia.
-For the same reason of “queue” not working, either Upgrade multiples are always a success
-You can not connect via USB in SSH
-The weather icon does not apply the Winterboard Theme
-Restoring a backup will bring strange errors: The display of the coverflow is unpacking – The images of the library you see the squares with blacks – The application iTunes does not load the list of songs / singers
SEMI-FUNCTIONAL APPS:
-Winterboard: This only works in some cases. The complete themes (they come with various changes to the system) can’t be fully supported (at the moment)

Well, well, if u prefer SSH this to your phone, you do it right!
A patched InstallD file is the successor to miPatch of 2.0!
This is the patch file. Next SSH it over to /usr/libexec and set permissions and reboot. You might want to set it to 7777, reboot and make sure it works and then change to 0777.
Once you've done that, enjoy, IPAs will sync from iTunes. Remember though, the dev team said USB SSH is not functioning with iTunes 8.2's annoying MobileDevice driver. Using USB-SSH or failing to change permissions can make you have to restore.
Forgot to mention: As usual, you need a free app to run a cracked one

Alternatively, use Cydia repo : http://cydia.hackulo.us and search for "AppSync for OS 3.0". It's like miPatch, but for the new firmware. It will let you sync all your apps back from iTunes..

Read the whole post in full before attempting anything!
redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). Currently it is available for Windows and Mac OS X (there are some issues using redsn0w with OS X PPC, please use an Intel Mac until we have this problem resolved).
REDSN0W PROVIDES SIMILAR FUNCTIONALITY TO QUICKPWN.
If you want to build custom firmware files with more flexibility it is suggested that you use ‘PwnageTool’ on Mac OS X.
1.GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.
2.Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you will be able to get it via Cydia or Icy).
3.Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
4.Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
5.At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest version of redsn0w.
6.This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release
7.redsn0w will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
8.redsn0w WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch, iPod touch 2G and the iPhone 3G (not the iPhone 3GS).

Death of Installer
Remember Installer in the glory days? Well it's officially dead now as Rip-dev will be ending support for installer 4.0 and its own repos. Rip-dev hosted files will be removed july 1st, so if there's anything on their repo's you want now is the time to download it.

The dev-team is also hard at working testing the new Jailbreak tools for 3.0. they had it ready and it should also be out in a few days (i believe there is a hack-job quickpwn thatll work with final 3.0, but i reccomend waiting for the dev-team's version)

Apple started pushing out their official iTunes 8.2, which supports mobile devices at firmware 3.0. Here’s why you jailbreakers and yellowsn0w-users shouldn’t really accept that “Update now?” question:
-Most people aren’t at 3.0. In fact 3.0 is still in beta and has lots of bugs (especially related to push updates).
-It breaks your ability to use QuickPwn, PwnageTool, and iPhone Tunneling Suite (ssh over usb). We don’t think this is a deliberate breakage of these tools. It’s just that Apple has updated a low-level USB protocol that normally only Apple cares about (but jailbreakers care about).
-So far, the only appreciable change to iTunes 8.2 is the Genius function working on videos.
-It may actually break Palm Pre’s connection to the device
This update is one of those that incidentally breaks QuickPwn and PwnageTool. It doesn’t seem like an anti-jailbreak. But nonetheless, it will break your ability to re-run QuickPwn or PwnageTool’s dfu-entry.
Because this update isn’t a deliberate anti-jailbreak measure, it’s easily fixed in tools. But we really don’t want to update our tools until 3.0 is out, so please don’t update to 8.2 if you think you’ll need to rejailbreak your device. :)
