Kansas beats Oklahoma State in double overtime By Rustin Dodd

The classic ended in a flash.

Naadir Tharpe moved to his left, and then faked back the other way, a little wiggle that created just enough space. For nearly 50 minutes, the Kansas Jayhawks and Oklahoma State Cowboys had played a Big 12 classic, a back-and-forth battle that stretched deep into the second overtime.

And with Kansas trailing by one, Tharpe, who hadn’t even been in the game until senior Elijah Johnson fouled out, took the game into his own hands. The little floater dropped through the net, the Jayhawks came up with a frantic stop on the other end, and Bill Self pumped his fist as the clock struck 0:00.

Kansas 68, Oklahoma State 67.

Somehow, someway, the Jayhawks had escaped Gallagher-Iba Arena with a statement victory. The ninth-ranked Jayhawks, 22-4 and 10-3 in the Big 12, climbed even with Kansas State atop the conference, and gained a measure of revenge after dropping a rare home game to No. 14 Oklahoma State (19-6, 9-4) earlier this month.

In a season where they’ve said the Big 12 was down, the conference delivered a rugged epic between two top-25 teams.

Enough drama for you?

The Jayhawks had a golden chance to win in the first overtime, but senior Travis Releford couldn’t convert on a drive to the basket.
