Thames Inn And Marina

Thames Trader
The Thames Trader was designed and built by the UK arm of the Ford Motor Company in 1957. This was actually the first English built Ford truck, but you can still make out the American roots of the design.
Every late summer, at Harvest time the fields around here seem to turn back several decades, and the farmers bring out several trucks to collect the wheat back to the farm. There are 4 trucks used, the Trader, a Bedford and 2 curious BMC relics - an Austin 45 and Morris FF. All vehicles have special dispensation from the DVLA to be used on the roads around the farm - and only get used for a couple of weeks in the year - hence the allowance to be used without road tax.
Ever since I can remember, these trucks have been used on the farm, and I suspect that their mechanical hardiness will allow them to be used for decades to come - it would be a shame to see them replaced by brand new tipper trucks, although I suspect the drivers will appriciate the creature comforts a bit more...
I actually did a neat sketch of this, and was all ready to scan it in but I spilt Vimto all over it - the ink reacted with the sweet drink and the truck melted away. I'll do another one, but better and Vimto proof.
WHEN THE THAMES OVERFLOWS
Over the holidays the Thames River overflowed it's banks and backed up into the surrounding fields. It then froze overnight while in it's highest position and subsequently as the level went down, the top layer of ice clung to the trees. Not sure if this is the highest it has ever been, but definitely up there. As you can see the river is back down at least 10 ft lower.
