Dublin Docklands Area Master Plan

The Master Plan sets out an overall framework for a 10-year period, with particular emphasis on the next 5 years to 2013, after which the Master Plan will again be reviewed in accordance with the provisions of the 1997 Act. It provides a framework to guide the development and regeneration of the Docklands Area embracing social regeneration, economic development, land use, transportation, infrastructure, urban design, art, tourism and culture.

It establishes the strategic framework and policies for the preparation of detailed Planning Schemes by the Authority in accordance with Section 25 of the Dublin Docklands Development Authority Act, 1997. It is these ‘Section 25 Planning Schemes’ that are the plans which guide and manage the actual implementation of developments and regeneration.

Since the 2003 Master Plan, the physical, economic and social transformation of the Docklands has continued extending the city of Dublin eastwards and attracting major new businesses and thousands of new residents and visitors to the area.

The development of the Draft Master Plan 2008 began last November with a detailed review of the 2003 Master Plan. Throughout the process there was ongoing consultation with the board, the council, the community and stakeholders in the area. A major milestone in the process was the presentation and consultation with over 200 community representatives at the Docklands Social regeneration Conference in January 2008.

The Draft Master Plan is now on view at a number of locations in the Docklands.
