Initial focus
Once I've confirmed that the telescope is correctly collimated, I aim for a star near the north-south meridian on the celestial equator. Initial aim is far off, so I need to use my Telrad sight and finder scope to fine tune the telescope pointing.
The laptop gives me planetarium software for precision pointing of the mount, software for drift alignment, and controls autoguidance to correct tracking errors.
On the table you can see the control box for the focuser, which lets me focus either at the eyepiece or in front of the laptop. You can also see a wireless XBox 360 controller, which I use to control slewing of the telescope. The A / B / X / Y buttons control speed, and the d-pad controls Declination / Right Ascension movement.
You can also see the red-tinted headlamp I routinely use when it's dark.
Day 4: Housesitting
Sorry, this is a day late, I was house sitting, and I brought my laptop so I could go through photos and such, but they don't have wireless, so I couldn't get online.
These are the three dogs I'm watching, Lark, Progo, and Pooka. They so freaking crazy. Sweet, but absolutely insane.
Although it's actually a pretty sweet deal, I feed the dogs, let them out, make sure the cats come in at night, get the mail and whenever I need to get stuff from home (or get online) It's a short bike ride. And I get to play their xbox 360 and ps3 complete with rockband.
