Adam Wurtzel

Adam Wurtzel

Adam Wurtzel ’07
During his first visit to Eastern Connecticut State University as a high school senior exploring various college opportunities, Adam Wurtzel shared his idea for a game show with an Eastern student who was working in the school’s TV studio. “Come to Eastern,” the student encouraged Adam. “Your professors will make it happen.”
He was right. During his first semester on campus, Adam created a college-based game show he called “Eastern Expedition.” Adam served as host and executive producer throughout all four years of his undergraduate career, and helped the show evolve into one that challenged contestants with trivia, tough questions, elements of strategy and decision-making tasks.
In 2006, “Expedition” received the third-place award in the Student Studio Production category at the Broadcast Education Associations (BEA) Awards in Las Vegas. Nearly a decade after Adam created the show, “Eastern Expedition” continues to be a success as the longest-running student production ever at Eastern.
After graduation in 2007, Adam headed to New York City to pursue a career in the television industry. He was immediately hired as the head audience coordinator during auditions for the reality show “Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann” (a spin-off of the popular show “Dancing with the Stars”), which premiered in January 2008 on the ABC television network.
In 2009, Adam also served as co-host of “GSN Live” on the Game Show Network. The interactive “show-within-a-show” aired during the commercial breaks of game shows such as “Family Feud” and “The Weakest Link.” It featured games that viewers could play to win prizes over the phone, highlights from classic game shows, interviews, behind the scenes views of GSN and celebrity appearances. Adam soon parlayed that experience into a staff position at CBS, where he currently serves as the audience coordinator for the “The Early Show” and hosts “Early Backstage,” a show airing five days a week exclusively for cbsnews.com on its website. The show, which airs about noon each day, features everything backstage from celebrity interviews to cooking and more.
“I’ve dreamed about a career in television since I was 3, and Eastern helped make that dream a reality,” said Adam. “I couldn’t have done it without Eastern.”
