Nestles Toll House Cookies
Toll House Inn of Whitman, Massachusetts, was established in 1930 by Kenneth and Ruth Graves Wakefield. The original toll house had been built in 1709 and had a rich history of providing a night's solace to weary travelers.

i decided to bake some classic American chocolate chip cookies for the neighbors as a thank you for taking care of Howard the cat while we were away.
Thank you Mom for sending me the chocolate chips!
Original Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies
2 1/4 cups (365g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup (225g) butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup (165g) granulated sugar
3/4 cup (145g) packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 375F/190C/gas mark 5.
Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand for 2 minutes; remove to wire rack to cool completely.
Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
