margin of profit: the ratio gross profits divided by net sales
Gross margin, Gross profit margin or Gross Profit Rate is the difference between the sales and the production costs excluding overhead, payroll, taxation, and interest payments.
The difference between the selling price of a product or service and the cost of that product or service often shown as a percentage. Eg. if a product sold for 100 and cost 60 to buy or manufacture, the gross margin would be 40%.

Inter Parfum report 4Q profit rise thanks to high-margin sales
The Burberry, Jimmy Choo, and Paul Smith perfume maker increased its fourth quarter profits and gross margin even with small dip in sales.
By prioritising profitable products Inter Parfum were able to lift their income in the last months of 2011 by 14 per cent, although their quarterly revenue slipped to $112.4m from $112.9m, which was below analysts’ expectations.
The Paris-based company expects continued growth in high end business for this year with its Mountblanc and Boucheron launches in mid 2010.
