flat: a deflated pneumatic tire

Is this what they call 'damaged beyond repair'?
Bad luck on one of Namibia's gravel roads: our rear tyre decided to give in completely. And that on one of the first days of our trip!
Thankfully, this was the only spot of real car trouble we had in 10.000+ km (two cars, each covered over 5K).
Calling this a flat tyre would be far too positive, but at least it solved the question "why do we see so much damaged tyres along the road?"...
Fortunately we had two spares with us, and were back on the road within half an hour. The process 'only' involved unloading our luggage to get to the spare, piecing the primitive oem jack together, digging a hole in the road to squeeze the jack underneat the axle, and finally putting the spare on.
The friendly garage/shop owner in Aus managed to get a new tyre delivered within 24 hours, so we could continue our trip with a healthy stock of four spares for our two cars.

We hit a piece of aluminum in Modesto and installed the spare which limited up to only drive about 50 mph. We weren't going anywhere so we pulled over and called a near by tire repair maintenance shop. We followed the the maintenance man to get the tire replaced. While we were there Josh played some worship music while Dez was showing us how to "crip walk" and I was busin' out with my "freak nasty".
