Opening ceremonies for the Alianait Festival, the arts festival, was on the Tuesday that I was there. Meaghan and I picked up friends to go to thebg tent that was erected on Queen Elizabeth Road. Parking was easy.

The opening act was Digging Roots, last year’s Juno winner for the best Aborignal group. I thought it was a bit odd to have the most well known band to open. They were good. They brought out a harmonica guy, Mike Stevens, who every seemed to know. He was quite incredible as well. The audience was getting into them.

Two people came up on stage and welcomed everyone in three languages, English, French and Inutuk, the inuit language. These are the three languages of Nunivat. They introduced the first band and welcomed everyone to the start of the two weeks of entertainment. They didn’t really tell anyone what else was going on or when though.

The second act brought the audience cleared out people. The band was a husband and wife band called Arviq Band. It consisted of the wife singing, her husband on guitar and backup vocals, a brother on the guitar and another relative on the synthesizer. The keyboard acted as drums and beat machine. All of her songs were sung in Inutuk . She told the audience both in English and Inutuk what each song meant. They had a country sound to them with zero stage presence. No one onstage showed any emotions until the last song. She said she wrote each song but the last one especially, I was almost singing the words to an elvis song, she just used different lyrics and every once in a while did a few different notes. They took a long time on stage and you could see the stage manager telling them to wrap it up.

The third act was amazing - a young guy on a guitar with a bass guitarist to accompany him. His name was Josh Qaumaraq. He wore a hat that said Josh as you can see from above. He had a deep bluesy voice. He blew my socks off! I captured a small recording of him singing. He needs to “be found.”

The fourth act that we saw was Leanne Goose and Jared Sowan. She was good and a well-known singer. She was very personable with the audience. People seemed to be drawn back to seats to watch her. A gaggle of girls at the bottom of the stage gathered taking pictures of her. They gathered on stage for one of the songs. It was interesting. When she introduced her band consisting of a violinist, two guitars, drummer, Mike Stevens and Jared Sowan, everyone else’s last name was Goose. They did all look similar as well. I guess they were all related.

We left while Jared Sowan was singing. It was getting late and Meaghan did have to work in the morning. It was so strange leaving the tent knowing that it was getting late and yet it was still bright outside. Very odd.

I hit every note in every song in career easy mode on guitar hero: aerosmith. :-) So I guess I'm done with easy mode.

That is, once I get perfects on all the bonus songs. :-)

Apparently my easy mode career score is 3,161,404, which makes me 369th on the X360. Of course, this is because people who are good at the game don't PLAY easy mode, but I'll take it anyway.
