Day 149 - 041508

Day 149 - 041508

A couple of weeks ago I started using my hips for sites, since I hadn't used them in awhile. I kept moving back each set change and eventually had a site on my upper butt area. I never had any luck with that area with any kind of set. I had a few questionable (high) readings but for the most part it seemed okay. Yesterday I changed my set and again used the upper butt area. I had some high readings in the morning and again late last night.

A little after 1:00am I wanted to go to bed but my BG was high so I corrected and stayed up. It went higher, then came down again (barely). By this time it was 4:00am, my BG was 182 and I did another correction and went to bed.

Woke up at 6:00am with a BG of 34. DRank juice, fell asleep. Woke up at 8:00 with a BG of 47. I then stayed high for the rest of the morning through mid-afternoon. I went high again after my afternoon snack and I know it wasn't because of what I ate or a carb miscalculation. I changed the set at work, corrected and then ended up at 37 when I got home from work. The set now seems to be working fine (abdomen site).

Moral of the story: stop trying to use my butt. It's not gonna work.

Diabetes365 Day 54 - 120307

Diabetes365 Day 54 - 120307

THis morning I had to change my set, my reservoir/tubing and my battery. I think that's a first, having to change everything at the same time. The pump sounded the low battery alarm as I pressed the button to do the manual prime, and I had to put in a new one before it would let me continue.

Since my meter also uses AAA batteries I buy the biggest package I can find in the drugstore. I change the battery in the pump far more often than the meter batteries. When I first started pumping the battery would last about 7 weeks. Now it's more like 4-5, because I use the advanced features all the time (dual/square wave bolus, temp basal rates) and I also rarely hear the alarm. Sometimes it will go off for an hour before I realize it. That drains the battery life, as does the backlight which I also use a lot.
