A sump pump is a pump used to remove water that has accumulated in a water collecting sump pit, commonly found in the basement of homes.

Sump pump "plumbing": Two pieces of flexible hose connected using a pipe clamp and copper wire. Leaks like a sieve. There is no check valve, and with the leak, all of the water left in the hose after the pump runs leaks quickly back into the pit.
