PHILIPPINES - SILVER MAKING IN BAGUIO
58 year old Melania Manantan weight on pure silver which will then be melted to be use in the making of a silver chain in her shop at barangay Greenwater in Baguio city north of Manila 29 June 2007. Started in 1973 as a silver craftsman together with her husband Jose, she said that they had supplied famous silver shops with their products here and in Manila including famous people here and abroad. "We make sure that our silver works are of best quality, we never sacrifice that," Manantan said. SHe however laments that they are greatly affected by the fancy jewelries that are sold now in the market. "The price is cheap but its not silver and will not last long," Manantan added.
