My Shadow at Silver Sands
Wrote this in West Virginia, when I was at the bee class. The hotel internet collection was slow as death, so I wasn't able to do much with Flickr when I was there:
I went down to Silver Sands State Park last week. Mom was gonna do some serious walking. She had her sticks. She was in her groove. I was gonna try out the new camera.
The wind was blowing something fierce. A lot of sand in the air meant I didn't want to take my camera out. So I strolled out towards Charles Island.
The island is a tombolo, connected to the mainland by a strip of jetty/sandbar. But most of the sandbar is covered at high tide. I was able to make it about half way. Wasn't sure if the tide was rising or falling. Didn't matter. I knew Mom wouldn't want to stay all that long. I turned back to face the Connecticut shore and I took out my camera. There were groups of people walking towards me.
I chatted with a half dozen folks. We talked the weather and the shoreline and the various places we'd all lived. And I got up my nerve and asked if I could take pictures. I took more people shots than I ever have, I didn't have a pencil to write down the names! I wrote down everything I remembered when I got home.
Then I got busy for a week. Now I am down in West Virginia for a bee taxonomy course and I'm putting these shots up FINALLY. But I don't have my notebook and I don't remember the names. And I could kick myself.
So I'm getting braver. But I still failed because
1. I did not have a pencil with me, and
2. because I waited too long to post these and write about them.
If I get a chance to take pictures of people down here in West Virginia, so help me, I won't take a single shot without being sure I have a way to write down some notes!
