The reconstruction of the Congress Street Bridge is to be done over the four Point Channel and serves as the main connection between the downtown area and the South Boston Waterfront. In an effort to reconstruct this structure with minimal impact on vehicular and pedestrian traffic, all work will be performed under phased conditions, including demolition, superstructure reconstruction, substructure renovation and reconstruction, removal of the old fender system and installing a new plastic pile fender system, construction of a new utility bay, removal of the existing concrete counterweight and restoration of multiple historical items.
